Amazing place. A loft owner could have an out-of-body experience at Scout. They have the most stellar taste and they're very friendly. Designers must love coming here. As of late, the prices seem to have become more reasonable on many of the items. I got a desk for $375, which isn't outrageous. read more

A really fun experience. The store is intimate, but like being inside a treasure chest with each piece telling its own story. Everything is tremendously curated and as you become familiar with the Scout design work that's been done outside of their retail operation, it's evident their eye goes well beyond just selecting great furniture. I had the distinct pleasure today of finding a gem of a business on Clark Street. I say pleasure because the man who is the shopkeeper, Larry, couldn't have made my day any better. The store is filled with beautiful and unique items that haven't been seen in years. When I walked into the store Larry was busy making a sale of a somewhat expensive, one of a kind item to a couple who were obviously ahead of me. He saw I was interested in a jar I was holding, excused himself from the couple and completed MY sale. He left the big ticket sale to cheerfully take care of my transaction. Wanted to go after visiting the "Smart House" at the Science and Industry Museum. WOW- I couldn't even afford a lamp in this store. The ideas were neat, but nothing I haven't seen on Pinterest. It is not what I thought this store would be at all. I was looking for old stuff to refurb myself not spend an arm for a simple lamp. I think this is a great store for interior designers. I've been going into Scout for several years and have bought countless items ranging from small to large. I think maybe some people don't really understand this place, but I think I do. I remember walking into the store one Saturday, and Larry the owner declared, " man, the store is firing on all cylinders today!" And he was right. Everything in the place was great and looked great together. Larry had struck that balance yet again. And then someone like me walks and ruins everything by buying a pair of chairs or a really cool lamp or something. Now poor Larry has to start over. And that takes a lot of effort. It keeps the man busy. This is what scout is all about, interesting pieces, the juxtapositions, the editing. The balance. Some days the store is firing on all cylinders, and some days it's not, and so you just come back next week. And the week after that. Keep up the good work, Larry! read more

I discovered Scout several years ago when I lived near the store. I quickly became a regular and found some amazing pieces there. Later I bought a home on the south side of the city and the owner Larry was instrumental in helping me furnish my house. Larry has an eye like no other shop keeper. The merchandise at the store never seems stale and the stock is always changing. It's definitely worth a trip to Andersonville to find some highly edited pieces at a reasonable price. read more

This, my friends, is the awnser to all questions that start with "If I won the lotto..." Not meaning it's overpriced, just meaning that the buyers for this store have rediculously good taste and I want to buy it ALL. I feel that this is the first "Stuff for guys with taste" store I have ever been in. Everything is amazing, from old drafting tables to ancient scientific school posters depicting magma flow, to steel tables and old medicine cabinets. This place is my guilty pleasure. I just read the other reviews and I have 1 suggestion. Replace the outside bench with a nice antique wallpaper printing roll and let them sit on that. read more

Buyer beware! They have great stuff at Scout, but their management is dishonest. I purchased a table from them while doing renovations on my house. I paid in full, They said they would be happy to keep the table until my construction was complete as they had a lot of room in the store. When it came time for me to pick up the table, I was told that I waited too long and that they had sold it to someone else!! I paid in full. Have the credit card and store receipt. They said sorry--no refunds. So essentially they stole $900 from me. All phone calls have gone unreturned. Do not shop at SCOUT!! read more

I am a design junkie and I love this place. So many of the pieces are truly one-of-a-kind. The composition on the floor is always interesting, inspiring and ever changing. The overall aesthetic is spot on. You can always find a bargain on some gem. For those ready to invest in a significant piece for your decor, look at Scout first and talk to the owner or his staff. Stumbled on this fun and well merchandised shop quite by chance on an antiques buying trip recently. I was actually following an antique's map not intending to visit Scout and it was across the street from the shop I was planning on visiting. Boy was I glad I stopped in. They really do a great job of blending the old and new elements. Lots of mixed medium stuff. I found a great science cabinet, modern and interesting lamps and even an American Flag beautifully framed from the turn of the century. The first day I went in I was helped by Nicholas. He was passionate, knew his stuff and flexible when I asked for a better price. The next day I met Larry the owner who is just a delightful guy. I actually made several purchases and was helped by Brian who packed my truck with my newly acquired items. An overall superb experience with unparalleled service. It's the kind of shop I wish I had here in NY (actually we have them but their prices are insane) and would not hesitate to recommend. Thanks Scout!! I look forward to returning. read more

I thought this place was like a little gem. It's like they picked through all the crap at a massive flea market and took only the supercoolest needles in the haystack, then breathed new life into them and marked them up big time. Nonetheless, this place was a delight and the stuff in there is worth it. Next to nothing is new; almost everything is a reworked, repurposed or revitalized antique, vintage or flea market find. I loved every single thing in there: the Lucite coffee table (for $400), the old oak farm table, the giant Gustave Eiffel books, the vintage canisters, and the funky lamps and chandeliers. The owner and the other lady I spoke with while I was in there were extremely friendly and gracious, which goes a long way with me. This place is TEENY tiny and has a certain flavor to it - it's where I would go for something unique when I was all shopped out at Pottery Barn, CB2 and every other predictable cookie cutter place. read more

The coolest shop in Andersonville. As the name implies, the owner has found home decor gems and saves you the trouble of going to loads of resale shops and antique stores fishing around for good stuff. the merchandise is interesting and well-displayed. There's not much more that needs to be written about Scout. I've purchased many items from Scout over the last several years and the owner, Larry, has always suggested just the right object for my home and business. Great selection of unique lamps that you just won't find anywhere else in the city. I'm hoping Scout will include some nice stocking stuffers for the holidays. read more
