It's been a long time since I've been to Andersonville Galleria. It's a great concept, having spaces for lots of different artists, stores, creators, and so on to sell there wares here on Clark Street. You'll find all kinds of stuff here: clothing, jewelry, artwork, food, and so on. There are two floors, a mezzanine level between the first and second floor, and then a little "loft" area above the second floor. One thing I really like about AG is that you aren't making individual purchases with each merchant; there's a single checkout at the very front of the store and then they sort it all out on the back end. The merchant stalls don't usually have the creator there unless they're restocking or maybe they're doing some sort of special event. There's a small changing room since there are several booths that have clothing. It can be a little cramped in here, so I'm not sure how easily someone with mobility issues/wheelchair users might be able to navigate it, but there is a lift (though I think it requires help from the staff to use). There's no parking dedicated to this business, so it's all street parking or you can use the bus, of course. And it's Andersonville, so parking goes really quickly unless you are here in the morning. read more

I have nothing personal against this store or the people who sell there, but for me it was underwhelming. There is a lot of stuff, but it is very generic. The "art" they sell is the kind that goes on a greeting card or t-shirt. Some booths sell crafts like you can find on Etsy--upcycled clothes and amigurumi or felt toys (which were cute enough but nothing amazing). Others sell imported items. It wasn't always clear if they were fair trade or not. In fact, that was one of the things that bugged me: many booths' lack of transparency on where these items were made/who made them. A lot of items looked mass produced, so it was hard to tell what wasn't. Basically this store exemplifies what happens when you commercialize art. Everything converges under market pressure and ends up looking the same. Personally antique malls are my style. They have a similar concept (many vendors in one space), but much more interesting and greater variety of items. read more

When it comes to marketplaces that really honor the crafts people and illustrators you can't really top Andersonville Galleria. The products are all one of a kind and offer unique gifts that will make you stand out. The vendors are all pretty affordable and highly suggest to come here for Christmas shopping. This was one of the coolest, funkiest and most niche stores I have ever been to. I'm always on the search for shops like these. There are 3 huge floors all filled completely with art from local vendors, and all of it is extremely creative. I didn't even want to leave. Thank goodness we came in just 15 minutes before closing time and found so many great goodies. Pricing was fair for everything given that it was all hand made! I absolutely love it here. The end. Andersonville Galleria is the perfect place to shop; whether you want to buy some locals gifts for your loved-ones or, if you're like me, for yourself. It really is amazing. First- the front staff is so friendly. The team who checks you out at the end was always so nice to deal with. I stopped by a few times while I was in Chicago and no matter who I dealt with, they were friendliest of people. Okay, now the inside is this huge building filled with various local artists. I love buying postcards, greeting cards, ornaments and such while I travel, and this had all of that and then some. The downside is only that the artists aren't there to tell them how amazing their stuff is. Many have their socials listed so you can follow and hopefully order more later. Being that they are local artists, the prices aren't always the cheapest but it's totally worth supporting. I was here toward the holidays and got a ton of cool ornaments for my tree, as well as some for friends. Now that I know what to expect inside, I'm budgeting out extra money just for here. This is a great place to visit on a lazy weekend. I was wandering around Andersonville today and found this charming indoor market. It's a multi-story market with individual stalls selling wares by different artists. Imagine the arts section of a farmer's market, but all in an indoor store. You'll find a wide array of paintings, pottery, greeting cards, handmade dolls, potted plants, and much more here. Explore the narrow winding walkways, tiny stairwells with hairpin turns, and you're bound to find something that suits your fancy. There's four levels to see in total. If you are claustrophobic, this may not be the place for you. You check out at the single cashier at the front of the store. Want local art? This is the place to get it! This place is like an art show every day of the year. The place is organized like a shopping mall of local artist. Each artist has their own little booth, where they set their own prices, and their own themes. As you cruise around, you see that the City of Chicago is a particularly popular theme for the artists. So if you're visiting Chicago, and want something other than the typical stuff that you see from Chicago, like a Cubs jersey or something, this is the place to get it. They've got artwork in nearly every media here. If you don't like the art in front of you while you're in here, go over about 8 feet, and there's another new artist showing off completely different goods. The register at the front figures out how to pay whom for the purchases, so it's not like there's a little register in each little booth. This place is great! So many artists under one roof and plenty of different types of art from vintage to modern. I spent over an hour here on a Saturday afternoon maneuvering the three floors of art, local foods, and clothes. There was a lot of great Chicago-inspired art which is what I was looking for and I came home with a reasonable piece (under $50). Some of the artists were in the store which made the shopping experience more fun and according to the cashier a different artist takes over the third floor studio each month. I could tell most of the store was locally-made and unique, but there was one booth selling some wholesale clothes and accessories. This disappointed me greatly and if I could I would rate the galleria 4.5 stars. Despite the one booth which sells things I could find on Amazon the galleria is a good choice If you're looking for a gift or need some art. If the Andersonville is inconvenient know that there are quite a few other home stores on the block and some good restaurants and cafes nearby to make the trek worthwhile! read more

Multiple levels make for an interesting (maze-like) feel, but I'm glad they are making the most of the space and trying to showcase all these unique items. The Galleria is right in the middle of Andersonville! Great location and next to a lot of other cool shops in the neighborhood. I'm sure the artists and vendors pay a premium for their presence in the Galleria. Not a lot of folks take that into account with the merchandise pricing. But if you think about just renting space in a shared area would be significantly less that owning your own brick and mortar store (and subsequently drive up costs). read more

This place is a gem! I spent some time exploring Andersonville on Sunday, and I didn't realize how cute of a neighborhood it is. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside, because it spans 3 floors. Some of the stairs were quite narrow and steep, though, so that scared me a little bit. There are a lot of artwork, craft, photography, plants, candles, jewelry, etc., and it took a while for me to just look at everything. There are a lot of Chicago-themed things that are good as gifts or as souvenirs if you are a tourist in Chicago. The staff are really nice, too. read more

I am so happy I finally made the trip up here to Andersonville, and wholly regret not checking out this place sooner. It's a massive space to showcase and sell artwork and gifts from over 50 talented local artists and artisans. You're free to peruse and each little vendor's space, and sometimes you'll even find the artist present to answer questions. Otherwise, you can check the prices labels and grab whatever catches your eye and check-out at the front of the Galleria. The Galleria features so many types of mediums, from prints and paintings, to buttons and pins, plants, metalwork, candles, mosaics, clothing, toys and bowties for your four-legged friends, and so much more. There's plenty of Chicago-themed art and gifts as well, depicting famous landmarks, neighborhoods, the city flag, etc. It's a perfect place to do some holiday shopping or for out-of-towners to find some unique and memorable souvenirs. I've lived in Chicago for 8 years and in many neighborhoods: Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Square, and now FINALLY ANDERSONVILLE! I have been coming to the galleria since I moved to the city, but I am most excited about being a short 12 minute walk from one of my absolute favorite shops! I love everything about this place. It's a wonderful way for artists to share their work and shoppers to discover unique finds while supporting local artists. The layout makes the adventure all the more enjoyable. Even my 70 year old mom manages to turn into an excited child climbing the different stairways with her cane. Every employee is delightful and helpful. In my 8 years of shopping at the galleria I have never received anything other than exceptional customer service. Big applause to the employees and to management for clearly maintaining a very happy staff. Of course, being an art galleria prices can be expensive, however, the cost is worth the craft in my opinion. Additionally, there are plenty of less expensive pieces, making this store a rare find for shoppers of all budgets. The galleria is a MUST for ALL Chicagoans and visitors alike! The Andersonville Galleria is a shopping asset which I have overlooked for too long. It is like a local artisan mini-mall, with a wide variety of options all under one roof. I am convinced that a person could do the entirety of his or her holiday shopping in there. Anything that you find at the Galleria is better for your soul--and the receiver's--than some cheap China-made garbage from Target. It's an absolute treasure trove of (mostly?) local goods such as candles, greeting cards, snarky and/or inspirational magnets and signs, ceramics and glassware, lots and lots of jewelry and women's apparel, a wide variety of two-dimensional artwork, and on and on, as well as a few more unique finds. Even high-end olive oil and chocolate sauce. Chicago-centric goods abound, such as photographs and prints, gorgeous vintage maps, CTA station knick-knacks, t-shirts and baby onesies, etc etc. One of the coolest things that I saw there this season is the Sockitty and MyMouse cat toys, whose display includes a tablet showing a video of numerous shelter cats loving the bejeesus out of the toy. A friend and I had stumbled upon this gem of a galleria in the Andersonville area. Out of the four galleries that we had walked into, Andersonville Galleria had the most to offer to customers. When entering you will discover this galleria is made up of many, many mini kiosks of various artists and jewelry makers. You can easily lose track of time since this store is multi leveled. Just plan to spend some time here - it's not a sprint thru store. I, personally enjoy looking at the prints while my friend was enjoying the jewelry displays. BTW... prices weren't to bad. My fridge was empty of food so I chose to go grocery at this mall. Its location is just near the apartment where I live. I just commute because I don't have a car yet but you can see here the huge space of their parking. When I enter, there are so many people inside. When I enter, there are so many people inside. It's huge and had so many different shelves and every shelves are full of stocks. They have level in every section to find easily what you are looking. Staff helped me pick up the food that I want in the top part of the shelves. He even helped me to push my cart in the counter area. This place has really come a long way. It's still the "Store With Things No One Really Needs", but now there are a lot more things you would probably want. A few food vendors, more affordable art and jewelry - IfAGoddessWoreMakeup on the 2nd floor with fabulous skincare and makeup. As they add on more stalls, it's becoming a sort of rabbit warren of treasures. I liked that I got a bit disoriented once inside, but kept finding cool stuff. It seems like they're really trying to become a good Andersonville resident - so, I give 'em another star. I hope they prosper since they are giving local artisans a place to sell their wares. OMG--I just realized my pal, Erika, reviewed this place and I BOUGHT THE SAME ITEM SHE DID! How funny is that? Well her review is spot on, except I don't know the history of this place. A friend of mine and I spent a hard earned half-hour in here during a pouring rainstorm. Refuge aside, this was one neat place. Probably 20 or so "booths"--really, more like open closets without the door--set up with trinkety stuff, bric-a-brac, object d'art, whatever. Just a lot of artisans trying to make a living selling home furnishings, jewelry and whatever else you want to spend your disposable income on. The shop was clean, inviting, filled with fun stuff (yes, I bought a $6 travel candle), and the ladies working the register were extremely pleasant. Oh, they're closed Mondays...just like museums. Honestly, the Galleria has always been one of my favorite places to visit, especially at holiday time. Like an art show on steroids, my recent visit reminded me of how much respect I have for the independent artist. If you haven't been here, it's a place where independent businesses and local artists rent a monthly booth space and introduce their goods to the public. It's a brilliant concept, because the artist gets to test their product out and see what kind of reaction the public has without the commitment of an actual storefront. From Julius Meinl coffee, to flea market finds, to jewelry, to olive oil, to hand knitted sweaters, you can find a one-of-a-kind gift for every occasion...even when you don't have one! I am a huge fan of anything screen-printed and adore the variety of printed towels, aprons, and totes. Featuring three levels of shopping greatness with more than 90 artists, plan to stay for awhile. The good thing is if you're hungry, Andersonville has a slew of restaurants and coffee shops where you can grab a nosh before or after the 'show'. Danger, danger! Proceed with caution, because you'll be hooked from the start and will no doubt look forward to your next return. I mean, how can you not want to come back? read more
