The exam was not conducted as thoroughly as it should have been, and he ran four cytology tests only to prescribe the same medication they always receive. After spending $700 for a basic allergy appointment, I am definitely not coming back. Additionally, I am still waiting for a prescription that was supposed to be sent to Costco; two days later, I still don't have the medication my dogs need. This is absolutely unacceptable.

I raised the possibility with her two times over the course of a couple months--both because his lab values were high and the dose seemed high (higher than what I take as a human). She finally admitted she screwed up and he was indeed WAY over medicated. We had bought the medication from them and had spent hundreds of dollars trying to dial in a dose that could never work. They offered to refund me ONLY if I signed a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT. They don't want me sharing what happened with anyone. Someone from the corporate office even called and asked me to consider what this could do to the vets career if I shared my story!!!!!! What about my cat and all of our pets? I believe I have a duty as an animal lover to say what happened, even if it means they won't refund me. So now I'm left to handle this in small claim's court and I found a new vet who will hopefully care more about my pet's health. I chose a private practice and not a corporate one, that's for sure.

Riser Animal Hospital is NOT the same place since the Baukarts sold their practice to a new owner!…read morePlease, do not take your beloved pets there....do your homework and find another Veterinary practice! so long as everything is going fine you'll have no problems. However, in an emergency, they will not make room for you even if you're a longtime client to bring your dog in that is under duress or needs immediate medical attention. They'll send you to Blue Pearl (a money grab relationship they must have with this organization and a chop shop). When my dog needed immediate attention, I had to wait a week to see a vet, and not the one that we originally started with, as he was too busy to see my dog. Recently, my neighbor dog, who had cancer needed the dog to be euthanized due to his hind legs that stopped working, he was not eating or drinking water. When we called, Riser couldn't fit them in because they were just too booked. we explained, that the dog was suffering and would they please make room for them to come in and bring their dog (mind you one of the most heart wrenching decisions you have to make for your beloved Pet). The receptionist didn't even check to see if a vet would be available to do the procedure. With attitude she just kept saying we're two booked solid. You'll have to wait until after the weekend.! my neighbor asked her name, and she began to stutter and get all worried, but just kept repeating that they could not make room. She was told that we would be writing negative review about Riser and reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Her response, "" OK"... Anything else and hung up the phone!!!! shame on the owners and the vets that work at Riser Hospital, as well as those that answer phones and make life or death decisions without even consulting vets. Please read another review where a poor dog was brought in in good health for a teeth cleaning, and died hours later after the owner brought their beloved dog home. The reason... That left him unattended when dog was coming out of anesthesia and gave him some kind of medication to wake him up quicker because she had to go pick up her child from school! No other vet was monitoring the dogs. She just left him there... Again, do not bring your dog to Riser and if you have anything such as this go wrong. Report the vet to the Illinois Department of financial & professional regulations.

I have to write this review so people know exactly what to expect, good and bad…read more Front desk staff: Lindsay and Melissa are fantastic but the rest of the staff is hit or miss. Cory is extremely mood dependent and can be super nice or super rude. Nicole is just rude. Nicole let us know they fired Mella, one of our favorite staff along with Lindsay. Also, not sure why Nicole violated the rules by telling me but it felt unprofessional. Expect attitude and brusqueness. Booking Appointments: Normal. Phone calls and you can book online now. Book weeks in advance unless you fight the phone lines for cancellations at 7:30am. Fairly normal for a Vet practice. You can often get lucky if persistent but you must call multiple times until you get through. They have an app that is very helpful and I recommend downloading. Also they do a great job sending reminders and confirming appointments. Location: Off a main street (Skokie Blvd) and Main street. Good location. Nice building. Always clean. Smells nice. They have dedicated parking spaces. Waiting room has ample chairs and space. Cost: General visits for a dog cost me 700-800 with shots. That's crazy!! No sickness. Shots and a check up. So that's insane. They charged me about 4k last summer for what turned out to be allergies treated with cytopoint and a mange pill. Expect estimates to exceed their high cost. Vet tech appointments for fluids are easy and cost effective. Experiences: I went here the first time in 2007/8 and did a vet check and flea check. The doctor said no fleas. Turns out there were fleas and had to deal with more issues and a different vet. I stopped going. After about 12 years I gave them another chance as my previous vet moved. Incidents I've had over the last few years: Told by Dr. Miz my dog Barbara's labs weren't exciting and she was fine. Kept telling him she was lethargic and sick and wasn't herself. Even the staff knew she wasn't herself. He didn't think it was a big deal and I was exaggerating. She was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer the next week by another vet and went immediately into emergency treatment and crossed the rainbow bridge. She suffered for a week due to his misdiagnosis. Exact words on file were "Labs not exciting" Next, took them over six months to diagnose my older dog with senior mange and put him through months of expensive treatments when he needed a pill. It was horrific seeing his hair and face bubble and lose skin. Turns out his chronic kidney disease they were treating him for made hm susceptible. When I adopted a dog from Orphans of The Storm, they did her spay. She came out a completely different dog who couldn't pee the same. I was told by others in the Vet community they do cheaper spays and less anesthesia foe the rescues. What's good? Dr. Stewart is an absolute gem. She is the only reason I kept going after my traumatic experience losing Barbara. Dr. Zoe seems great as well. Dr. Miz....I don't know what to think. Part of me wants to like him because while my first experiences were so awful the lat time I saw him was really kind. He's the owner and he does have a kind face and demeanor. Dr. Zoe is wonderful and a great addition. Seriously great attitude. Bottom line: Roll the dice. You might get lucky for a while if your pet has no issues. If you're pet is sick, well, it's really hit or miss. I am leaving this because thank goodness I've moved states and no longer rely on them for Dante. Dr. Miz, since I know you read this: My advice? Train the staff to just have kindness. You have some awesome people and your vets are great. But we can't get them if your staff makes it uncomfortable to make an appointment or call in. Customer service is really starting to lack and that was never the case before. I really appreciate you for the last time I saw you and felt you were kind. As the owner, maybe you don't know some of this. I would love to have left a better review but I couldn't in good conscious. I hope it does improve because I do believe you love animals and do care and so Dr. Stewart and Dr. Zoe.

Decline or prepare to defend yourself against lectures and dismissal ! When My Neighborhood Vet couldn't fit my sick dog in for two weeks, I desperately called other vets for an appointment. After speaking with Mari, my dog was seen by Dr. Sue and put on meds to control diarrhea. During the exam, my female dog was constantly referred to as "he." The receipt showed her color as "fawn" - she is black. I was given a "Puppy Packet" during the exam, the vet then showed me, at length, different pet-related services she has financial arrangements with. I didn't appreciate my time being wasted with marketing ventures. The packet contained at least 1/3 of a paper ream, when everyone's on a smartphone. My attempts to get her to stop explaining the services were futile. After the visit, I received an email survey. I'd formed an opinion and decided to wait until after a few more visits to see if anything changed. After a fecal drop off, I received a call to "pay my outstanding bill" (under $70) and told the office manager wanted to speak to me (weird, she had my phone and email...), from which I deduced she had a problem with my survey answers. I did not call, figuring her fingers work as well as mine. Our next visit, my dog was announced via intercom, which wasn't usual. When paying, I felt a presence behind me: Mari, waiting to nab me. She took me to a room and proceeded to vent about how mean I was to her staff and how she'd never had such a petty review. My review mentioned: desk staff does not make you feel welcome, perhaps because they are all young and don't know how to treat clients. My dog was constantly referred to as "he" by the vet and identified incorrectly in their system. I did not appreciate the giant info packet that wasted trees, etc. Mari explained the paper away by saying "elderly people often don't know how to use the internet" ... ageist! She had the temerity to scold me for not thanking her for getting me an appointment (apparently she did not remember the many times I said "thanks for getting us in" during our phone calls). She claimed I made staff uncomfortable and they were "afraid" of me because they saw my survey answers. She said she'd never heard staff acting unfriendly. Exactly my point: staff didn't greet me, that's why you didn't hear them. When people take money for a service rendered, they should thank patrons for choosing their business! I was never mean to staff, they barely interacted with me. A correct response to receiving valid complaints is to say you will work on the issues, not explain them away, shush and school me on how to have an adult conversation by "taking turns speaking" and you are the one speaking now. It confirmed my opinion of TLC doing things their way or the highway. No "The Customer is Always Right." If Mari was my employee and I caught her berating a client like they were a kid in the assistant principle's office, I'd fire her ASAP. When I left and looked at my receipt, my dog was STILL incorrectly identified as "fawn." If TLC can't correct small things, what about bigger things?! IMHO, many Yelpers leave honest reviews. Apparently, Dr. Sue has given Mari responsibility for booting clients she doesn't like. This previous reviewer was accurate: 7/7/2019 Not happy at all dr sue is not a friendly vet an if you don't agree with her she has a attitude towards you for as long as you go there. She picks an choses who she likes. Office staff very unfriendly an no helpful at all. Its all about the money with this place At no time did Dr. Sue contact me. This is a practice where clients are not allowed to have an opinion yet one where they believe your dogs can "speak" to you (see photo). P.S. Beware of upcharging! Phone quotes were lower than actual prices. TLC invoiced a bio-hazard fee to EVERY fecal and vaccination. Disposal should be absorbed by the practice, not be another way to extract money from clients. Eg: I walk dogs for a living. I handle poo daily. I don't charge clients for poop bags, they are part of my business expenses.

This location also housed an exotic animal hospital and I loved one of the doctors with that place that has moved to a separate location. Every animal who was brought into this place has died. I understand these vets are not GOD and we are bringing in our beloved animals who are sick or ill and there may be nothing the vets could do HOWEVER..... I had a hamster I paid $5000 to remove I thought permanently, or so I thought it was permanent, a malocclusion or tooth that grew straight backwards into the poor creature's skull and out its face. Nope, grew back worse than before and that poor thing died horribly. That said I am attaching my review for the Northfield location because I found a Yelp review helpful when desperate to save my dog. I feel about the same at this point with this location. So here it is: Ummm so.... I found Rockford Animal Hospital from right here on Yelp . This BluePearl is part of a Corporate thing that is only interested in money. I guess it is the NorthShore and we need to justify a big salary and high real estate for this place but yeah.... This is involving a creature who is part of your family.... The staff was very cold and sorry that quote was insane. I have also been to the BluePearl in Skokie. If you find yourself in a financial pickle and you can drive to these locations, obviously NOT an option in some emergency situations.....BUT if you can, check out these places: they are worth the trip. I have a dog who had a tick and ended up with an autoimmune situation. $3500 paid to BluePearl here for just an antibiotic but quoted $13,000 for antibiotics, testing a a few days stay which I could NOT afford at that time and we went on our way. 1. Bowes Animal Hospital in Elgin just did dentistry on my poor baby when no one else would take her. They were affordable, competent, transparent, compassionate and made me feel at ease. 22 extractions and she is doing great! This is a 3 doctor place that is independently owned and operated. Delightful doctors, techs and office staff. They are wonderful!!! 2 hour drive 1 way. We will be driving back there next year for an annual checkup. 2. Premier Animal Emergency Hospital Ethos on Belmont in Chicago. This has been her "regular vet" since they have an internal medicine specialist since no one nearby seems knowledgeable about what her autoimmune situation is all about. Testing is much more affordable, kind and compassionate staff. I completely forgot this place did a crazy complicated surgery on my old JRT a decade and a half ago on his broken leg and involved 63 pins... My beloved dog literally ran full tilt on that leg until the day he died. 3. Rockford Emergency Animal Hospital in Rockford Illinois. My baby spent multiple nights over the course of a month when all of this started a few years ago to figure out what to do to help her. This is a 3 hour drive for me 1 way. Just to be clear, all of those visits and extended time staying many overnights with someone monitoring her extremely high fever, continuous IV, an entire panel of bloodwork antibiotic protocol and when that didn't work we went to steroids. This whole thing was a fraction of the $13,000 BluePearl quoted for just the little start. Even if you tag on the $1000 in missed tolls and hotel stay because I was in such duress driving hours back and forth in desperation to keep this sweet creature alive I think I might have gone a little over $5000. $13,000 would have wiped me out beyond imagination and would have ended up being a death sentence. All the visits to the 3 above places IN TOTAL over a few years has now have come to that $13,000 mark quoted way back and my dog is stable and thriving.

The techs at My Neighborhood Vet are also incompetent.  I had to stop getting my cat's blood drawn there for testing because they were unable to successfully get the blood or do it before the blood clotted.  One time it took multiple techs and four attempts to do it.  My cat was put in so much distress and pain as a result.  It was very hard to watch. They also could never test her urine bc they claimed her bladder was very small so they couldn't collect the urine.  The new vet has had zero issues doing blood or urine draws of my cat. At a visit Dr. Ross also turned my 18-year-old sick cat away bc I was exactly two minutes late to the appointment.  That is unethical and unprofessional.  If you have circumstances out of your control that cause you to arrive - literally - even one minute outside of their 10 minute grace period, be prepared to have your appointment cancelled when you get there, even if your pet is sick. Life happens, I'd prefer to have a vet that understands that. Do yourself and your pet a favor and go elsewhere.  The care at My Neighborhood Vet is subpar, incomplete, pharmaceutical focused and the customer service and treatment of their customers is horrendous.
