You never forget your first time. It was a Thursday. Raining buckets. I had just moved to Nash. Rode a Byrd scooter from The Nations down to Sylvan Park through puddles of tears left by failed country artists. I entered Scout's looking like Grizzly Adams walked through a car wash. I was immediately handed a fresh, local beer and was told by the receptionist "Hey. We gotchu, fam." The lights dimmed and distinct entrance music played, I believe it to be the opening track of the 1999 classic H.I.M. album Razorblade Romance. Out from the back walks this 4 foot 9 inch Italian with Siberian tigers on each side of her. "The 'Master' is ready for you." The "master" in this case referred to Mastrodonato. Caitie Mastrodonato. A half hour later, I left Scouts 25lbs lighter, my stutter had significantly cleared up, and I was able to hear out of my left ear again. I walked outside. The sun was shining so bright, it hurt. While walking home, I delivered a litter of puppies, pulled a young gentleman from a burning car accident on Charlotte, and got my real estate license from my cell phone. I'm now a self-made millionaire thanks to the Nashville housing market. All thanks to Caitie and my new haircut. read more

She proceeded to take a huge gouge out the side of my head. I went back twice to get it fixed but, walked out disappointed with end result. She explained everything she was doing and why, which put my mind at ease and helped me understand the process. Barb is 100% honest. Finally caved in and went to chop off all the quarantine hair after several months. When my usual barbershop basically doubled to price for their services bc of the COVID pandemic (which is totally understandable), i had to find a relatively cheaper option. I've heard about Scout's and decided to try them out and I'm so glad I did. The barbers there are extremely friendly and welcoming with a large open space. It's also a place for both men and women to get their haircut so it's an all around all-inclusive experience. My hair is hard to cut sometimes with the way it grows and how thick it is, so I'm very specific and picky with the way it gets cut, but they nailed it! Had to have my beard trimmed as well and after being turned away from other places in town , this place took me in and gave me a drink while I waited. The price was reasonable and the service was above and beyond. If in the area and need a cut this is definitely the right place to go. Barb is THE BEST. She gave me a free consult to talk through what my hair goals were -- this gave me a chance to show her photos and get guidance on what types of looks would work best with my hair. It's scary going into a shop not knowing exactly what you want or having a bunch of ideas. Barb helped me nail down what I really wanted and did it beautifully! She also talked me through every step of the way so there were no bad surprises when the chair turned around. Barb's done her research, knows her stuff and you can tell this is her passion. The problem with this place is you never know whether you're going to get a skilled person or someone who has no idea what they're doing. Today I had the displeasure of working with a woman named Andy who literally massacred the top of my hair. I asked for a fade and instead what I got was my head sheared all the way up onto the top and then the top of my hair left long and uneven. It's the worst hair cut I've ever paid for. Unfortunately, I have to recommend skipping this place as they don't always hire quality stylists. The staff is really nice, and the place is clean. Two stars because my previous three hair cuts were good enough for the price. read more

Scouts barbershop is a gem in Nashville. Their prices are reasonable and you don't have to worry about forgetting to set up and appointment, you can just walk right in! So if you roll out of bed and decide you want to get a haircut you can certainly do that. The atmosphere is always so chill and friendly. Everyone who works there is super knowledgeable and makes you feel very welcome. The past few times I've been in I've requested Barb. This lady right here is literally THE BEST! I'm so glad I stumbled upon her Instagram a few months ago. I love the work that she does! She's cut & colored my hair a few times now and I've never left disappointed. I love how knowledgeable she is as well. You can literally ask her anything! She's also really great at trying to find out what you want as a client. She will make sure you get exactly what you want. I've been twice and both times the cut has been just fine. They employ talented and friendly people who are proficient at what they do. The problem with Scout's is the strange relationship it has with Vagaro. They USE it, but they don't USE USE it. They turn it on in the morning FOR THAT DAY, presumably because they want to maintain a Hipster "just walk in vibe". I have no problem that they do this except that it doesn't really work for people who are busy and on the go! I like to be able to plan my haircuts on a schedule, and not being able to do this will likely prevent my return to Scout's for a third go. read more

I typically only come here to get my bangs trimmed, but I don't think I can anymore. Every time I go in, someone different cuts my hair, and I've never really gotten great results. There's always something wrong with it. But after going home and crying about my hair today, I can't go back. I'm not going to completely throw the girl who ruined my hair under the bus, so I'll leave her name out. I told her that I have a cowlick on one side of my head so that she could use that knowledge and cut accordingly, because every other hairdresser I've used has done that. However, she completely ignored that information, so now my bangs are insanely crooked. Also, I had told her that my bangs are supposed to frame my face, but she didn't start framing them until they were already completely across my forehead. Not to mention they are way too short now. I am so upset now. She could tell I wasn't happy with them, so she knocked $5 off which was kind of her. But now I have to live with lopsided bangs for about three weeks. read more

I love this shop. The barbers are great at what they do. Getting a beer or cold brew coffee is also a great perk. It is, however, really frustrating that your appointment time generally means nothing. Two times in a row I've showed up early for my appointment only to wait 30+ minutes for a chair. I even tried to book with the "first available" barber on their website and it didn't help at all. Trying to get a cut on your lunch break is more or less impossible because of this. Fortunately I work from home and my schedule is flexible most days. But it's still really unfortunate. 5 stars for quality of work and atmosphere. 1-2 stars for their scheduling system. read more

This however has not changed my experience with my stylist Jessica. She is amazing at her skill and the main reason I have been a long time customer. I've been going to Scout's for about 2 years now. My review is on Scout's west in general, but mostly on the amazing Rachel Jordan. I started going here mostly out of convenience--first several times I went I just had my hair cut by whoever was free. Sometimes it was great, other times I could've asked for more. I love the atmosphere, the tunes are almost always on point, the free coffee or beer, and a general model of no appointments just call-ahead lists. I don't want to make an appointment for a haircut a week out--I want to essentially call ahead and just walk in when its a day that is convenient. Eventually, I got paired with Rachel and 1.5 years later not only are we basically going haircut-steady in this relationship, but I've recruited my wife to get her hair cut by Rachel too. Rachel is ALWAYS, and people, I mean ALWAYS in a good mood and happy to see us. I've loved our convos, and honestly her personality is as much of a pick-me-up on a bad day as her great haircuts. She recently made a post about doing what you love, and loving what you do. Rachel does that every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I've learned a lot about hair care from her as well--and have found the perfect hair product to use that is just enough, but not too much, and smells amazing (shout out to Kevin Murphy Free Hold). After moving to the west side of nashville I wasn't sure where to look for a solid haircut. I was familiar with Scout's on the east side but my stylist moved to Franklin. Really glad I stopped in when I did! I get a bit anxious about who cuts my hair but Sarah really knew how to handle the crazy cowlick I got growin' on the back of my head. Aside from the great cuts, she's really down to earth and easy to chat with :) highly recommend asking for her. Only negative was a girl at the front desk who wasn't very friendly but she has since left and the vibe at this location has definitely improved. I've always been very weary about who I let cut my hair and I did a lot of digging after moving to Nashville to find someone I would be comfortable with. I ended up going to Barbara at Scout's to cut a significant amount of my hair off after not touching my hair for 3 years. She suggested I not go as short as I was planning, which I'm glad she did because even the length we cut it, it took some time to get used to. A little over a month later, I went back and we cut it to the length I wanted to in the beginning. I couldn't be happier. I'll definitely be visiting Barbara again and again. Scout's has a great environment and I appreciate having the possible of booking an appointment online. Cassidy did a great job on my cut and I we had a good conversion about the area (I am new to TN). The reason for the three stars is that the online appointment was great, but I sat in there waiting area for 40 minutes. I know we all have busy schedules, but this is an area that needs to be corrected from the customers point of view. Still would recommend Scout's but be prepared to wait around... read more
