After a procedure at Scripps Clinic, I decided to have some breakfast at the Scripps Green Hospital Cafeteria. After looking around, I decided on a hot breakfast at the grill, specifically a Breakfast Quesadilla (5/5). It had eggs, sausage patty and cheese wrapped in a tortilla. Cost? Hot items are priced at 60c per ounce. So, the 10+ ounce Quesadilla cost $6.41 plus tax. It was great! Service was very good. The overall ambiance was moderne and very comfortable. read more

I'm really impressed! Definitely pretty good Cafeteria food. Then again, this is snotty La Jolla. The items available the day I was there are: Pecan crusted whitefish, Spinach Raviolli, and Lamb Shank. Can you guess what Miss Dani, the carni-whore ordered? Of course the gigantic lamb shank that was bigger than my face with stir fried vegetables on the side. The lamb shank was sooo good, meat was soft, juicy and following off the bones, all that for only $4.59! For hospital cafeteria food, this place sets a new standard. They have new grill and hot menus each day, but my favorite is their soup bar. Outside of main meal times the bar looks sad and under stocked, but much more impressive at lunch time. Fortunately there are plenty of places to sit both inside and out. read more

Price gouging!!! Nothing less. Over the years I have eaten here since I work close by and can walk. 3 yrs ago I could get sides of rice and black beans (I am a vegetarian) for $4. Then they turned to price by weight and it has been $6 (rice and beans, common cheap food). They raised weight prices and I just paid $9.50!!!!!! for rice and black beans. They cost almost nothing but weigh much and this sticks it to those on a budget and who try to eat inexpensive foods. Stay away! It's deplorable to gouge of hard working folks. Other foods may cost more and deserve the price y weight but don't make me pay for their expensive foods. Beans and rice folks; costs nothing even with preparation and service added in. read more

OMG, this food is wonderful. Can't believe it's a hospital! Food is fresh, varied and very reasonably priced. Stroll through all the stations before choosing. As wonderful as the salad bar (had it two nights in a row) is, I would have chosen the "brown rice bowl bar" last night if I'd seen it first. It's like a make-your-own poke station. The salad bar station is always here but the rice bowl station was gone tonight, replaced by a stuff- your-own baked potato bar. I've been here all week while my husband recovers from surgery and I'll be here a couple more evenings. I'm hoping I'll get a second shot at that panko-encrusted sole. It looked beautiful. l'll miss coming here when my husband is discharged! BTW, Ive never paid more than $5 for a very satisfying meal here. VERY IMPRESSED! At Green hospital it is incredibly easy to find yummy, healthy and affordable "comfort food" during such a difficult time for many. The salad bar has endless veggies to pick from, with an additional build your own sandwich bar. I LOVED THIS because I am vegetarian and my sister is vegan. The grill cooks are incredible and will cater to your dietary needs as much as they can. The hot food options change everyday. The Dim sum and Mac N Cheese bar are two of my favorites. Leave the stress of packing a lunch at home and head down to the cafeteria! read more

Who knew hospital food would be good??? I was plesantly suprised with the Scripps Green Hospital cafeteria. They have really good food and their daily menu is definately restaurant quality. To top it off, their prices are in competition with fast food places. Most folks wouldn't go there unless they had to be at the hospital for something, but thought you'd like to know. read more

This is a 4 star review compared to other hospital cafeterias, not to restaurants (or even regular cafeterias) in general. During my wife's stay, I ate here several times a week, and have eaten each meal of the day at the Scripps Green Cafeteria probably no fewer than 10 times each. The salad bar is pretty good, you can make sandwiches, they always have 3 soups (or 2 soups and chili) available, and there is a decent selection of fresh fruit. They also do a "salad of the week," like Asian chicken salad or BBQ ranch chicken salad. These are hit or miss, but I've had a couple (like the Asian chicken salad) that were very good. These are (as of the writing of this review on 3-29-14) 35 cents per pound. During the week, they do a "build your own" bar for lunch and dinner. This may include items such as: taco salad, French fries, hot dogs, chili, wraps. Basically, you get to prepare an item with a bunch of different toppings or ingredients. This is also 35 cents per pound. The hot food is hit or miss as well. They always have a vegetarian option, and usually a fish option in addition to a bunch of cafeteria classics. They also have a healthy option of the day that comes with 2 sides and a piece of fruit. I've had a couple of very good things, a couple of decent things, and a couple of bad things. The grill is pretty standard: burgers, grilled cheese, etc. They have a daily grill special that will be a special burger, sandwich, or something similar. They put out fries, onion rings, and chicken tenders. If you get these when they're hot, they're pretty good, particularly the chicken tenders and onion rings. On the weekends, it's a bare bones operation. Not as many employees, the grill is closed, and the hot good is limited. Also, the hours are shorter. So, plan accordingly. Plenty of places to sit, and they keep it pretty clean. I usually like to sit outside, there is a large patio in the back. Certainly not as good as a restaurant, but for a hospital cafeteria I've seen much worse. read more

This is a wonderful cafeteria, the prices are very reasonable and the food is very good. I had to have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner here due to my girlfriend being at the hospital. Sitting out on the patio, overlooking Torrey Pines golf course and the ocean, you couldn't find a prettier setting. I especially love the breakfast. read more

I had chicken tenders and a turkey burger with cheese for lunch; it was decent. I have had worser cafeteria food from hospitals. Compared to most, this on the better end of the spectrum. However there isn't anything spectacular about this place that would make me stop by the hospital for a quick bite. Really mediocre. Been an employee at TSRI for years and quality of food and staff has decreased dramatically. The price of the Teriyaki Bowl went up from $3.95 to $4.50 overnight with no explanation, no improved amount of food, etc. Some of the staff are miserable. Meatloaf here is just bread in a meat sauce, many of the hot meals are unpalatable because either too salty or too dry -- embarrassing and unhealthy for a hospital!! Shame! read more

I visited the cafeteria yesterday. I was so dissapointed with the choices. High fat, fried, processed meat, cheese. Canned beans, overcooked vegetables. Sodas, chips. Thick fattening soups. I ended up with a salad full of canned chickpeas and canned kidney beans. I used the balsamic vinegar and oil for dressing, and the egg salad was absolutely disgusting. I thought I was choosing a potatoe salad. It was so heavy on the mayo it was like pudding......Gross. Sorry but for a hospital with Green's rep they should be healthier in what they serve to the public and their employees. It looked horrible. read more

Needs help! Came here for one of my parents surgery so it was going to be a long day. A second time to this cafeteria in three years. I went for a salad and chicken sandwich. The salad bar was not well stocked or attended to.. Yes it was near the end of lunch but no excuse.. As I had to lift a utensil handle laying in the bed of spinach. I elected not to help myself to the bottom of several trays. As I looked for a place to sit among many open tables I found the one the least unclean among most dirty tables that have not been cleared off and wiped by staff. The floor had napkins, forks and food crumbs all around. The only staff I saw was a cashier in the dining area whom saw the mess yet did not bother or care to do anything about it. This is a Hospital! There are no exudes. Plenty of people looking for work and would love to have a job! There should always be someone cleaning, adjusting scattered chairs and organizing the dining area! I have seen the Home Town Buffet on the busiest hour much cleaner than this place! I hope a Scripps upper management will read this and make an effort to improve this area! read more
