What appears to be a fancy liquor store from the outside is actually a hidden speakeasy with an unbeatable ambiance. The revolving door and the immaculate dome inside are fun additions! They have a pretty extensive menu. My party came after dinner so we ordered some of their decadent drinks as dessert. They were all very rich in flavor! I am happy to update my original review based on our most recent experience at Raised by Wolves. I wanted to give them another go since our first experience didn't live up to the hype that surrounds this establishment. My husband and I just finished our dinner at Teleferic Barcelona when I suggested we give Raised by Wolves another try - as we had about an hour before picking up the kids. For a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised that as walk-ups we only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at the bar inside. While we waited, we enjoyed perusing their bottle selections for purchase and I'm happy to say that playing music slightly louder in the waiting/market area helped dull the sounds from the inside bar. It helps create more of a 'moment' when you sit at the fireplace and slowly turn inside. This time we were seated right at the bar, which was perfect for us. Chuck was our bartender and 10/10 on the cocktails he made. This time, I went with their Tiki Room and my husband an off-menu Boulevardier (which I have to say I'm impressed he knew what that was because even I didn't, lol). Both drinks were perfectly crafted and enjoyed by both of us. We only had a moment for just one drink this time, but I have to say our experience was so much better than our first (perhaps a fluke of an evening). The staff were all welcoming and knowledgable, other guests were dressed well, and the ambiance lent itself to the vibe we were looking for. After doing some homework, I made the connection that Raised By Wolves was part of the hospitality group that also owns Lafayette Hotel, The Baby Grand, Ironside, etc...all locations my husband and I absolutely adore. Located in the UTC mall by La Colombe and the Apple Store. Parking is first hour free, $2 per hour after with a $15 daily max. Check in with hostess. Reservations are encouraged but not mandatory as I saw numerous people get in as walk ins before my reservation. Walk-ins are seated at the bar and limited to 1 hour. For reservations they do not seat early even if you check in early. No dress code, saw people with tube tops and flip flops. They sell lots of different types of alcohol in their store. I purchased a $33 bottle of Amaretto that said it had a cookie essence. Bar Entry: The hostess will check ID and then you sit or stand on the platform and it slowly spins you around to the inside. Bathrooms are on the left and exit on the right. Our server was great and listened to what we wanted in a drink and offered options. Tried: Amuse $4 - we were celebrating a birthday so these were offered as birthday shots. Amaretto sour $18 - very good. Smooth and not too strong. French kiss - very strong. Didn't like this one. Wifey and I were going to be in the UTC area so we decided to make reservations at Raised by Wolves. Wifey had been here before but this was my first time. The speakeasy as many now know is situated behind 2 chairs and a fireplace which rotates on a platform to reveal a beautiful bar and very nice ambiance. Our bartender was named Chuck and we both started out with Island Old Fashioneds. We love twists on the original and this was for sure Yummy with a capital Y. Our second cocktail was what Chuck called a King Kong Old Fashioned which had some rum in it and it was just as good if not better than them Island Old Fashioned. Thought this was reasonable considering that we did not have a reservation and it was a Friday night. Very unassuming from the outside, but was thrilled by how it looked inside. Bar is harry-potter esque under a dome shaped ambiance. The drinks weren't anything special in my opinion. As the night went on, I saw that the bar area was pretty empty, so I asked our bartender as well as two other people if we could sit at the bar. Or.. if you happen to be at the mall at 10 PM when everything else is closed, this is the spot to go to. Upon entering, you are greeted by a receptionist, who guides you to sit on one of 2 chairs next to a fireplace. Then, the walk starts moving and you enter the speakeasy! I came on a Monday evening and it was still quite lively for a weekday evening. I decided to order a Banana Cream Flip, and boy, it was delicious! If you love a good speakeasy this is the place to go! From the outside, it looks like a charming little bourbon shop. Nothing too flashy. But once you step inside, the magic begins. The host has you sit in two cozy chairs by a warm, working fireplace. Then you press a button... and the entire wall rotates. Just like that, you're transported into a completely different world. The main focal point is this stunning round bar with a water fountain flowing right in the center. It feels theatrical and intimate all at once. The bartenders are dressed to impress polished, stylish, completely on theme. We were seated at a small table where the little lamps can be adjusted for brightness. I ordered The First Course (a vodka-based drink with goat cheese and balsamic notes). I know it sounds strange. But I love that sweet-and-savory combo, and somehow it worked beautifully. This is a stunningly gorgeous bar. And it is located in a shopping mall. I recommend you make a reservation because it gets very busy. The lobby is open to the public for browsing but bring your wallet. It is loaded with many, many booze bottles and very cool bartender type paraphernalia, all for sale. The bottle prices were not all that bad, actually. The "entrance" to the bar itself is gimmicky but fun. I don't think I am spilling any secrets when I disclose that you sit on the chairs near the roaring (fake) fireplace and the wall swivels and you ride into the bar. A host then takes you to your seats. I always prefer sitting at the bar for the best interaction with the bartenders and, fortunately, that is where we were seated. I suppose a bar with a fun and somewhat silly entrance, along with amazing decor, could get by, at least for a time, on its looks. But the drinks here are no joke and the bartenders are top notch. They taste the drinks before they are served (with a straw, of course). They are knowledgeable about what they are serving. Ask them questions. Tell them what you like. We tried three drinks, one alcoholic, and two non-alcoholic, and they were all very good. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the boozy drink I ordered (and it is not on their online menu) but it was like an elevated Manhattan. It was an absolute delicious knockout. The Enchanted Tiki is basically a non-alcoholic Pina Colada. It was delicious and served its purpose but was not otherwise all that interesting. The non-alcoholic Time of the Season was very nice. It was complex and had great flavors of cardamom, tea, and citrus. My only knock is that there is no food here at all. It is hard to linger, especially with some of the boozier drinks, without some kind of a small snack. Even if they gave every table a cup of nuts, it would be something. I think they limit your stay to 90 minutes so maybe they do not want you to linger. Still, a couple of almonds would be nice. They also offer beer and wine but with cocktails this interesting and made this well, I think ordering the Champagne of Beers would be a huge missed opportunity. If I lived closer, I could see myself coming here more often to sample different drinks off their very interesting menu. This is an excellent bar and well worth visiting. No kids allowed and good luck with parking. You have to park in the mall garage or in the open lot. I believe the first two hours are free so that should get you in and out without paying. read more

I really wanted to like RBW as I made my entire day trip to San Diego around my reservations here. First of all, it's located at UTC --an outdoor mall with paid parking by the hour (your first two hours are free). I had reservations at 4:30pm and checked in early, but seated until 5pm. While waiting, everyone is just crowded in the waiting room as each party is called up to sit on the chairs to turn you into the other side of the bar. The concept, atmosphere, and design of this place is fantastic --we absolutely loved that. Unfortunately, the waiting and drinks took the fun out of it. Once inside, we had a table on the side. I'd recommend a table over bar seats here so you get a cozier vibe while admiring all the details of this bar. I ordered the Tea House Highball ($19) while the husband got the Tiramisu 'Tini ($18). I thought the cocktails were just ok --I finished them just because I can't let alcohol go to waste. Since our parking was paid by the hour, we were in a bit of a rush to get back in time. After getting our drinks, we waited another 10 minutes or so with no one coming to check on us. When the waiter checked in on the table next to us, he turned the different direction so fast that I couldn't even get his attention. It took so long that I ended up walking up to the waiter myself to ask for the check, so we could hurry and leave. I've had this place bookmarked for a long time, and I finally had the chance to try it. Sadly I was not impressed/did not have a good experience. It gets one star for decor and one star for a free, mini birthday drink, but that's it. Decor: It's really pretty inside and gives speakeasy vibes for sure. The rotating fireplace is a nice touch. I made the reservation for a table in advance and they tried to seat us in these two awkwardly placed chairs by the exit with no table. The chairs were uncomfortable and angled strangely so we couldn't face each other (and they were too heavy to move). Also there was no light around so I couldn't read the menu at all. I complained to the hostess twice before we were finally reassigned a different, more comfortable table. (I hate being a Karen, but it was truly an awful spot; I could not allow my friend to experience this on her birthday!) Not off to a good start. Service: Wow it was NOT good. Normally I don't care too much about service as long as it's average, but this was truly below average. I made the reservation for 9 PM and arrived promptly, but even after checking in, we waited 20-30 more minutes to be seated. Once we actually reached our waiter, the service continued to be bad. Our orders were taken but no one checked in on us. I had to wave random staff down to help me out. In addition, I think our waiter forgot about us because I had to get up twice and walk over to their area by the bar to make requests/ask questions. Overall, my friend and I felt neglected and were not happy. Drinks: Average. At this point, I was expecting them to be average because (to be honest) Consortium Holdings is not known for their food/drinks; it is a strictly decor-only experience for the most part. I ordered the Cosmic Dancer (average), and my friend ordered Midnight Standard (also average). For my friend's birthday, mini Continental Breakfast Club drinks were provided for free which was nice of them, and I thought it tasted better than the ones we ordered. I like the concept of a modern speakeasy, but Raised by Wolves doesn't seem to be well-executed. You have to sit on an extremely slowly rotating platform to get in. Not only is it slow to get guests in, the slow rotating platform makes the entrance more like a show, which is the opposite of what you want for a speakeasy (1 star off). After getting inside, the atmosphere is eclectic, dim, and cozy. There are non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. I liked my Golden Afternoon, which tasted like an orange-coconut creamsicle. My friends either did not get their drink of choice because some ingredients were not available or they did not like their drink (1 star off). Our group ended up asking our waiter, "So which drinks *are* available?" and he did not know...he told us to go look at the bottles at the bar (?!). read more

This speakeasy fronts as a liquor store stocked with some very interesting spirts. You can find run of the mill stuff all the way up towards things like Eagle Rare Double Eagle (which was listed at $10k a bottle). Spoiler - A fireplace with chairs serves as the entry into the bar area as it swivels to let you in. Prices for the drinks are elevated as you would expect for the experience (and for California) but well crafted, stout and enjoyable. I would keep this to a two drinks so you aren't the sloppy drunk staggering through the Westfield mall where this bar is found. Since at UTC, you will have to pay for parking but they do offering 2 hour complimentary parking here. You get greeted and checked in by the host, take a seat down by the fireplace, which rotates into the bar itself, which was a unique experience. I went in November and it wad decorated for Christmas holiday season. I love the attention to detail with wolves throughout the bar. I got the Purple Moon Cobbler, which is a ube drink with black sesame and a rice paper cracker for garnish. I enjoyed the flavors and it wasn't overpowered by the alcohol, which I really enjoyed. Overall, San Diego as many speakeasy so as a someone who recently moved to San Diego, this was a good introduction to the speakeasy scene and I wouldn't mind coming back since I can shop around before of after getting drinks here. read more

This place is textbook. Heard a lot of positives about RBW over the years and every friend I've talked to recommended me visiting. I'm glad I finally did. It's located at the Westfield UTC mall and easily accessible through the nearest parking garage. No need for valet. One elevator ride up and it's quite literally in front of you. The irony is not lost on me as the speakeasy is hiding in plain sight. Reservations are easy through OpenTable - I got one booked the night before. You get greeted and checked in by the host, take a seat down by the fireplace, and boom. Into the wolves' den. It's December now so they had the place decked out like Santa's bougie basement. Love the attention to detail in the decor --- little metal wolf knobs on the cabinets, umbrella shaped Tiffany style lamps and amber lighting, and of course that grand view over the centered bar area. Gorgeous. Drinks were phenomenal. We had the famous Banana Cream Flip & the Uno Ojo for cocktails; Golden Afternoon & Time of the Season for mocktails. While the design and concept are definitely impressive, a few issues made the overall experience less enjoyable. We waited about 30 minutes just to get a server, which felt stressful considering there's a 90-minute time limit. Strongly encourage to make a reservation. When we went we had a couple who came in who was upset with their wait time. The male started to very loudly make it known he was incredibly disappointed and most of the on lockers felt the hostess was unreservedly being yelled, and we all felt he handled the situation gracefully and with poise. Raised by Wolves (RBW) is perhaps one of the most unique and coolest bars / speakeasy's that I have ever been to. At first the lobby area just looks like a liquor store with the hostess checking people in. When they are ready to seat you, you take a seat at what looks like a fireplace and then you are transported into a very well curated prohibition era bar area. RBW offers a fairly extensive cocktail menu as well as a very extensive liquor list with some unique offerings from around the world. We didn't try too many cocktails, but of the ones that we did try, the Banana Cream Flip was one of our favorites and a had a very creamy and rich mouthfeel. The drink reminded us of eating banana pudding. Another drink that stood out to us was the Thirst Knows No Season. This was a more refreshing drink that tasted just like Dr. Pepper or a nice cherry cola--very dangerous and perhaps a bit too easy to drink. The service we received from our waiters was excellent as well. All of the servers are attentive and respectful and make this an awesome place to hangout.
