The innovative approach begins with the super cool entrance. You pull a lever and the chairs you're sitting in begin to turn and all of a sudden you're in a gorgeous dome ceiling speakeasy. Then for the cocktails. These folks are innovating out on the bleeding edge of using those ingredients you've never heard of to make a drink that you'll never forget. And to top it all off, we had some of the best, most friendly and informative service I've ever had at a speakeasy. This place rocks.

So this looks like a top shelf liquor store. I walk in and ask if there's a bar, the cashier says there is and tells me to take a seat by the fireplace. I thought it was kinda weird but did so. Then the fireplace spins around into a speakeasy. It's the coolest bar I've ever been to and I immediately sent a video to my buddies of the fireplace spinning around into the bar. The beer selection is limited but the cocktail list is lengthy. So I got a amor picante and English brown ale. Both were pretty tasty, the bartenders or more like mixologists and know what they're doing. That's this critic's review.

Was excited to bring my friend from out of town here. Made a reservation for a Saturday night (would highly recommend reservations as they fill up quick). The drinks were incredible, we tried a couple from the "refreshing" menu & a couple from the "decadent" menu. Prices are what you'd expect of a speakeasy in San Diego. The ambience here cannot be beat. Service was awful unfortunately. Bartender was nice but we could not get his attention & at some points, he was refilling ingredients, etc. & we had to grab someone else to get his attention. Very disappointing for somewhere charging $20/cocktail.

This was beautiful, the vibe, the drinks, the service, enough said, just go and thank me later.

Wifey and I were going to be in the UTC area so we decided to make reservations at Raised by Wolves. Wifey had been here before but this was my first time. The speakeasy as many now know is situated behind 2 chairs and a fireplace which rotates on a platform to reveal a beautiful bar and very nice ambiance. Our bartender was named Chuck and we both started out with Island Old Fashioneds. We love twists on the original and this was for sure Yummy with a capital Y. Our second cocktail was what Chuck called a King Kong Old Fashioned which had some rum in it and it was just as good if not better than them Island Old Fashioned. Both of these drinks compelled me to give Raised By Wolves 5 stars as these cocktails were top notch! We will definitely return!

Amazing drinks and helpful and courteous staff. My favorite place to have a old-fashioned when I'm in the San Diego area..

One of my favorite speakeasies! Order the banana flip!! I'm always impressed with the service and drinks here. The vibe is intimate and seductive. Great for a date night or a quiet place with friends!

Super dope speakeasy tucked in the UTC. Went on a Friday night and waited about 15 to 20 minutes to enter. Thought this was reasonable considering that we did not have a reservation and it was a Friday night. Very unassuming from the outside, but was thrilled by how it looked inside. Bar is harry-potter esque under a dome shaped ambiance. The drinks weren't anything special in my opinion. As the night went on, I saw that the bar area was pretty empty, so I asked our bartender as well as two other people if we could sit at the bar. It took about 20 minutes for us to get a response to see whether or not we could sit there. Overall, the spot is worth it to check out if you're in San Diego.

I love this place! I love the secret entrance. You need to make a reservation so you don't have to wait. They always make perfect drinks. They had an hour wait so I just settled for a tiny bottle of La Fee. I love the decor and I like how dark it is on the inside. I'll be back soon hopefully!

Raised by wolves is such a cool experience! I love the vibe they have going on, lots of cool photo opportunities. The service is okay but drinks are so expensive. Overall a great experience!

If you're looking for a fun speakeasy with creative drinks, then you have just found your spot! Or.. if you happen to be at the mall at 10 PM when everything else is closed, this is the spot to go to. Upon entering, you are greeted by a receptionist, who guides you to sit on one of 2 chairs next to a fireplace. Then, the walk starts moving and you enter the speakeasy! I came on a Monday evening and it was still quite lively for a weekday evening. I decided to order a Banana Cream Flip, and boy, it was delicious! The banana cream is really the star of the drink and its flavor balance out the spirit. The ambiance in here is absolutely phenomenal. Perfect for a date night or a fun night with friends. Next time I am in the area, I'll be sure to be back!

Really cool bar experience!! You sit on a rotating door to enter the bar. The interior gives speakeasy vibes. The drinks were delicious and very unique. Nice place to visit if you're in the area! We came on a Saturday right when they opened at 3pm and they were able to accommodate our party of 6 without a reservation. Super nice!!

If you love a good speakeasy this is the place to go! From the outside, it looks like a charming little bourbon shop. Nothing too flashy. But once you step inside, the magic begins. The host has you sit in two cozy chairs by a warm, working fireplace. Then you press a button... and the entire wall rotates. Just like that, you're transported into a completely different world. The main focal point is this stunning round bar with a water fountain flowing right in the center. It feels theatrical and intimate all at once. The bartenders are dressed to impress polished, stylish, completely on theme. We were seated at a small table where the little lamps can be adjusted for brightness. I ordered The First Course (a vodka-based drink with goat cheese and balsamic notes). I know it sounds strange. But I love that sweet-and-savory combo, and somehow it worked beautifully. It was creative, unexpected, and honestly fantastic. We also ordered the Island Old Fashioned, which was incredibly smooth with just the right hint of tropical warmth and banana flavor. It was the perfect start to celebrating 10 years romantic, unique, and a little adventurous... just like us.

    How's the food?

Is it a 21 and up venue?

Yes! The hostess will check IDs before entering the bar

Can I reserve a party of 8 people?

I would call and ask. The way the seating is set up inside, I'm not sure it would accommodate it comfortably but it could be possible. It's mostly laid out for small parties of 2-4.

Last time I went to this speakeasy was a few years ago, and I am wishing to go back soon. However, the drink that I loved last time isn't on the current menu. May I still order even if its not on the menu?

Hi! Whether the bartenders can make the drink is completely dependent on the ingredients used in that drink. Some menu items require special ingredients, meaning that we would not carry that ingredient if the drink is no longer on the menu. If you…

Passable food for a pretty penny…read more It was surprising to find such a quaint eatery within a department store, and I wouldn't have been able to find it without Emmett's comment. The spirit free drinks were surprisingly expensive, with some being $14. My server, Tony, was helpful and the food came out relatively quickly. However, everyone seemed to disappear toward the end of my meal. *Lilac Fizz: a refreshing combination of lavender, lemon, and soda. This was bright and tart, although the lavender was subtle. A bit more lavender syrup would have made it feel more spring esque. *Skirt Steak Chimichurri: came with a side of broccolini and either fingerling potatoes or fries. Tony recommended the fries, and they came with a side of kalamata aioli. The fries were a tad limp but salted well. The broccolini was a bit underdone, but similarly salty. The most notable flavor came from the kalamata aioli, with pronounced acidity. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. It was juicy and pink throughout. However, it was very bland. The chimichurri tasted like almost nothing, which was a shame given that the skirt steak itself wasn't seasoned much at all. My companion ordered the salad and while the greens were piled high, the roasted chicken was skimped on despite being $21. Overall, the flavors needed to be more concentrated and distinct. Especially for the higher prices, I expected better ingredient quality. I guess it isn't a bad place to eat if you're shopping on the top floor of Nordstrom, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here when there are better options at UTC.

The mac and cheese had a creamy sauce, but we would have loved for the breadcrumb crust to have been more toasted. The jerk chicken had more of a dry rub that was charred for that familiar flavor. It was good; however, it would have been better with some sort of sauce to reinforce the jerk flavors. Their crab bisque had large chunks of lump crab meat and nice tomato and seafood flavors in the broth. Food is okay and pricey (3 stars per yelp's scale); however, there isn't long waits and service is good. It did the job.

From decor, to seating, to the outdoors patio seating, it's great. They have a full bar with seating. They take reservations but, depending of the size of your party, there's automatic gratuity. They have viewing tours here and a full purchase area for all their cocktails. The service we received was 5 stars. We were a party of 15 and they were so tentative. They would bring cups of ice with our canned drinks, we didn't have to wait long after ordering, etc. the staff that assisted us needs to be recognized. All the employees working Friday late afternoon who tend the left corner in the front - kudos! We stuck to the cans because we went for happy hour. During happy hour cans are only $5 and their Ssignature cocktail drinks are only $10 instead of $15. Their Happy Hour appetizer menu is great too. The bulgogi loaded fries are sweet with some heat from the aioli. I do wish the meat were chunks like the original bulgogi instead of slow cooked braised beef that's shredded up. I would also ask for the sauce on the side because it can be a bit much if they put too much. The bbq pork sliders were yummy. The bread was soft, the meat had a subtle sweetness, and the coleslaw added a nice bright freshness to the heaviness of the meat. I only wish there was more slaw on them. The habanero buffalo wings were some of the best wings I've have. They were crispy, the meat was seasoned and not just sauce, and the buffalo sauce was chefs kiss. They are spicy so if you don't do spice definitely get another flavor. If you love visiting breweries or just want to try a new place out you have to come to Cutwater. My husband enjoyed the caramelized glazed scallops with a filet mignon, Yukon mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Another winner! The biggest surprise? The value!
