At the time of ordering they told me that it would be ready in two weeks. I leave for a month-long trip out of the country in two days and that was the sole reason I ordered the glasses so far in advance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After multiple calls to enquire, all they keep giving me is answers like we can't do anything to expedite them, our hands are tied, our insurance dictates the lab, etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have been with the same insurance for 8 years so it's hard for me to see how my insurance suddenly has stopped working efficiently. I went there this week for an optometry appointment with Dr. Mashouf. I was impressed with everything at this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The front desk is very orderly and friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They ran several tests and I felt like I got a thorough exam. Dr Mashouf gave me a prescription for both eyeglasses and contacts, and answered my questions about lens implants for cataracts. He is the best optometrist I've ever been to. read more

To begin with, I didn't have my yearly optical exam from this facility. I wasn't aware of this place when I had my yearly exam. I had decided on a pair of glasses from my O.D''s office, but through no fault of theirs, the purchase didn't occur. In any case, when I didn't get the eyeglasses, I decided to look for Dr. Marvin Weitzman, and he is affiliated with thi Scripps Optometry. Why Dr. Weitzman? Well, Dr. Weitzman has a really good eye. Probably 10 years ago, he chose frames for me that I still have to today. Through that process, I am now able to choose the most attractive looking frames for my face. The choices of eyeglasses here are great. I was able to pick a new pair of attractive frames within 45 minutes. They didn't process my prescription correctly and declined to redo. My eye doctor at Sharp found the mistake and sent a note with me for them. They said even though it was their error it was after 3 months so would not redo. I could not have known myself don't have testing equipment. Great experience! I used to be a patient of their's many years ago but hadn't been back until yesterday, only because of distance and living in different areas of San Diego. My old place was a bit too far so I stopped going. This was before they had renovated so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the larger space and updated appearance. Now that I'm back in the Poway area, it was the most convenient for me and only about 10 minutes from my work. I called on Wednesday and the friendly gal who answered the phone was able to squeeze me in the following day. I arrived a bit early and was swiftly checked in. Be prepared to fill out paperwork due to covid and for temperature scanning. I'm glad they are taking special measures to protect their patients and staff. And of course everyone is wearing masks. The optometrist assistant who did all my prelims was super sweet. I paid the additional cost for my retinal scan using their fancy high-tech instrument to give myself extra reassurance that I didn't damage my eyeball after accidentally poking my it a few weeks back. Em B. in true, clumsy form, LOL. But I digress. Dr. Jay Mashouf is an excellent doctor. He was approachable, thorough, professional and answered all of my questions after the exam, then went over my retinal scan with me in detail. Fortunately my eyes were in pretty good shape which brought me great relief...whew!! I was happy to know that my prescription hadn't changed much over the last 3 years so that was a bonus. Since the co-habitant was on the clock and my ride that day, I couldn't stick around to get new glasses. But I will return when I have time and definitely get a brand new pair of readers. I have been taking my family to this location for years. It seems that is getting harder and harder to set up an appointment. Over the phone, they rarely pick up and after setting up the appointment online, it can take up to 2 biz days to get a confirmation. I even notice that after getting a time slot, it was still available online for at least 20 mins after. For yearly eye exams, that is fine but I would not recommend them to a friend with a serious eye condition that requires more than a pay-and-go office visit. Their staff is not well trained and even messed up insurance claims twice already which cost me unnecessary copay to several family members. read more

Unethical business. My contact lens manufacturer discontinued my specific size which meant I had to get a new prescription for a different brand/manufacturer. It has been less than 4 months since my most recent exam. Rather than being understanding and scheduling an appointment at no cost to me to provide a new prescription, they are charging for a whole new exam. Again, this is due to the contact lens manufacturer no longer making my prescription; it isn't because I'm trying to get out of paying. Under any other circumstance, I would pay. They want to charge up to $200 for an exam when I just paid close to that amount less than 4 months ago. Ridiculous. read more

The doctor-seeing portion was great. The only hiccup I had was with the receptionists when I checked in. Apparently another provider ran an authorization with my insurance previously so they couldn't see my insurance coverage. Because of that, the receptionists just assumed I had seen another provider and said I needed to pay full price. I was frustrated because the receptionists assumed I had to pay full price without confirming with me. After I asked, their responses to my questions were snip-bits of the full picture, leaving me confused and unconvinced. I know everybody's insurance is different and they are not gonna know everybody's situation, but if a confusion occurs, a good receptionist should do their research and explain the whole picture of the patient's insurance rather than just say parts of it that they know only to confirm what they assumed. One of the receptionists' attitude was not great. She didn't seem to know the insurance details and came off as defensive. Asking me to sign forms without explaining what they are, which I thought was unusual. She handed me this form to sign as a consent to service, while they were still confirming how much I needed to pay, which made me uncomfortable. Am I supposed to sign a consent to pay before I knew exactly how much I'll be charged? Didn't think so. Overall it's still a great practice, but some of the front office employees could improve the way they communicate. read more

I have been a patient for over 4 years. I brought my husband in who has not had an eye exam for over ten years. Dr Wan was very thorough in his exam and his explanations. My husband was found to have a retina issue that we would need to work with our medical insurance to address. Dr Wan provided us a copy of his exam to give to our medical doctor so we could get a referral to a specialist. We both were coming in for progressive glasses for reading and distance. My husband wanted them for driving. Mine was for daily use especially in restaurants since I had reading glasses but could not read the special menu at a distance. Not wanting to carry several pairs of glasses, I wanted one I could use for both. The staff assisted the both of us in finding frames that would fit our faces. All around a super visit! Dr Wan didn't listen to my peripheral vision issues and said "Don't worry about it, it your astigmatism". An Incomplete exam was conducted as a Visual Field test would have identified the issue. Most optometrists routinely conduct Visual Field tests. The overall lack of concern is the reason for the rating. I would not recommend them to anyone. After being referred to an ophthalmologist identified the cause of the peripheral vision issue. Pituitary gland tumor has since been removed. read more

I never get a live person and it seems I have to call at least two times to get a call back. Communication and follow up is just terrible for a business. 4.5.17 Walked in and everyone seems busy. I mentioned I was there to check out the frames and was told to ask if I needed anything. Saw about three frames that I liked. About 30 minutes went by and none of the staff asked me if I needed help or how I was doing. One guy noticed I left my water bottle by one of the glasses and asked who bottle is it. Other than that no customer service. I then walked around again and decided on one frame. I asked the lady siting nearby at the computer if there's any other color. She quickly looked at the glasses I was holding and said no that's the only color it came it. She then continued typing away. Okay I really liked that one. I looked up and there is a black one. Well it looked like it. So I checked the tag that has the model number information and of course it was the same frames but in black. Super annoyed that she didn't even checked if they had other colors. So after knowing that customer service is something I might have to beg for, I just walked out. Why bother? Dr. Sun is very professional. Melanie , the office manager is also very professional and helpful. Unfortunately, the staff in the department that actually places the orders for contact lenses is entirely incompetent, and without the help of Melanie the office manager, it's likely that no orders would ever be placed. The gentleman who works there has an attitude and likes to make excuses for not doing the job he is supposed to be doing. In fact, it took five days for him to reach out and confirm an order that I thought was placed and already processing from a week ago. It's too bad that he's bringing down the entire business with his incompetency. In addition to that, while I was in the office, waiting for my appointment with Dr. Sun, I overheard him speaking with a colleague and talking like they were in a break room about many things, none of which had to do with eyeglasses or contact lenses. This review is a long time coming! I had my first experience with Scripps Poway Eyecare in 2018. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Mashouf left a memorable experience because I said I had 40 something year old eyes and after my exam he laughed and agreed with me I said I would be back, but time crept by...cut to February 2022. I found an eye group that was extremely convenient, walking distance from me and took my insurance. I thought maybe I had hit the lottery. I was wrong. I thought back to my experience with Scripps Poway Eyecare and how friendly and accommodating the staff was. That was after ONE VISIT. I took my prescription from the new facility got the most amazing frames, upgraded my lenses because the package deal was so good and am so happy with my glasses I will happily drive from La Mesa to Scripps Poway for my eyecare. The staff and Dr. are wonderful. Don't let your insurance dictate where you go. I will gladly pay more for expert customer service. I wish I would have paid attention to previous negative reviews about this place, but I was interested in going to a doctor that was close to my office. I first emailed them to set up an appointment and I specifically mentioned that I was interested in getting a basic vision exam and only what was covered by my insurance. They replied they would explain what was covered the day of my appointment. The day of my appointment, one of the front desk staff, the blonde woman, gave me all the paperwork I needed to sign. Before signing that statement that says that I agree to pay any fees that aren't covered by my insurance, I asked her if we could go over what was actually covered. This is when I noticed a shift in her attitude. Yes, she explained what I asked, but I could see how annoyed she was that I kept asking questions and that I requested a copy of everything I had signed for my records. I could her see rolling her eyes and speaking with a rude tone of voice. The whole experience felt like the point was to get me to agree to additional services - but aside from this, what was really discouraging was the employee's negative attitude. When I got to my car, I noticed she made a typo in my address as I was going over the prescription info so I went back inside and told the same front desk woman that had helped me about it so she could update her records. I noticed the same annoyed attitude as before. As she updated her records, she was typing loudly in the keyboard as in "here, updated, happy now?" When I asked about an updated copy, she said that it was not necessary for me to get one because the eyeglasses provider had to verify everything with them - the least I was hoping was the offer to get a new print out, something that I consider very basic customer service. When I noticed she clearly did not want to do much to be helpful I thank her and left feeling very frustrated. I had waited a whole month for this appointment. As a current state worker, it's really disappointing for me to see such poor customer service in the "real world" especially during these times. It's been hectic times for us, but we do our best to be patient, compassionate and caring with our customers. If the front desk staff at this place get annoyed with very basic things such as answering questions, going over insurance coverage, and making copies, maybe they shouldn't even be working there in the first place. The front desk staff is a company's first impression. I really wish I would have gone somewhere else, even though I paid a minor copay fee for my vision exam, I wish I would have given my money to a different practice with more caring staff. Edit: The owner, Dr. Wan, reached out to me and apologized for his employee's rude attitude. He mentioned she is new at the company and that perhaps she felt overwhelmed with my questions. I appreciate that he took the time to call me, however, being new at a company is the more reason to try and provide excellent customer service. The front desk person was just rude the whole time - when I asked questions, when I requested copies of signed forms, when I noticed they needed to update my address.
