State Farm Insurance

DO NOT PURCHASE STATE FARM HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE…read more I had State Farm Homeowner's Insurance for over 30 years. Although I paid thousands of dollars of premiums during that time, I had very few claims. The total amount of all of my claims was under $10,000 for 30 years plus! And they rarely paid anything on a claim, there was always a reason they couldn't cover it. For example, I had my electric scooter stolen, and because the scooter went 2 miles per hour over the type they would cover, they wouldn't cover it. I had an $11,000 plumbing job because of root intrusion into the pipes in my yard but they don't cover that. There is a far more extensive list of what they don't cover than what they do. But I found all of this out the hard way. In 2016 I filed a claim on that plumbing disaster which was denied, and a few months later I had all the property in my car stolen out of it and they covered that. I received under $5000 for that. But because I filed two claims within a six month period, whether they covered it or not, without any warning they canceled my homeowner's insurance policy. After 30 years. And the agent that I have had all of that time did not go to bat for me in any way shape or form. Because my house was built in 1935 I am quite sure that they figured at some point I might actually use my insurance with a loss that they might have to cover so just got rid of me the first chance they got. If you don't have homeowner's insurance your mortgage company can call in their loan, or make you purchase their insurance that is exorbitantly expensive. This puts you into a position where in order to find a new insurer, you are at the mercy of what they require you to do in order to 'qualify" for their insurance. For example, my roof does not leak, shows no signs of a propensity to do so, but I have to purchase a $15-20K roof in order to qualify for another homeowner's policy. My house has normal paint fading, but I have to paint my house. You get the picture. They want to reduce every risk they might have to cover before they will cover you. I filed a claim with the California Insurance Commissioner and found that they can't make an insurance company do anything. So - a word to the wise. Don't purchase State Farm Insurance. They have no loyalty or integrity in serving their long term customers, and if you actually file a claim with this company be prepared to lose this insurance regardless of your own loyalty toward them. It's a one way street. I recently changed to AAA Insurance, and from the onset I have received more customer service than in all the years I was with State Farm.
