Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. Albert Einstein Some background info: I hate being hot. Price is no object in my quest to stay cool. Bought a townhouse near the ocean and replaced all the windows with double pane low-E glass which keeps out heat in the summer. When I bought my car it had no tint and I got hot when the sun shined on me through the windows. I put very light Greystone CR 70 grade tint on the front 2 windows and I only got warm when the sun hit me. The back 3 windows had Greystone CR 40 grade tint which was limo dark and sitting back there you could barely feel the sun. The problem with my Civic is the front windshield is huge and sloped so a ton of sunlight hits the dashboard and me so often I got hot from sunlight coming through the windshield. Last year I was driving to Palm Springs alot and was getting really hot even with the AC set to maximum. I did research on the net and found out 3M had released a Crystalline series of window tint which had the highest heat rejection rating I had ever seen. Cut to now: It's summer. I'm getting hot driving around. I call SD Motorsports and they squeeze me in at the last minute for a early morning appointment. 2 hours and $350 later my front windshield is tinted with 3M Crystalline CR 70 grade tint. They did an excellent job on the install. Looking through the windshield is much like looking through the front side windows. The heat rejection is about the same as sitting in the backseat behind the Greystone CR 40 limo grade tint. To summarize: 3M Crystalline tint is expensive and does an excellent job keeping me and my car cool. SD Motorsports provided excellent customer service and did a great job tinting my windshield. read more

Maybe it's just me... but the thought of places that do car mods or sell used cars give me a bad feeling in the back of my head. But WOW was I wrong about this place. I came in to get my newly purchased car's wheels painted black, tail lights tinted, windows tinted, and some decals blacked out (I've never done this before, so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect). For starters, Travis responded very quickly to my initial messages even when I was ensured him that I wasn't 100% sold on doing all of this car. In the end, I decided on doing it and booked my car for drop off the next Monday. The weekend before my appointment...I got a flat tire AND a Check Engine Light warning in my car...not a great weekend I tell you. "Fixed" the tire at a local discount tire co (my car started wobbling around freeway speeds) and thought I'd just deal with the CEL after I dropped my car off at SD Motorsports. So, the next day, I dropped it off. Come Wednesday, I got the call that my car was finished. Excited, I came to SD Motorsports right after work. My car was parked out front and looked AMAZING. The work was impeccably done. I met with Travis, paid the bill, and went out to give my car a final look. He told me that he'd rebalanced the wheels (which he did, no more wobble at freeway speeds), and told me his theory on why the Check Engine Light came on. Although it was after hours now, he decided to look inside the engine bay with me and discovered I had a broken breather hose in my engine! Instead of simply calling me a tow, Travis took an extra 30+ minutes to help me mend my breather hose, and gave me some recommendations on how to get it fixed. Talk about service! I was looking for a high end film to fully wrap my car in that would give a subtle classy shade (64%) but also had best heat and sun protection (about 40% heat reduction). I chose Solar Gard Ultra Performance 60. Other popular shops in SD quoted me between $700-900 for a full wrap ($500-650 for the standard 5 windows in a coupe and another $200-250 for the big extra one). I saved hundreds of dollars at SD Tint. They also carry a wide selection of entry to mid level films as well if your into that sort of thing. The shop in Sorrento Valley is large, clean, and well appointed. It reminded me of a car show room. The job took about 3 hours but I was surrounded by nice furniture, high end magazines, and wifi access to work on my computer while I was waiting. The only thing that was missing was drinks and snacks. Oh well. My Infiniti came out looking elegant & clean. I posted a photo. Check out their business pics. I even had them light shade my corner lamps and rear tail lights. Travis met me at the front and discussed tint options for my Charger. No up sale pushy stuff just the facts. I ended up with tint all around including the windshield and a spoiler installation. (using my wife's yelp account) If you are looking for a place to have your car tinted this is the ONLY place you should go in San Diego. The guys there are professional, meticulous, and only do quality work. I took my car first, then my wife's. They are so detail oriented you can't even see a seam on the tops of the windows. If you have a convertible or a coupe that has frameless windows where the top edges are exposed, they file the windows so that it looks like a factory tint job. They have many options to choose from based on you budget, the look you are going for, and quality in various tints they carry. On my car, e92, I went with the suntek cxp45 which is 40% shade. Looks perfect and blocks 50% solar energy. Let me just say you can literally feel the difference if you use your arm as the thermometer and put one arm in the windshield where there is no tint and one arm in a tinted area. For my wife's CLK, we went up a notch to there 3M cr40 crystalline. Went with the same 40% tint shade but this actually blocks 60% solar energy. I didn't think that 10% would make a difference, but using the same scientific arm thermometer method, there is definitely a slight difference in heat that passes through. Overall 110% satisfied with not just the great job in tinting, but also the customer service and expertise they provide with any questions you may have. The tint I got was WAY overpriced. I paid $400 for the front doors and windshield (SunTek brand). For 3M brand, that would have costed me $550. The next day I went to a company in convoy to tint my back doors and back windshield. They used all 3M tints, which costed me $180, and I got a Lifetime Warranty card. If I had done the front doors and windshield there it would have been above $200. I wouldn't say the service was any bad, but neither was it outstanding. So I tried to schedule an appointment with this company only to find out that they are in the auto business and want to keep banker's hours. Actually worse than bankers because banks now close at 6pm in response to consumers' needs. Not Travis. If you work the old 9-5 you will have to take off work to use this guy. He claims to be open on Saturdays, but the first one I tried to book he had no openings. The second one I had an appointment and he called to cancel it claiming his "employee" had a family thing to go to. Even if this was true (which I highly doubt ) a five star Yelp company does not reschedule someone especially after not getting them in the week before. A five star Yelp company tells their employee to get his ass to work or find another job. Or if it's the truth, the company finds a back up to do the work. Or the company apologizes profusely to the customer, begs their forgiveness, and reschedules them for ANY time that works for the customer. None of these things happened with Travis. His attitude was pretty much "go f@&$ yourself if you don't like it". He didn't even offer an explanation at all until I made it clear I was not moving forward until he explained it to me. Well, Yelp is what happens when you run your business like that. I am so impressed with the Job San Diego Tint did on my new car. I recently bought a Black Jetta GLI. I've never owned a black car before and didn't realize how bad it looks without tinted windows. I chose to use SD Tint because of my brother's (my personal auto expert) recommendation. I actually drove from San Francisco to San Diego on a road trip and figured it would be a great chance to visit SD Tint. When I arrived and hour late because I got lost. I was greeted warmly by Andrew, who I believe might be the owner. With no pretense and no attitude. I gave Andrew a simple explanation of what I wanted, "something between James Bond and the 'Transporter."' Andrew walked me through his thoughts on what kind of tint to use and how dark on my car. I figured that I should trust his expertise. He gave me a time estimate for pick up and they were actually done early. I just want everyone to know just how good my windows and my car look. Andrew did tell me afterward that I should probably go wash my car because my windows were looking way too hot for my dirty car (7 hours on I-5). I'm really pleased with the wonderful customer service and professionalism. Also their work is terrific. I would consider myself an expert in my own line of work but I'm no expert when it comes to window tinting, I do however recognize quality and little details and I'm very impressed with San Diego Tint. They agreed to match the tint level with my other window but very clearly the the tint seems to be of a different level. I did a whole lot of research prior to getting tints done on my tC. I had narrowed it down to four choices, but after calling each shop, I was sold when I called SD Tint. I can't remember exactly who answered the phone (though I think it was Andrew); all I know is that he was extremely professional and constructive in helping me make the right choice. He thoroughly gave me options as to the variety of tints they carry, as well as the exact price I would be paying. Not once did I feel pressured to choose them. I actually ended up oversleeping the day of my appointment, showed up about an hour and a half late (I called to give them a heads up). The guys were so chill about it. They told me they were a little behind schedule, not to worry, and to just bring my car in when I was ready. Mike was the one who helped me pick the shade of my tints. I told him that I didn't want anything too dark because my car's black, told him I was thinking of going 20-30%, but wasn't sure if I should keep the same shade for the front and back windows. He was not only very patient with me (and believe me, I take like YEARS to decide), but also showed me pictures of various tint shades and combinations on cars that they've worked on. I found this extremely helpful in my decision making process. It took them about an hour and a half for the whole thing, and I know they didn't start on my car right away, so I guess it was more like an hour. Anyway, amazingg job. There was a small bubble in the rear window, but I believe that cleared up after a few days. If you're looking to get your tints done, I highly recommend you come here. Very friendly staff and very reasonable prices.. Did I also mention that there's a lifetime warrantee?? One more note- they have solarguard and ceramic tints if you're interested in that. I scheduled a few days in advance and was told that the earliest appointment available on Saturday was at 1 pm but that if I dropped off the car earlier, sometimes customers that make earlier appointments cancel or don't show up at all. I dropped off my car at 9:30 am and was shown various tint shades to choose from. I got a call around noon notifying me that the job was done. I had called a few times throughout the week, and Travis was very understanding and accommodating. Apparently, the business has been around for nearly 30 years! Brought the car in to have tint done! This is the only place I would take my vehicles to. Travis and the guys did an amazing job! I was very impressed by the work done on the car. Very detailed oriented. Like the idea for the frame less windows and the edges had to be filed down. The tint looks better than the factory puts on it! Travis explained to me the different types of grades and shades. It depends what you want to do with the vehicle and your purpose. Man, times have changed over the years with tint. It looks very good and compliments the car well. I was able to do a walkin on friday and it took two hours. It is recommended that you make an appointment however. I went from a SUV that came tinted in the back sections to a four dour car that was all black and it got frickin hot last summer. So I went here looking for advice. Came in once for a consultation (shades, protection, warranties, etc.) and then brought my Audi back for the work to be done about a week later. No complaints at all, these guys are great. Car looks like they said, was finished when they said it would be and looks great. Mental note that you're not supposed to lower your windows for a few days after getting them tinted, so if you need to do that for some reason, plan accordingly. read more

I can't believe how great this shop is. I took my car to a tuner spot and a dealer and both checking on the computer and reading the diog they can't tell you why your car is running shity and 600 bucks later at the dealer my car is still running like crap and they wanted more money to try another great guess. SDMotorsport i show up and his computer gets on and in less than a minute it gets troubleshot right away with accurate causes for the problem. 10 minutes later my car is running like a champ. Maybe I got there at the right time but man what service and it shows with the 5 star action they keep getting. They just don't work on lambos and ferraris I'm a VW markV guy. This is now my spot and it should be yours to. Next week I'm going back for a down pipe and taking my girls VW engine light wont turn off problem there to. read more

These guys were so close to my house and the reviews at the La Mesa place were great so I chose them. When I got there, I was engaged in a friendly conversation about what tint I preferred and what I knew about tint. I deferred some opinions to the guy there about what kind of tin I should get and got immediate and honest feedback. We got to see multiple examples of tint on various cars in the shop (clean and spacious by the way). Every step of the process was walked through to me and they promised the job to be done by the end of the day (I dropped my car off in the late afternoon). I'm really happy with the job that was done on my windows and my car looks great.
