Terrible experience. It's a shame because when I went earlier today for my own passport application, it was a very nice and seamless experience. Because of that positive experience, I went home and convinced my mom to return the same day to submit her application. Unfortunately, our second visit was completely different. We were helped by a young woman whose name I believe started with an "M." There were two employees working at the time with similar names, so to clarify, she was the one wearing a black jacket during our visit. From the start, the interaction felt very uncomfortable. She seemed irritated and dismissive, and every question we asked was met with noticeable attitude and impatience. It felt as though our presence and questions were an inconvenience. Applying for a passport can already be stressful, and customer service makes a big difference in that experience. We simply expected to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. I hope this feedback helps ensure future customers have a more positive interaction. read more

Absolutely worst. Avoid. So slow. Rude. Find another place. Arrived and was told it would be a while. No way to quote. Could not use my cell phone even on silent for texting in building. All on a power trip. Avoid at all costs. Not sure why they think they offer a service. read more

From the online application to the walk in process was so streamlined and convenient. Once I was on my way, I checked in online and added myself to the wait list. It was only 15 mins and right when I arrived they saw me. I was renewing my son's passports who are 16ys old, so they were able to sign for themselves and the guy said since they were 16 it was easier. Both parents and the children have to be present. I had to pay with a check to get renewals but, the 37 processing fee was paid on-site with my debit card. I used cvs for the passport fphoto and thy barely were approved. They use a template nd they said they needed to be more zoomed in but since it was just cm's off they took them. I would drive to this location even if not in the area just because everyone was so effecient and pleasant. I was dreading the old process. I highly recommend SDSU passport office. You can check online for times. I did look around other locations like the USPS and those are extremely limited. Here they even take walk ins with being on the list or having an appointment. What worked wonderfully just a year ago with competent staff...turned into a DMV-like experience. When you click the waitlist in the morning, a spot is assigned to you. The link that supposedly shows the wait time cannot be opened from on iPhone. We were on the highway already from North County when I received the text message to head to the office within the next 20 minutes, which is impossible if you are arriving from NorthCounty. As I was parking, I received a text that we were marked as no shows. Upon arrival I was informed that my spot was taken by someone else, even though she had just finished her procedure rules to the group. If you don't live close to this office, don't ruin your day with this mess unless you don't mind sitting there when it opens. read more

I'm sure this office is better for students and those who live on campus vs the public. You have to get in "the virtual queue" first thing at 7am then it says "your number" and the "average wait time" (mine said 4 hours). 2 and a half hours later I get a text saying I have 20 minutes to show up for my appointment. I went on a Saturday checked on waiting list at 7:03 A.M. I am on the 16th in line. The office is open at 8 A.M. I came in at 8:30 A.M and finished by 10:30 A.M. Overall, is closer to my house so I decided to go this location. Usually, I went to U.C.S.D location their service always faster lesser than 20 mins on passport renewal. Anyways, my daughter is under 16 years old so I brought my wife and all paperwork's (old passport) included my daughter birthday certificate. I gave to the birth certificate to the guy during the application to reviewed and he gave me back stated not require. I took back & went home about an hour later the office called said " Hello, this is Marissa Sanchez from San Diego State University passport office calling you in regards of Cassidy application the process for a passport. We are missing a photocopy of the birth certificate." I am very disappointed and unprofessional work. The employees need to be training again. I am wasting my time back and forward for the paperwork of the unprofessional worker at S.D.S.U. Next time I rather drive to U.C.S.D location better. read more

When you join the waitlist on their website it gives you a very accurate time. They also send you a. Text when it's almost your turn so you don't spend all day waiting there you actually have about 20 min to head to their location once they send you a text saying it's almost your turn. The office is mostly ran by ladies and they are a charm ! I've came here twice and each time it's fast efficient, hassle free. They offer photocopies for $1 and passport pictures for $17 and a service charge of $35 i believe and it's worth every penny. read more

Came here because it is one of very limited places that accept walk-in passport services. After trying for months to help my SO with getting a passport and not being able to secure an appointment time or being told the earliest is in March or May 2023... we woke up early to be here at 7am to learn that the earliest arrival was at 430am! Mind you, we made line and was #40 - and was done by noon. The office doesn't open until 8am, but the system works by (1) make line (2) put your name on the kiosk with a student employee (3) go get some breakfast or coffee or wait there (4) get a text and make your way to the front door (5) wait for a student employee to call your name. It couldn't have been easier, the process was easy and we were told that day they would take the first 80 people, and it could be 80 families but 80 was their limit for that day. Some people come in around 11am and were turned away because their limit had been reached already, so definitely get their early. Parking instructions are on the parking structure and was super simple and cheaper than I was expecting. We paid under $7 for 2 hours, as we ended up getting breakfast and coming back. Would definitely recommend, staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable! I saw them taking pictures in the morning too. Also, don't forget to bring your check or money order for state fees. The office accepts credit card for their $35 admin fee. Also, if you make a mistake on the application, they have extras available. They do have bench style seating available in the front. read more

I came here a few months ago. If you're making a passport for the first time... you will have to join their online waitlist that opens around 7AM. I recommend having the site loaded and refresh to sign up. Once you have a waitlist spot online you'll have to show up here when you're closer to being served. It's quick & easy (please fill out the paperwork ahead of time). Bring payment (money order/ checks are OK), & bring a valid government issued ID. They require a birth certificate. The birth certificate is mailed back to your home address along with the passport. These are mailed separately in case one is lost. Make sure you're on time, documents filled out, & payment is ready. read more

New passport application for my infant son. Signed up on the waitlist on Friday afternoon and was provided a wait time of about 2 hours. Link to check spot in line was accurate and received text message that it was almost my turn around the 45 minute wait time mark, then another text letting us know to arrive within the next 20 minutes. Entire process was super smooth- staff was friendly and helpful. We had all our documentation ready, necessary copies made beforehand. They were able to take passport pictures for us too for $17. I knew about the SDSU Passport office since I'm a former SDSU student and planned to come on a Saturday. I arrived at 8:30am to put my name on the waitlist and was helped at around 12pm. There is a digital waitlist so they will text you when It is your turn. I actually left the area and came back when I had under an hour left of waiting time. Parking: Closest lot is PS12, download the Pay by Phone app and it is about $3/hr. The actual process was fast as they just look over your application to ensure everything is complete and accurate. Come with everything ready! I have seen people have to leave and return because they forgot something. I believe the only accept DS-11 forms for a new passport (not renewal forms). They have DS-11 forms there you can fill out as you wait or you can fill it out online and print. Go on the website to find the list of items to bring including: the DS-11 form, proof of citizenship (I brought my old expired passport), proof of ID (like drivers license), payment (check to US Department of State, card for SDSU fee). They can take and print your passport photo there for an additional fee, which is helpful! Overall, the waiting time on the weekend is super long, but the digital waitlist is effective so I didn't have to stay there the whole 4 hours. read more

We got here 30 minutes before close and I was worried about even being able to get in, especially with all of the reviews saying the process takes 5 or more hours. We got in with absolutely no problems and no wait. The service was friendly and we were in and out in 15 minutes without needing an appointment. Trying to travel but need a passport? Come here my friends. Come here on a weekday at 7AM and you won't regret it and get your passport in a timely manner. My best friend is getting married and decided we needed to all go to Cabo and I haven't gotten my passport renewed since.... FOREVER. I was scrambling to figure out where to go to get my passport and was informed by a co-worker that SDSU has a passport office. Came on a weekend - NO, run and go back home and come back on a weekday. It's too wild on the weekends, the line is all the way out the street. No appt is needed and they process passports fairly fast here. I had a great experience and everything was seamless. Just make sure you have everything completed prior to coming and you'll have a faster processing time. Print out the need passport renewal document and complete it, have your passport photo ready (if not you could take it here too), bring your ID, BC/expired passport and you'll be good to go. I expedited my passport and the anticipated date they told me it would arrive, was correct! read more

As long as you have all of your stuff prepared and sign up at 7 a.m. on the dot, it'll be a super fast process. Of course, waits can be long, but it's quick once you're inside. I signed up at 7 and ended up first in the queue, so I was already inside just a moment after 9. I would recommend going on a Wednesday if you have the time. read more

SDSU passport office is so easy if you don't have time to make an appointment somewhere else. We signed up online in the morning and they were ready for us within 5 minutes of arriving! It took 15-20 minutes to review the application, get my son's passport picture, sign the paperwork and pay. They did a great job! We came here for my daughters' and husband's passports 1.5 years ago and service was great then too, but even better today with the online queue. Big improvement! read more

They are super nice here! The wait time is usually around 45-75 minutes. They usually use a QR code to have you sign into the waiting line. They do list on the papers to have a money order ready for passport payment. They make it very simple and easy to stop by the office and get a passport application done. Would HIGHLY recommend this place!! read more

DO NOT recommend this passport office. No one in this building is kind or customer service oriented. I observed a manager degrading one of her employees. The agent that was helping us was super unkind when I was looking for information on my phone. (I get it rules are rules, doesn't mean you can't be kind!) They made me really unhappy. Good passport office. You have to come in 2 or 3 hours earlier and there's usually a long line with no parking if you don't have a permit. I came when there was a little line stretching out along the sidewalk and had to wait 3 hours. The passport procedure was very quick and the employee that served us was professional and straightforward. Another employee came over to check up on us and we talked about how we had the same name. The fact that there's an option for walk-in is a plus, considering I have a very hectic schedule as a new construction worker and this is the only post office that doesn't run strictly on appointments. read more

They can do children and even infant photos, and it's walking distance from the turtle and koi pond if you have a long wait. We went two summers ago. We had a two hour wait, which we expected (at the time there was a clipboard you can sign, first come first served, put out before it was opened, which we made sure to sign and then return at opening). Bring cash and a checkbook as backup, the CC machine went down while we were there and everyone had to scramble to find a substitute form of payment. I don't expect any different from a passport office I guess, we have gone back this year for an adult one and it was more efficient and faster, and they put out tables and umbrellas thankfully. read more

Very well-organized setup. Get there early, as the line started at 6:30am on a Friday morning. Just keep your place in line behind the red tape on the sidewalk by the palm tree in front of their office until they open at 9am on weekdays or 8am on Saturday. Once they open, give your name and phone number to the person at the table by the front door to get your text notifications to know where you are on the waitlist. The college students that run through the passport applications are very knowledgeable. If you have your documentation ready before you get there, you will be in and out in 10 minutes once your number comes up. Very impressed with this organization. read more

This place is tucked away by the Viiejas Area. If it was for Yelp someone may miss it. They only take online check ins. You can check in online at SDSU Passport Office. Don't wait til you get there to scan the QR code. If you do than you most likely will not be seen that day. This place is small, very small. Also they start check in each day at 7 AM online. I was number 2 and I checked in online at 7 AM. Here's what I did not know, my first time going there. After checking in it has a couple of options, 1 I'm on the way. 2 I'm here, this one is most important!!!! Parking is easy if you know where to go. There is a sign that says Passports Office use Parking area 12. While driving up the hill to the office it on the right side of the sidewalk right before the office. If you drive up the hill and pass it turn around and go back the same way. The parking structure will now be on your left. There is no charge for parking. Also it opens at 9AM and there's no reason to be there right after check in online. Because as stated they don't open until 9AM. They did open early for passports photos. Idk if there was a charge for that, probably because nothing is free. Ok so now I'm parked and go there and wait. See I thought they would start immediately because online gave a minute countdown which lead me to believe once it hit zero I would be scene. That is not the case. When they finally opened I was the very first one in!!!! Now before I started the process I went online and prefilled out my forms to save time!!! And I had MO's no checks for the application fees.They don't take cash, just checks or MO's. If you use MO's make sure you know the exact amount before going. The website travel.state.gov gave me a total. When I got there I was $25 dollars short. I wanted my expedited for a trip to Peru. They let me bring back the shortage same day with in a hour. I did not have to wait, walked in and the nice young lady that helped me the first round walked up checked, took, and processed my documents!!! There was a additional $35 processing fee, for that you can debit or credit at the desk, see the money man......Total out the doors for me renewing my passport was $209.53. But, yes there is one, it's only $130 for a regular renewal if the passport is just expired and you can wait sometime to get it back. They have a new system where you join the online waitlist on their website BEFORE their office opens. I tried on Friday but could not get through but luckily I was able to for Saturday. YOU HAVE TO BE FAST IT FILLED UP IN LITERALLY ONE MINUTE!!! But I had my laptop and phone and I was READY. It's that serious. Copy and paste your phone number so you don't mess that up because you'll get a confirmation text message. My wait time was about two hours after I got a spot online so I just chilled at home before heading to their office. The new system is so much better since I can just sign in at home without having to check in at the passport office. I tried to do a walk-in before but that was just literally impossible. IF YOU GET A SPOT THATS GREAT BUT IF YOU DONT THEN THERES NO POINT IN GOING!! I asked the staff and they said they would not be able to do anything for people if they are not on the list already. Save yourself the trip and try again the next day. All the instructions are on their website. DONT FORGET CHECK OR MONEY ORDER FOR YOUR PASSPORT FEES!!! I heard a lot of people were missing that. The actual process once I got called into the office was quick for me since I had all my documents ready. The staff took my picture first before checking all my stuff, told me what I needed to fix, and what to write on the check. They were very kind and helpful especially being a government service :') I saw another family get frustrated with the staff but y'all need to remember customer service is NEVER your enemy!!!! At the end of the day, they can only work within their regulations and with what YOU bring to them. Before leaving, I paid the facility fee and pictures and then I was out the door in less than 15 minutes! PARKING IS AVAILABLE IN P11 OR P12 BTW. I only had to pay like $3 for one hour. read more

Extremely rude and disrespectful. Came with my fiancée and there wasn't anyone outside but one other family. Was told we would be next after the family. Fiancée went in and out within 10 mins because we actually had our applications filled, money orders ready, photos, and documentation. Was prepared to wait but since no one here, we thought it was gonna be a breeze. But no, they just didn't care about me and we waited almost 3 hours as other people who checked in hours ago get called in because of a "30 minute" grace period that they didn't even enforce. People's names were called more than 5 times and they still take them over me sitting there. Everyone gets checked on and I'm purposely ignored. read more

I tried for a few days, but I was able to get on their waitlist on Friday. After signing-in, I received a text with my place in line and wait time, which was a few hours. I went to the office when it was close to my turn and chilled outside. When it was my turn I was helped quickly and was done within 20 minutes. STAY AWAY!!!! Avoid this place at all costs. Unless you do not care at which point you will receive your passport in the next year. Dishonest and scammers. I asked about expediting my passport application. I paid the additional fee to expedite which is fine. Then an employee told me I could pay an ADDITIONAL fee to this office so they can overnight my application to the department of state. Fine...until I received an email 15 DAYS LATER from the department of state saying they JUST received my application. When I sent an email to this office asking what happened, they claimed the fee was for them to OVERNIGHT IT TO THE POST OFFICE!! Are you fucking kidding me? I could have taken it myself to the post office! Because of this shitty place and their shady ways I had to cancel my flights and hotels. No apology, no help. Just an email blowing me off. This place should be shut down. I don't know who's running it but stay away from this place. They need to be reported. read more

Update: This office managed to lose my birth certificate somehow. When I was finishing up the process of getting my passport, I was instructed that I must leave my birth certificate there with them, seeing as it had to be "sent in for verification". After speaking with friends and family, I learned this is not typical procedure and they were shocked that I wasn't able to take my birth certificate back with me. After over 6 months without my certificate, I got notified that it somehow ended up in New Orleans, LA. The office there notified me and sent it back to me. Do NOT trust anything these people say and don't leave your personal documents with them!! A year later and I'm still shocked that such a place is still running. read more
