Of course there was quite a variety of home goods too including candles, books, etc. I saw some great artwork that was Seattle-themed and a lot of cool large paperclips, stamps, and whatnot to bring back to my office mates as small gifts. You will find something for you and then some here. Service was great as I asked the person working for any other nearby shops. Many visitors and shoppers tend to have an emotional connection to Kobo, formerly known as Higo. I…read moream one of those people who calls it Higo, before I will remember it is in fact Kobo now. Higo is the original shop owned and run by the Murakami family. This is one of the few businesses that survived the Executive Order 9066 written in 1942 with thanks to the non-Japanese friends of the family who owned businesses in the same building. Today, Kobo represents a new generation of local artists, selling gift items, crafts, tees, books, art, jewelry, and much more at varying level of prices. I highly recommend Kobo when shopping for unique gifts. When I recently visited, they had a glass artwork on display, art gallery style. It was also the yearly Nihonmachi celebration, and they had a table outside with an artist painting one of three designs on classic Japanese windchimes. I was thrilled to buy one of these adorable windchimes commonly featured in anime including Studio Ghibli movies. KOBO Capitol Hill is tucked away at one end of Broadway on a cute little corner that's easy to miss if you're not looking. They have an AMAZING collection of local and international art, books, and other small finds that make it feel like a new experience every time you visit. They also have virtual art shows featuring new artists every month, offering them platform to show off new work in a time where it might not otherwise happen. Due to Covid, they've taken a lot of precautions for their customers and staff, which I really appreciate. Private shopping sessions can be booked online, and curbside pick up was a really smooth experience!

A lot of the stores have closed and it seems like most people who do come here are coming to eat at Din Tai Fung or HaiDiLao but if you're in this mall make sure to stop by the 3rd floor and check it out! The front desk person was wearing headphones and didn't respond when I greeted him, through he finally noticed me and took them off to say good morning. I was curious about the Fiestaware colors they carried (if they had pre-86 Rose) since they appeared to carry retired items as well but didn't especially want to linger in the space. Overall, they could do with a strong air purifier and cutting down their shelved stock so it's more manageable to view.

Andrea, the owner and crafter, was so sweet and patient with all of our questions on jewelry materials. The beauty of having the creator in the shop is that Andrea was able and willing to make modified versions of jewelry, such as switching a thicker earring hoop for a thinner one for my tiny ear holes. There are so many unique and beautiful jewelry pieces available here that my friends and I were swept away. From colorful, delicate earrings that featured the flowing fins of a koi fish to tiny strawberry and banana earrings and necklaces, browsing the store feels like a treasure hunt. Many of the pieces are gold-filled without nickel (you can check with Andrea), or otherwise using high quality sterling silver (check for the 925 symbol on the metal). Although the store just opened one week ago, the interior is beautifully decorated with cozy looking heart sweaters, gorgeous gold and silver jewelry, and a giant red heart. With some great value finds (average price ranging from $35-50) and a cozy feel, you can tell Andrea makes her jewelry with love. Stoll & Heart is a great place to treat yourself or your special one while escaping the Pike Place crowd.
