I have heard that sea products is a great store. This was my first in person visit. The staff was very nice and answered my questions. They have a lovely variety of fresh fish and shellfish plus a ton of prepared soups and foods. I bought a pound of local shrimp on this visit. I made them for dinner and was extremely pleased. This old school fish shop has been in the area forever, nothing fancy on the outside or inside, but lots of great fresh seafood and a decent selection of frozen to go items as well. We scored some amazing atlantic jumbo prawn/shrimp, along with some local fresh NC Golden Tile filets and a beautiful filet of local Flounder. The yound man helping us allowed me time to look, and was prompt, professional and courteous. Also seasoned butters, mango salsa, and some organic local pasta, with other sundries. This weekend I made my first trip to Sea Products Seafood Market, and I am sad and disappointed at how long I have been missing out! Definitely a hidden gem of Winston Salem. I have known about Sea Products for a long time but for some reason never think to head over there when I need seafood. It is a bit tucked away off the beaten path, but is actually super easy to get to. There is a tiny gravel driveway just past "The Tap" on Reynolda (across from West End Poke and Joymongers). If you pull in, you cannot miss Sea Products on the back side of the building, and then you can pull right through and you will be right back on Reynolda! I was thoroughly impressed with the selection inside the store. While they may not have EVERYTHING you need, you could easily go there for a one stop shop and put together an awesome meal! Fresh fish, both whole and precleaned, a good assortment of prepared foods like various salads, crab cakes, sides, sauces, etc, anything you may need to cook your fish, and even wine! A super nice touch is they throw in a free lemon with each purchase! 9 times out of 10 when cooking seafood I would need a lemon anyway so that is an awesome little perk. I got some shrimp and some sea trout fillets and was very impressed with both! I will definitely be back to try some other items! The workers were friendly and helpful and they seem to be doing a great job with social distancing currently! The Andrew Zimmerman Baltimore crab cake recipe is fantastic. The only problem is the crabmeat sold in grocery stores is from China or Indonesia. No thank you!!!! Enter the magic of Google and the hidden jewel, Sea Products. Their website has the fresh catch of the day and the jumbo lump crab is from NORTH CAROLINA! Can I get a big hell yeah and an Amen?! I called ahead just to make sure they had it. The fellow I spoke with was very nice. He told me they had 5 LBs that hadn't been reserved. I put my name on a pound and headed their way. The price per pound for jumbo lump was about $47.00 but it is absolutely worth every penny. When you figure 8 cakes from the pound, it is actually very inexpensive, especially compared to restaurants. Google maps will take you past it, but turn around. It's actually behind the "you have arrived" location. This is why I call it a hidden jewel. It is in a very nice, affluent section of downtown WS. We felt very safe and a little "under dressed" in our Nissan Murano. Beware that when you open the door to go inside, there are immediately steps to go down. They are doing excellent COVID measures. Masks are required and the have 6' stickers and arrows on the floor. What I noticed first, after the steps, was the very fresh clean smell. No ammonia smell, which is a big No No in seafood. Their displays are impressive and fresh. They were very nice and even put in a free lemon. When we got home and opened the container, the smell was salty and sweet - which is the goal! Don't skip the recommended step of picking thru your crab meat to remove missed shell. I found about 10 pieces of shell/cartilage. It is much better to find it in the raw, rather than when you are trying to eat. We will definitely go back to this shop. read more

My dad loves fresh seafood, and he was very disappointed in our local supermarkets. I found this place on line, and we made the 30+ mile drive. It was well worth it. There was no "fishy" odor, and it was very clean. My dad said it's the best seafood he's found since buying it straight off the fishing boat at Holden Beach. He bought a variety of fish and shellfish. Everything is delicious. We didn't try any of the prepared foods, but they look great. We will definitely go back. I have been looking for a seafood market in W-S because I've not been super pleased with the quality of the fish from the supermarkets. This place is a bit hidden behind The Tap bar in the West End. It's a small shop, but that's fine. They have a lot of prepared and frozen foods on display, as well as spice rubs, marinades, and other accompaniments. Which is all good, But I was looking for fresh fish. The problem is that they have very little of their fresh seafood on display. One small case that was mostly empty at 4PM on a weekday. None of the shellfish was on display - when I ordered mussels the guy went in the back to get them and brought them out already packaged. The seafood I got ended up being fresh and good quality, but I don't like not being able to see it. If your product is fresh, why hide it in the back? They seemed to be trying to focus more on prepared foods and on catering trays, when I was just looking for a place to buy some fish. Prices were reasonable, and what I got was good, so I'll probably give them another shot. read more

Time around the busy holidays always seems to be in short supply. Special meals, parties, and get-togethers usually require extra endeavors in the kitchen. This year, we decided to let someone else take care of the cooking. Hidden behind The Tap in West End, Sea Products has both prepared foods and fresh fish. Depending on the season, you could find NC black grouper, Chilean sea bass, Spanish mackerel, monkfish, NC vermilion snapper, and more. They also sell seasonings and sauces you can use when fixing the fresh seafood at home. For Christmas Eve, Jerry and I special ordered a beautifully molded Salmon Mousse to take with us to the in-laws. Seasoned with a hint of spice and onion, we served this luxurious spread with crackers and thinly sliced bread from the bakery. It made a wonderful showpiece for the buffet table. After the overindulgent Christmas dinners and parties, we wanted something simple, savory and comforting for supper on Friday. Several loaves of Camino Bakery bread and an assortment of Sea Products soups made a hearty, straightforward meal. Jerry picked out the Shrimp-Okra Bisque. Loaded with tender shrimp and okra, this soup has inspired me to double my okra production in the garden next year. It was delicious. Mom's favorite was the She Crab Soup. Crabmeat, cream, and sherry combined to make this classic a year round must-have. Dad enjoyed a bowl of Corn & Crab Chowder. Sweet corn, shredded crab, bacon, and green onion fashioned the nourishing chowder. Everyone sampled the Manhattan Clam Chowder (clams, diced potatoes, celery, onion, and tomato). My Ragout of Clams, Sausage and Mushrooms was amazing. The ragout could also be served over rice or cheese grits. Spicy Italian sausage, clams, onions, garlic, chucks of tomato, and mushrooms made this an instant favorite of mine. Sunday is our family's usual Take-Out & Movie Night. Jerry and I had picked up several frozen prepared items from Sea Products to pop in the oven that evening. Mom's favorite was the Maryland Crab Cakes with lump crab meat. The Baked Scallops (chopped scallops, herbs, butter, garlic, and white wine) were served on a shell. Dad liked the sweetness of the backfin crabmeat in the Crab Imperial (also served on a shell). The Seafood Lasagna had layers of shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, spinach, and a scrumptious tomato cream sauce. A seasoning kept us guessing until we read the ingredient list; it was anise. Jerry and I love mushrooms and enjoyed the Krab Casserole with shredded krab meat, diced mushrooms and cheese. The prepared foods were a huge time saver, and I want to try the Thai Shrimp Cakes when we stop in Sea Products next time. For New Year's Eve, we looked to Sea Products for help once more. We preordered cooked shrimp. They hand peel and devein it individually. The cocktail sauce was lemony with a bit of horseradish and chili sauce (but not too much!). Mom and Dad were quite partial to the shrimp ring we constructed. Filled with deviled crab and topped with Parmesan cheese, the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were sizable. I couldn't get enough of the Shrimp Pasta Salad. Full of sliced black olives, diced sweet red peppers, green onions, shrimp, and peas, this salad was dressed with a pesto mayonnaise. We appreciate the knowledgeable advice and friendly service at Sea Products. (A personal thank you to Pedro and owner, George Streblow, who assisted us during our visits!) I like the seafood market. I've been here several times when all I need is fish and I don't feel like going in a grocery store. It's hidden behind the tap room, but is super convenient. Small boutique focused on highest quality nc and va fish. In light of the value, the prices are quite reasonable. Service is always excellent. I frequently buy tuna when it is available to eat raw in sushi. They always have an interesting selection of fresh fish. Today I bought some nc soft shelled crabs that looked great. Although I didn't ask, they whisked them in the back and cleaned them for me when I bought them. They were truly delicious. I feel lucky to have a place like this in Winston. Douchebag owner didn't know the local roads to give directions to his place, but insisted instead that I wasn't at the corner to two particular streets when I was sitting there, staring at the corner street signs (talking to him on the cell phone). When I finally figured it out myself and arrived, he was a complete asshole - seemed much more important to him to prove he knew oh so much more about everything than his potential customer.
