We were in the area for a soccer tournament and I needed to find something that could handle a large group of people, 17 newly teenage girls and their parents. I was able to set something up about a week in advance as that's all the time I had to know what our game schedules were, they had a simple to use online form and I got a call within minutes of submitting it and they easily accommodated us. They had an area that we could all take over without being in the way, staff worked through us like an assembly line and food came out in the order it was ordered with no problems. Everyone was very happy with what they got, and the menu selection was large enough that no one had any complaints about choices, and every one left happy. read more

It had been awhile since I ate here, so I stopped into get my favorite meal here - a Patty Melt and a side of the very best Onion Rings in the area, throw in a Stella and I'm good to go! The melt was excellent as usual, and the onion rings were no different. They offer some nice lunch options, including 1/2 sandwich with soup. And they have a nice selection of sandwiches, daily specials, and more. This definitely is a neighborhood spot, not exactly Cheers, but regulars abound, and if you are not one, any engagement from the staff is limited. I have no problem with that, I did not come to have lunch with the staff, simply to have lunch. Some may feel my last comment was a bit pissy, but I'll stay with it. Went for lunch on Sunday, excited to try the updated menu. Quickly learned that Sunday is brunch, which was not clear on the website. I tried the burger with bacon, hashbrowns, onions, egg, cheese, and mayo (excess of toppings). The burger was good, the onions very strong. Hubby had the turkey sandwich, would suggest avocado slices in place of the spread, which made the bread mushy. The big failure was the hash browns. From the texture, I would say they come in a big frozen bag from a wholesaler. They also lacked flavor. Fried seasoned potatoes would have been a much nicer addition to the meal. We may give it one more try for a true lunch or dinner experience. read more

The service and food are always consistently great at Davie Tavern! They also have a great bar selection and while you are trying decide what to eat, ensure that you don't skip over the pork special, salmon, or steaks! The inside is fairly small and always clean. Since remodel, the seating has changed the partition between the bar and the main dining room is gone. They have instituted long tables where the booth used to be. If you want a private conversation in these areas, it is impossible. The noise level is much higher than it used to be and many of the favorites are gone from the menu if you want to combine this with a much higher prices and the more limited menu then you will probably have a more satisfactory dinner than we did I didn't think the food was as good either the only thing that remains stellar is the wait staff , Beth is tops and always will be. read more

I am a long time patron of Davie Tavern and enjoyed every meal there with previous owner, staff, chef. It now has a new owner, new look, and some new items on the menu. However I'm not sure that this is an upgrade. They took beloved items off the menu, keeping some of the items. Of the best items they removed were the Shrimp and Grits, Fish and Chips, and the Calamari app and sautéed vegetables. I don't know who thought garlic green beans were a good idea, but they are awful. The two meals I've had there have been good actually. But to have only sweet potato fries and no longer have regular fries, its really weird to me. Original Davie used to have many more options, this menu is extremely limited. They say its because they are getting used to new equipment, but the owner has 4 other restaurants. There are no specials, no flatbread of the day, and I'm here to say this menu is going to get old really fast. On top of that they now do not take reservations. They have one big open space that could of added 3 tables, they took tables out of the bar area, so while you're waiting to be seated, because you can't make reservations, you have to stand and drink and wait. They added this huge table that has smoke coming out of the middle, that is now a community table. Nice thought I suppose, but I like to dine with friends, not strangers. It's Davie county for crying out loud, not downtown Winston. Was glad to see some of the original staff, they did a great job at the original restaurant. Beth did a bang up job at the original....she knew the patrons, constantly taking care of business, customers and knew her customers. We are thankful she is still there, along with wait staff. The original Davie Tavern was a meeting place for a huge cross section of people, people that know each other in the community. They all gather in the same place constantly to have a good meal and a good time. They don't want to wait an hour to dine from a menu that doesn't offer some sort of change, like specials. The community was heart broken when Davie T closed, then somewhat anticipatory about it reopening as Davie T, so far it's disappointing. Not being able to make a reservation is a real no go for me. The menu I'll give it chance to hopefully change, but I will never order the garlic green beans. I hope the staff we know and love will stay....and look forward to getting to know the newbies. And why in the world did they take Sweet Josie Brown off the menu I'll never know... it's in a can for crying out loud, how hard is it to keep that on hand. read more

Update 1/10/23 Mae and I stoped in for a quick dinner. We hadn't been here in a while and it really has become a reliable eatery in this part of the county. We were seated quickly as always. The restaurant was pretty full. It was cozy warm and the hum of table conversations was quite calming. Our server was friendly and efficient. Mae got the Buffalo chicken wrap with fries and I got the Tavern Burger with garlic mashed potatoes. Mae told me to order those because she wanted them but wanted fries also. TEENAGE DAUGHTERS! Our food came out quickly and was made according to our specs. The food was very good. Mae ate her whole wrap which is unusual because she usually only eats half at other places. Her fries were, well, fries with seasoning and were tasty. My burger was excellent. Medium patty with smoked gouda, garlic Mayo, and bacon jam. The garlic mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious. I can see why my daughter wanted me to order them. They were homemade, skin on. Great garlic flavor. But not overwhelming. You need to order these. Once again, another great visit to Davie. Tavern. We bookmarked Davie Tavern some time ago and today we were in the area and decided to check it out for a late lunch. It is located in the same shopping center as Food Lion in Advance. There is an outdoor patio area under the front covered entrance that would be nice when the weather is warmer. We stepped inside and were immediately greeted and taken to one of the available tables. There is a small bar area to the left with bar only seating and then in the main dining area there are probably 20-25 tables and booths. Our server, Catherine, stopped, took our drink orders and provided us with menus. We began looking over the menu and were impressed with the overall selections and the prices seemed reasonable as well. We asked Catherine about the appetizers and she highly recommended the onion rings. We absolutely love a good, hand breaded onion ring so it was an easy sell. We proceeded to ask a few questions about the menu and she told us her favorite sandwich is the Carolina Hot Honey Fried Chicken. My wife hadn't even seen that on the menu and the combination of hand breaded chicken and honey sounded delicious! I chose the Patty Melt and was happy to pay the $1.00 upcharge for Macaroni and Cheese as a side. Our onion rings came out in a timely manner and WOW, they looked absolutely delicious! The amount of onion rings was impressive too, they do not skimp on the quantity. Hot, crunchy and simply delicious! Catherine brought our entrees a short time later and we were really impressed. Our expectations on the mac and cheese were exceeded when a large cast iron bowl arrived on the plate with the patty melt. It looked creamy and delicious and it tasted as good as it looked. I also really enjoyed the patty melt too. My wife's chicken sandwich also looked great and because it was served open faced she opted to simply eat the chicken with honey but it is served with slaw, pickle and a nicely toasted bun as well. Overall, we were really impressed. We will absolutely be back. Catherine told us they serve brunch on Sundays from 10am-3pm as well. read more

Nice little place! We got there a little after 5:00. It filled up quickly! Our waitress was very good. She made sure drinks were always full. (Not up to snuff completely on the beers but still good). We decided to try the onion rings. They were huge! If you didn't know, you would think they were donuts! Could have been slightly less fried to make them even better. I got the shrimp and grits. Amazing! The sauce has a bit of kick from the Texas Pete in it. The grits are from Guilford Mill and super creamy. I like when small businesses support each other and keep things local. There is usually a sheet listing the daily specials besides the standard menu. Be sure to ask for this. I'm adding them to my favorite wings in Winston area list. I went with the bourbon teriyaki sauce. I picked up all the good teriyaki flavors with some sweet smooth bourbon. My first impressions of Davie Tavern was that it was a lot smaller than I had imagined. It's located in a strip mall next to a Food Lion and a tobacco shop. It was about 6:30 on a Monday but we didn't have to wait at all. We were seated in booth in the back of the restaurant and our waitress, Christina, was over rather quickly. We started with water, I got an Allagash White on draft and my date got a martini. It was clear the drinks say at the bar for a few minutes because the head on my beer had already dissipated, but it was still cold. The martini was strong but I enjoyed it. We got the tavern wings, half bourbon teriyaki and half honey sriracha. They both had great flavor, I just wish the honey sriracha had more spice to it. I was very surprised with the size of the wings though, they were actually pretty meaty and were cooked perfectly. I got the fried tavern seafood dish with flounder, shrimp, scallops, crab cake, fries, hush puppies and cole slaw. Cole slaw was just alright. The fries had a great crisp to them but lacked seasoning. The hush puppies were awesome, super crunchy and fairly large. The shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked and had great flavor. The flounder was kind of pathetic though. The skin was left on when it was fried and barely had any meat to it. I had to peel off the skin the best I could and what I was left with for the flesh of the fish was almost nothing. The crab cake was pretty good, a little too mushy for me but had good flavors going on. We finished with a strawberry short cake/cheese cake dish. This was the absolute highlight of our experience at Davie tavern. The top of it was like a strawberry jam, with a strawberry mousse underneath it, followed by a layer of cake and finished with cheesecake at the bottom with a thin crust. It was nothing like what I had imagined it would be and far exceeded my expectations. I would absolutely recommend trying this dessert if it's available. Overall I would return as the menu had several entrees that I had trouble picking between. Definitely think some things have room for improvement but I enjoyed my experience. read more

Pretty unassuming place in a strip mall in Bermuda Run. This was on my radar to try though because of the great reviews, and those reviews are justified. There's really not a bad bite to be had here! Proof not to judge a book by its cover. We got the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and bacon jam, which tasted just as good as pictured! Perfection! I myself got the burger and fries because that's just how I roll. It was perfectly cooked, medium rare, beautiful pink on the inside, fresh patty and excellently seasoned. Straight greasy comfort food and an extra order of onion rings that also tasted very fresh, not frozen stuff. Makes a difference when a place throws real food at you. By the way, make sure to ask for Brian if he's serving. He's as nice a guy as you could meet, and he'll make sure you're having a good experience! read more

Stopped in for dinner on our way home from the western NC mountains. My wife found it on Google. It was very busy for a Saturday night, and we didn't know we needed a reservation. Sat at the bar. The bartender, Beth served us. Apparently she was filling in for the usual person. Beth was absolutely a rock star... she was balancing take out orders, drinks for most of the patrons and bar service.... How she kept everything straight I have no idea. My wife had the beef stew special, which she really enjoyed. I had a burger, a bit over cooked(med well vs medium I asked for), but it was still pretty good. Another employee, Allie, was also pushing out take out orders and helping w/ drinks, etc. she also was busting her butt to keep things moving. Food came out quickly considering the dining room and outside patio were both full. Menu had lots of variety as well. We will definitely come back when we are in the area... Wished it was closer to where we live(Clayton) because it would definitely be our "go to" choice. And considering how busy they were, clearly it is for others as many seemed to know the staff by name. Definitely stop in if you haven't been here before. It's worth it! read more

I didn't expect much of this location tucked away in a strip mall but we had a really great experience here! We would definitely go back. They have a pretty large and diverse menu and the food is little more upscale than you'd expect it to be. The fried green tomato appetizer was a win, one of the best versions I have had locally. We also got the onion rings and while the portion was a bit small for the price they were pretty exceptional. They offer a nice selection of kids meals for a good price. The burger my husband had was tremendous and delicious. I got the petite filet and it was cooked perfectly and I really liked it a lot. I would say definitely give this spot a chance! read more

I am a huge fan of Davie Tavern. I go here often when my son is in his occupational therapy session down the street. The staff are always super nice and attentive. I love their daily specials they have on the board outside. We've been wanting to try this place for some time and we finally stopped by this week. The food was very good. I had the fish and chips and they were delicious. Crispy deep fried cod, well done! My wife had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly except they should have arrived a little hotter than they were, but still delicious. We'll go back again. Very good. One of my favorite restaurants in the TRIAD based on my one and only visit. The stuffed pork chop was huge and extremely tasty. Seasoned to perfection. Had plenty to take home. Only to be topped by the crab dip. Add in some nicely made Cosmopolitans by a super personalable bar tender and the experience was just superb. My partner had wanted a booth table. One was not available when we entered but just as we were seated at a table our waitress noticed a booth opening up so she accommodated us. We are so grateful. Service was prompt. The specials were clearly described. The waitress offered her truthful opinion and steered us away from a pricier option. I think highly of her overall performance. The atmosphere is simple but nice. When packed with people as it was that night, the vibe is electric. Obviously others think highly of this place too. Looking forward to going back. read more

It's my first time to come here, but the service and food were perfect for me. We went for the more tavern approach to food. And for that it was great. The build your own "burger" is by far one of the most customizable options. My wife actually got a chicken wrap on a tomato basil tortilla with pepper jack, grilled onions, avocado, and...bacon jam. With pub chips that were hot and crispy. My own burger was their 10oz bacon cheeseburger. Standard...but huge. Plus ordering it medium rare actually came out perfect. Greasy, messy... And delicious! And the fries were nice. The waitress recommended normal over their sweet potato for what it's worth. To top it all off the waitress was very fast. It actually caught me by surprise how quickly she got our drinks fr the bar. I'm used to waiting a few minutes at most places for them to mosey back over. She was gone like 30 seconds! read more

The service is always EXCELLENT! Beth is super. I can't count how many times I've eaten here and it's my go-to place to take friends. All the guys at the bar were a great crowd especially Clent. had a good cold beer and great conversations. It was a little early and i ordered a philly and dirty slaw for dinner this evening. But when i opened everything up the dirty rice looked some kind of noodle thingy. So, I warmed up up the sandwich and "dirty rice". Turned out the dirty rice was some kind of slaw that did not work out when heated up. it was a kinda hot sloppy goopy mess by then. not like a cole slaw. Anyway- I love this place. I left a nice tip. Interesting place. Service was excellent and food was good. A bit confused with the theme of the place in comparison with the name and location. Through my time going to taverns it is either a very limited menu or a core of apps, fresh pub salads, great burgers and sandwiches. This place has a lot going on. From burgers to seafood, to pasta and shrimp and grits to Cajun / creole to name a few. I would definitely eat there again but would like to see them limit the menu to core tavern items and focus on upping the quality of those. read more
