I've never been the biggest fan of seafood boils, they are often rather bland and are almost always messy! If you have enough butter and sauces you can add some flavor, but a lot of the blandness remains, for me anyway. I've had seafood boils on the beach at Cape Cod, Hyman's Seafood in Charleston, and Willie's Boil House in the French Quarter, among others. And I was blown away by none. In a discussion with a friend, he disagreed with my position and suggested I give some local spots a try, and be very generous with all types of accompanying sauces, especially spicy ones, and don't skip the butter! So I am planning to try a few spots heading into the new year, starting with this spot. I ordered the weekend special, shrimp, lobster tail, and small crab cluster. This comes with potatoes and corn. This was not at all a bad meal, the shrimp were very tasty. The lobster tail was a bit chewy though the flavor was nice. The crab cluster produced some nice bits of meat, but this was a very small cluster. The veggies were just ok, on the dull side. While not all bad, this was very expensive and I would not come close to ordering this again - in fact I don't see a return visit, period! read more

I will never eat at Red Crab in Winston Salem, North Carolina ever again. How dare you have a 11-year-old in tears on their birthday. We had vacation bible school didn't get out till after 8pm and went straight from there to Red Crab. They close at 10pm. We arrived around 8:45pm and I sent my son in to go get a table. He goes in and comes back and stated the girl said she can't seat a party 30 mins before they close. So, I check the time I said it's not even 9 at this time its about 8:50pm so we are still good. So, I went in and waited to talk to someone. Mind you, they left us standing there for a good ten mins and the manager that I know now walked around us multiple times. The girl that told him she could not seat us never came out. So finally, the kids said mom I think they are waiting till after 9pm to help us in like surely not trying to be nice. Then 9:05 the manager comes and ask "Have anyone helped y'all" I looked around like no obviously you see we been standing her and y'all been walking around us, but I said no we are still waiting. Then I said we need a table to be seated but my son said the girl said y'all can't seat anyone 30 mins before yall close. You don't close till 10pm. She said we can't sit yall an hour before we close I said but she told him 30 minutes before and was waiting before 9pm to even have someone help me. Then here comes the next lie we'll ma'am we can't seat a party more than 6 after 830. I said ma'am what?? Yall have told me 3 different things. It's my son's birthday, as you can see the pin and the sash, we drove 30 mins just so he can eat there for his birthday. The other two people who were coming were not even there and I said OKAY well can you just seat us it's only 5 of us so he can eat here for his birthday. Her smart uncaring response. "No, we not going to do that she already told you no" first off nobody told me anything you talked to my son but the fact that you are being smart to a customer that has been here multiple times. Then you clearly see this is a child that is celebrating his birthday, the fact that y'all refused to allow him to eat there and had the nerve to say I don't have to come back do you think I would. The fact that really made me mad was this was child that was very upset and to ruin a birthday because you want to leave early. Not to mention they sat another family about 2 minutes before we got in there and still refused to seat us. No apology, no offer to order out no nothing! Came here for a birthday and got food poisoning. Do not recommend. And they do not tell you when the up-charge items/add to the bill. Server was nice but disappeared for long periods of time. Overall not a good experience and 3 days of throwing up confirmed it. read more

I have been to several locations within the red crab brand, as well as other similar places. This one is decent. I have been here twice. It's spacious, clean, and the service is wonderful. But I definitely think they should connect with their sister location in Durham- because they are doing it much better over there. The sauces and most of the food here is delicious! Unfortunately both times I have been- the crab quality was not so great. It's not bad, but for the prices and experience I just want really good crab ya know? Especially with the name of the place being red crab. The crab here both times was thin, small, and dingy. With that grey tinge to it. Not thick and juicy or super fresh like it should be. If the crab was better- this place would get five stars! The sausage is delicious, the corn is perfect, the shrimp cooked beautifully. I love the garlic sauce. Husband loves the Cajun. The drinks were just ok, lots of options but I couldn't finish mine. Too syrupy and not a good mixture. I definitely missed the lychee drinks and drink tower options from the other locations. Wild experience. Called 5 times prior to showing up with no answer, and when we show up it isn't even busy. We arrived at 8:45 and they close at 10:00. We asked to be sat as a party of 16, and they told us they don't sit large parties close to when they stop seating (9:00). I asked if we could split up at different tables and they said no. They were extremely rude and I definitely wouldn't come back to this restaurant. They just didn't want to do their jobs. read more

Went to eat for Sunday supper and there was a bug in my wife's sweet tea. We kindly asked to speak with a manager which proceeded to say "I bet it came from the ice chest, it's happened before". You pick your seafood, or combo, the sauce you want, and heat level. The food comes in a plastic bag. They give you a bucket and plastic bibs. They have fried seafood on the menu, po boy sandwiches, fried chicken strips and catfish. The fried seafood selection is pretty limited. What I like - Food is decent - Crawfish on the menu, which you rarely find around here - Love the 4 difference sauce selections and the heat index options - Full bar with nice cocktail menu (think beach themed cocktails) - Respectable draft beer selection - Great service Additional Thoughts - It is a little pricey - Place seems to be geared to the sports bar crowd. First time trying this establishment; wasn't sure what to expect. I just knew I didn't want fried fish nor salmon. I was looking for seafood options in Winston-Salem but was disappointed by the options listed by Yelp. Apparently the building use to host a HOOTERS establishment which would explain the spacious dining area and multiple TVs affixed around the inside. When entering around 6:30, the energy level was low key;flat. There were just a few tables occupied with patrons. I ordered the boom boom shrimp as appetizer, thinking it would be like the "bang bang shrimp" at Bonefish. The shrimp was butterflied & tempura fried. The dipping sauce has a definite kick. The prices are quite high - check the menu prices before you go (see photos). It would seem a ticket price of between $40-$50 per person. My meal was shared between 2 ppl with water to drink. Christian was our server and he was good. Attentive and personable; thanks Christian. The only thing is that instead of filling water at table, he would take our cups away to fill. I personally don't feel that should ever be the process. Again i didn't know what to expect (should have read previous reviews). I will try again now that I know. The food was delicious! I didn't even use the gloves provided, there were plenty of napkins! I got the "Thursday" special (even though it is Saturday!) and added the lobster tail. The bag broils are definitely their thing. The fried fish was not as tasty (someone else at my table got this). I will definitely be back. Eaten here twice in two weeks! It's fantastic! May seem pricey but when you consider seafood prices and the amount of food you are getting it's not bad at all. The daily specials can be selected on any day so that's a plus The Cajun medium option for steamed seafood is a perfect middle ground option for BUTTLOADS of flavor with a minor kick in spice. We've only tried various steamed seafood specials because you just can't find food like that anywhere. And it's steamed perfectly. It had tons of flavor. NO soggy and soft crab or mushy shrimp here! Comes with potatoes and a corn cob. Family likes to add sausage to the bag too. It's a messy meal, but if you're from the gulf like my family..: it's the only way to eat! So glad I've found it. Okay, I don't really know where to start but let me give you some background info...We decided to go to Red Crab so we could celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. It was a Wednesday night and the place was not crowded at all, however, we did call and made reservations just in case because we were a party of 9. We were seated promptly and the staff was kind, we got our drinks right away and waited for a little until we decided on food. We went with combo #2 which was more than enough food, well seasoned and the temperature was really good. I had the fried shrimp basket and was satisfied as well but the star of the night was the crab fries and honestly, I think its an overlooked item on their menu. The fries were perfectly fried and the crab meat and creamy sauce on top paired perfectly. The staff was really friendly accommodating us and we were able to cut the cake and sing happy birthday. Lemme say, we both agreed that the was the best fried calamari we'd ever had. We would've eaten several baskets if we didn't order our food at the same time. It didn't even need the marinara with it. From the moment my family and I walked in I knew this was going to a terrible experience. We will not be visiting again. How we ended up here in the first place, was a car ride to find a place for a drink and appetizer. Someone suggested "how about the place that opened where Hooters was at." What a bust. We walked in on a Sunday night and it was almost as if they didn't want the business. Confusing signs about not serving certain alcohol until certain times, foul language written on the wall as you enter, and some of the rudest employees I've encountered in a while. The decor is like a run down business. Almost like a restaurant on the brink of closure. The walls are covered in sharpie graffiti which adds to the trash aspect. During our visit they were rolling a trash bin around the restaurant which was classy seeing as we were eating. The food was your typical frozen over priced mess. We will not be visiting again. My family was disappointed and honestly for the presentation of styrofoam plates and trash decor the prices were way high. The service was also lackluster and left much to be desired. read more
