Overall was a satisfactory experience. I purchased some takeout food for dinner. I have the platter which was a combination of salmon, teriyaki chicken, curry, and some cooked vegetables the work behind the counter and limited English skills, and I found it a little challenging. They weren't really able to explain the food in detail even ordering process, but they kind I have pansit with some shrimp and cabbage. Our first time here and, as we wandered slowly down every aisle, we found loads of fun snacks, a big assortment of noodle choices, fresh produce, fish, and (our favorite) the bakery. They also have a good selection of dishware. There's even a restaurant with BBQ meat and lumpia and halo halo for sale. Service was friendly and there were plenty of baskets and carts available. Fiiiiiinally made it to Seafood City a couple of months ago and I must say, I liked what I saw! Seafood City is a popular Filipino grocery store chain specializing in fresh seafood and Asian food products. I've been to Seafood City before in other states and while this location is smaller, they offer the same products as their other locations like fresh produce, meats, pantry staples, and fresh seafood. They have the widest variety of international and Filipino grocery items which is AMAZING to finally have all in one place. I had fun going through all the aisles finding familiar and new snacks and products to try out. We picked up some snacks to try, some frozen foods, drinks, and a handful of baked goods from the bakery. We got some pandesal which seemed like it was from earlier that day (we were there pretty late at night). It was good, but probably even better fresh from the oven. I also got some ube flavored treats and enjoyed those over the next few days. All in all, I'm happy that we now have a Seafood City. I love having more options and seeing fun, new products that haven't been easily available in other stores. Often times we'd either have to substitute ingredients or not make dishes at all because we couldn't find the right ingredients, but saw a lot of those products here. The downside is their opening has definitely affected local, small businesses and I already know of one that had to close its doors which is a bummer :( read more

New Asian shopping options are on Maui in the previous Lowe's Hardware location at the Maui Marketplace. Seafood City has great fresh food selections from cut vegetables to fresh meats and seafood. Great varieties of sundry items like specialty rice. Need just a few items for Sinagang or Pancit, they have it. Looking for a Vietnamese Noodle Soup spice mix? They have a convenient affordable package. Even novel toppings like ground Chicharron. Best of all, small amounts of fish eggs (masago, tobiko) for sushi, it's there. In the freezer section they have an assortment of proteins crab, shrimp and everyone's favorite whole quail, as well as desserts, sauces, and snacks. Besides the slightly disorganized bakery entrance with fresh Sweet Rolls, the most popular feature is the grill; Lots of BBQ meat skewers on rice, pancit and Fried Chicken....and lots of it. read more

Had the day off so finally checked it out. I mostly went to price their items. Love their fish section. Will probably go back tomorrow to buy uhu, akule and menpachi. It was not busy this afternoon and no line for their hot food. We ate beforehand so we werent hungry and only grabbed lumpia. Cashier was super nice and there was a lot of parking. Great seafood selection we got blue crab and giant tiger shrimp (bit of a chore to clean and devein but worth it) along with some Asian specialities. Lots of fish. Lots of mollusks. Lots of crustaceans. Prices vary - for example a mini watermelon was so expensive the cashier herself suggested I not buy it. But other foodstuffs like live or fresh not frozen seafood was relatively reasonable. They will clean your seafood for you. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Seafood City was founded in 1989 in California.  Today, they're found in six US states and Canada. EXPERIENCE: Located in the Maui Marketplace strip mall, they've taken over part of what once was Maui's first Lowes. I was going to give them at least a month before ringing in my inaugural visit, but I found some time five days later. Being so new, the parking lot was crowded at 7:30pm on a Tuesday night.  Inside, the line for hot foods was fairly long, though the grocery registers were empty as most were browsing, me included. The food options were a lot of deep fried items and many of them unrecognizable to me. A dine-in area is available. The bakery sold a plethora of breads, pastries and cakes. Produce offerings were of the everyday variety and included a lot of Asian/Filipino specialties.  Prices were average compared to Foodland & Safeway. The deli was quite impressive with their selections of meat, poultry and seafood including pokē.  The only questionable area is the fish that are on ice.  They're oddly displayed out in the open for all to touch, unprotected from humans and insects. I was pleased with the snack aisles as they not only sold Filipino goodies but Japanese ones as well.  Calbee-brand chips and Meijia-brand chocolate almonds to name a few.  Who knew there was such a thing as Filipino instant ramen? No alcohol is sold here.  They did have a few zero-alcohol beers in the refrigerator, but what's the point of that? I did purchase a few bags of yummy Boy Bawang-brand cornnick (a smaller, softer Corn Nut) and a box of Meijia-brand chocolate covered almonds that we discovered on a recent trip to Japan ($3.99 here compared to $10 on Amazon!) Cashier service was fast & friendly. Paper shopping bags cost 15-cents if I'm not mistaken. OVERALL: Great food and grocery addition to the area. read more

Went here probably about a month after the grand opening so the crowds had died down more. We went in first for the Grill City hot foods. Expect to wait in line 20+ minutes. They are always cooking plenty of grilled foods that you can see the process. After going past the grill, you can pick your food items. The staff are very friendly and helpful with the ordering process. Prices are a little on the steep side but the quality is good. They are fresh and flavorful. My daughter loved the pork barbecue and I enjoyed the chicken barbecue. Nice flavor with a little sauce brushed on. Neither too fatty. The palabok noodles with shrimp are flavorful but not overpowering. We tried a Halo Halo which was good but the best is still Tante's at Maalaea. Store is large not huge but the selection is overwhelming. They have a lot of personal hygiene products up front (Shampoos, soaps, deodorants) next to the bakery which has tons of Spanish roll and pandesal. Produce area is well tended to by staff. So many selections of things like sausages, tocino, chips, instant noodles, cookies, etc. Fish area in the back has a lot of selection of fish on ice that you can see up close and personal (you take the fish yourself instead of ask someone to get it for you). They had an interesting home goods aisle with things like dishware, cookware, cleaning items, etc. I was surprised by the number of tourists in the store. I think it's quickly becoming labeled as a tourist attraction. They don't offer free paper shopping bags...15 cents apiece. Reusable shopping bags are $3 each and very large and durable. The general consensus is that the prices are steep but for me, they're cheaper than most of the small Filipino stores. It helped me see how much those stores were price gouging. We appreciated the itemized receipts and posted prices on every item. Small stores will need to improve their professionalism in this regard to keep up (fair prices, labeled prices, clear receipts). Seafood City is a well run business. We will be back probably to order some fish. Today we mostly got the hot foods and dry goods. Please return the carts and don't leave them next to cars. While I was shopping, I went to the restroom, leaving my cart with unpaid items and my reuseable shopping bags outside the restroom door. When I came out less than five minutes later, I found my cart was empty. The employee standing there said he didn't know what had happened. However, after I asked a manager to look at the security camera, he admitted he had thrown everything in the trash, including my bags! Even if he thought I had left the store, shouldn't he have restocked the items (all unperishable) and taken my stuff to the lost and found? Was he restocking groceries using the trash can? Yuck! There is a new Filipino/Asian market in Kahului so we had to try it. It's big, clean, and we stocked. We picked up so many snacks because we didn't need groceries. The food bar looked amazing. The market has a great selection of Asian items, some you may not be able to find anywhere else on Maui. BUT THE CASHIERS ARE TERRIBLE. If the items have no price tag (such as produce items), they will charge it as UNKNOWN items at higher price without checking their manual book. I go to this market often, and every single time, they charge me more for those produce than the listed price on the shelves. PAY ATTENTION because it does add up. Today, they charged me $5.99 for a bag of bean sprouts when the listed price is $3.59. I'm just fed up with this nonsense. Look up the item if you don't know. read more

Super helpful staff! Food looked on par as far as price, for Maui. NO deals that I can see (I am a deal-hunter!). There is a live crabs section, where you can battle a crustacean to jump into your dinner bag. They are not giving in easily, let me tell you! Bought ono for a decent price: $9.99/lb. This is the first time I ever been to a Seafood City. Kind of reminded me of a Filipino H-mart. They had a lot of asian products. They also had lot of fresh fish - lots of different species. I went their food court and was overwhelmed on what to get. I decided on the Karekare cause someone told me thats what they like to eat when they eat filipino food. I liked it. We went to Seafood City last night! Boy was it packed with plenty of people! As we entered thru the store we noticed a long line to the left of the store and then we noticed it was for the grilled meats or something along that line. We went to the right and that was the bakery section which they were fully stocked with ube desserts. Then as we were walking they had plenty of produce. We also notice that this Seafood City was a little bit pricey on majority of everything. They had a huge assortment of meats and so many different kinds of seafood. I thought and I was hoping that they sold frozen abalone but I was sad when they didn't have any. We were looking for some yummy snacks but didn't find any appealing to our eyes. Seafood City is an Asian Mart. I liked that Grill City is inside hope they'll add chowking soon too. They have medium soundtrack when you walk in to the store. It's a bit busy since everything is already in the store. So this review is about grill city inside seafood city. I have stood in this 30 min line 2x since they opened because I wanted to try out some of the grilled foods and seafood here. So first of all the service is excellent. The lady's behind the counter is fast and efficient. The decor is ok I mean it's got a food court dining hall kinda vibe. Now let's get to the food. I have been here twice since they opened and both times they were out of the squid and I heard several other people asking for it so kinda frustrating that they don't cook enough. I also had the pancit behon sadly I was not impressed the portions are small and the flavor is lacking. I have also tried the grilled chicken and pork skewers. I would have to say my favorite was the spicy pork skewers. I have also ordered the pork adobo. It was good not great and definitely not the best I have had. Next up is the lechon. That I have to say was pretty good, the Shanghai lumpia is good also. My favorite items were the cascaron, halo halo. Over all I feel like the food is overpriced the portions are small and the flavors are nothing to make me keep going back. I will definitely give them a try down the road but for now I can't give grill city more than 3 stars and most of that is because of the customer service. read more

I have been away for almost a year. I did know that seafood city was going to open soon. I ventured down to do some shopping at other places and thought I would stop in. seafood City has locations in San Diego, that are not highly regarded, so I thought why not, since I always shop in Ranch 99 and H Mart and Zion. On entry, look to the right and you have the bakery. While they have some interesting items, prices are stupid high. &18 for an egg custard pie? Mostly white bread and stuff that lacks any nutrient. Look to the right and you'll see 40 people lined up for over priced fried food, I did not try. The reason I shop Korean markets is the produce, the produce, the produce. Some things are stupidly expensive, hey it Hawai'i. One lime .75 cents. On the other hand Chinese chives were on sale for $1.50 a pound, whereas I've been buying a 2 oz. Pack if chives for $3.00. Quite frankly, you have to pick and choose. Fresh Meats looked good. Fresh fish looked good, but unguarded, out by itself and not much if it. But we all know Hawaii is basically "fished out" and some fish was not local, eg: freeze and defrost. A good small selection of Poke, did not try. As usual, checkout was "Island Style" 15 minutes with three cashiers to check out one bunch of herbs. They were sweet and helpful, but it was watching Laurel & Hardy. Ah well. By the way. The grocery store was empty. All the action was the food grill. Cashiers had nothing to do. read more

This might age me but this place gives me a Ah Fooks kind of vibe. The one stop shopping place for anything Asian/ Filipino. If you miss something from the Philippines may it be snacks, produce, health care, cosmetics, bakery items, seafood, meats & grilled foods. This is the place to get it at a fairly reasonable price. The only complaint I have is the service is sub par. There are a few workers that seem to hired because of nepotism & have a poor understanding of English. My review had be dropped a star because of the poor customer service. If I ask you how much it costs, your answer shouldn't be "I don't know ask the cashier". I'm hoping the management can bring the lacking employees up to standard. Only time will tell if this will be permanent fixture in the community or go the way of Max's Restaurant. read more

I know this sounds racist, but living on Maui since 1979 a transplant from the Mainland, I've run into a LOT of prejudiced over the years. With that being said, I was hesitant to shop in Seafood City because of it's predominate Filipino staff and products. Wow! It sure was my loss waiting so long to check it out. Everyone in the store was awesome. I went up and down each aisle to see what they had and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The store is clean and organized, the vegetable selection is awesome, and a wonderful treat was discovered when I encountered the meat department. They have unusual cuts of pork and to my surprise, fresh ham hocks that I couldn't find (even frozen) at any store aside from one Kihei. Now I can make my Portuguese bean soup without waiting for the holidays ham bone! LOL. I don't need to brag on the fish selection, do I? It too, is awesome and the fish is fresh. I wanted to buy everything I saw. Oh, and you have to try their prepared food including the lumpia! You won't go wrong shopping in Seafood City. There's something for every culture. read more

Today was my first time shopping at seafood city and I personally had a great experience. (Sorry to the previous yelpers who had a bad experience). The store was clean, the Ate's and Kuya's were super friendly. We asked where to find Hopia, and they helped us find it. Easy. The ladies working at the cashier were also very friendly. The aisles were very easy to navigate and they were very clean. Unlike the other locations I have been to, there were no boxes all over the floors. Huge plus. And I loved the variety of snacks, drinks, milk teas, etc. I was reading the previous reviews and while I do understand the frustration over the $0.15 a brown bag price, the simple solution is to just bring your own bag next time or just not get a bag at all. Choose your battles lol. The line for grill city was long, but fortunately for us it wasn't as long as I had expected. (We went around 5 pm on a Thursday.) We got the vegetable lumpia, halo halo, grilled squid, lobster balls. The produce section was surprisingly very pleasant. There was a lot of variety for Filipino vegetables. I was very pleased with the pricing. The cost of one bag (4 choy sum) at seafood city was equivalent to the price per pound at Times in Kihei. In the future, I do hope to see some Ube! We are really happy that Seafood City has arrived in Maui! If my husband could, he would eat there every day. We visited in July and I really wanted the Fresh Lumpia. One sign says, Fresh Lumpia $8.99. Another sign says Fresh Lumpia Ready in 5 Minutes. I ordered at the register and the saleslady replied "We are out of Fresh Lumpia". It was 11 am on a weekday. I attempted to order a few days later and was met with, "We don't have any made yet, maybe later." Okay...another few days later I ordered and saleslady's reply was, "Oh...we no longer make fresh lumpia..." I pointed to the signs and advised her that this was my third visit in the same week and was never told that the fresh lumpia was no longer available. I also told her that those signs need to be removed. She told me she would tell her manager. This is really bad to have signs selling an item when you no longer carry it. Bad, bad, bad... read more

From a large selection of fresh fish ( some I ever heard of or find anywhere else), to the bbq chicken & grilled eggplant that I love & the stocked shelves of food/grocery/household items. Quick review, items are way to pricey. Food grill, long lines, food has no taste, very overpriced and portions are very small. The workers behind the line seems like they have no clue what they are doing, maybe the management should have given the employees longer training. Won't be going back there again, back to Paradise, a lot cheaper,bigger portions and more to choose from. read more
