5/11/26 First time coming here. On Maui with family who ate here several yrs ago & we were hungry for Filipino food. Got here around lunch time. The parking lot was almost full but we managed to find a spot by the front door. Upon entering the store, the grocery section is to the left with a good selection of Filipino food & a produce section. To the right is the take out line & a few tables if you want to dine in. The line was pretty long but it moved fast. There are several friendly ladies behind the counter that quickly served up your plate. Most of the entrees had signs on them. They have such a nice spread to choose from. Prices are reasonable & they don't skimp on the quantity. I had a 2-entree plate for $15.99. 1 entree is $10.99, 3-entree is $19.99. All plates come with rice or pancit, or you can do half & half. I got the half & half with pork adobo & teriyaki chicken. The plate was yummy The pancit had 2 different noodles, the clear & the regular pancit noodles. There was an ample amount of veggies and shiitake mushrooms. The pork adobo had good flavor & well seasoned. Not too many fatty pieces & very tender. It didn't have as much as a vinergry taste but still was good. The teriyaki chicken was well flavored with a little sweetness, not overly dry, tasty as well. There was so much food, it's definitely a shareable plate or leftovers for a couple of days. They also have several soups & the entrees can be purchased a la carte. Overall, this place is worth going to. Don't let the long line fool you. I wanted Filipino food so this is the reason to make a stop here and what a bonus- Paradise Supermart is huge market with tons of Filipino goods, produce, and even take out foods & desserts! Wow. My husband missed out as he waited in the car, he could have grab all his favorites Filipino goods! I looked around and browsed the grocery products before I get to the hot food/take out selection as I know I will be buying me some foods. What I like about Paradise Supermart is the items are organized, there are tons of products. What I don't like is most items has no prices or sign, even the produce. It will have to be a surprise or ask at the register. The prices are on high side but hey we need Filipino goods no matter the cost. The huge bag of wing bean caught my eyes, never seen them grown so huge before, no prices, when I ask the staff, it was $6.99! Pricey, on Oahu they cost $2-$3 per bag. The hot food selection, wow! This is my favorites! So many selections to choose from and even desserts galore! I got the 1 entree plate to try $9.99, for 2 items = $14.99, the difference in entree choices is $5. kinda steep. I wanted to try the chicken adobo and noodles. If the food is good, I would be back for my Filipino fix on Maui. Also got banana lumpia and a huge piece of the fried pork belly. We ate the food that night when we got back to Oahu and the verdict, chicken thighs were used which chicken wasn't tender, more hard to chew. I never tried adobo in thighs before & missing the adobo sauce, I like to add that to my rice. The noodles were good, I like that it comes with mix of canton and bihon noodles, just how my in-laws would make it. The fried roast pork, I loved! I will be back for more of this fried crispy goodness, I chopped the pork in to pieces and saved in freezer to use in my Sari Sari soup or add to ramen noodles. Being half Filipino myself, I've eaten my culture's food made by friends/family, and also from restaurants all over the mainland. Many times I've been less than impressed with the versions of dishes that were not as tasty as what I grew up with. I found that Paradise has the most options that are ALL delicious (from Tinola to guisante, adobo to lechon, turon to baked desserts and more). Also, the store has Asian vegetables, snacks and convenience store staples like sodas and of course local juices, etc. And the employees are so friendly! This is a fantastic local spot to get your home-cooked Filipino food fix. The store is broken up into a supermarket with plenty of Asian goods, but most people I saw here were crowding the hot food line. I stopped by on a Sunday morning and there were quite a number of families here grabbing entree lunch plates. Everyone seemed pretty local and knew what they wanted and the staff was efficient, so the line moved pretty quickly. I ordered a bento chop steak with pancit, and it was a surprising amount of food. Even though it was just a bento portion (their smallest size), the box was stuffed full with pancit noodles and chop steak. Everything was savory and delicious and very reasonably priced at $7. I also rounded out my order with an ahi sinigang, which had two generous portions of ahi and salmon in it. The depth from the fish really helped to round out the gentle sour tamarind flavors in the broth. Only minor complaints are that everything tended to be a bit on the greasier side, and the occasional piece of steak was a little overcooked. I was turned on to halo halo and apparently these people know how to do it right, with fresh ingredients in the bottom that included sweet potatoes, coconut jelly, and avocado! Still my favorite spot for Filipino food on Maui after all these years. I liked Vidad's, but they moved to a food truck in Kihei now which is out of my way. Bistro Manila is good for sit down meals. Golden Coin I was not really impressed with, the few times I've been....I could name a few other establishments, but overall for value and quality - dine in or take out, or even catering, Paradise is the place to go. I had stopped going for a few months as I had run into some problems with too much fat or gristle in the meats there, but they seem to be back on track. The food can still be greasy at times, but if you've got plenty of rice (not just pancit) it helps. The food has always been well portioned and flavorful. And I've never gotten sick from their hot line, most importantly. My favorites include the pork and peas, pork and pumpkin, and chicken papaya. Tried their beef lauya (soup with beef and cabbage) for the first time. Extremely greasy but very tender and seasoned well. Reminded me of corned beef and cabbage in a soup but with stew meat. I enjoyed it though. They're always pretty busy around dinner time, but the line moves quickly. Reasonably priced and centrally located. Easy for take out or to eat in at the few tables they have. Went here specifically for bagnet and was not disappointed. This place has perfected its bagnet; crispy but not too hard skin and soft juicy meat. Remember it's bagnet, so the amount of fat is to be expected. Got there about 30 minutes before closing and there were 5 strips of bagnet left. 3.5* for me, but not quite 4. Paradise is one of the bigger Filipino stores on the island and I come here every so often throughout the year. The one thing that I think they really have going for them is their hot food section. This is the main reason that I come to the store, especially if I am craving Filipino food. I think the same goes for most of the patrons of the store. My mom is weird and unlike most Filipino mothers, has stopped cooking for me since I went away to college (unless I request for something very specific of course) so I have to find it somewhere else. Lol. I've tried a variety of their dishes from the lumpia, pork adobo, chicken adobo, longanisa, to their pork & peas. Everything is usually pretty good! The one dish that I always have to get though is their chopped steak. Flavors, seasoning, everything is always consistently good. I highly recommend getting the chopped steak! They serve their hot foods in plate lunches (choice of rice, noodles, or 1/2 and 1/2 + # entree choices), containers (1 entree in S, M, or L container), or pans for large parties. The ladies behind the counter usually give generous portions and a 2 entree plate can usually get me through a few meals. Enjoy your food to go or inside where they have tables and chairs. Throughout the rest of the store you will find pretty standard Filipino goods - shampoos, soaps, & conditions, chichiria (snacks), various noodles for pancit, bagoong, tocino (my fav), baked goods (pianono, bibingka, bread). While there's no change in rating, I did try another dish due to one of my favorites, mungo beans, not being available. FOOD: Chicken Papaya The first couple of sips lit up my tastebuds but it ended up being too vinegary. What was vinegar doing in this dish in the first place? Anyway, the slices of green papaya were firm, and they use chicken wingettes as opposed to boneless breasts which was a positive for me. Axe the vinegar please! Roast Pork - $7.95 (medium container) The slices of pork had both dry and tender pieces, drowning in gravy, just how I like it. It was tasty but just a tad bit too salty. While soaking up the sun at baby beach... sis said she's craving Filipino food. She pulled out the iPhone and went on Yelp and lo and be hold, this spot was the first on the list. Packed up and soaked with sand and sticky salt water... we trekked from Lahaina to Kahului. We pulled onto their drive way and upon walking in... sis and I were automatically transported to our childhood days in P.I.! I think I can say this...and I will say this... this is the best Filipino store I've been too compared to the "main" land. They have everything! They have the "turo-turo" food that you can eat in the store or take home. Like most reviews, they specialized on Ilocano dishes. My family and I had the three item food... I got the following: ginataan sitaw kalabasa, lechon kawali, and daing na bangus (my fave!) and I went to town... well not really... just with the veggies and the fish. I ate some of the lechon but seeing the fat and all... I stopped. Most of the dishes were ok ... a little heavy on the oil but it is what it is. Not going to discuss what the fam had b/c it'll take forever... but we ate and grubbed... mission accomplished. We then headed to shop and boy oh boy... we created a lot of damage. Sis and I just kept piling stuff on the cart... Milo... pan de coco... puto... curly tops! My nephew's nanny got the stuff to make turon (lumpia like with banana inside) = we were all happy campers! For those who do not know, Paradise Supermart is not only the best place to get some groceries and drinks/beer on the way to the beach but it is also the #1 spot for authentic filipino food in the island. If you need Filipino products. This is the store to go. Just keep in mind. It is an ethnic store. Once you enter, expect to be transported to an indoor Filipino mart. Hearing different Filipino dialects is expected here. And if you look like you don't speak or understand...I hate to say this, but they (the employees) will judge and talk. I personally despise this. I may not speak, but I clearly understand. I will gladly answer back nicely in English and most times the employees will be embarrassed for being caught talking smack. But it won't stop them. Because I'll go inside on another occasion and the pattern will repeat. You may ask, then why do I return. Plain and simple. There's not too many other options where there's Filipino food to go or stock products that I really need for a Filipino dish. While on vacation in Maui Hawaii - I relied on Yelp to find those hole in the wall finds and the need to find a few Filipino groceries and food items were needed according to my family. We asked the locals where to go and the Paradise Supermart came highly recommended. Although this supermarket/restaurant of popular Filipino foods was far from where we were staying...we found out later in our vacation that this is by far the BEST Filipino supermaket in the area. Others pale in comparison to the food offerings in the cafeteria/restaurant/grocery according to my parents. Paradise Supermart needed a Yelp review badly because I was not able to find it on my Yelp iPhone app and asking the locals was the only was to find this place. Note to all my Filipino friends who are planning on visiting and cooking their own Filipino food in Maui....this supermarket will suit you the best if you are looking for the Filipino groceries you need and crave. Went for a late lunch the other day, had the the chopped beef steak and a vegetable dish that lots of fiber and seem very earthy in taste.(I felt the vegetables could have been washed better) I liked the steak and green beans but did not care for veggie dish much of food looked it had been there since the morning. This supermarket/Filipino deli style place was a perfect find. The offered a good variety of dishes as super reasonable prices. My husband had the fish, my friend had chicken, and I had the beef and vegetables, all served with pancit and/or rice. The entrees were all very flavored and delicious!!! The servings were HUGE, I think the three of use could have easily shared one plate. Been here twice and the food is mediocre. If you are craving for Filipino food and puts less emphasis on quality, this is where to go. This is the only place I've been to that puts ginger in their Kare-Kare. Also, if you go shopping there, they don't put price tags on most of their items, so you'll have to ask the workers. I was visiting my Auntie who moved to Maui during the early 1970s from the northern Philippines. She highly recommended this place since I had a craving for authentic Filipino food, like my late Mom's cooking. This place did not disappoint at all! This is my go to place for Filipino food. BEST FILIPINO FOOD ON THE ISLAND!! I have NEVER had a bad experience there. Yes, the ladies are a little rough around the edges (I think it's a cultural thing), but they are still very efficient in what they do. I work in healthcare, so cleanliness is a must. Think Panda Express Filipino style!! Old school comfort food served by your auntie! The lechon is moist and tender and packed with flavor. Pancit has a nice soy flavor and cooked al dente. Their fried bananas are wrapped in a crunchy shell then coated with hard sugar caramel. Yummers! read more
