    $26.90/lb candied salmon
    Jasmine L.

Of the 2 places in Granville Island that sell the west coast delicacy of Candied Salmon, Seafood City indeed is the most affordable with equal quality! PROS: -the most affordable option at $26.90/lbs for any of the 3 flavours: salmon candied straw, maple, and peppered. -Maple Nugget (large cubes of moist salmon that was sweetened just enough) -Salmon candied straw (much more firmer and sweeter) CONS: -They don't allow for samples. So I ordered a couple pieces of each flavour to try first -Mixed reviews about the service. The older lady that took my 1st order was very abrupt and unfriendly. The younger man that took my order during my 2nd visit was a lot more patient and accommodating.

    Hot spicy and regular

My mom got me some spicy candied salmon (not to thick but thin) and regular candied salmon (pretty thick cut). The spicy one has a kick! Give it a few seconds and BAM... It's pretty good. The regular one is pretty thick and tasty. Not bad but the price here is crazy expensive. But good quality.

    Mmmmm Seafood City

Definitely my usual for seafood on Granville Island, Seafood City knows their stuff, as they should after 25 years in the biz. There's something good about buying Kumamotos and Kusshis from a kind elderly Japanese woman, and that sashimi-grade tuna looks delish, though I've yet to try it. The oysters, manilas, local spot prawns, and everything else I've had from here is top notch - reliable and exceedingly fit for fine entertaining. The only unbonus I can think of: they're heavy on the unsustainable packaging - sometimes double or tripple bagging in non-biodegradable plastic bags. Switch to biodegradable bags and that last star might be in order!

Shoutout to Brian and Ray! Thanks for the uni hook up

Uhhhh, do you love seafood? do you love eating? do you like to eat seafood that you can cook yourself because they'll make great recommendations? who the heck don't?! I come here fairly regularly and always have great service (thanks Brian/Ray!). They occasionally get sea urchins, and if you haven't had uni, well it's time to start.... now... like go right now, why are you even reading this? Besides the sea urchin i'd highly recommend the salmon maple nuggets. Boneless and sweet, their a great protein snack with a bit of sugar for anybody that lifts out there. Other recommendations? kusshi oysters! always fresh!

Avoid the candied salmon. No samples, no exchanges. Ended up leaving a nearly full bag at the counter.

When we ambled in here one Saturday afternoon looking for some tuna, we found it a little difficult to get service. There weren't many customers but our questions were met with short answers. Then when we asked about holiday hours, we were told they were on the door. They were: but on a small piece of paper and tricky to spot. We felt like we'd insulted the clerk by asking her about them. We ended up buying our tuna down at Granville Island. The tuna here looked fresher, though. Next time I expect we will buy out tuna and other fresh fish here, but we'll be sure to wear our armor against the icy looks from staff.

Fresh mini scallops, squid, prawns, and mussels. He let us choose how much of each and was patient when we kept changing our minds. Apart from fresh, raw, seafood they also have frozen and premade dishes, sauces and other kitchenware you could need when cooking or eating seafood. Prices were a lot more reasonable than I expected.! What could be intimidating was a lovely experience! I'd go back here again for sure.

There's also the fun factor: make it a part of a seawall walk & stop at Granville Island Market along the way for your other dinner fixings.

We've had several of the products from here as recently as two weeks ago when we walked down there for an adventure to pick up some shrimp and some jerked salmon jerky. Yes that's right, Jerked Salmon Jerky. YUM. We ate the entire package in one afternoon. The shrimp comes frozen in a bed of ice and needs some time to thaw. But once it is thawed, it's great quality and wonderful in any seafood dish or simply as part of a shrimp cocktail with seafood sauce. This is how we enjoyed our last batch of shrimp. Also available is salmon and assorted white fish. If you enjoy fish and/or seafood it is worth visiting the docks and getting something local.

I came in to check for a sauce my friend asked for but stayed for a bite! Did I mention that this place is cheap AF!? I don't know how they do it but it's incredibly affordable and the quality of food is impressive! I got their Veggies on Fire (Cheddar, lettuce, sprouts, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, pickles, red onion, banana peppers, Dijon, spicy mayo - Hot Sauce: Dawson's Shawarma). This was $8. Plus I added waffle fries, which I don't even care for. But these were heavily seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sandwiches come with chips but you can't miss the fries. You can choose which breads you want and I choose sourdough. Highly recommend that you toast that bread. The sandwich was huge and staked with so many veggies. The hot sauce was very mild but paired so well. The service was phenomenal! Above and beyond and so friendly. The place gets quite busy, understandable, and they are still so patient and friendly. We found this as our initial destination had an absurd wait, and we left satisfied and pleasantly surprised. I saw pics online of what appeared to be large, juicy, and crispy fried chicken sandwiches sporting local hot sauces as the secret ingredients, and that's what brought us in. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with the Hot Duck chili crisp on it. Upon the bartenders rec we opted for the extra hot, which was a good call because it didn't really pack a punch to us chili heads, but had great flavor. The chicken was juicy and crispy, and the brioche bun was so soft and fluffy. All around a good sandwich, but we found it strange that they only offered it with chips, and no upgrade to fries, which were available as an add on order. As we ate our sandwich and waffle fries we realized there was no smell of oil in the air or sounds of a fryer, which had us scratching our heads. We looked for a hood too and noticed none. Eventually we realized that everything here is commercially air fried, which was both fun to learn and somewhat surprising. If this place had a fryer, it would be SO much better, but considering this limitation, it was solid. The sauce selection was huge too. I loved that you could taste them all and that they offered some amazing deals too. We found a few that warranted us checking a bag on the way back so we could enjoy them on the other side of the border, and I'm stoked they offer online ordering and shipping so we can get some more when they run out. All in all a solid experience. Staff was so friendly and accommodating. As a hot sauce store, this is a 5 star experience, as a restaurant, also good but just have the right expectations.
