I Will be trying new optometrist after having mixed experience. Glasses were great and prescription was accurate. I was not too happy about test done that was not covered by my insurance and was not told until after the fact. Also the test is covered if referred to another optometrist by my PCP. The copy of prescription provided through website was formatted wierd with different fonts and did not line up with columns for sphere, cylinder, axis so was useless. read more

Do not come to this office unless you want to be sold on the brands of contacts they want to sell. Everytime I ask for my favorite brand, CooperVision Biofinity contacts, they want to sell me on daily Accuvue or Total 30! I do not like the push to sell at all. My family has been going here for a few years. The office does this song and dance where they take pictures of the eyes and charge you $30 extra (not covered by insurance) to read and interpret the results. I thought it seemed scammy from the beginning but let it go each year. Fast forward to this year's checkup for my 12 year old son... Dr. Prassad, per usual, asked if I would like to have him read the results that are already sitting there in front of him. I said no, not today. He then laughed at me and rudely said in front of my son, "You don't want to know about the health of your child's eyes? Um, okay. After all the money you spent on his eyes [for private vision therapy]?" Of course I care about my child's eyes and to question that in front of my son is incredibly unprofessional. My advice for Dr. Prassad: Roll the extra charge into the exam fee or just cover the cost to avoid sounding like a sleazy car salesman and bottom line, you should not be judging and disrespecting people for not wanting to pay extra to interpret photos that are right in front of your face. I have been going here for about 5 years and have never had an issue. The staff communicated and sends reminders when you need an appointment, always very clear for how long my families glasses will take to be processed and I call and ask when I haven't heard anything. I have coming here for years. In July I went in for my sunglass prescription. I bought the glasses from a department store and not from LB Family optometry, so they charged me $30. I paid it but didn't get my original lens back. They tossed out the lens. Usually I get the lens back. I'm not happy at all. They are Burberry glasses- I can put the original lens in and give it to a friend or sell it. Now I can't. They won't at least give me the $30 back. read more

This is the first time I go to Long Beach Optomotrist and let me tell you I received the best service I could possibly ever imagine. This team truly from the bottom of their heart cares about their patients. I came in with my two year old to get an eye exam for both of us... I know I don't know what I was thinking. As soon as we starting checking in at the front desk my daughter threw the biggest tantrum in the world. I was flustered and had to step out, out was so embarrassing. Jennifer came out to help me and the way she handled the situation with kindness and so much care was like nothing I have ever seen. I was overwhelmed with emotion that there are still people like that out there. She gave my daughter so many stickers and squishy balls, it completely calmed her down. Thank you so very much!!! Dr. Pham was also amazing and she did so great with my two year old. Last but not least, Tia helped me pick out the most amazing Kate spade sun glasses. Worst experience as a patient and customer no communication skills and blames Dr Prasad for closing early on Presidents' Day and couldn't call me and let me know to come in early for my 5pm appt on that Monday. I would have come in earlier had I known that the office is closing earlier. I only confirmed twice during the week asking if they will be open on Presidents' Day which was yes and asked if any early availability and they said no, no drs were going to be in on Monday it's open only for fittings and pick ups. So I had no choice but to keep my 5pm appt. And then to show up and there's a note left on the door that the office closed early. No phone call was received, just five different texts reminding me of my 5pm appt on Monday. Then the excuse I got was "the Dr had an unexpected situation" so that's why they closed early. So unprofessional do not come to this establishment if you expect four star rating cause you'll be only getting one star and a poor excuse of an apology. read more

I am in my late 40's so finally needed reading glasses. I do not have experience with optometry so didn't know my options. The doctor told me, in front of my child, I have terrible distance vision and would flunk my DL exam. Also saying "You drive your child" I do not have a problem with driving. Also, they all kept trying to sell me services or items NOT covered fully by my insurance, even after I said no. I was told I needed progressive lenses (very expensive and not covered by insurance), but not offered all my choices or it wasn't even brought up. I called a day later to tell them to not put anti-reflective lenses on my son's glasses (he doesn't have a prescription, but his muscles are slightly weak) and they kept trying to talk me into buying them under the guise of "benefits." They are $80 more per pair of glasses. I picked up my progressives and said "I see blurry on the sides", but felt my concerns were dismissed. I couldn't even use my new glasses on the computer that night. The issue I have is that my options were not discussed with me and I felt as if I was at a car dealership where they try to sell you extra stuff. They will give me a new lenses, but NOT A REFUND. DR.Prassad is real good...But the optician that will sell you glasses and contact lenses will over charged you..check on your VSP coverage first on how much will they cover.. I have 2 coverage with 2 employers....and for contacts and a pair of glasses is over $500.00 dollars i purchased last year . I just came back from Costco took my prescription for a pair or glasses and contacts is 59.00...out the door with my 2 VSP coverage.. I really don't understand... Same basic glasses same exact contacts...Just giving you guys Heads Up Guys DR.Prassad is Good..Don't get me wrong...Better suggestion is to Just get your prescription of your contacts and glasses and take it to Costco or Sam's club.. Updating my review partially because of a resolution to my original issue (and partly because I don't want to be a James Cordon lol). Dr. Prasad is very personable and helpful. I really liked working with him. He was able to tweak my prescription and answered all my questions. I didn't have as great an experience with the optometrist, but in retrospect I haven't been to a practice that immediately set you up to buy glasses and contacts right after your appointment. I would have saved myself a lot of stress and trouble remembering that you don't have to buy glasses or contacts as part of your appointment! I might still go back for glasses and I'd be curious to see if they're as much better as the doctor said they would be. I also would have appreciated being told up front about the extra charge for taking an image of your retina vs dilation. I did have to explain my insurance and get them to double check their estimates because they didn't apply my secondary insurance after I told them about it and asked them to. So just double check that they get your insurance right. Otherwise, they seemed like a good practice. They were gracious enough to resolve my issue with ordering the wrong contacts. read more

I would recommend this place under a couple of conditions. If you are unemployed and/or have a very flexible schedule, this might be the place for you. I had to take time off of work for exams and to pick up glasses. This normally isn't a big issue, but in my case when I went to pick up my glasses, the optician ruined my lenses during the fitting so I had to come back. She urged me to take the ruined glasses home but she didn't instruct me to bring them back. This may seem obvious to some, but she didn't tell me, and the text I received read, "Your glasses are ready". So I came back in a week later and when I didn't have the frames with me, I was treated in a very condescending manner. Because I work, I had to wait another week before I was able to take time off of work. I went back the following Friday and the office was closed. There was a sign on the door saying "Training taking place, we are closed". The text I had received didn't state that the office would be closed during published working hours. Further, the text open/close times don't match the website. I think they should send out a blast text to their patients when they decide to shut the office during work hours. So I missed work again and had nothing to show for it. I would also recommend this place if you like being treated like a circus freak. Dr. Pham did my last exam and her exclamations of "Wow!! I've never seen anything like this!!" and "You made my day much more entertaining and interesting because I've never seen his before!!" were thoughtless and embarrassing. I do have a rare vision issue, but I expect doctors to remain professional. I think she needs some extra training in the empathy/compassion department. The two stars are for Dr. Prasad (he seems caring and really wanting to help) and for the front desk's ability to provide me my medical records in a timely manner. I asked for them because I'm going to a different provider now. There are plenty of optometrists to choose from in Long Beach where the communication is actually good and where patients are treated with dignity and respect. read more

No issues with the optometrist. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the rating is largely based on poor policies and management. I've been to different optometrist over the years. Only reason I came to this new one was because my fiancé and I recently moved to the Long Beach area. After my fiancé completed her exam which was covered by our insurance the management/ staff was unwilling to provide us with the full prescription information which included the PD. The worker there stated that the PD was only provided to those that purchases glasses directly from them. All frames there are clearly overpriced as well. The only way they would be willing to provide the PD would be for an additional 15 dollar charge. Very disappointed in the poor policies and customer service. I had a schedule appointment at this new optometrist too but I will no longer pursue that. Due to the poor customer service and dumb policies we will not be returning here. I will ensure I do not recommend this place to anyone I know. Getting the PD at my past optometrist was never an issue. read more

This place came recommended to me and I was excited to bring my 3 year old here for her eye exam. I've heard the doctors here are great! It's unfortunate that we will not be going to see them solely due to the lady who works the front desk. Instead of being empathetic and understanding that I had to reschedule our appt due to the fact that my daughter woke up with pink eye, she was completely rude about the situation. Her bad attitude was a quick turn off and we will no longer be going here. If I were the doctors here, I would reconsider who is representing their business. The front desk person is the first person the customers come in contact with and you would expect them to be welcoming, nice, and a direct reflection and representation of the doctors. That is not the case here. After speaking with both families that recommended us here about this situation, they both have said they have also had not-so-great interactions with this person as well and they have both agreed they will no longer be giving this practice their business. Great experience with Long Beach Optometry. I didn't get to work with Dr. Prasad but had a great time working with Dr. Pham who helped me with my new prescription. She was very friendly and professional. Was out of there in 1 hour and going back next week to get my contacts. I have seen some comments about difficulties with office staff. I'm not sure if these were old staff but the 3 staff I worked with were all professional and helpful. One of them was very helpful in helping me to find my insurance information. They were a little bit expensive and I might have been able to get a cheaper deal at Costco, but the experience was positive and I would go back. read more

Completely unprofessional and no care for patients. Explained the emergency and waited for two weeks for an appointment on Monday 01/09 and had already confirmed via text. Then today Friday 01/06 received a call saying they had to reschedule because our appointment was "accidentally scheduled during their lunch time and their office is closed" making it another week away during an one hr timeframe I had given that I was unavailable. It's hard to believe that the person scheduling appointments doesn't know what time there office is closed for lunch. Personally, he was great with offering me new ideas for contacts and glass lenses, took his time with me to figure out what worked best for my needs. Clean office & well organized! Felt very welcomed by the ladies at check in & the techs that helped with my glasses were awesome I felt no pressure to "have to buy" anything- im so indecisive but loved what i chose . I love that being a patient with them comes with a frame & lens warranty in case I mess up my glasses, gives me a peace of mind. I highly recommend getting the "optos" screening done. It's just $30 bucks and it was so cool to see the doctor explain how the inside of my eye looked. It's like an Xray when you go to the dentist to check for cavities! read more

Very informative and thorough, they take the time to make sure you understand everything -- from examination, to ordering glasses, contacts, insurance coverage, costs, or any questions that you have about your eye health and options for vision correction. Really appreciate that this is a locally owned small business, as well as a professional practice. Dr. Prasad and his whole team all go the extra mile to see that you are comfortable and properly cared for. This is the type of consistent care and personalized attention that you will not find in most places, including multi-doctor practices, or at big retailers like Lens Crafters or Costco. Their prices are also very competitive on contact lenses versus anywhere else. Although they may not beat the cheap prices online, at Costco or Sam's club, for eye glass frames and lenses, they utilize well known designers and brands, not cheap knockoffs. They also US based lens manufacturers that use state of the art materials and techniques, so it is a pretty fair value given all of those factors. read more

Yelp led me right to Dr. Prasad's office! The reviews are so true. He does have some fascinating machines. None of which include a poof test! When I told him that's why I came here, he laughed and said he knew how much anxiety that can cause for some patients (me!!!) and it can skew results. You can tell he cares enough to invest in new machines. His assistants took good care of me up front with filing my insurance. He did recommend a retinal scan which was not covered under my insurance. I think it cost me an extra $40 (can't remember exactly) on top of my regular exam copay. He didn't find anything wrong and even emailed me a copy of the photos. Very cool stuff! He was nice and even answered some silly question my boyfriend and I were arguing about. I only gave it four stars because I couldn't find a pair of frames that worked for me. The selection isn't terrible for a small office. I just have a smaller face and they had very basic metal frames and the plastic ones just didn't work for me. I ended up going to Lenscrafters with my prescription. There was one guy on the staff who was asked to help me pick out some frames who was a bit awkward. Otherwise, the staff were very nice and helpful. read more
