The pier is always clean. You can go fishing, look at the beach, or just sit and enjoy the nice breeze. Sometimes there are pop up vendors selling various items or live music which adds special touch to the atmosphere. There's no shade so remember to wear hat or sunscreen if needed. The beach is always clean and welcoming :)
I'd heard of Seal Beach (the town) but had never visited until now. In Westminster visiting friends, we decided to head to Seal Beach pier. Summer was clearly in session, as the shores were full of teenagers frolicking in the water with friends, and families enjoying the free sun tans and small children playing in the sand. The weather was lovely and I quickly regretted not bringing my bathing suit. Nice, chill, vibe, I can't wait to visit again.
I love this area for a weekend walk. The pier, located off of Main St, is a nice sized pier that offers great views and a relaxed vibe. There is a police substation at the beginning of the pier and you'll usually have some sort of entertainment in the same area. We love to get a hotdog on a stick from Jane's Corndogs, and find a bench facing the pier. There is paid parking adjacent to the pier and limited street parking. We usually park in the free lot off of Marina Dr in Long Beach, which is about a nice mile walk to the pier. On this trip we also ventured to Main Street and enjoyed visiting the shops. There are many restaurants in the area along with coffee shops and ice cream spots.
Seal beach pier is a wonderful place to enjoy some sun and sun kissed breezes. I'm drawn to the vastness of the ocean and nine times out of ten when I close my eyes the ocean is what I see. It's definitely one spot you can feel the heartbeat of the city. You'll often catch the whole community it seems like running to the end of the pier and back in the mornings. It is clean and I usually find parking on the street on the same side as the beach. If you ever get a chance to visit, don't miss the chance. "Be training for what you want in life"
This is one of my favorite spots. The views are incredible, and the atmosphere is so inviting. Parking is generally easy to find, and there's nothing better than a walk along the beach while taking in a beautiful sunset.
Today was a beautiful day for a walk on the pier. It is Saturday and there were a lot of people that were fishing. I don't know what they called, but they seem to be having fun trying. It appears that they may have had some kind of a fishing contest before we came. People put up a tent and we're singing classic rock songs at the entrance to the pier the music was very nice.
I really love Seal Beach. It's a gorgeous beach without the gigantic crowds of some of the other beaches. I usually go in the morning when the surfers first start showing up and the man is driving the sifting tractor. Most of the times that I'm there the surf school Van is there to meet students. This time of year there aren't too many people fishing off the pier like there are in the summer. The Pier is decorated for Christmas with pine Garland wrapping all of the light posts. It looks very pretty. I love that groups of people gather on the benches to just chit chat, and they all seem to be neighborhood people who know each other. There are lots of people jogging and walking dogs. Main Street at Seal Beach is so cute with lots of little local restaurants and shops along the tree lined street. I love the Irish pub on main Street, and Bogart's coffee house on Ocean Avenue.
This is a nice pier located at the end of Main Street. You can come here and relax. I like to check out what the fishermen are catching. Today there were very few people fishing. It' much more chill here than some of the other piers. If you are in the area of Old Town check out the pier.
Local fave pier at the end of Main Street with fire dept & kid's place ground. During summer time, movie at the park on the beach. Small community with great neighborhood and great Main Street that has everything you could ask for - they do have a library and teatime in the cottage too. Great place to seat and enjoys life or the little thing in life. Love it here.
Walked along the pathway by the beach today. A lot less crowded than the pier and Main Street. We live in Huntington Beach but it's way too touristy so we like to come to Seal Beach. There are some great restaurants on Main and we rotate between breakfast, lunch and dinner, and then always a walk afterwards. The pier is fantastic. Always a beautiful walk and you can check out what kind of fish everyone has caught that day. FYI, no bathrooms at the end of the pier so make sure you make a stop under the pier to be safe. :) I mean there's bathrooms under the pier, not go to the bathroom under the pier. That would be frowned upon. Besides the pier, there's also a lovely walk to the left along the beach. Check out the really nice homes and rentals on one side and the beach and ocean on the other. About a mile round trip down to where the path ends and back. Gorgeous day today, not too hot, with a nice breeze.
Absolutely lovely beach to spend time. Despite its central location to OC & LA counties, this beach and pier were very serene on a weekend. Plentiful lot and street parking. Not too crowded, with plenty of space to walk and take photos. The beach itself was clean as well. Definitely recommended for a relaxing time.
This pier is not as nice at HB or Hermosa Beach, however, it's also not as busy and crowded with is a plus. Parking for this pier is also less expensive than the others. If you park at the beach side lot, it's $2/hr. So it's not bad. There are times that you can also get street parking for free, but only if you are there to eat and grab a quick bite as it's only 1 hr max. The only negative side of this pier is the restroom. There's only one underneath the pier. So if you are going to enjoy your day and go for a swim away from the crowd, you may end up walking back to the pier to go to restroom. read more

Beautiful beach to visit! I've been here a few times and the sand was extremely clean, and usually the water is too. The beach is very maintained and I am glad I have done beach clean ups here before. This place doesn't get crazy packed like other beaches and it's pretty easy to park for free sometimes or just pay a few bucks for a couple of hours here. read more

Trash everywhere. Smells like oil and algae. Water is as brown as poop. What else can I say. They can say green green green. They can't even keep a local spot clean. read more
I gave Seal Beach Pier 5 Stars because it have something that no pier in Los Angeles County has: No smelly smoking rude angry fishermen and fisherwomen monopolizing the pier so no one else can enjoy it! It's clean, safe, and romantic. It has many benches you can sit on without getting fish smell or hepatitis from the homeless. It's adjacent to downtown Seal Beach, an idyllic community with lots of nice restaurants, bars, and shops. Go check it out. read more
Just went to seal beach today and finally saw the pier after last years fire which burned the Ruby's that used to be located at the end of the walkway. It's opened up again but the have the end gated off so you cannot pass a certain point. There was a decent amount of people there but not as many as I would have expected for it being a holiday. Brought my little one and he enjoyed looking around and trying to look for fish in the water. This particular pier has a lot of fisherman casting out their fishings rods into the ocean so you'll see a lot of fish guts lining the railing(one of the reasons I gave four stars instead of five). This pier could be kept up a little more. There's plenty of pigeons hanging around so of course there's bird droppings everywhere to dodge when walking around. Overall I've always loved seal beach because it's one of the more relaxed vibe beaches in OC. I hope they can renovate the rest of the pier so it can be restored! read more

Great beach for all ages. It's pretty clean although i did find a piece of glass in the sand near the water Glad I was wearing my flip flops! The life guards are awesome as I watched them swim out to tell one from our group to come in a little closer. Glad they are on it and thank you for all you do for us! While I didn't venture down Main Street there are plenty of restaurants to grab a bite to eat. The parking lot at the pier fills up quickly and it's probably easier finding parking on the street somewhere.Pay attention to street signs though because many of them only have one hour parking and you don't want to get a ticket! Just before you pull into the parking lot, on the right there is a nice grassy area. Saw some people doing what looked like Thai Chi with long sticks (see video). This is a nice place read more

An unexpected gem as we travelled the PCH. We stopped in for some tasty treats at a bakery and enjoyed them by the beach. Very clean and quaint little town. One of the longest wooden piers in California, free two hour street parking and a few streets of cute little shops to explore. Quite a nice change of pace! read more

Beautiful pier and chill place to hangout. Definitely less crowded than Huntington Beach Pier (so that's a big plus for me)! There's plenty of parking as well. You can walk directly across the street from the pier to the cute little downtown area. There's lots of bars, restaurants, and dessert places to stroll around. read more
Definitely a great place to go fishing, and the best part is that you don't need a fishing license! As of late we've been catching mostly jack smelt and corbina using both live bait and plastics fairly consistently during high tide. And most of the time we aren't using very long poles since the fish end up fairly close to the pier itself. We enjoy going to this pier during the week days since there are not too many people around, and theres not much competition when it comes to finding a place on the pier to drop your lines. Also, if you just want to walk around the town they have so many cute shops, yummy bakeries and so much more that you can definitely spend more than a few hours here! Look out for meter parking or you can park in the lot next to the pier and pay by the hour. read more
We used to fish this pier often as kids. On warm summer nights, when the swimmers and surfers thinned out in the waters adjacent to the pier, we plyed the skinny water for small sharks, surf perch, croakers, and the occasional big bat ray. It all went right back in; catch and release was facilitated by the pier's proximity to Long Beach harbor and the outflow of the San Gabriel River about a half mile north. These days, local government, do-gooder organizations, and sloppy subsistence anglers have unwittingly collaborated to effectively limit fishing at this pier to a few small sections. Instead, tourists and passers-through walk to the end to eat at Ruby's and feed seagulls and Pelicans, despite signs and laws prohibiting it. There is a police substation at the base of the pier, a lifeguard station, and plenty of people watching opportunities. A large parking lot charges variably; there are other parking options for fewer bucks and more pedestrian steps. As far as my applications, the pier now serves as a turn around landmark for long San Gabriel River bike trail trips. For entertainment value, try heading inland a few blocks and hit downtown Seal Beach... A lot more charming, and a 47% lower chance of getting a big splinter in your toe. read more
This is my kind of beach town. We like coming here for walks. Especially on Main Street leading to the pier..you come across the cutest little shops and restaurants. Plus it doesn't get nearly as crowded as other beaches in this area. And even when it is crowded, it's not annoying. Love the pier. You can catch the sunset if you time it right. The air is refreshing and allows you to clear out the mind and just relax... Aaaaaaahhh. read more

This area on the pier and around the Seal Beach main street is so cool. Tons of great shops, coffee, dining experiences in all price ranges. It's a great place to walk around, take in the beach, window shop. Amazing! read more
This pier, the second largest wooden pier in California, is my favorite. Belmont Pier in Long Beach hosts fun events, and Huntington Beach Pier is practically a tourist attraction full of bros, but this pier, open late, gets high marks for being the most riff-raff free, anchoring an affluent, racially-undiverse town (much like Balboa Pier) with a 24 hour police presence and what I could only imagine are secretive bum glue traps somewhere baited with cigarette butts and malt liquor. A great place to catch the sun setting over San Pedro (especially with Cold Stone from across the street). Come in the summer and you may see the Junior Lifeguards in action, jumping off the pier. Watch pelicans dive into the water. Order something expensive at Ruby's (pier end). Ignore your kids at the pier playground. Hear a summer concert at Eisenhower Park nearby. Get a ticket for feeding the birds. Wonder if that fisherman only have one pair of pants. Stick your elbows in bird poop watching the surfers. There's lots to do! I especially like to erase the R from the word POOR on the surf report chalkboard. (giggle). read more
Not much to the pier itself at the moment since the restaurant at the very end burned down some time ago. It was a Ruby's restaurant I believe? Still the pier is open to do some leisurely strolling or pass the time doing some off the pier fishing (in the designated areas of course). The actual beach is not that big but its perfect on a summer day like today. Had a great time being a local tourist in beautiful Seal Beach this afternoon. If you're ever in the area, find a spot to park and try some of the local spots for dining and drinking. Everything looked very welcoming. Cheers! read more
Over the weekend, we watched a couple of our friends get married at nearby Eisenhower Park, and after lunch, several of us decided to take a hike down to Seal Beach Pier to walk off the calories and enjoy the afternoon. Like the Oceanside Pier, this area has some beautiful views of the ocean and the beach. There's pay telescopes on the sides of the pier, and in certain areas, you can even feel the waves building underneath! Also, I couldn't help but take a selfie with the seal statue nearby. Unfortunately, the end of the pier has been fenced off, so we couldn't go all the way to the end like we wanted. Still, a nice way to celebrate our friends' wedding day! read more

I came here around 8pm on a Tuesday night. It was still bright outside with the sun setting in the background. It was so beautiful and surprisingly not cold! It was definitely windier on the pier, but a good walk. Here are some key notes about this beach. Parking: If you come after 6pm, the parking is free and no time limit. If you come before 6pm, it is only 2 hour parking. It's on Main Street, so just drive around until you find one. It was not hard to find parking during the 8pm time slot. Walking: The pier was a great 10 minute walk back and forth. You get a nice view of the sun setting under the city buildings. There was also an island I think in the midst with palm trees haha After we were done walking on the pier, we just continued walking on the pathway from the playground towards the fenced area. I would definitely come back next time during the day, since there were so many little stores, boutiques, and restaurants nearby! read more
What a surprise! After eating at a nearby restaurant with high Yelp ratings, we took a stroll toward the Seal Beach Pier. By walking down the street, we were able to view all of the restaurants and bars and also check their Yelp rating. I was surprised at how clean the beach and pier were. There were also several volleyball courts in the sand and necessary facilities. It was a beautiful afternoon, and I look forward to making an entire day of it in the future. read more

My whole life I've usually only visited the San Diego beaches and never went outside that county. I came to Seal Beach with the family to pass the time and I must say this is one of the best beaches I've been to so far. The beach itself is really clean and well maintained. The sand is really soft, almost feels like powder so it's easy on your feet. The waves are not that strong, but they are very constant. I took the family down the pier and it's such a beautiful view from the top. From what I hear it's a nice place to go fishing. This beach also has a small but nice playground for the kids right next to the pier. Parking is inexpensive as well in this beach. I paid $4 for 2 hours, which to me compared to other places is a good deal. It also doesn't get as packed with people so that's another plus. Great beach overall and will make it one of my top beaches to visit. read more

Seal Beach Pier is my favorite SoCal pier to date, even though this may be premature as I have not been to all of them... yet. I most recently went here on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at around 11 a.m. Not crowded at all. Not too hot. Not chilly either (& I am cold-natured.) Parking... is plentiful during the week day at least when we went. Self-pay parking meters are available in the lots by the beach. Street parking too. The nearby playground... is so cool for your lil ones. As if the splashing September waves & sandy beach wasn't enough! There are public restrooms nearby too... right next to it actually. Cool military memorials & more at the beginning of the pier. No more Ruby's diner at the end! It's blocked off. What are their plans? The last I heard or read about was the city hiring an engineer for a possible new two-story restaurant: http://www.presstelegram.com/business/20140508/seal-beach-plans-to-hire-engineering-consultant-to-study-piers-ability-to-handle-two-story-restaurant. Mostly clean pier with some trash here & there, but mainly from the fisherpeople. The signs say "don't feed the pigeons," but they should say don't feed the birds because seagulls and other birds are just as ornery. Fishing is allowed, but overhead casting is not, of course. It's a nice, low-key area with some eateries and other mom and pop shops nearby. The beach seemed clean. If you have a stroller or a wheelchair to push, know that there is a ramp which is accessible on one side of the parking lots. Very nice locals. Can't wait to be back. Review #279 read more

All piers are beautiful on their own way. And this one is not different. Can get very crowded on weekends, so I try to come duting the week. Nice walk by the water, or walk along the pier, fun and mind cleaning/clearing is guaranteed. If you ask me, not ot be missed. Not Santa Monica style, and worth a visit. read more

This is a small beach and half is currently under construction. Very nice pier to walk out on...looks like they are renovating it as well. The place is a great place to watch sunsets and the parking is FREE for 2 hours. watch your time because the POLICE do!! I would certain go back for a swim here. A navy ship was docked in the distance which was pretty cool. read more

Reminds me of a more peaceful, less crazy HB and PB. Pier is a lot better maintained than the Crystal Pier (PB) in San Diego. You can walk on it without worrying that you'll fall through one of the planks. Seems more sturdy. Stretches out into the ocean further. Restaurants and bars in the area---all within walking distance. Reminds me of why I love California. read more
Yes, this is my favorite pier in Orange County and yes, I am biased because Seal Beach is my hometown. It used to be classified as one of the longest plank piers in Southern California, but I am not sure if it still holds this distinction. My parents have lived for over 40 years in this town. I love that the downtown area still maintains it's quaintness and Old Town charm. I love walking the pier in the early morning, watching the surfers out in the water and seeing the sun rise. It is equally beautiful here, being out here on the pier, to see the sun set. The pier has undergone many changes over the years, most recently due to the fire at the end of it that burned down Ruby's :/ I have been out here in dangerous, crazy stormy weather that has shot the waves up and over the pier. It is amazing what this structure is built to withstand. Walking the pier and seeing fishermen reel in their catches is fun, too. People are friendly and eager to show you what they have landed. I have watched in amazement seeing the junior lifeguards train by jumping off the pier and swim to the jetty and back. I have come here alone to exercise or for quiet contemplation and have also brought countless friends and family here visiting to walk after a big meal at Beachwood BBQ, O'Malley's or Walt's Wharf or after ice cream on Main Street. This is one of my favorite places in my hometown because it holds countless memories for me. Come say hi to Slick the Seal and the foot of the pier here, and you can see beautiful views of Seal Beach, Long Beach and the Pacific and hopefully find out why many people find it so special. read more

Compared to other piers Seal Beach Pier is a must visit one. It is quiet and calm unlike Santa Monica Pier with its noisy atmosphere. You can really say it's a walk in the Pier lol Very quiet and safe, Seal Beach Pier leaves you speechless. read more

Great place to go if you are looking for a romantic/dating place! I like how the pier is long that you will get a great view of Hollywood and the beach. We couldn't go to the tip top of the house in the pier cause it was close. No sigh or anything saying when they will open again. Kinda disappointed about that. Also you can tell the beach sand is less than it was. (Cause of global warming!) So it was a bit heart breaking to notice. :( I hope they open the pier house again soon and I will visit again next year! read more

Nice spot for the kids because it has a park for them to play. The peir is long so it's a great walk. Water is pretty. Lots of places to eat on main Street. read more

Now with everything starting to reopen (as of 05/15/21), does anyone know if the pier is open for night fishing again from 10pm to 6am?
I was there last week, and the sign stated that fishing was still only until 10pm. I'm not positive, but I'm guessing it's still that way.

I've actually seen some on weekdays when nobody is around. Some will swim around the surfers.
Are dogs allowed?
There's a sign that says no dogs allowed on the pier but that doesn't seem to stop anybody. I guess do it at your own risk.
Do they allow fishing there? Does it close at night?
Yes, they allow fishing. The pier closes at 10 PM.
Lost my GoPro hero 5 session a few days ago with a head strap. Has anyone came across one so far? =(
Try checking with the local police or lifeguard stations at the pier to see if someone might have turned it in. Best of luck!
Can you fish here?
Yes you can. There are many people who fish here daily and because it's a public pier, no fishing license is required. The pier has benches as well as fish cleaning stations.
