Luis A. Herrera NP…read more It is with grave and unambiguous seriousness that I submit this formal statement of concern regarding the individual presently purporting to provide medical services under the designation of nurse. The conduct observed in this matter does not merely fail to meet the minimal professional standards required of a healthcare practitioner. It shatters them entirely and in so doing renders this individual manifestly unfit to be entrusted with the care of any human being. Let us dispense with euphemism. This individual has no business whatsoever practicing medicine in any capacity, advisory or otherwise. The incident in question concerns a patient suffering the documented and distressing consequences of poisoning attributable to a physician presently affiliated with the very same facility in which this nurse operates. Rather than responding to such circumstances with the measured urgency, clinical insight, and ethical responsibility befitting his station, the individual elected instead to adopt an attitude of extraordinary negligence and callous disregard. When the patient, with sound and reasonable cause, requested appropriate referrals for specialist evaluation and relevant diagnostic testing, both fundamental pillars of proper medical practice, this nurse flatly refused. No testing was ordered. No referral was made. No remedial or investigative step of any meaningful kind was taken. The patient was effectively abandoned to their own suffering, left to contend with the physiological consequences of another practitioner's malpractice without the safeguard of competent intervention. Compounding this reckless indifference, the nurse saw fit to recommend that the patient consume an excessive daily dosage of a common analgesic, far exceeding safe limits. This recommendation, made with the casualness of a man prescribing a glass of water, reveals a shocking ignorance of the most rudimentary pharmacological principles. Any medical professional, even one barely acquainted with the discipline, should be aware that exceeding safe daily dosage can lead to irreversible liver damage. That this nurse was not only unaware or worse unconcerned, but willing to prescribe such a regimen, is a mark of gross incompetence. Yet perhaps most damning of all was his refusal to cooperate with the patient's licensed psychologist in the preparation and submission of grievance documentation. Rather than acknowledging the severity of the matter and facilitating due process, this individual stonewalled entirely. Such conduct does not merely reflect arrogance. It obstructs lawful recourse, depriving the patient of their legitimate right to file an ethical complaint and seek redress through proper channels. It is an affront to procedural justice and it cannot under any circumstance be excused or dismissed. A medical provider who demonstrates such indifference to patient suffering, ignorance of basic medical chemistry, and contempt for accountability mechanisms is not a healer. He is, at best, a liability in scrubs and at worst, a danger to every vulnerable person who walks through that clinic's doors. Empathy is not a luxury in medicine. It is a requirement, every bit as vital as pharmacological competence or diagnostic acumen. Without it, one is not merely inadequate. They are unfit. It is therefore my considered position that this individual should be immediately barred from further patient contact pending a full and formal investigation. At a minimum, his professional qualifications, clinical decision making, and ethical fitness must be scrutinized under the most unforgiving light. Anything less would constitute a dereliction of duty on the part of those charged with protecting patients from precisely this sort of harm. The practice of medicine is not a hobby. It is not a pastime. It is a profound trust granted to those who have demonstrated both competence and compassion. This individual has demonstrated neither.

I'm only giving two stars because of the "wait time." If you are in this area and need medical…read moreattention, just plan on the "wait." But you will get seen and you will get adequate care. This is a non-profit medical center. Whatever that means. If you don't have health insurance, they have a "sliding scale" option. However, since a certain Congressional legislation was implemented, not sure how this "sliding scale" is going to work. They are not a "walk-in" clinic, but I did manage to get a "same day" appointment. I called at 8:00 right at opening, and was on hold for five minutes. Hmmmmmm.......... They keep a whiteboard hanging where they notify people of the wait time. At the time I came in, it was blank. However, at the 30 minute waiting point, I inquired as to why there was no information on the white board. The desk person said, "we usually wait for them to tell us" but she decided to go inquire. She then wrote "50 minutes" as the wait time. At exactly the 50 minute point (50 minutes past my appointment time), I was seen. There is a sign that says, "if you have been waiting past 15 minutes, inform someone." But the medical tech that took my vitals indicated that sign is pointless as they routinely run late. 50 minutes is the "norm." I have to give them a "thumbs up" for the fact that they did NOT ask for my SS number. There is no legal reason health care providers need your SS number.

They don't do outside labs which is really discouraging because it's 30 minutes away to get labs…read moredrawn. I would think for being the only clinic in town they should be able to draw outside labs.
