I called here earlier today because I needed something on one of my Air Force uniforms for an event for tomorrow. Since there isn't really an Air Force Base here I wasn't really sure where to get anything done and ensure that it got done correctly and according to our normal uniform regulations. After calling here I asked if they could show something on my uniform but I needed it today for an event tomorrow . The girl was really polite and said it should be about six dollars but she'd have to look at what needs to get done to give her proper estimate and I'd probably be better off just bring it. So my fiancé and I decided just bring it in real quick and see if it was possible to get it done in time that we needed. Once we brought my uniform and she told me that yes they could take the ring from my shirt and throw it that rank onto my dress uniform. They charge me $20 for a ticket get done right in that moment. To be honest that's the cheapest I've been able to get my uniform done that quickly without having to wait and having them also take the rank off of the previous uniform. Some places will charge you less if you use a sea ripper and get the rink off yourself but we didn't want to deal with all of that. The other woman who I'm guessing is the owner was also very friendly and made sure that everything was done accordingly. While we were waiting several other customers came in and we're very happy about the service that they were getting as well so this is definitely going to be my new go to spot while I live in Milwaukee for anything uniform or alteration needed. I reached out to have some buttonholes professionally put in a shirt. The girl who was there at the counter had an older woman come out, who I assume is the owner. They charged us an outrageous amount for 4 buttonholes-$8each and then a rush fee to pick up in week. I wasn't able to reach them by phone because it was shut off, the staff was rude, and when I picked up the shirt the buttonholes looked like some homemade craft sewing. We have come here several times in years past for reasonably priced work. This time prices were high and workers both were rude. Although work on one dress did turn out better than I was thinking it would, work on another was fair at best. Won't come back because of very poor customer service. I came here for alterations on my MOH dress for my friend's wedding. They were able to take me in last minute (15 minutes) before closing and they were very friendly even though it was close to closing time for them. I was upfront about how I would need the alterations done within a few days and they were totally fine with that. They mentioned it would be a fee for a "rush" job since it was less than their 7 - 10 day turn around which I was okay with and the fee was not bad at all. They did a fantastic job with alterations and the dress was hung nicely in the garment bag and looked like it had been steamed / pressed. They will be my go to place for any alterations in the future (including my upcoming wedding). read more

Usually, they do decent work, but I just put a jacket in with them that I wanted them to sew a number of patches on. It came back with fabric glue bleed out all over. This is the second time I had come in for formal dress alterations. The first time I had come the price was extremely reasonable, the younger woman only charged me $55 for a hem and one strap adjustment. She was extremely kind and helpful since the dress had already been altered elsewhere and he had done poor work. The second time (roughly a year apart) I was seen by an older woman who charged $85 for just the hem. Bride also wants dresses touching the floor, but she said it was better to do it slightly higher, the employee didn't really give me an option. I find it slightly scammy to have such a drastic difference in price. I did have the alterations done with the shoes and my floor length dress is now just over 2 inches from the floor. They also charge to look at a dress even if you don't have them alter it! So save your time and money and go elsewhere, unless the kinder younger women are working that day! read more

I'm extremely happy with the quality of work from SSP. I brought in an old leather jacket that needed a new zipper and repairs to the sleeve and pocket. After discussing my options, and a thorough explanation of the best approach to said repairs, I was satisfied with the plan. Took in two long formal dresses to be hemmed. It was three layers total and I was charged $120, I paid in cash so it didn't have the card charge. The women who work here are very knowledgeable and great at what they do. My dresses were hanging on the hangers when I picked them and in perfect condition. It was a one week turnaround which was shocking to me as I am used to alteration shops taking at least two weeks. read more

This place is fabulous. I had a zipper that needed to to be replaced on a fleece jacket. I initially went to my local drycleaner and asked them how much it would cost to replace or fix this. They weren't really sure because they had to send it out, but the estimate was somewhere in the area of $40. But they gave me the name of seems sew perfect. I went there, and Kathleen fixed it while I waited for $15. And I got to play with her puppy while I waited! I'll definitely be returning back to this place for all my alterations, sewing or repair needs. read more

I recently bought a snowsuit that was unfortunately too long in the torso. After calling multiple places and being turned away, I found this shop and I'm so thankful I did! I received it back today and it fits like a glove! The lining looks very good and the outer seams are excellent! On their website the reviews are great. Do your research! I've learned a hard lesson :( Now that I've looked on Yelp and Google at other customers warnings, I have so much regret going to this place! It's obvious that there's something "off" here. The owner didn't even smile or welcome me when I walked in- just stared at me. I had a bad feeling to begin with but I wanted to fix my clothes. After having them alter brand new skirts, they were both so poorly done I felt sick. I never would have expected such a low quality job, especially after the 30 plus years experience the owner boasts in. I tried to explain to the owner that something looked "off" about the skirts and that I didn't like the fit- she called me "hippy," then her and her daughter pressured me to leave them saying they could "steam out the problem." I should have followed my gut but the owner is over confident and intimidating. She also charged me for a zipper that was never replaced (what I ordered). She only replaced the metal clasp that you hold and charged me $25. This place lacks integrity. Read the other Yelp and Google reviews. Someone with character would never have such concerning experiences. I was hoping that if I went to the best seamstress in Milwaukee ( also the nicest woman you will ever meet) she'd be able to fix them- but she was absolutely appalled by the work done by "Seams So Perfect." She explained that there was no way to fix the damage they had caused. They botched my skirts with crooked stitching at an unexplainable angle which made the entire skirts uneven- beyond repair. They even sewed up my pockets (which I clearly said that I loved!) and left no fabric to fix anything. The sweet professional shared anyone who knows what they're doing would never do that. Im so thankful for this amazing interaction- she redeemed my seamstress experience . But I'm out the cost of my two linen skirts and the cost for an unprofessional job. Seams so perfect but it's not. Lacking in customer service skills . My advice is Don't pay for work ahead of time. Be crystal clear what you are wanting them to do and read the receipt before leaving. They're so arrogant they think they couldn't possible make an error so they tried blaming me for their screw up. Only after threatening to call the police and to leave a review here to get my money back. Not to mention the woman said she was keeping the 2.00 Change for wasting her time! Who says that to a customer and why argue with an unhappy customer in front of other customers yet on top of that ? Just bad customer service all the way around here. It would have been so simple just to fix the problem , which they did offer by the way , but wanted me to pay them again! All this for 3 button holes that were put in vertically instead of the right way being horizontal. I would have been a customer for life had they not chosen to berate me and make it seem like such a big deal instead just fixing the issue at hand and making me the customer happy. My experience with this business owner is literally one of the more unsettling interactions I've ever had with another person. I stopped in to see about having a zipper replaced on a boot of mine. Kathleen quoted me a price of $55.00 for this. Pricey, but I agreed to do the work there despite this. She showed me 2 zippers as options- a black one that would clash with my brown boot and was significantly larger than the original zipper, and a flimsy brown one that would likely not last 2 days on the boot-Neither one really fit the bill, but at this point I just wanted the work done so I could wear them again with the snow coming. I told her I'd go with the black one. She took my last name and phone number on a slip and said I would have to pay in advance for the work. I was not comfortable doing this, but I did. On the way home, I started having second thoughts about how the boot would look with either of the options she gave: for the price I would expect to be fully happy in the end and realized I just would NOT be with those options. I called the store immediately when I got home to cancel the order. I let her know I would be by either later that day or the following day to pick up the boot and asked her to process the refund since we wouldn't be proceeding with the work. She was not happy about me canceling so she slipped in that there would be a $ 5.00 "counter fee". I was a little taken aback and asked her to explain what it was as I literally had just left her store. No work of any kind had even been started. "Payment for her time", she said....Um, excuse me? Had she spent long hours taking countless measurements? Had she turned away countless customers so she could research the history of French seaming technique for me? Had she performed any service whatsoever for me? No. She wrote down my name and phone number on a slip. That's literally it. In fact, we spent longer talking about the dog that jumped up into my face as I walked into the store than she did helping me with anything. (I would have taken the same amount of her time had I called her on the phone for a quote. Does she have a fee for calling for information too?! )Long story short, she was going to be charging me this arbitrary "counter fee"- which is tacky at best and criminal at worst. She said she would refund the payment minus this "counter fee" as soon as we got off the phone. Fast forward to returning to the store. I checked to see if she had issued the refund before going in - no refund. I went in to once again request the refund and collect my boots. I asked her where I might be able to see her "counter fee" policy posted. She seemed shocked that I asked her to show me and again explain what it was exactly I was paying for. She very defensively and aggressively pulled her dressing room curtain back and pointed to a sign that was lurking behind it. The sign referred to alterations fees. Ok. Alterations require some degree of time and work - measurements, etc. Sure, that's understandable...But this wasn't an alteration, remember. She wrote down my name and phone number. That was all. As I continued to request an explanation as to what she was charging me for, she got increasingly hostile, literally raging at me in front of my daughter and another customer. At one point 2 of them were even screaming at my daughter who stepped in to ask them not to yell at me. Needless to say, she crossed bounds that a business owner with an ounce of sense would never dream of crossing. At this time she is holding my $5.00 hostage, plus a 3% fee put on top for the card transaction. This establishment will leave a bad, bad taste in your mouth. Please consider supporting another local business that will treat you as you deserve to be treated - with respect. This place engages in trashy business practices and becomes belligerent at customers who reasonably request explanations of those unethical practices. read more

I've been going to Seams Sew Perfect over the past 30 years and have always found Kathy, the owner, and her staff to be pleasant. Kathy has always listened to what I needed to be done, and the work was and has ALWAYS been done correctly, for what I consider to be fair pricing. I've been to other alterations stores and have been sorely disappointed. Seams Sew Perfect is the only place I go for sewing that needs to be done, and I highly recommend its services. As far as reviews stating Kathy was rude, I've never had issue with her or her staff. She's human, maybe bad day, I don't know. I had one dress altered there because my long time tailor shop closed. The owner is very brash and rude. I witnessed her yelling at another older customer as he was trying to pay because he was moving too slowly and asking too many questions. I was uncomfortable almost immediately, but I just paid and left. When I came back to pick up my dress, I brought a coat I wanted tailored. When I was trying to ask her questions and show her some things I wanted altered, she yelled at me and said, "Stop talking and let me do my job!" I am disabled (which I told her right away) and so I couldn't hold my arm exactly the way she wanted and she got very exasperated and started sighing loudly. When I went to pay and she was explaining to me when my item would be finished and I was trying to put a note in my calendar on my phone and she raised her voice and said, "Pay attention so you don't have to call to ask when your item will be done!" Then when she told me my total, I said, "Just a minute please because I was still trying to put the date in my calendar in my phone when my item would be done, she said, "I'm very busy! Tell me when you're ready!" and she left the counter and went in the back. After this exchange, I had had it and I went and grabbed my coat as I didn't want to come back here. She rushed out from the back as I was leaving and blocked the door so I was unable to leave. When I told her I had changed my mind because I was uncomfortable, she said I was very rude. I have NEVER encountered anyone so rude in my life! I would give her 0 stars if I could! It's really her loss since I spend between $50-$250/ month on tailoring. read more

I don't even want to give this place a 1 star. I went for a fitting for my prom dress but I found a different place that had better reviews and lower prices so I changed my mind and went there. When I went to go pick up they were trying to charge me $10 for a fitting fee, there was a few random signs that I had seen but did not read. The lady told me that it was a fitting fee and the $10 was for all the time the wasted on my dress, it took them 5 mins to stick some pins in it. The lady that I talked to was insisting it took her 30 mins. I wanted an inch of my dress Sewn it was going to be $15 alone. There was a young girl that was just rude. When I told the lady that they should really discuss that to their customers, she said multiple people say the same thing, so why don't change something??When I was walking out the younger girl that was giving me my dress just threw it at me and told me she hopes I get what I pay for. I had a special circumstance when I came to Kathleen at Seams Sew Perfect. I was getting married in 4 weeks and my dress was almost 2 sizes too big. Kathleen was extremely accommodating. We clicked instantly and she even went above and beyond and ordered me a belt on her amazon account so it would be delivered quicker. I went back multiple times and she was always accommodating when setting up appointments, she even stayed past posted hours the night I came in to make sure she could help. I can definitely tell she is passionate about her work and my dress fit like a glove. I had so many compliments it was amazing. Terrible customer service. I called today to ask about last minute minor alterations on a bridal gown, fully expecting to pay any rush fees for the inconvenience of having to do a short notice job. (My wedding is The 15th, but I recently bought the dress as I just had a baby and wanted to wait to get my dress until after) The first woman I had spoken to, the daughter of the owner, was very sweet and helpful. When I spoke to the seamstress who specializes in gowns, it was a whole other story. She was rude, and incredibly unhelpful. I wasn't even able to finish a sentence without her interrupting with another snappy remark or question; "So WHAT are you asking me about?" My mother had an appointment for alterations on her mother of the Bride dress, so I called her to ask her opinion on the baseline prices I was given and to all about her appointment time to try to coordinate us being there together. I told her that the woman I had spoken to, Kathleen, didn't seem very interested in helping, but I thought maybe I had read her wrong and gave her the benefit of the doubt. My mom called, to explain that the alterations necessary were more minor, pinning back cap sleeves and possibly adding buttons for a bustle if the seamstress was able. Kathleen told her, "I just spoke with your daughter and I was PRETTY clear about what was needed." My mom explained that maybe I wasn't clear on what was needed, so she wanted to make sure she knew that we didn't need the sleeves completely redone or anything like that. She refused to give her a price estimate, as "There's no point in even discussing prices with you until I see the dress", which we completely understood but she was asking for the baseline prices for the services we needed, not the prices specific to the dress. After about 10 minutes of my mom trying to talk and not being able to get a word in without being interrupted by a rude comment, she asked to speak with the initial saleswoman that she had scheduled her appointment with. Kathleen told her, "Well, she's my daughter so I don't know where you think you're going to get by talking to her. I'm the OWNER of this place." to which my mom told her that considering that, she would like to cancel her appointment because she couldn't imagine giving her business to such an unpleasant person. The response? "Ma'am, what do you WANT from me? I'm not even supposed to BE HERE today." My mom just asked her to cancel her appointment, and hung up before "the owner of this place" embarrassed herself even further. I'm not sure how you keep a business with such a terrible attitude towards your customers, but you just lost several hundred dollars in sales considering I had mentioned to all of my bridesmaids that they could go to Seams Sew Perfect for their alterations, and I have now called to tell them about how horrible our experience was and that we will find somewhere else. Maybe the owner could take a couple lessons from her daughter, who was nothing but pleasant, sweet and helpful. read more

I prefer to patronize small businesses since I own one myself. I took a dress in a bag to be altered. The young girl was pleasant and efficient in marking the alterations. I had it hemmed and the sleeves taken up a bit. I know this type of work can be tedious and costly. I didn't know it would be 65 dollars and that I had to pay upfront. When I came back to get my dress, I met 2 ladies and a dog. The dog jumped up on my and I was surprised by that. The ladies did not tell the dog to get down or put him away in the back. I am very allergic to dogs. Then they proceeded to look for my dress. They finally found it and handed it to me all balled up in the same bag that I brought it in. As I stood there in a bit of shock to not see my dress on a hanger, one of the ladies told me "I was free to go" "you can go now you are free to go". I felt like they were a bit rude and were laughing as one of the ladies kept telling me to go. I left and went out to my car wondering what had just happened in there. It was a very odd experience. I left and thought for minute as I sat in my car. Then I looked at the dress. It was all wrinkled . I proceeded to go back in and ask if it could be put on a hanger and if it was pressed. The lady I think her name was (Katherine) told me that " you get your garment back the way you brought it in". I never heard of such a thing. I said" I at least thought you could put it on a hanger" and again she said "if you bring it in a bag you get it in a bag". she then said "I would have to buy a ton of hangers if I put everything on a hanger." I asked if she could press it and she said she would for $20 dollars. I told her no that I had already spent 65 dollars . I just took my husbands sport coat to the dry cleaners in the same area and carried it in. I got it back on a hanger in a plastic bag. I expected the same for the dress. After all it is just good customer service and how much can a hanger cost. I am sorry to say I will not be going back to this business, and I will be telling the story to other people. Awful customer service. Will never return. Months later this still pisses me off so I made a yelp account to review. Surprise, surprise, there are other reviews about how nasty the owner is. A couple months ago, mid October, I came in asking if I could have a quote for an alteration done on a formal dress. The young girl, clearly her daughter, at the counter was so sweet and helpful and we had a nice conversation but when I spoke to the older woman Kathleen she was so rude! I just had a couple questions about the alteration process and what a baseline price would be and if she could add cap sleeves and hem a bit since it was a late fall wedding. I'm all about a bargain so when I told her what they were charging down the street if she could match their price she wouldn't give me a clear quote until the job was done. When I asked why she said "Would you JUST let me do my job? I'm the owner here, I've been doing this for YEARS and I know what I'm doing and what prices cost." She got loud and kept throwing her arms up in the air like she couldn't stand to even talk to me. She wouldn't LISTEN and kept interrupting me when I tried to speak. I couldn't get a word in without being interrupted by a rude comment or a snippy remark. Lady, you should be bending over backwards for business not getting pissy when customers have questions. I walked out almost in tears from anger and cause I was so shocked at how quickly this lady's mood changed. What is wrong with her? You need some prozac lady. I took my business down the street on Forest the same day and they were able to add cap sleeves and hem within 24 hours. the man there said they gets customers all the time that tell him about their bad experience at this place. It's like she was offended that I was just getting a quote. Getting a quote doesn't mean you're getting my business. How is this place still open with that kind of attitude toward customers? Maybe you should let your daughter run the place so she can actually keep a paying job. I'm not sure how anyone can stand to work with you or how you keep any customers. read more

I have had numerous embroidery projects done here as well as alterations. The young lady that does the embroidery is terrific. She has done larger, but mostly small projects, like embroidering the name of a rock band on a baseball cap. I've always been super satisfied with the work, and the prices are reasonable. Her mother (sorry I don't know their names) altered a suit for me that was seams perfect. Excellent work!
