When it comes to a wedding dress, something you spend so much time and effort (and money) picking out, you want to trust alterations to someone who has seen it all and can do it all. You want P'Dia. Had to go in for several quick fittings as they worked through the stages of altering my intricate dress (shortening straps, tightening bust, taking up the bottom hem, adding a bustle - all while working around lace appliqués and beading!), and they were always so kind, and are just the nicest people to work with. Their shop itself is not necessarily glamorous, but it gets the job done right! Highly recommend! Note: parking can be difficult in that neighborhood so allow for extra time. And, they sometimes have a "window dog" in the shop. As someone who is highly allergic to dogs though, I never once had symptoms or saw a single dog hair about and in fact, barely even noticed it was there. They also helped me take a video of how to do my bustle and understand step by step instructions for my MOH so she could execute beautifully on our wedding day. Our son was recently married, and as the mother of the groom I wasn't going to take any chances on the alteration of my dress. To complicate matters, we live in a small community about 5 hours north of Milwaukee, and the one and only seamstress in the area was taking a hiatus. With less than a month before the wedding I made the decision to find a seamstress in Milwaukee that I could meet with, then leave my dress there and pick up when I returned, just days before the wedding. A little nerve racking if there had been a problem with it. I chose P'Dia based on the proximity to our wedding accommodations and her 5 star reviews and I'm SO happy that I did - the absolute best decision! Diane and her husband are exceptional people in every sense, and man can that woman sew! I was bring the dress in for a hem, but as soon as I put it on, she immediately picked up on the fact that the shoulders needed a fix. I guess I knew that, but didn't think that sort of reconstruction was possible in such a short amount of time. She pinned it up and assured me everything would be ready by my pick-up date. Three weeks later, I was back in town, I called before stopping in and Paul said, yes - the dress is ready for pick-up. I once again tried the dress on and it was perfect, well near perfect. There was still a little gapping at the front of my arm pits. Diane says, no worries, she pulls out her trusty pins, takes a couple of tucks, I slipped the dress off, she ran two additional darts for me, had it pressed and back on me in the time it would have taken me to change the thread in my machine. The dress fit like a glove! Overall my experience was generally very good. I finally got my wedding dress months after ordering of course, but had to leave for a long work trip soon and they managed to get my first fitting in before I left a few days later which was great. The actual alterations also turned out really well. Diane did a great job taking in the waist and hips and even some of the illusion lace at the back where it was gapping without any noticeable seams or anything. The bustle also ended up looking great but it caused some trouble. Now for the one star deduction- we scheduled my pick up for Thursday evening 6pm since I was leaving for my wedding Friday morning. We'd already had one fitting about bustling but decided it needed to be taken up more. First they called earlier in the day asking if I could come at 6:30 instead which was totally fine. When I arrived though the whole family was there waiting to go out to a birthday dinner which made me feel like I was holding them up even though it was not my request to push the time back! Then at that fitting it became clear the bustle still wasn't right so Diane had to do a really quick fix so I could pick it up the next morning before I left. It ended up looking great and they got it done early in the morning, but it's a stressful time to have multiple fittings and add more errands to do the day before the wedding. That aside though I would definitely still recommend any bride I know to come here because the end result was great. read more

If you're getting married and you realize you should wear a suit instead of jeans, then realize that you probably need to get it tailored because you have such a slender figure, Diane can help you in a pinch. I'm not saying this happened to me but I'm also not saying this didn't. I'm saying hypothetically if you happen to call up a week and a half before your wedding and try squeeze in a fitting, she'll be flexible. Hypothetically, she would also get you in day of and finish your altering within a week. Though this may cost extra, you can count on it to be quality work. This is a popular shop downtown and it is one that has been around for years. Diane has 40 years worth of tailoring experience and many people know her for the stellar work she does. During peak wedding season or peak winter season it can get busy. Sometimes up to a 3 weeks wait. I had two suits tailored here. My one issue came with my second suit when my pants weren't properly hemmed. I stuck my leg in and it immediately became disconnected. Diane fixed it right there, which was great. For my first visit, I'm definitely impressed. Helpful tips: -Call to schedule a fitting in advance -Prepare for a 2-3 week wait unless you want to pay for rush service -Bring the shoes you want tailored to your pants I have quite a few things that need altering, so I'll be back. I brought my wedding dress to Diane for some serious alterations. Not only did she make it fit me like a glove, the prices were completely reasonable. Before you brush this off as just another review, let me provide a little backstory. This was not an off the rack David's Bridal gown--we are talking an $11,000 Vera Wang haute couture that fell into my hands at a sample sale. I was swimming in it, but the price was so amazing I couldn't pass it up. The dress was easily four sizes too big, with a bodice covered in alencon lace. Essentially, this was a recipe for wedding gown alteration disaster; everything you read says don't try to go down more than three sizes with a lace bodice and even that is pushing it. And if you do, you'll make up what you saved on the up-front cost in alteration charges. But the price was right, so I took a gamble. Diane scoffed at the idea that it couldn't be done, and got right to it without batting an eyelash. I think I paid maybe $150 for the whole thing (!?!?!?) which is much less than what other seamstresses were quoting me. And certainly put my net cost for the gown no where NEAR the original price. She was professional, quick, and willing to work within my insane work schedule. If you are looking for someone to perfect the most important dress you'll ever wear, look no further. read more

So far the best tailor/alterations I've found in Milwaukee. One thing that really impressed me about her business savvy was that she was familiar with every Yelp review about her place. Very personable ebullient woman who properly tailored my new but cheap suit, and a properly tailored cheap suit actually looks better than an improperly tailored expensive suit, if you're an overweight man. If you're a thin man, well any suit looks good on you, even double breasted, and please don't stand near me. Because there's a shortage of this profession in town, she's got a somewhat long turnaround time, though she was done exactly when promised. Just make your appointment well in advance of any event, and I think she's your choice for formal or ceremonial wear, new business or work outfits. She does custom dresses, I don't have any way of assessing her skills in that area. read more

This woman works wonders! I had bought a beautiful long beaded dress for my engagement party that was a little loose to begin with. As the date got closer and my stress level got higher- I dropped weight.. a lot of weight. Usually this would make me happy, but not when you have a dress you're set on that needs to fit. I took it to a handful of people to see what I can do with it, and mostly everyone said they would not be able to work with it since it's all beaded. I had never had to use a tailor in Milwaukee in the two years I've lived here, but I needed some suits altered. I tried to find reviews on yelp and other similar services and didn't find much. So, on a whim, I consulted the yellow pages and found that The Tailor Shop was close to me. So, I brought in my suits to see if they could be altered to fit me after losing 60 pounds and getting some hand-me-downs. And boy am I glad that I did. Diane is the tailor here and she does a great job for a reasonable price. I had lots of work done to two suits (jacket altered, waist brought in on pants, and cuffs added to pants) and the total was about $130- she also offers discounts for students. I came in here after reading the reviews to get a bridesmaid dress severely altered after the dress shop made the wedding party get very oversized dresses. I was extremely happy with how everything turned out - she and her husband were very friendly and even knew which dress was mine when i came for pick yp though i had met them for less than 5 minutes a month earlier. The fitting took less than 5 minutes and the price was way less than I was expecting ($55) considering the amount of alterations that had to be done (she said she had to take the dress in 7 inches or roughly 3 sizes) and you couldn't even tell the dress had anything done to it. I stopped in there on a Friday afternoon to ask about getting some leather work done. I have a nice sheepskin jacket which the pocket had torn from the stitching. Well, after talking to the gal for a few minutes, she told me to stop in the following Thursday to get it done. Come Thursday, I drop off my jacket for her to repair. About two hours later, the shop rings me up and says it's ready. It was very well repaired with extra stitching. All it cost was $10, too! Now, this is a $1,200 replica WWII B-3 Bomber Jacket. I was a bit nervous to leave it with just anyone. But, the shop took great care with it! I may have her fix something else small on it. That can wait til spring. It's still damn cold out! read more

I brought in my strapless bridesmaid's dress to Diane for alterations. Being the first time I've ever had to wear a strapless dress, I was a bit nervous about feeling uncomfortable wearing one. Not only did Diane fit the dress to me perfectly; she made me feel like I was at a friend's house the entire time I was there. She even kept an eye out for the parking checker while I was changing (if you get to her shop before she opens at 10am, there is no parking allowed at the meters in front on Wisconsin Ave)! I cannot tell you how wonderful Diane and Perry are. I took my original wedding dress to them and Diane was completely honest in telling me that there was nothing she could do to fix it (it looked terrible when I had picked it up and I was not surprised to hear this), which told me she had integrity as others may have attempted to fix a dress that they knew was poorly made.
