If Google allowed zero stars, that is what I would give Sean McCutcheon's Air Conditioning. As a business owner, I rarely leave negative reviews. I understand businesses make mistakes, but this was not one bad day. It was a prolonged series of failures, excuses and expenses that placed our home closing at risk. In November 2024, Sean McCutcheon's installed two new Bryant air-conditioning systems for $28,399. Their written proposal specifically included "permit and inspection by local municipality" and stated that a second day would be required for the inspection. Nearly two years later, while selling our home, we discovered that the permit had never been finalized and remained open. We had never been notified that an inspection was still required. The company claimed it had a note saying we were out of town when the systems were installed. That was false. I was at the house and spoke with the installer while the work was performed. The company also had my telephone number and email address. This did not explain why nobody contacted us afterward or why the permit remained unresolved for nearly two years. During the home-sale inspection process, kinked ductwork restricting airflow, significant moisture and visible organic growth in the HVAC areas--including on or around the equipment--were identified. Sean McCutcheon's had maintained the systems under its paid maintenance program. Despite repeated access to the equipment, none of these visible conditions had been documented or brought to our attention. Had we been told, we would have addressed them immediately. The company said checking the ductwork was not its responsibility and claimed its technicians had never seen the visible organic growth. Yet its proposal acknowledged that the systems would be attached to existing ductwork and stated that an estimate would be provided if duct modifications were needed. No such warning, recommendation or estimate was presented during installation or later maintenance visits. Because closing was approaching, we paid Sean McCutcheon's another $1,975 to repair the ductwork and approximately $6,000 to another company to remove and remediate the organic growth. We also hired a different company to install a whole-home dehumidification system because I would no longer allow Sean McCutcheon's to work in our home. When the municipal inspection was finally arranged, the work did not initially pass. A Sean McCutcheon's technician told me they had tried to get the prior work "grandfathered," but the inspector would not agree. Their $1,975 duct-repair invoice included commentary and theories about other conditions and possible causes that went beyond the work they were hired to perform. Because the invoice was going into our closing file, I asked for a replacement describing only the work performed. The company refused and told me changing or recreating an invoice was "impossible." As a business owner, I know businesses correct and reissue invoices every day. When I initially declined to pay until the invoice was corrected, the company contacted our real-estate attorney and stated it would not sign the affidavit needed for closing unless the $1,975 was disclosed or paid. To prevent the dispute from interfering with closing, I paid it despite objecting to the invoice's contents. At every stage, instead of taking ownership and helping solve the problem, we received another excuse, denial or deflection. Proceed with extreme caution. Independently verify that every permit has received final approval, obtain a separate evaluation of your ductwork and airflow, and inspect your attic and HVAC equipment for moisture and organic growth. Do not assume a paid maintenance program means visible problems will be identified or reported. I will never use this company again or recommend it to family, friends or anyone purchasing a major HVAC system. read more

Shitty company, would give zero stars if possible, came through where I work, had my truck parked in the spot it's in everyday and hit my truck with a company vehicle, left no contact information and left. Took way too long to complete the "investigation" on their companies end and denied liability, claimed no liability. So they will face consequences and the situation will be taken further because it seems that they are done with the investigation. To add on to that they weren't even supposed to be in the condominiums where my truck is parked for work, they came in the gate after asking maintenance to let them through and looped around hit my truck and left. Don't hire these guys unless you want careless workers to be driving vehicles they aren't able to drive correctly around your residence. Plus all the other reviews show they are dishonest people and in pricing with there standard of work holding no integrity. Don't hire these people they suck. read more

We contacted Sean McCuthcheons in May of 2025. Simple AC repair of a rusted condenser cooling fan bracket. They said part was hard to get and expensive. I live in MD this property in FL and was able to find part for 165.00-right away. I had a pesky tenant in short. SM said unit had to be replaced as it was 10 years old. The unit was a quality unit top of the line when I had put in in 2015/16. This is a seasonal rental so unit, its rented mostly winter months. With this pesky tenant I had to replace entire system as I could not get down to FL in time. In May of 2026 unit failed to cool. SM came out and said compressor was bad-part covered under warranty but not labor. Not even a full two weeks out of labor warranty and SM would not bend. I got a quote for $2855.40 to repair. I tried to call the original man who installed, tried to call company office and email. No response whatsoever. The estimate they sent via email had no phone number to call, no area to ask questions-the estimate only allowed me to say yes and schedule repair. This was Friday and I called original installer again Tuesday and office. Got secretary and asked to speak to owner for explanation. They wanted $1526.60 labor charge to replace compressor-experienced technician would take not more than 4 hours for total repair. They wanted to charge$282.20 for each lb of r-32 refrigerant. I just purcased a 20lb cylinder of r-32 for 232.14 or 11.607 per lb. Then they want to charge me a country club fee of 200.00-some bs membership. This company has no ethics or customer care. They know a person like me is limited since I am out of state. I had another company come in with a cheaper diagnostic fee and repair for 1725.90 total. This will only catch up to SM and I'm a contractor as well. This will go to BBB for starters and word of mouth in FL as well. Not even two weeks out of warrenty-and they want to screw me again-come on SM be human. read more

I had a bad experience with this company. My condo association was using this business to provide new ACs to those that requested them, while roof replacement was being done. I purchased a new AC in April of 2023 and paid an additional $1800 for a 10 warranty that included labor and parts. Four months later the AC went down, and it was the evaporator coil. The AC was down 5-6 WEEKS in July before it was repaired. Six months later, it went down again and all the Freon had leaked out of it due to faulty soldering. That repair took 8 hours. Now (July of 2024) the system went down again, and McCutcheons told me they "no longer service this area." (I am in the 34209 area code in Bradenton, FL.) I had a friend of mine, who is in the same area code, canon McCutcheons to ask about them installing a new AC for her home, and they said, yes, they work in this area. read more

We have had a chattering filter frame and David installed a new pleated filter to eliminate the problem. We signed the contract knowing there was a short delay for the air handler. Arrived and installed a few days after hurricane Milton. Zack and Richard did an excellent job on the install. They were on time, professional, hard working, and kept us informed throughout. Most high marks for their friendliness, communication, and customer service. We highly recommend SMAC. Sean McCutcheon's provided excellent service, from estimate to install. My 2-Ton HVAC stopped working and another company told me it would be about $2500 to test and replace the coolant. Since it was 9 years-old I decided to replace instead of repair. The estimator was thorough and explained all options and needs in good detail. It was easier for me to understand their quote than that from the other company. Sean McCutcheon's had a 4.9-star Google rating and the other company a 4.3 rating. In addition, SM had done a small vent-add to my master bed room and had done a great and clean job. It was easy to pick SM for this big project - also they threw in the UV light for free. The install was excellent, it took longer than they thought due to some existing electrical challenges, but that was not an issue. To top it off, when the inspector came, he said "Oh, Sean McCutcheon did the job? They are the best in Sarasota", and the inspection went fast and easy. Definitely recommend to anyone. read more

Unreliable call service. Appointment schedule for AC maintenance on March 4th and I received several text messages confirming the appointment days prior. No show for today's appointment scheduled for the 12th of March. Apparently, there was some kind of error on their end in regard to scheduling. They were willing to schedule something 8 days from now. JUST WOW. It was their mistake and I feel that an appointment should have been warranted within 24 hours. I needed a repair to my condenser unit, McCutcheon AC give me an *estimate* for the work, and I authorized the repair. When the work was completed I received two Invoices, three minutes apart. The second Invoice was close to the original *estimate*. The earlier invoice was for $448 less than the final Invoice. It seems clear to me that the actual work performed was $448 less than the *estimate*, which someone realized shortly after emailing the first Invoice I received and rushed to send a second Inovice which was at the *estimated* amount. Certainly doesn't seem ethical to me, and consequently they will never, ever be hired to do work for me. read more

Our Carrier Variable Speed Motor AC blower stopped working last night so I called the well-known company that installed it, only to be run around on pricing. In complete frustration I asked my friends for a recommendation and am so glad I did! Josh answered my after-hours call and clearly explained the repair options, asking if I would text him pictures of the model and serial number so he could get a parts quote from the warehouse when it opened in the morning. As promised, 8:30am I received his quote, which was $400 less than Cool Today, and he was able to make the repair before noon. Our 8-year old central air conditioning unit conked out after it was 'fixed' by another company. We got a lot of recommendations and referrals from neighbors and ultimately went with McCutcheon. So happy I did. Very competitive price, excellent communication and responsiveness to questions, over and above service (they were going to throw in a WiFi thermostat at no extra charge but got thwarted by my building's 1970s wiring) and they had the entire job complete within 36 hours of my giving the go-ahead. I'd absolutely recommend them! Also, what sold me was that the owner took the time online to respond to reviews (both good and bad). The few bad ones seemed to come from crackpots and his responses were awesome in detailing the advice he'd given them and how it had been ignored. After obtaining several sets of quotes across 3 well known companies in the Sarasota area, we settled on utilizing Sean McCutcheon to replace both air conditioners and air handlers, along with the refrigerant lines and some duct work. We could not be any happier with the experience we had with Mark, Nick, Zak, Markus, Ian, Ryan, and Jamie. Mark provided us with the quotes and worked with us in a very responsive fashion with lots of back and forth on different models and options whereas competitors were unresponsive after the initial quote. We had a similar experience. Our older system was operating fine, but drawing too many amps. We had McCutcheon out, and they worked on the unit. Then, when they were finished, it would not start up. I spoke with the owner (Sean), and he denied having done anything wrong, saying, "Sometimes older systems just stop working." He was unwilling to fix the system at his cost, and only said he would give us a "great price" on a new system. His "great price" was significantly higher than other quotes we received, and we went with Veteran Air. We will never use Sean McCutcheon again. read more
