He has the tall trophies, broken bones, and big belt buckles from literally decades of rodeos. When I first started working with him about 10+ years ago, I couldn't quite tell if he was the real deal or not. It felt a little like I'd stepped back in time or something. But he came through so many times with texting support on weekends when I was trying to watch a football game on DirecTV. Or if was something to do with the high-end car stereo he'd installed, he'd say, "bring it in around 10am when we're a little slower and we'll check it out right away." Alan has stood behind every product or service he's ever sold me. We all know how rare that kind of integrity is in our world. His shop may not look "glamorous" for those used to shopping in Apple stores, but he's not selling image. He's selling and installing the best car stereos on the market. Brands and systems that are almost always better than what Toyota, Lexus, or Mercedes Benz installed in your brand-new car. My wife's new Toyota, with all the bells and whistles that Toyota throws at their "Limited" lines, still doesn't have Apple CarPlay that connects wirelessly like the one Alan installed in my 6-year-old RAV. I do not believe there is truly anyone else (in SB county!) who could possibly know as much--much less "more"--about this world than Alan Gold. And now that he's repping Frontier Fiber for home and business internet, a TRUE Gigabit (and beyond!) service where you get better, 5-20 times faster, CHEAPER service than the Cox Monopoly game in Santa Barbara ever provided? I hadn't had a detail in a decade and it was just filthy inside and out. It's a NEW car, minus the dent I need to have vacuumed or sucked out and the driver's seat. Saab leather cracks sooner than other brands. My Nissan Pathfinder LE (1998) lasted much longer. I took a video but will get pictures later and upload to phone. I cannot believe the ceiling. Like no one ever smoked! It's shiny, shiny, shiny. They did the interior and exterior, plus engine. Elite detailing isn't cheap but if , like me, you paid cash for your used car and have no payments, who cares? It's like a couple months car payment or so. Do yourself a favor and call for a quote. The website has no prices but they also do ceramic coating, with several tiers of packages. You can do a mini-detail or just regular car wash but if you leave the car with them for a day, they will give you a NEW CAR back at the day's end. I'm still on Cloud 9. Floating! Every time I see my baby, I smile! PS. THE SB INDEPENDENT BEST OF LIST IS HORRIBLE. The best acupuncturist, not just in SB but California, is Anthony Kar. He's probably the best in America. He wasn't on the list. My friend, Evan Schoolnik Berger, has a food tour company that didn't make the list. My chiropractor and gym made it. Barry Family Chiro and SBAC/SWELL are the best in town. After paying and excited to get my car back looking newer than ever I was inspecting the car and noticed quarter sized paint chip on the passenger side and rim rash. I confronted David about it and ofc denied it. After taking it home for the first car wash they missed multiple spots with the ceramic coat. Again confronted David and said that's not possible. After showing a video clearly showing it wasn't ceramic coated. Finally agreed to fix it. After that I got a new part added and wanted it coated and paint corrected as well. I paid $300 for that part and the original missing panels to my surprise issues weren't done as promised. After going back the 3rd time. I dropped it off for the whole day then didn't touch the car at all. Wasted my time. 4th time same thing. Finally after the 5th visit it finally gets done after being pushed off for days up to two weeks. If you care about your car and wanted to get the service and respect you deserve. DO NOT GO HERE. He then emailed his customers (including me LOL) asking for good reviews after my negative review. See screenshots. He also just emailed me asking me to vote for him for the Independent's Best Of, which prompted this update. Creepy and pathetic behavior. Considering how comfortable he was showing up at my business over a Yelp review, I have to wonder whether he has confronted other negative reviewers. I'd take the sudden positive reviews with a grain of salt. Full update: Less than 24 hours after I posted my original review below, Oren stalked my Instagram and viewed my personal Instagram story (see screenshot) and showed up at my business around 9pm. He drove by, then parked down the street despite plenty of parking directly in front of the store. He paced outside several times, then yelled my name from the street. I came outside and, after his rant, called the police and Oren left. I have a police report and security-camera footage documenting the incident. He then sent an email blast asking people to give him good reviews online. I know because he sent the email to me too. See screenshots. He then sent another email saying he had "sent the wrong link" and again asked for reviews. Afterward, a number of 5-star reviews appeared. I even have a screenshot of a reviewer explicitly saying they were posting because Oren asked for a positive review. With the SB Independent's Best Of currently going on, I think this raises legitimate questions about the integrity of a system where a business asks its mailing list for positive reviews and votes while a negative reviewer is confronted in person. I will be sending the documentation to the SB Independent and Better Business Bureau. We're giving you a way out Oren, you can email us and we can setup a time to address and resolve this in a semi public forum, where there can be no dispute later about what was said. You have our email address since you've been emailing us asking for votes. Original review below The owner Oren and his coworker Erick are both sleaze balls. If I could give this place a negative star review I would. This event that I'm going to bring up is from around 2020 but I decided to write this review now because ironically at our thanksgiving dinner a friend of ours brought up what a horrid experience they had at Oren's and it prompted us to bring up ours. In short we had one of our classic mustangs at Oren's. Side note, Oren during the entire process referred to the car as my dad's "mid life crisis" in a condescending manner. I always laughed in my head because little did he know my dad has about 20 cars, 10 of which are classic mustangs, and I bring this up because we are well versed in classic mustangs and restorations etc. Anyway long story short Oren was doing an insurance job on one of the cars (it took over a year since he said his mechanic had to go to Mexico. While the car was there for the insurance job we asked Oren to fix a leak with the power steering. This was outside of the insurance claim and was paid for by us. Oren charged us approximately $700 to fix the leak, in doing so he changed the power steering pump to address the problem. The day we took the car home it was still leaking and we immediately called him to say it was leaking and not fixed. This was the start of a long drawn out case of Oren dodging taking our car back and actually fixing what we paid him to fix. He eventually said there was no one to actually fix it and he would not refund or remedy the situation. He took the $700 and ran essentially. We then contacted the better business bureau and the bureau of automotive repairs to report this. Eventually under the pressure of the BAR (bureau of automotive repairs) Oren's said they would take the car back but that they were booked out etc. Anyway, they never took the car back and the problem was never fixed and they made off with that money. Ironically at cars and coffee I've heard horror stories from others about their bad experiences at Oren's as well. I wish we had spoken to others prior to us ever going to Oren's because Oren and his staff are terrible and I would never recommend them to anyone. Hey Oren if you read this I challenge you to deny it What Oren could not do regarding the original repairs it was brought in for, another shop Mastercraft accomplished in a super professional and efficient manner and hardly billed the insurance company much either. I'd highly recommend them over Oren's any day
