To make it clear, I did not receive any service from this place. My oil change guys recommended Oren's. My papa told me my uncle's car (simlar to mine) had issues with the EGR and I should get mine check to see if it needed an EGR cleaning. Oren's shop asked me some questions and informed me for the price and year of my car, they didn't recommend getting it cleaned yet. TLDR: I gave Oren a bad review. Instead of responding like a normal person, he showed up at my business at 9pm the next night to try to intimidate me. I called the police and he left. He then emailed his customers (including me LOL) asking for good reviews after my negative review. See screenshots. He also just emailed me asking me to vote for him for the Independent's Best Of, which prompted this update. Creepy and pathetic behavior. Considering how comfortable he was showing up at my business over a Yelp review, I have to wonder whether he has confronted other negative reviewers. I'd take the sudden positive reviews with a grain of salt. Full update: Less than 24 hours after I posted my original review below, Oren stalked my Instagram and viewed my personal Instagram story (see screenshot) and showed up at my business around 9pm. He drove by, then parked down the street despite plenty of parking directly in front of the store. He paced outside several times, then yelled my name from the street. I came outside and, after his rant, called the police and Oren left. I have a police report and security-camera footage documenting the incident. He then sent an email blast asking people to give him good reviews online. I know because he sent the email to me too. See screenshots. He then sent another email saying he had "sent the wrong link" and again asked for reviews. Afterward, a number of 5-star reviews appeared. I even have a screenshot of a reviewer explicitly saying they were posting because Oren asked for a positive review. With the SB Independent's Best Of currently going on, I think this raises legitimate questions about the integrity of a system where a business asks its mailing list for positive reviews and votes while a negative reviewer is confronted in person. I will be sending the documentation to the SB Independent and Better Business Bureau. We're giving you a way out Oren, you can email us and we can setup a time to address and resolve this in a semi public forum, where there can be no dispute later about what was said. You have our email address since you've been emailing us asking for votes. Original review below The owner Oren and his coworker Erick are both sleaze balls. If I could give this place a negative star review I would. This event that I'm going to bring up is from around 2020 but I decided to write this review now because ironically at our thanksgiving dinner a friend of ours brought up what a horrid experience they had at Oren's and it prompted us to bring up ours. In short we had one of our classic mustangs at Oren's. Side note, Oren during the entire process referred to the car as my dad's "mid life crisis" in a condescending manner. I always laughed in my head because little did he know my dad has about 20 cars, 10 of which are classic mustangs, and I bring this up because we are well versed in classic mustangs and restorations etc. Anyway long story short Oren was doing an insurance job on one of the cars (it took over a year since he said his mechanic had to go to Mexico. While the car was there for the insurance job we asked Oren to fix a leak with the power steering. This was outside of the insurance claim and was paid for by us. Oren charged us approximately $700 to fix the leak, in doing so he changed the power steering pump to address the problem. The day we took the car home it was still leaking and we immediately called him to say it was leaking and not fixed. This was the start of a long drawn out case of Oren dodging taking our car back and actually fixing what we paid him to fix. He eventually said there was no one to actually fix it and he would not refund or remedy the situation. He took the $700 and ran essentially. We then contacted the better business bureau and the bureau of automotive repairs to report this. Eventually under the pressure of the BAR (bureau of automotive repairs) Oren's said they would take the car back but that they were booked out etc. Anyway, they never took the car back and the problem was never fixed and they made off with that money. Ironically at cars and coffee I've heard horror stories from others about their bad experiences at Oren's as well. I wish we had spoken to others prior to us ever going to Oren's because Oren and his staff are terrible and I would never recommend them to anyone. Hey Oren if you read this I challenge you to deny it What Oren could not do regarding the original repairs it was brought in for, another shop Mastercraft accomplished in a super professional and efficient manner and hardly billed the insurance company much either. Engine light on..again Early Sept 2025 I was driving to downtown SB from Goleta when I noticed the engine light was on. I called Oren's Automotive to schedule an appt. to determine the problem. The following week I went to Oren's and they diagnosed the problem to the EGR vacuum modulator and ECR relay. Both parts were replaced and the engine light turned off. A week later the engine light came back on. Scheduled another appt. end of Sept. Further diagnostic testing revealed the ECU computer required replacing. ECU was replaced and engine light & error codes no longer showing. Early Dec called Oren's for smog check and Oren's got me in immediately. Smog cert received just in time to renew my registration before it became past due! Thank you Oren's Automotive!! A couple of days later however the dreaded engine came back on - huh?? It was determined the ECU replaced end of Sept. was faulty. New ECUs are no longer available and only used ECUs can be purchased. Due to the lead time of the ECU to arrive at Oren's and other factors, the ECU was replaced end of Dec. It is now the second week of January 2026 and no issues so far! From early Sept to Dec 2025 Oren's Automotive performed exhaustive diagnostic trouble shooting and test drives which amounted to considerable time. I was not billed accordingly for the labor hours put towards my antiquated 2001 Toyota. Now I know Oren's Auto lost money fixing my car - they did this so I wouldn't be without a car. I offered to pay for some of the costs on two occasions to make sure things were right, but my offers were refused. Oren Glasman, owner of Oren's Automotive, stands by his shop's work. Oren is fair, honest and truly cares about his customers and when someone is in trouble with their car. I posted a previous review of this automotive repair shop on July 31 2024. Would not recommend if you value your car as personal space. Staff touched items inside my vehicle that didn't need to be handled, including removing trash from my door compartment. When I picked the car up, one employee came out to look and laughed, which made the whole experience uncomfortable. I brought my car in for a new starter, paid around $1500 which already seemed pricey, but oh well. The day I picked my car up, it was leaking transmission fluid, making an odd noise, and wasn't driving the way it had previously. Brought it back to orens, they said that there was now a hole in the transmission and they had "no idea" how this would happen and that theyve never seen anything like this. I asked to see the actual hole but they said they were too busy to show me. But they did say they could replace the transmission for $8000. Well...I got a second opinion today elsewhere and apparently where orens was working was DIRECTLY next to the hole. I had my car inspected a few days prior to bringing it to orens the first time, and it had no issues aside from the starter (I have paperwork to prove this). So this issue absolutely did not exist prior to orens. The fact that they quoted $8000 for a transmission while refusing to show me the actual damage to my vehicle was a huge red flag. Will be pursuing legal action against this shop. Stay away from here. read more

I've taken my car to Oren's for the past 12 years, and they have consistently provided professional expertise when they have maintained and repaired my Lexus. This has included the steering, brakes, and so many other car issues that have occurred in the past 12 years. In the past month, for example, they did my regular maintenance in one day, providing me with a ride to and from my home while my car was being repaired. First time using Orens and I called them as they were on the list of AAA repair facilities. My daughters Jeep broke down 5 miles away. It was clearly a coolant issue. I called and sent them a picture of the issue w/ the coolant container/tube/leak. They provided insight w/ regards to what they thought it was (over the phone via a picture), provided a rough estimate of repair, and indicated they may be able to fix it in just a day and suggest we bring in the vehicle asap. I trusted Eric after just a brief talk during what was a somewhat stressful time and he/Orens lived up to their promise. They Fixed the Jeep (which required a new part/coolant tank) w/in 24 hours as promised, at a very fair price, even though they were very busy. I'm out of the area and had to coordinate it over the phone for my daughter (local student) who went in and we couldn't be happier w/ the service, honesty, advice, fair pricing, timing to fix and the coolant issue is all fixed. I recently began to smell burning oil coming from my engine after drives. Took it to Oren's after being recommended by the guy who rotated my tires... and wasn't very impressed with the service. They charged me $200+ for a diagnostic (i should have looked into other shops first, since ever other shop I called after estimated their diagnostics around $100 or less). The diagnostic showed that I had oil leaking from a valve cover in my engine, which Oren's told me would cost about $1,200 to fix. I asked them to check my oil levels to make sure I could drive it home that day so I could call around for other shop's prices. They told me my oil levels looked normal, so I declined the repair and went home to call other shops. I called ~5 other shops in Santa Barbara and Goleta and explained what Oren's had said based on their diagnostic. All of the other shops told me that they would need to do their own diagnostic to be sure if Oren's was right about the problem, but that if they were, it would cost a couple hundred dollars at most. One shop told me Oren's was beyond ripping me off asking for almost triple what they usually charge for similar repairs. I ended up being able to get the valve cover repaired under warranty, and luckily didn't have to pay a thing, other than Oren's weirdly expensive $200 diagnostic exam. But I'm still just annoyed that they tried to (at least, according to multiple other shops in the area) charge me way more than was warranted for a relatively simple repair. I'm sure their service is quality for that price, but you can find cheaper options throughout Goleta and Santa Barbara, I promise! So, if you get recommended to come here, I would suggest checking out a few other places as well. read more

A good auto shop that goes the extra mile! After 8 years of leasing new vehicles with complimentary dealership servicing, I found myself in a position where I was in need of a local (downtown Santa Barbara) mechanic - sans the exorbitant fees that the dealer would charge. When I had purchased my used 4Runner, I made the mistake of having the local Toyota dealership perform a service which ended up being severely overpriced. Lesson learned. I came across Oren's via Yelp and have seen their license plate frames around town. The bulk of their Yelp reviews had painted this shop to be pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. Naturally, I had to give them my business. The scheduling process was straightforward and was done over the phone. I had the pleasure of working with both Eric and then Oren himself. Oren let me know that he was a longtime Toyota mechanic which immediately put me at ease. I appreciated both employees' friendliness and professionalism. I also reveled over how clean the facility was. The garage was nearly spotless which is a total rarity when it comes to local auto shops. If this shop takes pride in their appearance, then I have no doubt that they'd treat my vehicle with the same level of care. My brake replacement was a bit more than I was hoping to spend but I figured I'd bite the bullet rather than cheap out and encounter another issue down the road. I haven't had to purchase brakes in over a decade so their price per axle may very well have been the going market rate. Oren's was able to crank out the service in a day and a half, with Eric making sure to update me by phone. I was ecstatic to see that my ride had received a full, complimentary wash upon picking up. Which other local facility even does that?! Talk about going above and beyond. There was one minor issue where one of my wheel's center caps had fallen off while in their possession. Rather than ignoring this, Eric let me know that they ordered a replacement cap directly from Toyota which I appreciated. I would make this 4.5 stars if possible but I'm an old school grader. Before deciding who I would like to use I go to the one star reviews, weed out the stupid ones and then read the ones well thought out. I liked the replies from Oren and decided to take my 1981 VW Van to them with the baggage of a couple of bad experiences in the past with other shops. I appreciated the open approach they have and thought that both Eric and Oren communicated the process quite well once they had a chance to look at my car and analyze the issue. The first job was a clutch rebuild which was fairly extensive and the second to replace linkage in the transmission. Both cars took awhile to get back as older cars require parts that are hard to find and I back that with my own experience. Both times Eric called me, told me what the issue was, what they needed to do, and provided me an estimate. I thought both estimates were in line with what a competent and ethical shop would charge and I was very happy with the results. They told me the linkage was old to afford me an option to replace it on the first round, but it just didn't hit me at the time meaning they are not aggressive about pushing other work on the agenda, which I appreciate. They also told me when I picked my car up what to expect with regards to the shifting which really helped. I also observed that the shop is meticulously maintained and the couple mechanics I passed by were friendly. They also love talking cars and my sense is that they love what they do which to me is a great sign when hiring anyone for whatever it is they are going to do for me. To sum it up, I would definitely give this shop a try. Auto repair isn't cheap these days especially with old cars in Santa Barbara but to me it's worth getting something done competently and professionally if you are going to own old cars. One final thing I noticed. They have an agreement with AAA that guarantees their workmanship for several months that they stand by. I'm a recent college grad and have been taking my car to Orens for the past 2 years for the best price and service! I have a used Honda Accord which didn't get much of the 100,000 mile servicing done that is was supposed to by the previous owners. When I had issues with my battery and ignition I took it to Oren's for the cheapest price in town. They make sure you know what needs to be fixed now and what you can actually get away with replacing later and, as a result, have bought me a lot of time to save up for the aforementioned repairs I will be needing to make soon. My car always leaves the shop freshly cleaned and in tip-top shape! I was in today on short-notice to replace one of my headlights and they had me back out of the shop in minutes. I will continue to take my car here as long as I'm living in S.B. and will be very sorry to try to find a mechanic as trust worthy, when I do leave. read more

Worst service I have ever received. I'd give the 0 stars if I could. Not only do they charge 2x as much as they initially quoted me, but gave me a $800 bill to diagnose my AC is broken and needs to be replaced ENTIRELY. I understand labor can be intensive but snaking people out of money without consent of more work than initially quoted, knowing the system is defective is unethical. Eric was the guy who helped me when my Prius decided to not turn on. Oren's was a referral from the AAA guy who jumped my battery and I'm grateful to him! At first Eric said they were short staffed but wait!!! Came back on the phone and say to bring it in. Took a bit longer to get the right battery but he did and I was off to the races. My Jeep grand Cherokee's power steering went out and I had taken to another mechanic to try and see what was wrong and they missed the entire diagnosis and dismissed it as electrical or a problem with my wheels. Luckily I went to Oren automotive after being referred from personal acquaintance. I called and same day checked it out, even though I didn't have an official appointment- I was nervous to drive it anymore with my kids in car or make matters worse. They ran a quick diagnostic test and then immediately spotted the power steering fluid leek and in under 10 minutes they had the problem figured out and we're ordering the required fluid from Jeep and part. Oren and his team explained everything to me and gave me good advice to not drive it anymore and would make problems worse. I was stressed to not have my car as a working full time parent so suddenly... but he had it in and out in under 4 days even though he was slammed with other cars that week. Jeep dealership told me 3 weeks to get in. They gave me a very fair estimate and even fixed my headlight while in the shop that had been going in and out. The car was washed upon pick up!! Oren is personable and funny! I will always take my car to this mechanic shop and so thankful for their honesty and treating me like a friend I could trust!
