I thought the food was pretty decent here! Especially for this community! Lunch specials are at a good price of $12.95. There were hoards of people in the front earlier getting takeout! Most likely the dim sum! The beef with mixed vegetables lunch special can feed two but we also ordered the seafood vermicelli "da pang" style. You get a bowl of rice too with the lunch special. It is thin rice noodles with seafood bits, picked vegetables and regular veggies and like snow peas, carrots, peppers and onions. This was a huge plate and I took the rest home and it made three more meals so that is the extent of the size! It is more expensive because there are some bay scallops and squid in there too! I was waiting in line to place my order, but they took the order of another customer who shouted from behind me instead of serving customers in the order they arrived. This is a smaller Cantonese restaurant located on Avenue U near Sheephead Bay. This please can probably hold 7 to 8 tables of eight at most. I usually meet my extended family here for dinners and can barely fit our family so we had to split into two smaller tables. We ordered a roasted pig as well as lobster lo mein. we ordered in total 12 dishes and it included plenty of protein vegetables and a soup after tip. It was approximately $800. I came here for dinner with my family, we had about 20 people so we had 2 big round tables that were next to each other. The staff were very attentive and all the food came out fast one after the other. I'm not sure if the staff were being friendly or perhaps there's a minimum you had to spend but my grandma got a free birthday cake on the house. We did make reservations ahead of time. The cake was a generous size and more than enough for the 20 people that attended the dinner. There was so much left over that we decided to share the cake with the restaurant staff. One of the few restaurants on Avenue U that's open early for dim sim. Came here around 9:30am on NYE and there were only a few people there. It did get crowded by the time we were ready to leave. Pretty standard dim sum: shrimp dumplings, rice noodles with cilantro, tulip cake, chicken fingers, spare ribs, egg tarts, etc. Prices were very reasonable compared to other places in Queens and Manhattan. You can also get dim sum to go. Staff was friendly and restroom was clean. Good choice if you are in the hood and are craving for good dim sum at great prices. $24 for three people who left stuffed. Dim sum prices here are pretty inexpensive. Food is relatively good. This is a small place so don't expect a huge selection. My favorite was their beef rice noodle. This rendition is done well. Soft pillows of rice noodle with a generous portion of tasty beef. This is an old fashioned, old school place, so don't expect stellar service. They was busy and low on staff. And the woman manning the front cashier/ counter is always multi tasking, so don't expect her to be smiling. At dim sum time, Ask her for a table and she will put down a number on a pad, indicating who is next and how many. This place gets packed so try to get here early, like 1030am. The tables are packed tightly so no room for dim sum carts to roll around. The cart containing dim sum is a permanent fixture in the front. Just go up to it and ask or point to what you want. Remember to bring your receipt/ bill so she can stamp it after you choose your dim sum dishes. I asked for two items. I was going to bring it back to my table, myself. But she insisted on bringing it herself. Also ordered a beef chow fun with peppers and black bean sauce. This was tasty and a very generous portion of tender beef and silky noodles. They also have a private room downstairs for a table of ten. It's a really tight squeeze down there, like a Harry Potter closet. So I hope you all like each other enough. Final note: As I said before, this is a very old school place, in decor and service. So as long as you can get passed that, the dim sum is A'ok. The food was salty and like my family said, once they forget to tell them less salt, it was the chef's field day for using salt. I came here for dim sum around 1pm in the afternoon. There were 2 of us and it was pretty packed so we had to share a table with another couple. No big deal, pretty common with chinese dim sum spots. We ordered about 6 dishes total. All were good except the spare ribs. The meat felt "soft" which was odd. U had my fair share of spare ribs so I know this was different. Also it was pretty pink so we werent sure if it was fully cooked. We asked the waiter and he said it was but we just didn't want to eat it after that. I am a long time customer as I over 20 years and like the food but the woman who is at the front, I believe the owner, is SO RUDE, that I will never go back. Between my mother and I, we have been treated so poorly during eat in and take out experiences that I will never go back after todays experience. Today was the last straw. We came here for lunch on Saturday. Dim sum was good and reasonable prices. I liked their rice noodle roll and they were freshly made. You can order cilantro rice noodle with your choice of meat (dried shrimp, beef, roast pork, shrimp and vegetables). The negative side was that some dim sum dishes were a little bit cold. A friend recommended the double egg fried rice. It was pretty good too. The restaurant is really small, but they try to accommodate you as soon as possible. Maybe it was the super fresh third batch of the early afternoon (late for dim sum).. or the fact that I had been at the gym since 10am. Shrimp crepes and shrimp dumplings were solid. The Shui-Mai were fat and wonderful. The herbal chicken legs fresh and tender. Even the tripe medley had good flavor, not an easy task actually- it usually tastes a bit overly salty, mucky being it's stomach lining odds and ends. The combination noodle dish of rice vermicelli and bean thread stir fried with slivers of sweet mustard, red onion, sprouts, carrots, squid, chicken, shrimp and egg was perfect. The group after me was 7 people and they just kept bugging the server to get seated at the next available table. They treated us very rudely because we were ABC (American born Chinese) and did not speak mandarin/cantonese. They seated the other group before us even though we were supposed to be first. Yes we can still be discriminated against in our own culture. The food was not that tasty. It was a disappointing experience. I thought the rice flour cake (lo bo gao) was not bad. Good food, but cheap on meat and sauce. They have a habit of filling up dishes with things like vegetables and herbs if you order a meat or seafood dish with them. They're also about $1-2 more than the other restaurants in the area. Customer service is bad, the women are something else; with the exception of like one lady there the rest don't much like non-Asians much less "Americanized" Asians, although that could be said about most Asian restaurants. I've come here to eat many times during the past year. There are some reviews saying the female owner is rude. I haven't interacted with her directly but we did try to call yesterday inquiring whether they had any tables available. She answered the phone, spoke very quickly to tell us to come, and then hung up. But this did not dissuade us. We came and had a good experience with the service and the food. This is a small restaurant so it is usually better to call during peak dinner hours to make sure they have a table available. We have also ordered for take-out and did not have any problems. This place has changed names several times, but this one time it has seriously revamped itself. The staff, decor, food and even the bathrooms improved a lot! The dimsum dishes here are very solid. The down part is that the place is pretty small so it does feel cramped. However, the food redeems all flaws! Ordered the beef dishes, garlic chicken, and the seafood like crabs, lobsters, and shrimp - all were very very very fresh. Also, the service is excellent; a drastic change from the previous management. On top of that, I checked out the bathrooms and it was newly renovated in a very nice fashion and looked/felt clean (not sure how long that will last, though) I just had a birthday party group here...too bad that it closes early, we wish to have stayed longer. I live 3 avenues away & came here monthly for last year, namely for the Saturday morning dim sum where it's really packed but for a good cause: steady, reliably authentic Toishanese-style dimsum keeps all returning. At others times, their menu is very Yue cuisine with large portion sizes at a very fair price. Service is the normal, somewhat better than the usual curt since it's a smaller place. I've had too many items here to start though regular favorites are the white spicy fish fillets in chili sauce & the oil-tossed green vegetables. Truly, hearty favorites we have a hard time replicating at home. I always feel welcome here with a very hearty, heart-felt meal waiting each time. Note 1 50" tv on rear wall plays TVB. This isn't a huge place, but it's one of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to recently. Came here a few weeks ago for a Mother Day's dinner and the place filled up as the night went on.
