I took photos of just the duck and instead of clamly asking if I got her face in it, in an accuastory manner, she asked me not to film her. The duck was so small. We came here for dim sum in the morning and then dinner at night. For dim sum, it was very packed and had to wait 15-30 minutes for a table. Make sure you listen carefully for your number. The flavor for most of the dim sum foods were very nice. Sometimes, you would have to flag them down to get what you want. Be on a lookout of those carts going around. For dinner, we reserved a room, which they told us in advance that we had to order at least $450 worth of food if I'm remembering correctly. Recently my family and I have been ordering dimsum at Bamboo Garden because it is so expensive elsewhere and it actually taste pretty good here. The quality of dimsum around 8th Ave has gone down drastically and the price just keeps going up. The price has gone up at Bamboo Garden as well but it is nice to know the quality stayed the same. The only down side of this is that we didn't experience the cart ladies going around us, we had to order everything on paper and give it to the waitress. Also because that day there were really busy. On Christmas Day, Chinatown is always busy since they don't close. We came here with a party of four around 1pm and got seated immediately, what a pleasant surprise. As soon as we sat down, we ordered our tea and the dim sum carts quickly came around. Everything was delicious, although some carts never made it towards us. We were still very full after ordering multiple items. In addition, we also ordered a BBQ Pork Rice Plate Combo ($9.99) separately on the made to order menu. Typical dimsum spot in this area. I would say my favorite dishes are the sui mai and the bean curd roll. The cart ladies are helpful here and the wait is not long even on weekends. The feng zhao was decent, the flavor wasn't as strong and as spicy as other ones I've had. My go to dim sum, bbq meat and Chinese dinner spot. Why? Because it fits everything I want/expect from an authentic Chinese restaurant. Starting from enter - long wait lines, super loud from the abundance amount of people, the cart ladies yelling out the food options, the "rude" customer service because you speak too softly and they cannot hear you and they tell you to speak up but you don't so you're wasting their time, etc. Newcomers don't realize this culture and uniqueness to appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, customer service is important but if you don't speak their language, you won't understand what they are really trying to tell you. Being here brings back so many memories of childhood. I've visited more modern dim sum restaurants and it's not fun. It doesn't bring this experience. You order from the menu and get your order. There's no ladies pushing the cart. The restaurants are quite. It's definitely more western. That is not the experience you want entering dim sum. You might as well get take out if you want it quiet. You'll read the complaints from other yelpers and it's quite ridiculous of a read. All the employees have their own sense of humor and personalities that are displayed when they show their food and do their job. Their job isn't easy. They don't get paid the big bucks. Don't be rude to them just like you wouldn't be rude anywhere else you go. Their English is limited. Besides the entertaining richness of the culture in this restaurant, the food. As any location, the closer you get to closing time, the food options become less. Same goes for weekdays vs weekends. That's how restaurants produce less waste. They make their food daily. So expect food to run out. Expect it less fresh at 2pm vs 9am. Every time I fly back to nyc, this is where I always go first to fulfill my Chinese food cravings. Because there is not one dish here that can go wrong. Great quality Everytime. Now with reservations and the private rooms, you obviously have to spend more to get a private room. That's a no Brainer anywhere. Downside about the private rooms are that you don't get to experience the loudness upstairs and the cart ladies. But if you just want to enjoy a meal with you friends or family then downstairs is best. They also have karaoke downstairs in each rooms. Besides dim sum, my go to for bbq meat items. Always made fresh daily. Always perfect. Moving into dinner, you really can't go wrong with any dish. Clearly from my photos I eat here a lot. I don't do many repeats but this one is my expectation. Absolutely one of my favorite place to grab dim sum! I always come here with my family. Since there is so many of us, we book ahead of time and request a VIP room in the basement. Regardless of what and how many dishes we order, food and service is fast and fresh! Having a room is different because there is no one pushing the cart around. The food was fine-ish, but I couldn't tell you much about it because I spent the entire meal being intensely stared at by one of the workers. I'm not talking casual glances--I mean full-on, "I know what you did last summer" energy. Every time I picked up a dumpling, they looked at me like I was committing a federal crime against shrimp. At one point, I dropped a piece of shumai, and I swear their stare got sharper. I half expected them to pull out a notepad and start documenting my eating habits. Can I start by saying that I am really happy this restaurant exists? It's a very traditional Cantonese style restaurant that is hard to find nowadays. They have dim sum all day which is always a plus. I came here and got the Mah Lay Goh Rolls and also the Mah Lai Goh (Brown sugar) cake. I have not returned to Bamboo Garden since the pandemic and it is sad to see the quality of food slip downhill. At one point during my childhood, this was my favorite dim sum parlor as they always had freshly steamed dishes rolled out on an almost half-hour basis. While the interior did receive a minor facelift since my last visit, I could not say the same for the food. Their har gow has shrunken by half and the once juicy and crunchy shrimp filling with bamboo shoots is now replaced with mushy oversteamed shrimp. The steamed tripe was old and chewy and a tad too salty for my preference. I did enjoy their steamed fish balls as it had a nice bouncy texture and flavor, as well as their pineapple yolk custard buns. The craquelin topping reminded me of Tim Ho Wan's famed char siu buns except the filling was an intensely savory and rich lava yolk custard. Did it flow like lava? No, but the intention was there so hopefully they improve on their custard filling. The service is just the same. The waiters will take your baskets away and refill your tea. They are generally friendly and can communicate in both English and Chinese. read more

I placed a delivery order with this restaurant, but due to an unavailable item and their inability to cancel it, I initially decided to cancel the entire order. However, I later changed my mind and chose to keep it. While contacting the delivery app's customer service, I also tried calling the restaurant to clarify the situation. Unfortunately, the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and unprofessional. She repeatedly interrupted me, spoke over me, and refused to let me finish my sentences. I have never encountered such poor customer service at a restaurant before. I typically don't leave reviews, but this experience was so terrible that I felt compelled to share. I've dined here before, but after this incident, I have no desire to return. No customer should be treated this way, and I sincerely hope the front desk staff member who answered my call reconsiders how she speaks to customers. To make matters worse, she hung up on me saying " thats it goodbye" like what?! Also, the numerous one-star reviews about their awful service speak a-lot about this restaurant. A business that fails to provide quality service doesn't deserve returning customers. I've only been to Bamboo Garden for their dim sum service. They have carts on the weekend. If you get stuck on the wall side, it's a bit more difficult to call on the cart ladies. The food is decent. They have the typical dim sum variety (ha gow, siu mai, etc.) , and they do those well. The prices are fair, and you'll feel full without spending too much. The restaurant gets busy during dim sum service on the weekends. It's best to go earlier, so you don't have to wait too long. This place used to be good. It had excellent food and service, with nice and friendly servers. However, things have changed over the past year. The server who answers the phone is always rude and yelling. My family only speak Mandarin, and while we understand some servers don't, we try to speak slowly and clearly. But the servers get angry at us for not speaking Cantonese and are very impatient--until we order expensive dishes. Then their attitude changes. Each manager seems to have their own set of rules, and whenever you speak to them, they give different answers to the same questions, which is annoying.
