Stephanie was a perfect fit for our wedding (and our engagement shoot), working with us to coordinate and personalize at every step of the way. We wanted a photographer who wouldn't be interested in the "cheese ball" shots and would best capture our personalities (we're weird enough when we aren't awkwardly posed). She worked well with a variety of crazy, loud, weird people to make our day look as magical as it felt. Stephanie was a great photographer for our big day. When she found out we didn't have a wedding planner during our initial consult meeting, she also gave us some great tips/hints, which led us to feeling a little less overwhelmed with it all. During that first meeting, Stephanie made sure to walk through the general look and feel of what she'd be doing during our wedding. We went over a pretty comprehensive list of family/group shots that we wanted, and she assured us that the day was going to be special. When she showed up for the day of the wedding, she was prepared and professional and definitely knew how to handle two anxious grooms who were running around making sure everything was good for the festivities. My partner and I just let Stephanie take the reins for how our photos were done, and I'm sure she would have preferred a *little* guidance, we're so glad we did, because her ideas were better than anything we could have come up with. I debated about writing this review because Stephanie is such a nice person. Putting that aside, if I look at the end product that I purchased, I didn't get really anything for my investment. I contacted Stephanie and described in writing that my family was largish and that we have 4 kids that can be pretty squirley and hard to capture on camera. In the past, we've had a photographer who was able to take tons of shots (fast shutter speed) and do lots of editing, guaranteeing we always got a dozen or so nice pics. Stephanie was sure that she was the right fit for us so I scheduled the session and was able to get in quickly-- score! We did a 30 minute session that cost a few hundred dollars and didn't get one photo that was frame or Christmas-card worthy. We got a dozen pictures that had kids not looking at the camera, eyes closed, etc. I ended up doing a candid photo session at my home and had to use those for our Christmas cards. What didn't work for us with Stephanie is that she doesn't do heavy editing that I asked for, or really any editing with the exception of lighting. What also didn't work is that for a family as large as ours we need a photographer who is going use a super fast shutter speed and take a couple hundred pictures to guarantee we get at least a few good ones. Now, we did have a couple of our boys who were fussy which is hard to deal with but we also had a couple that weren't-- regardless, we didn't get a good shot of any of them even individually. I literally had my oldest standing in front of her smiling for 5 minutes-- and not one good shot was in the proofs (nice smile, looking at the camera). I did share my feedback with Stephanie after seeing the photos. She was really nice and offered a number of other suggestions for photographers who could get us in on short notice. From a budget perspective, I had already paid for the pictures through Stephanie so this wasn't really a solution for me. She also offered to do a small shoot in her home studio of just the boys. But really at that point, it was clear to me that it probably wasn't going to work because we were still going to need editing and lots of shots which just wasn't what Stephanie did. To sum up my experience-- though a lovely person, Stephanie was not able to deliver good photos for my family because the things she agreed to do (edit and take lots of pics) didn't happen. In looking now at her wonderful reviews, it looks like most are for wedding or maternity and not family sessions with young kids. Maybe not her forte which is her responsibility to communicate to clients ahead of time. read more

My husband and I loved working with Stephanie (and her assistant!) at Seattle Flashing Lights Photography. We had a great experience from beginning to end. The first time we had contact with SFL, we felt like they really took an interest in our wedding and what we wanted out of the experience. They offer a variety of skills and packages. We opted for a long block of photography the day of the wedding to capture our whole day from getting ready, pre-wedding toasts, group and individual pictures, and the ceremony and reception, of course! I wish I could give Stephanie a million stars. I'll start with our engagement photos. Awesome fun and calm person to run around Gas Works park with -- we didn't have a great idea of what we wanted, so she came up with a lot of fun and creative photos that were also really beautiful. I was especially blown away at our wedding. First of all, our photos were AMAZING. She took SO MANY photos, of every guest and so many little details that I am so glad she took the time to capture, and worked with a lot of difficult lighting conditions. Also, she really went above and beyond her job description. She helped me get into my wedding dress when my sister was having trouble figuring out the lacing (that lacing was complicated, and Stephanie has done so many weddings that she was totally knowledgable and willing to pitch in at that critical moment :-) ). She was an advocate for us when certain other wedding vendors were being troublesome, helping our vision come through the chaos. And, she helpfully suggested that we set aside some time for some couples' photos outside when other photo plans fell through due to random chaos. Those photos are my favorite photos from the whole day and I am so glad that she made sure that we had those. My husband was starving at that point, so Morgen, her also very awesome assistant, even brought him some food to help us out, which was very appreciated. I recently booked a session with Seattle Flashing lights photography after seeing the fantastic photos they took a a good friend's wedding. From the moment I contacted Stephanie about the photoshoot, I felt totally taken care of. I have two kiddos, and have NEVER done professional photos as a family. After my sister was ripped for by some crazy woman/photographer, she was referred to Flashing Lights by her friend. She used them at her wedding and her photos turned out great. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, I decided I didn't want to have to live through the same ordeal she did and went with Flashing Lights, too. I am sure glad we did! They captured so many moments that I thought that we had missed. There are so many pictures of me with our guests that I am SO happy they caught. Planning a 2020 wedding date and then rescheduling to August of 2021, my wife and I experienced a lot of frustration and felt the need to adjust (lower) most expectations. All of our vendors did work with us to change the date, however, only one vendor stands out as having gone above and beyond. I cannot say enough kind words about Stephanie and the amazing work she did for our wedding! My husband and I moved down to San Francisco a year ago and we decided to get married in wine country. However, being from Seattle we felt lost searching for a good photographer in the Bay Area to be a part of our big day. I knew Stephanie from a mutual friend years before our wedding, however was hesitant to reach out to her given that it would be a destination wedding for her. However, I did end up reaching out to her and she was over the moon to fly out to wine country and shoot our wedding for us. We could not have picked a more perfect photographer! Stephanie is one of those kind-hearted people that is VERY easy to talk to and has a great talent for making you feel completely comfortable when you are getting your picture taken. My biggest fear was finding someone that my husband would feel comfortable enough to "pose" for and do the cute romantic pictures for our wedding... and Stephanie made it so easy for the both of us! Not to mention she has the most creative eye for amazing artsy shots! We will definitely be framing a ton of pictures to put around our house. Aside from her amazing personality and creative eye... what we cherished most was her ability to capture emotion in her photographs. We did not hire a videographer for our wedding (which I was bummed about, however we could not afford one with our budget). But after seeing the shots that Stephanie captured, I didn't need a videographer anyways. She did such an amazing job at capturing these little moments throughout the day that you can feel the power/emotion jumping right out of the picture and its as if I'm watching it happen all over again. I found Stephanie on the internet.I did not meet her in person until the day of the shoot, since I am from out of town. My family was visiting Seattle on vacation and I requested an hour session in the downtown area. She followed us around the Pioneer Square area taking family, couple and individual photographs (3 adults, 2 teenagers). Flashing Lights photography did a wonderful job photographing our family (including our 6-month old son). We shot outdoors on location, then did some indoor shots at our home. Doug and Stephanie were fantastic to work with-- they were flexible and fun, and did a great job of working with our infant son. They even came prepared with props that helped to enhance our pictures. They are very creative, and have an eye for capturing unique pictures. Their pricing is very reasonable and their turnaround time for the pictures is amazing! We couldn't wait to get our pictures, and we were not disappointed. We booked Stephanie for our post-elopement celebration photos. From the beginning, she was awesome. SUPER responsive and great to help tease out the details of what we wanted when we weren't even sure. We had a rather unconventional celebration (we rented out our favorite neighborhood bar). The event itself had no real structure which I'm sure made her job that much harder, but she worked with us ahead of time to get a list of the key shots we wanted. She did an awesome job of capturing the spirit of the event and gently nudged us to make sure we got some of the more posed shots that we're so glad we have now. I recently hired Seattle Flashing Lights to take some professional head shots of me for work.
