I bought a brand new house last year and my girlfirend and I decided our lives were busy enough to justify cleaners. After a long search, I settled on Seattle Green Cleaners and after months of having them clean the place, I can safely say that these guys are awesome. First, we are constantly cooking and having people over, and having cleaned my own kitchen for the past ten years, I can tell you that our cooking is really frickin' hard to clean up after. Especially the oven. Man I hate when something spills over and then immediately gets all dry and crusty because the stove top is hot...ugh. Anyway, they make it look perfect, like when I moved in. It's pretty great. Another thing I love is that they actually clean underneath stuff. I've had cleaners before who don't do this and it drives me crazy. Some people don't like their stuff being moved around but I promise you, if you want a good cleaning job, stuff's gonna get moved around a bit. Seattle Green Cleaners are super polite about it. They never reorganize, and while I try to not leave papers and stuff about most of the time, if I do they leave them in these nice little stacks, making the place even nicer while making me feel like my stuff is being respected. Finally, a word on rates. I think that for the quality of their service, their relability, and the use of green-friendly products, the rates are really competitive. I did a lot of competitive research and they were no more expensive than any other service I looked at and they don't ding me because I only have them come in once a month. I wouldn't recommend Seattle Green Cleaners. Although they did an okay job, they missed A LOT of important details for such a tiny space (300 sq ft) AND their satisfaction guarantee is FAKE? - They left my front door unlocked and denied it when I brought it to their attention. I was shocked, I know for sure that if I was able to enter my home after their cleaning without a key that it was left unlocked. - In my original quote, I mentioned my tiny kitchen had a built-in breakfast nook seating area (again super tiny being in a 1 room studio). By mentioning that my kitchen had a built-in breakfast nook was an additional $75 on my quote. I left the built in-bench open, showing the spider webs and dirt that had gotten into the built bench from previous tenants. When I arrived they had closed the bench, ignored it, and not cleaned a thing in there. They said that the $75 I paid for this additional are which is part of the again tiny kitchen, covered wiping down the windowsill, table, and the already clean tabletop. The apt was not being lived in at the time, but yet this crucial detail was left untouched. It was not clear that built-in furniture that is left open would not be cleaned from their site, and it could have been a great opportunity to go the extra mile or reach out to me but instead, the $75 spent on that extra "area" was not accounted for - They also went over budget and I was promised multiple times by the owner that I would receive the detailed invoice and it never came. I was not surprised, given they didn't fully clean the breakfast nook. -Finally, their satisfaction guarantee is a lie. I let them know ASAP my feedback on what was missed and that I was disappointed and all they offered was 10% off my next cleaning. read more

I really wanted to love this cleaning service but in the end it just wasn't up to par, especially when you factor in the price. I went completely non toxic in the house a few years ago and use only baking soda, vinegar, and castille soap for cleaning so the green aspect appealed to me. I am known for keeping a very clean and clutter free house. Our house is very small, about 600 sq ft, with a tiny bathroom, no hallway, tiny closet space and we are a bit minimalist so it's not filled with crap. I know I do a great job so I really wanted to bring someone to do the nooks and crannies, the details, the things you gloss over that you can't get to every week. But, my quote was about $125 for monthly cleaning. The first cleaning, was great. My stove looked newer than ever before so I was pleased. But, the second cleaning was a big disappointment and even though I complained, the service dropped off from there. I felt that they did the basics but completely skipped the corners, nooks, and crannies. I didn't feel things had been dusted well, in fact my dresser was covered in noticeable dust when they left. Small things in the kitchen were missed like wiping down the lid of the garbage can. They didn't do the little things like quickly stick the hose of the vacuum under the bed, between the wall and furniture, under the couch or into the 3" of floor in my closets. When I complained, I was told I'd need to add 30-45 minutes of time to include things like closet floors (we have literally two closets with a few inches of clear space that you just have to stick the vacuum hose in) and a few tiny shelves in the bathroom. For $125 for a 600 square foot house, these seemed like basics to me that should have been included. After a few more visits, my feeling when they would leave and I would inspect their job was "Well, at least now I can see what still really needs my attention.". And each time I'd spend at least 20 minutes cleaning up remaining areas after they left. It didn't take long for me to realize that's not a very satisfting cleaning experience. I was treated a bit like a high maintenance unreasonable client after only complaining one time through the proper channels and in a respectful way. Someone willing to spend $150 a month or more to clean their already clean house is going to demand excellent cleaning AND great customer service. We have a mixed review for Seattle Green Cleaner after using them for about six months and ultimately decided to swtich to another service. They were more pricey than the rest, but we selected them because they use non-toxic products -- important because we have a baby -- and because they got great reviews on places like Yelp. The house always smelled great when we got home after a cleaning, which we got used to quickly. They weren't always completely thorough, but they did a fine job. And they were very thoughtful, leaving an occasional gift and giving extra attention to rooms that needed it. For example, they gave the baby's room an extra good cleaning when she was sick. We were surprised the first time we were home during a cleaning that they were a bit haphazard when moving and cleaning things. For the price, we expected more of a gentle touch. But it's a cleaning service -- no service is going to be perfect. Our first problem -- a small one -- is that they asked for more money than our agreed upon price one week when they said the cleaning took more time than expected. Since we had an agreement for them to clean for a certain amount of time -- not complete a certain number of tasks -- this was strage to us. We felt they could have at least called us mid-cleaning if they felt something required extra attention, but they didn't contact us until they were finished and claimed we owed them more that week. Our second problem -- a big one -- is that we believe they broke the air gap by our kitchen sink, which caused the dishwasher to back up onto our bamboo floors and led to about $1000 worth of water damage. They denied breaking it, even though they were the only ones in the house that day, but it became our word against theirs. The owner didn't offer any type of compensation -- even a free cleaning or two -- when we brought it to her attention. She was even argumentative and borderline mocked us for mentioning it. Their website says they're bonded and insured, so we asked her for their insurance information. She promised to send it, but the information never turned up. These two issues are why we decided to go with another. We do miss the great smell and top-of-the-line cleaning products they used, but what can you do after an experience like this? Update: I see the owner responded to my review. I'm not an argumentative guy, so I won't respond to most of her points. She did mention that it was impossible for her team to have created our water damage because the knob on top of the counter, which her team dealt with, isn't functional. In fact, it is very functional; it holds the hose in place that allows backed-up water from the dishwasher to flow into the sink. This is a long review, which represents the huge waste of time and money it was to hire this service. The summary: Honestly do not waste your time with this company. We hired Seattle Green Cleaner for a move-in clean and I wish we would have read the Yelp reviews beforehand! We went off of Angies list and trusted the good reviews and #1 service award. Unfortunately for us, this was the worst service I have received in a very long time. After reading these other reviews, it makes more sense, given patterns in the reviews and even the company's responses. In a nutshell, none of the deep clean move-in services that we paid for were provided. It honestly looked like someone came in, did a rushed surface clean of some of the tubs and sinks, poorly swept, folded the toilet paper and left. The key areas that were left filthy were the insides of all the cupboards, the floors (which left our feet dirty walking barefoot and had piles of crumbs, dust and dirt) and the light fixtures (which still had bees and bugs inside). Other missed areas were the window sills, bathroom mirrors,the kitchen sink, and they did not wash any noticeable dirt off the walls (we were later told this was not included in the move in service, but it was listed on their site, so ?). My husband and I had already hired movers to come the following day so we were rushing around the house, re-cleaning everything (which continued to prove how poor the job done was) so we could move everything into a clean house as planned. When I complained, listing off the extremely poor quality for specific items, providing pictures and asking for a full refund (because we had to re-do all the work we paid them for), I was told that "we are sorry to not have met your expectations and are happy to come fix any missed areas". Given we had already done the re-work (except the light fixtures with the bugs) I told Jennifer the only way to make it right would be a full refund because it wasn't that a few things were missed, it was a really poor job all around. She refused and told me she would only give me a $50 (1 hour) refund because her cleaners could have re-done the light fixtures, cupboards and all floors and other missed areas in an hour. My thought was... really? if you can do all that in an hour, then why did you charge me for 7 in the first place? In addition, she blamed the fact that she was using green cleaner for the filthy cupboards, and said that her cleaners scrubbed and scrubbed but couldn't get some sticky parts off, but I washed off the crumbs and stains that had been left with water and a paper towel. Also, she said that since we had a few boxes and clothes in the closet and a bed in one of the rooms that they were not responsible for certain areas being missed because a move-in clean should be for an empty house. The problem with that is the key areas that were missed were fully empty. Anyway, after several emails back and forth, her response was that since I did not want them to fix their mistakes (because I already did myself) she was "sorry we could not come to resolution". I wouldn't recommend hiring this company(clearly) but if you do hire them my suggestion is to be there to supervise, provide a very detailed list of the items you want cleaned (and what condition you expect them in when finished) and then go and check every item on the list and document with photos. Oh and definitely make sure there is time for them to come back before you have to move anything into your house. But in all seriousness, do not hire them. read more

The owner, Jennifer, is very committed to her customer's satisfaction and checks regularly on the quality of work that is performed. She has the same individuals clean your house every time; it's good to know that not a bunch of different cleaners are coming in and out of your house! Jennifer even worked with us to find a cleaning time slot that would work with our work schedules so that we did not come home and still have the cleaning team at the house. I had worked with another cleaning group in the past that was a franchise and was not happy with the quality of cleaning that was done. I am recovering from a health situation and haven't been able to clean much. This cleaning was a gift from my dear friend. I really appreciate that I came home to a place free of chemical smells. Based on my experience today, I recommend them highly. Waste of money and time- I have a 6 week old and a 4 yr old - I contacted the cleaners to get help with my kitchen and bathrooms because I barely have the energy to do the dishes at night. I should have known that there would be a problem when the owner (Jennifer) was not particularly pleasant when I asked for only two hours (what can I say, I'm on a budget and my old cleaning lady could easily clean my kitchen/bathrooms in 2 hours so I know I wasn't asking for the sky). The cleaners came today and Wim, who who did the kitchen, did a terrible job. He somehow decided that reorganizing the items on my counter (which were pushed out of the way to allow for easy surface cleaning) was worth my money despite the fact that it did not actually create any more space for me and it did nothing to help me in the kitchen - and b/c he wasted his time on this he didn't finish one counter (my kitchen is small so this is quite an accomplishment) and actually left stuff piled on the counter that wasn't there before he started. He also, for what reason I cannot fathom, thought it would be a good idea to reorganize the paper bags I had stowed away next to my refrigerator - not pretty perhaps but out of the way. Now I have a bag full of nicely flattened paper bags in my hallway (totally in the way of everything) and a counter that still is not clean. Bottom line - he didn't do a good job cleaning and actually created more work for me because I now have to restore the bags next to my fridge and reorganize all the stuff he did in my kitchen. I feel like I have paid someone to create more work for me. Please use someone else. I also found the cleaners to be unfriendly. Added 8/19/10: I have to respond to the owner's response to my comments - I'll only do it once after which she can say what she pleases and you can all make your own judgement. First off, I find it interesting that although I completed the customer satisfaction survey in addition to posting to yelp, she did not respond to me directly, instead jumping to yelp (she would not have known I posted on yelp if I hadn't filled out the survey so she must have read it). I would think if she really meant her last statement she would have contacted me and asked if there was a way to resolve things and maybe get my negative review off of yelp. Second, while I appreciate her psychoanalysis of me being a being a chronic dissatisfied customer, the truth is I've had the same lady cleaning my house for 3 years. She does an awesome job but has been in the hospital for 2 weeks so I hoped to get a little help until she is back on her feet. It is because she does such a good job in a timely fashion that I was so dissatisfied with this company. Second, the quote she discusses was based on a generic web form, not seeing my house. Knowing that I don't have a particularly large kitchen and again having a lady regularly do my kitchen and bathrooms in two hours I felt the quote was unreasonable. As for her comment about clutter- i have a small kitchen without a lot of counter space. Everything was moved as out of the way as possible and against the wall. I wish I had more space to get stuff completely off of the counters but I don't. The cleaner didn't just lift and clean, he actually wasted time reorganizing the items. I guess it comes down to expectations. I am a busy mom who has no time and thus I value it very highly. So when I walk into my bathroom and wonder why it took the cleaner an entire hour (I'm sure the owner will claim it was filthy but it wasn't) when it looks no better than what I or my cleaning lady can do in 30 minutes, I wonder why I spent $40 on it. And when my paper bags, which were stuffed out of the way next to the fridge, are now nicely flattened in a bag but my counter hasn't been wiped, I have to wonder at the cleaner's idea of customer service when he knew he only had an hour. If you don't care about your money and are willing to let them come and clean for as long as they deem fit, I'm sure at the end of the day your house will look clean. You'll just pay way too much money for it. But in the end I guess this is all my bad - if I had watched the guy cleaning my kitchen instead of caring for my children, I would have stopped him right away from messing with my paper bags and told him to get the hell off my dining room chair with his shoes while he was trying to clean the tops of my cabinets. read more

I called Green Cleaner because I had a 9 month old and realized that nooks and crannies hadn't been cleaned since I was put on bedrest before she was born. Because I was on a budget I asked them to clean only specific areas, including the bathroom, kitchen and living room. Green Cleaners did a great job cleaning, and the woman who worked on our house was friendly. She didn't mind that we were in and out of the house running errands, or that I needed her to clean certain areas first so that I could get my daughter down for a nap. She even asked that I check her work. The only thing she didn't get clean was some mildew in the grout of the shower, but I think only toxic cleaners can really get rid of that. We had guest visit a few days later, and they all marveled at how clean the house was, considering that we both work full-time and have a young child. Sorry, Green Cleaners, we took all the credit for the clean house! The only struggle I had was that we don't have paper checks and they don't take credit cards, so I had to write a money order without knowing exactly how much the cleaning would cost. read more

Not a thorough cleaning job. The owner, Jennifer, was way off-base with professionalism in handling simple feedback from a customer. There are pretty routine things that you would expect from cleaners...for example, emptying a tiny bathroom trash can. To this company...this is a special request, requires extra time..and extra charge. There are numerous other examples of what is considered extra work and special request....it is ludicrous! The owner was as defensive as she could be about her company rather than try to pay attention to customer feedback (you would think a business owner would encourage that) and I will add... I was not looking for reimbursement or any additional service....merely offering my opinion of the work that was done...which was very objective...and I thought, helpful...not at all hypercritical and never mean. Instead, I received a totally unjustified emotional response, completely unprovoked...which anybody with sense would think..unprofessional. I am left with bad feelings and an emptier wallet. So here I am on yelp...... (where a consumer has a voice) because it seems clear that she won't adjust her business model...so, I will share my opinion with others..to spare their time and expense. Spent over 200+ for 2 hours (2 people), there are still cobwebs in the corners, dirt and dust on the floor...unempty bathroom containers (tiny cans...200 dollars and they won't empty a little trash container? This is special request....a little confused on that one), appliances left dirty...again..special request....the top of the cabinets, the exterior..which are supposed to be included... under the sink were dusty. Anybody would agree that this cleaning cost (based on their own formula) is not a justifiable expense if they consider anything beyond surface areas...extra. What is the point of having a housecleaner if they won't bother to access the more difficult areas...areas that one can't reach (such as areas above cabinets, top corners of rooms, low hanging skylights)..I won't bother going into detail about the reachable areas that were left unclean. The company thinks cleaning windows is above and beyond...to me--which I find dumbfounding. It is not as if I am being an unreasonable person. I have had cleaning people around before...my dad was a single dad with three kids....he was constantly working..our household needed some help now and then out of necessity. I don't know if the lack of motivation in the employees of Seattle Green... is lack of good pay from the business or from low morale or being overworked...that is not my problem. I know that I am paying the "middle man" quite a bit. I know that "clean" actually means all-clean...I don't need to be told what clean means by her definition. The owner needs to realize it will be hard to stay competitive if expectations are not met..and they should be exceeded, frankly. There are many other companies to choose from with more motivated employees and more competitive prices. Yes, even others that are "green". ( Of course ANY cleaning company would be fine with using your own green products). The customer base for this company will disappear quickly if they don't show some passion and more care in dealing with customers. I don't see any strive to make the customer happy. ****Looking at another's review above...the response to a reviewer was pretty scathing to me. That this--and that--was not clean beforehand. To me, it sounds like a landlord scolding a tenant for not leaving his house clean before moving out. I would think the state of one's home would be kept confidential...I mean, really, it's a no-brainer to expect this from a business. I feel bad for the reviewer as she paid for a service and was attacked on a public forum concerning the state of her house (they are a cleaning company, after all). This site is to comment on business and it's practices..responses, yes...but not embarass your customers!!! Certainly, things could be stated more delicately. I am in awe of the audacity. Neither here nor there...think twice on this one. This is a cleaning company that doesn't want to get their hands dirty. In addition, if this company was as highly regarded as the owner states...why are there so little reviews. Strong companies with a strong track record have substantial reviews on Yelp. I am happy that there is such a place to keep businesses in check. Here is a shortened version of the email I sent to the owner, Jennifer after I was dissappointed in the move out cleaning they did on my previous house. When the cleaners first arrived I said to them, this is a move-out cleaning so I would appreciate it if you did a general overall cleaning, and don't spend too much time on any one area. I then left for about an hour and a half to run some errands. When I returned to wash the outside windows, I observed that the two cleaners were talking a lot about personal stuff, and that their pace was slower than what I had expected from proffessional cleaners, but I just assumed they would be able to clean the entire house in the quoted time (2 cleaners X 2.5 hrs = 5 hrs cleaning), as it is a small house and all of the furniture was removed. When the cleaners said their time was up, they explained they weren't able to get to the laundry room becuase the kitchen took longer because there was some stuff in the cupboards. After they left I realized they omitted more than just the laundry room. In the kitchen, there was a handful of screws, some birthday candles, grains of rice, etc., that the cleaners took out of the cupboards. Other than that the cupboards were bare. So I don't understand their explanation -because of the "stuff" in the cupboards it took longer to clean than expected. They did not clean most of the windows or the window tracks, as promised in the pre-appointment email. They did not clean the two windows, sills, or tracks in the master bedroom, the 2 in the living room, or the window and sill in the kitchen -the only windows they cleaned was the one in the bathroom and the one in the laundry room. They only vacuumed the 2 bedrooms and kitchen floor, they did not mop in the kitchen or the hardwood living room floor, and did not clean the laundry room. I don't know what took them so long because I was not there or outside while they were cleaning, but I do not accept that my tiny kitchen and bathroom was such a mess it took 5 hours to clean. Both my husband and my landlord, who both saw the condition of the home before the cleaners came, said I did not get my money's worth. When I returned to the house for the final walk through, my landlord pointed out some crumbs in a few of the kitchen drawers (obviously they didn't clean all the drawers), and there was soap residue around the bathtup that my landlord was going to have to charge me for cleaning. So I emailed this to the owner, Jennifer, and her response was that I was basically being unrealistic about the condition of my home in the cleaning request form. Specifically the cleaner said there was "lots of old food encrusted in the fridge, the stove top and nearly all cabinets and drawers" First, yes, the fridge needed to be cleaned, but there wasn't food encrusted in the fridge. I had cleaned the fridge about 3 months prior, and there were no sticky spills in the fridge, it just needed to be wiped out. As for the stove top- yes, it needed to be wiped off- we hadn't cleaned it for a few days but again, there was no food encrusted on it, plus I bought 4 new drip (burner) pans so they didn't clean those at all. Food encrusted in the cabinets and drawers? No, this is simply untrue. Like any normal person, I keep plates, cups, bowls, cans, a bag of rice, cereals, non-perishables, silverware, cooking and bake-ware in my drawers and cupboards. Food was not encrusted in the cabinets. A few grains of rice, sure. She also said that floors were cleaned, but became muddy as me and my husband walked through the house. She said the cleaners even vacuumed the kitchen twice so that more mud wouldn't be tracked through the house. My husband and I were only there for the last hour that the cleaners were there, and we were both working outside. During the entire time they were there, I came into the house maybe 4 times, once to show the cleaners around then I used the back entrance to just go into the kitchen. My husband came in only once, and it was a nice day so we weren't tracking in mud (who vacuumes up mud, anyway?) Secondly, shouldn't they just clean the floors last? read more

Our experience with Seattle Green Cleaner started out fairly well - a little bit of back and forth trying to schedule the initial clean, but the owner was very accommodating and scheduled us on a Saturday at the regular weekday price. The cleaner that came did a super job, and we were impressed when she was upfront & apologetic when she accidentally put a small hole in a lampshade while cleaning it. Not a big deal since the lamp is about 10 years old and sits in direct sunlight most of the day - I'm actually surprised the shade didn't disintegrate when touched! Anyway, we were pleased with the initial clean and ready to begin a regular bi-weekly cleaning service; however, when the next cleaning day arrived we received a cancellation email stating that one of the cleaners had quit unexpectedly. We were told the owner would be out in the field cleaning and would let us know when we could reschedule. Our first thought was if one person quit and the owner was replacing the person who quit, why did we have to reschedule? Not a big deal, but it has been about 2 weeks now with no more word about rescheduling with us. Since we had quite a bit of back-and-forth getting the initial clean scheduled, we are not inclined to waste any more time trying to get in touch with them again about scheduling another cleaning for us. And we are actually wondering whether they overbooked us and forgot to reschedule or are just a generally unorganized, poorly run operation. Needless to say, we have had to find another cleaning service, which is regrettable, as we really wanted to like this company! read more
