She normally goes to Muckleshoot spa, but didn't want to travel that far on her one day off for the week, so we decided to try SugaringNYC in Gig Harbor. She made a 1045 appointment on April 16, 2026 through the website. The confirmation email stated 1040 and the dermaplane facial shows as a 60 minute appointment. I dropped her off and she entered the lobby at 10:30. They have no front desk staff so no one greeted her. She waited about five minutes, texted me and said she hasn't seen anybody and wasn't sure what was going on. I told her they were probably in with other appointments and to give it a few more minutes. Around 1049 someone came out and checked out a couple customers that were done and then checked her in. She was brought back to the room by Nevaeh at 1057. She took about 5 minutes to get set up, so now it's approximately 1102. She didn't put a head wrap to protect my daughter's hair nor did she have my daughter takeoff her shirt and put a robe on or at least just put a robe on to protect her clothing. She proceeded to do the shotty facial getting product and oil in my daughter's hair and clothes, the hot towels soaked my daughter's shirt. My daughter called me at 11:41 and said she was outside waiting for me. Now, I'm not a mathematician but if your appointment is at 10:40 your facial doesn't start until 1102 approximately and you're done at about 1035, paid for and out on the sidewalk at 11:41, your appointment was not 60 minutes. Nevaeh seemed frazzled stating that her manager was over booking them and that frazzled energy carried over into the lack of relaxing spa therapy that you're paying for! When my daughter called me to pick her up, I was shocked. She was already done knowing she went in late. She was very upset. Said that it was not a good experience. Said her freshly washed hair was now greasy with oil and product, and her shirt was soaked and had product on it. I immediately called and spoke to Nevaeh which I didn't know it was her. I explained that my daughter just left there from a facial, which was my birthday gift to her, and she was upset and almost in tears. I told her that my daughter's appointment was only 35 minutes to which she argued with me that she was only shorted five minutes. She didn't have anything to say about not putting a headband on or a robe. I asked her about getting a refund and she told me that she was not able to do that. I would have to email the Washington sugaring NYC email to which I did and have to date 5/4/26 have received NO reply. I've called both the Gig Harbor and the Capitol Hill sugaring locations which are owned by the same person and left messages for the manager, which I got employee's that called me back saying that they're not the manager and they'll forward it to the manager. But still have NOT received any return call from a manager with regards to the terrible spa experience. Don't waste your money at this location they clearly do not care about customer satisfaction, or providing a good spa experience. Clearly they only care about making money.

Betty scolded me and made remarks about my body and stretch marks while I was in my most vulnerable state. She had a Trainee wax me post putting me on the spot and while being waxed, some of the wax had accidentally gotten flicked onto Betty's scrubs. She then used the trainee's hand that had just been waxing me to remove the wax from her scrub to then put the same hand back onto my private area being completely unsanitary. As a licensed esthetician I knew it was unhygienic and as a woman I was in a vulnerable position and mortified. Her after care kit consisted of bath and body works 'warm vanilla sugar' hand sanitizer that she instructed me to use to sanitize my private area. This product should NEVER be used NEAR or ON your private area and especially not on open follicles that can lead to bacteria, infection, and irritation. She also said to use Curel lotion to soothe the area after using hand sanitizer. This kit was a joke and so was her business. I paid full price for an UNLICENSED trainee to wax me while being simultaneously humiliated by this businesses owner.

When I walked in there was no introduction or greeting, she immediately asked me who I was seeing and I didn't remember her name since it was my first time there. She laughed when I said I didn't know and then asked if I needed the bathroom. I said yes, and turned to my left (which was the treatment room) and her response was extremely condescending about that not being the bathroom. Again, I've never been there. A quick "hello, my name is Laurinda, this is where you will receive your facial today" is all it would've taken. It was a very negative first impression. About ten minutes into the facial treatment she ripped my nose hoop out and claimed she didn't know I had it. It's a large gold hoop, it's very obvious. Most facialist ask me to leave it in because with it out, my skin is technically "open" and it's a liability, so I was relying on her professionalism to handle that request. She didn't apologize but just stated, "If I would've know that was there I'd have asked you to take it out." If she would've introduced herself to me at the start of my appointment and looked at my face, she would've seen my nose hoop. But somehow it was my fault. I'm a little worried that she was less than foot from my face during the treatment and claimed she couldn't see it. Ten minutes later she proceeded to rip out my earring on my right ear. She then blamed that on me (again) saying that my earrings were weird because they had a back post. I'm pretty sure 95% of earrings have posts. She then proceeded (without my permission) to aggressively rub my ears. I asked her to stop because it hurt and she said "I'm trying to feel your earrings to understand what I'm working with." I realized when I got home that my ear was actually bleeding. Overall, the whole experience was extremely uncomfortable and quite frankly painful at times. I regret not leaving sooner. This was a Mother's Day gift and it left me more stressed and upset than when I walked in. When I left the treatment room after getting dressed she was no where to be found. 0/10 for customer service.

Not a lot just basic history info needed for my magical technician. She explained the process answered any and all my Qs. Explained the benefits the effects and how it effects everyone individually and how long it lasts and fills etc. Also prepared the worst pain imaginable but she offered numbing and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Also putting product where needed as I asked for a nice pouty look. Almost painless the clicking sound was the worst part. I felt like a total baby for nothing. Afterwards she spent a good amount of time explaining aftercare and even had an amazing oil for aftercare provided. I will be back and maintaining this look I love it! She was so kind and professional. Now as for the services they offer are endless to list I definitely recommend checking them out. The salon is large and beautiful. So elegant and tastefully designed. All the employees look so happy and that says a lot as a business owner. Lots of parking and easy to find right off of the freeway. 5 stars also minimal bleeding and no bruises. Yeah!!!

Let me first start off by saying I had originally been looking for a place to get waxed. I previously used other waxing facilities outside of Washington state and my last experience was a bad one. I had began to develop multiple,painful ingrown hairs and more soreness and irritation down there. I just moved to Tacoma a few months ago and began to research sugaring. I had heard of it once but honestly didn't think that it was for me because I have really curly coarse hair. I looked and looked and finally ran across Seattle Sugar Bar-Tacoma! I chose Annette because I read all the reviews and could tell they were genuine post. I even reached out to a waxing place in the area and asked the aesthetician her opinion on sugaring vs. waxing she suggested I go see Annette if I was considering sugaring. I reached out to Annette to discuss with her my concerns,she graciously calmed my nerves and told me she would take great care of me. She explained to me how she is a self taught sugarist with her own technique, so she understands the more sensitive areas and how to remove the hair in the best way with the most ease. I'll admit I was a bit nervous for this was my first time,but Annette did exactly what she said she would,take great care of me! Her environment is awesome, her personality is phenomenal, and her performance is exceptional. If you are looking for a sugarist or wanting to try something new for the first time I recommend Annette at the Seattle Sugar Bar with the highest regard. So first things first, I kinda got lost coming here lol but then they put a big sign up on the 2nd story windows which made it so much easier to find!! Annette, the owner, is amazing! Her personality makes you feel so comfortable and as if you've known her for years. She's genuine and electric. It's a great vibe here!! The sugar she uses is so safe. Being pregnant I have to always make sure what I use has nothing bad for the baby in it and the lemon water and sugar is all organic. My skin feels so smooth after and no ingrown hairs. They really know what they're talking about here so when they told me to exfoliate I did and it sure helped!! The technique she uses is like nothing I've ever had anywhere else. My skin didn't get burned, bruised, or irritated. I've seen some people complain about prices being over $100 which is understandable if you can not afford it. However on this exact page were reviewing on there's a deal where we only pay $70 for a $100 service you can not beat that!! Us women tend to buy fancy expensive things when it comes to hand bags shoes clothes our hair appointments nails etc. so why not have the same mind set when it comes to our precious lady jewels and pay for what an amazing service you're getting. You get what you pay for and I don't know about you ladies and sirs but I wouldn't want my girly parts being hacked up! This place is like a diamond in the rough and is totally worth it! read more

Today was my second time visiting Seattle Sugar Bar, and again I have left a very happy customer! The owner Annette makes it easy to feel at ease, with her professional yet personable attitude and quick, awesome service. She is so easy going, it was like chatting with a friend! She definitely takes pride in her company, her work, and in treating her clients with respect & consideration! Great experience start to finish. Booking online was a breeze. Parking is surprisingly easy to find, and although it is metered it doesn't cost much since the sugaring is so time-efficient! The atmosphere is great -- bright cheery walls, eclectic decor, and delicious smelling candles greet you when you walk in. You can't beat the results and my SUPER sensitive skin is so smooth without any of the horrible side effects of waxing. I have waxed my eyebrows and uh.... *more sensitive areas* for years, but the pain made me avoid it. Now I can enjoy the smooth skin without itchy bumps and welts caused by waxing. If someone had told me a year ago that I would give up waxing, I would have thought they had lost their minds. But now I have, and it's all thanks to the Seattle Sugar Bar. No agonizing anticipation of pain, no going home sore and swollen from wax ripping out hairs and sometimes leaving rash-like scars. This was my first time trying sugaring and as I was getting sugared, I was sort of perplexed, I wasn't really feeling anything except a tug. And I was DEFINITELY sure that my previous experiences with waxing didn't feel like that at all. No pain, no dread. And as the sugarist worked she let me know what she was doing and answered any questions I had. Then before I knew it, she was done. Yes, sugaring takes longer than waxing, but the results are well worth it. I plan on making the Seattle Sugar Bar my new stomping ground for hair removal. I've been going to see Annette for just over a year and every experience has been absolutely wonderful. My skin is super sensitive so when I began the hunt for an alternative to razors and shaving cream I was incredibly skeptical. I decided to give the Seattle Sugar Bar a try based on the excellent reviews. The first time I came in I was visibly nervous and very close to turning tail and running but Annette talked me through the whole process and made me so comfortable that I forgot to be scared! Since then I have seen Annette every 6 weeks or so and I honestly wish my hair would grow back faster just so I can see her again! Not only does Annette know her stuff but she is so refreshingly honest and easy to talk to. The environment she has created in one of a kind and uplifting; she treats you (and your skin!) like royalty and I wouldn't dream of trusting anyone else. I would 100% recommend her to anyone. Annette is amazing. I have been getting Brazilians for years and years...I converted to sugaring a year ago. Annette has major skills and a fun office. Her touch is truly gentle and I love how soft I feel afterwards. The customer service is legendary, there is no one more accommodating. I seen the price mentioned below, and I can say I have never paid that much. Annette is always offering specials, right now I believe it is underarms and a Brazilian for 100.00...small price to pay for the service she provides. I love my lady parts and certainly would prefer quality over price, but Annette provides a total package! I have even taken my husband to her and for as big of a baby as he is, she gets him through the manzilian just fine and he is not scared to return! I have always taken care of my boys before me! Well this year I received a gift certificate & a referral from my close/sister friend for me to finally pamper myself and get my face looking BEAUTIFUL again at the Sugar Bar. The BEST gift to ever give me by FAR! Since my 1st initial appointment I have been going every week to help get my chin back to normal & yesterday I received a complimentary sugar wax for both of my arms from JOEY! Annette trained him well, because my ARMS are FLAWLESS! Thank You FELICIA!! LOL! If you are ever in need of just wanting to get pampered and needing some TLC just to feel pretty again. Ok this was my first time here and I was running late!!(as usual! Lol) however Annette,the owner of the sugar bar was a gracious host for me being...ahum, tardy... She was wonderful to talk to... But then I did most the talking which is normal... I felt immediately at ease while she worked her magic giving me a Brazilian and the only LITTLE pinch I even felt was the first pull, well....maybe a couple others but for the most part if u don't look up this fantastic lady u are crazy!!!! Annette is so amazing. She is literally the only person I would trust doing what she does. She is so professional and so nice. The minute I walked in to her beautiful office, she greeted me with a big smile. She made me feel comfortable right away and that is very important, especially when you are dealing with such sensitive parts of the body. The entire time I was there she was so fun and happy. If you have not sugared before, you are missing out! You will NEVER wax again! Annette is a master in her craft! Sugaring lasts longer, hurts less and is much less harmful to your skin. The owner considers herself a master sugarist and is so beyond full of herself. She will talk down and bully anyone who does not agree with her, even going as far as making fun of people! Every time I have interacted with this place, either in person or on social media, I have seen them be rude, condescending, demanding and demeaning, including talking bad about customers. All this and they aren't even the best around, or even that great. Response to owner: I have reviewed this business stating my experience. Do you guys really have so much experience with people just randomly lying about interacting with your business that you're confident enough to state that a review "will be taken down"? Excellent experience! The owner Annette was the nicest and most friendly woman. She was easy to talk to and I asked a ton of questions and she was delighted to answer each one. She even stated while I was at my appointment how important sugaring is to her. She said she goes to sleep and wakes up thinking about it because it's her passion. I know I chose the right place when I hear the person say that. It was my first time getting sugared and I would have to say the experience was better than I had hoped because of the place I went! So when I came across Seattle Sugar Bar on Yelp & figured I'd give it a try & all I can say is I LOVE Annette, I LOVE Seattle Sugar Bar & I LOVE Sugaring! Ok, first time ever do anything like this. My doctor says I'm allergic to my body hair especially on my back. Had my back, shoulders, and stomach sugared. Won't lie, it had its painful moments. On day two after an hour and a half of sugering I feel great and I don't have the itchiness either. I can't say enough on how nice this is to have the relief without chemicals or medication. Well worth the cash. This is a great, friendly place to go. Will be back in 5 to do it again. Annette say it won't be as bad but if I feel the way I feel now who cares!! I am absolutely AMAZED at the results and the QUALITY SERVICE I received by Annette. I was very hesitant to try at first because of the horror stories I have heard about waxing... which is extremely painful to me! She coached me and before you know I was done! I lover her technique. If you get waxed, I recommend you try sugaring by Annette @ the Federal Way location, its the way to go.. It was fast, clean, private, and very professional. Which is a must for me! I had never had a brazilian of any kind before. I decided to give the Seattle Sugar Bar a go after doing my research. I definately chose the right place. First of all, the owner was so welcoming and immediately put me at ease (I was so scared). Second, she was so fast. Third, it wasn't too painful, nothing like what i expected, maybe a few pulls hurt for half a second. Finally, it was so smooth I couldn't believe it! I was good to go, walking out the door! Annette was awesome!!! Her place is cozy and private. She doesn't announce your business like most places. (Hi! And your here for the sugar bikini correct?) She waits til you are comfortable and in the back to discuss. She makes you feel comfortable, answers all your questions. And she motivates you to make to the end! (I needed it). Annette is the most amazing person, fun and has a big heart. she is truly gifted at what she does, need I say more.. and there is still not enough words in this world to express how wonderful she is... My experience at SSB ... I wish I knew about this technique yeeeeaaarss ago!!! I will never go back to waxing EVER again!! This will definitely put the waxing industry obsolete in future time! OH WOW! I was so incredibly amazed at how great sugaring is! I've tried everything from waxing to tweezing to creams and more, but nothing has ever worked as well as sugaring. No ingrowns, no bleeding, no redness, and very little pain. Plus, Annette makes the experience much more enoyable with clean, comfortable surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere. She did the exact color I was looking for on an acquaintance and they had passed her number along to me. After sending photos of my hair goals, hair inspiration and current hair we set an appointment for 15 February. The morning of the appointment at 0621 she texts to cancel due to illness. I was able to rebook it with her for 5 March, but again on the morning of the appointment she canceled due to lack of childcare. So, after waiting over a month for the appointment I was cancelled twice and did not make a priority to promptly rebook. She offered to talk with a coworker that was available before, which I stated was fine with me. This may have been naïve on my part, but I did assume she would only recommend someone of the same skill level. Cindy promptly reached out after Melissa and I spoke, and offered to book me that same week. I sent the exact photos from Melissa and I's texts to Cindy. My hair goals, hair inspiration and current hair. Which had grown out more while waiting on my appointment for Melissa but manageable. Before my appointment started, and as stated in my text I confirmed I wanted my hair copper/strawberry blonde. The ends of my hair in the photos were my goal, and really, I wanted it to be brought up to my roots. Covering my natural brunette hair. The conversation went well, and there seemed to be comprehension on my color. I could care less about cost, or application to achieve the color. We didn't go into too much detail on that. After she washed the color from my hair, I realized it was a cool blonde, no where close to a warm copper/strawberry blonde. The color also did not go entirely to my roots, and you can see my natural color in places. Cindy stated I was not blonde, "It's the lighting". After some back and forth, she said my hair color wasn't achievable because I had filters on my hair. I directly asked for the color on my ends to be brought up as we spoke in person. There isn't a filter in person, and the current hair photos in our texts had no filter. We stated I wasn't seeing the color correctly and it was what I asked for. I then had to show a photo of my partner and I from that morning, where my color is completely different from the blonde she did. In fact, the blonde matched my partners hair. Only then did she say she could put copper over it and that I wasn't clear on it. Honestly, I felt defeated at this point and agreed if that was our only option, but it still didn't cover my roots or natural color. She said that's normal with foils, they don't go to "The scalp". I was at a loss at this point. The copper she put over the blonde isn't the worst, but it wasn't what I wanted. The haircut was underwhelming. I asked for face framing and layers, even provided photos but it wasn't even close. My bangs and ends were just cut straight across. I didn't go into depth about disappointment with the cut. We had already spent five hours together and the color wasn't going to be savable. She ended up curling my hair, so it wasn't till the next wash that I saw the lack of layers. Thankfully I ended up going to my normal Stylist to fix the cut, but sadly he doesn't do color and was at a loss as well. I found it incredibly unprofessional that I was still charged for the service. I do understand the time and materials, but I'm unhappy with the results. The results are too far off from what I asked for. I wouldn't recommend the salon for any service after this experience.

She was also 45 minutes late to our appointment, texting me that she was late just a few minutes before, while I was already parking. When I told her and the salon owner, Jolene Dittmar, that my scalp was burned, neither took responsibility. Trena want to do yet another correction, which of course I refused. I wasn't going to let her hurt me again. Jolene three weeks later after much back and forth, said she would refund my $200. She did not. She also complained to me that Trena was hard to talk to due to her personality, so she couldn't address it with Trena. My scalp burned for four days, I had sores all over it for three weeks, and it finally is mostly healed now four weeks later. I've never written a bad review of a salon, and certainly never complained. I'm 59 years old, a retired school teacher, I have colored my hair all my adult life, and I NEVER had a scalp problem before. I am reporting to the Cosmetology board and to the state Consumer protection department. Here's exactly what happened: * I booked a full cut, color, and style appointment for warm dark blonde - auburn color. My wavy hair was just longer than my shoulders. I did not have bangs or layers. The color was a light ash blond. We had a text consultation in advance. * Trena changed the appointment time at the last minute, when I was finding parking for the appointment. * Made me wait even longer while she took a consult (non paying!) client. In all, she was about 45 minutes late starting my appointment. She then seemed to have forgetten everything about our text consultation. * Trena left the salon for over 30 minutes while the chemicals were processing, instead of staying and checking on it. * Trena overprocessed the coloring because she was not in the salon, and it was bright orange--the color I said multiple times I wanted to avoid at all costs. I wanted a warm dark blond / brown. It's not auburn or copper or caramel. Day glow orange. Trena reacted very nervously and said we could correct it with a second darker color. * Trena tried to tell me I didn't need a cut, but then said she'd trim following the preexisting lines. She then fushed the cut (spent literally two to three minutes on it) and chopped several very short chunks totally unevenly. The right side ended up with chunks 3-4 inches shorter. One area has a chunk that is 6-8 inches shorter (at my ear level). * Trena then told me to style it myself at the end (!). She seems to be rushing me out. (She probably was.) I ended up leaving with my hair still wet, after sitting (mostly alone) in the salon for three hours. * Did not wash out the dye completely. It was 45 minutes while I drove home, plus 15 minutes in the salon. My scalp was burning. * I washed out dye when I got home. It was absolutely dye, not just normal washout from the hair. I scraped dye off my scalp. * My scalp developed a dozen or more sores from the chemical burn. These did not heal until three weeks later. I only used shampoo twice in that time. I did apply Cera Vie every other day to the scalp (dermatologist recommended). Also, the salon is not spa like at all. Normally, I don't care what a place looks like, but their website very much misrepresents the place. Not only do they NOT STAND BEHIND their work, it is an sparse, uncomfortable environment. I'm 5'4" and if you are shorter, your head won't reach the sinks. Jolene later said they adjust, Trena said they did not adjust, but either way, no one bothered to adjust for me and they were both there during my fiasco. I will try to add a few photos. Price $200+ Stylist Trena Hair Master or Hair Wizard Ansari Yelp is not letting me add photos, but I will do so. I am sure they will write a review using character assassination. Trena basically told me I was lying, Jolene told me she'd refund my $200 and did not, and tried to claim it was an allergic reaction even though I've dyed my hair 40 years without ever having a reaction. They refused to take any responsibility. Not even an apology, though there was a check in by Jolene three weeks later. Note, I am a normal 59 year old, who has never written a review like this, a retired teacher, and I only want to keep others from being hurt. It's now four weeks later, and I still have three sores but mostly healed.
