I used to shop at Seattle Supermarket out of pure convenience, but their customer service and respect for patrons are severely lacking. I've had two highly disappointing incidents recently that made me decide to never return. First was a safety issue. I reached for fresh mushrooms on what looked like a newly installed metal shelf. The edge was incredibly sharp and sliced my finger, causing it to bleed. I approached a young female supervisor/manager at the front (possibly named Ema) not to complain, but to warn them so other customers wouldn't get hurt. Her only response was an indifferent 'Oh.' No apology, no offer of a band-aid or basic first aid. Basic human decency was completely missing. Second was a billing issue. Last week, I bought a bunch of bananas and was double-charged. I didn't notice the receipt until I got home, and since it was only $5.33, I didn't make a special trip back immediately. When I returned a week later and politely brought it up, a cashier called over that same supervisor (Ema). She bluntly refused to help, saying, 'You waited a week, we can't do anything.' I pointed out the mathematical improbability of two separate bunches of bananas weighing the exact same amount down to the cent ($5.33) to prove it was a double-scan error. Her dismissive reply was 'sometimes that happens.' I let it go because I didn't want to argue over a few dollars ('not a big deal' financially), but her defensive attitude made me feel like she suspected I was trying to scam the store over $5. It's not about the money; it's about the principle, common sense, and how you treat your customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Love going here for their tofu and ginger syrup. The service workers are nice! You can buy groceries here to support a local Asian business. We're from the bay area and this is the only Chinese grocery store that has everything we need. The produce is super fresh, clean, and affordable(!). We found weee! to be unreliable and not high quality, so this is now our go-to Chinese grocery store. Sauces, dry goods, kitchenware, fish and meat, produce. The only complaint is there is no bakery section ;) but probably better for my health that way. read more

This is a well-stocked Asian market in Beacon Hill area. It does have its own parking lot, which is convenient, but it can fill up and be congested easily. The store itself has a lot to offer and a lot of variety but I find myself easily overwhelmed in here due to the lack of organization and signage. Or maybe I just haven't figured out their organization system yet. There are designated aisles for categories (produce, sauces, seasonings, etc.) but within those aisles, I'm not sure what's going on. Even when I asked an employee where an item lived, he could only give me a general aisle (is it possible he also doesn't know where things are?). This probably isn't enough to deter me from coming back (cuz the prices are generally really good), but I definitely won't ever come here when I'm pressed for time. read more

UPDATE REVIEW AUG 2021: This store doesn't pass for the customer's price checked or customer's right. Chinese peach for $1.59 TOTAL PRICED (according to their price tags), but the clerk wanted to charge me $3.95 the actual cost at checkout. They claimed it was tag wrong or broken scale. I told them there's more, and they said they would fix it but not honor the price of $1.59 TOTAL PRICED. The cashier pointed at the screen and asked me, "Do you want it?" I replied. "Mmm? No, I will report the incident through my review since you're not honoring the price." An incident like this is not the first time. Where are the prices inspectors? I wonder if the trick price tags scammed their customers who hurry to get out of the store. Please check your prices, and match the items, don't let the store scam you. read more

If you're a fan of crawfish, this is the cheapest place where you can buy them ($12.99 for a 5 lb bag). I think prices on everything they sell is cheaper than any other asian stores regardless. One star off just because of the rusty push carts; it just seems unsanitary and another star off because of the smell that lingers right when you walk towards the entrance. If you're a person that hates anything that smells fishy, this isn't prolly a good place for you. Also, bring a jacket to keep you warm if you're coming here during winter time, because it's going to be freezing inside the store (I don't think they have a heater at all). Oh, one last thing that bothers me is their parking lot & store location. Definitely super sketchy. I'd keep coming here regardless; just for the crawfish and some fresh veggies! I have no business liking this place. I always think about the Little Britain skit with Andy and Lou: Andy: I wanna go swimming. Lou: I thought you didn't like the sea. I thought you said the sea was a dark and brutal force that has dragged many an innocent to a watery grave... Andy: Yeah, I know. This place smells like the sea, if many an innocent had indeed been lost in its watery midst. The smell of fish has been so strong before, I have left before buying what I needed. BUT with that said, I do like that they usually have fresh Chinese long beans (I think the shipments come on Thursdays?) and the price is so good, it's worth running in and out (literally). They also have fresh taro root, daikon, mung beans, and other cheap Asian veggies at a ridiculously good price. Once, they had run out of fresh lemongrass, so I wandered into the freezer section to see if they had any there. Score! Packages upon packages of them, but when I went to pick it up...it was soft, and definitely unfrozen. Food sketchiness to nth degree. It makes me think that the freezers have failed more than a few times, which would definitely explain the smell. I'll continue to stick to the fresh produce, Asian sauces, and dry noodle section. Seattle Supermarket used to be the closest Asian market to our place until 123 market opened. However, because we have a habit of coming here (still convenient) and we do have a certain degree of loyalty to them, we still visit Seattle Supermarket quite frequently. Don't come here for cleanliness or great customer service. OR to be comfortable (It's probably around 45 degrees in the winter...). But yes, come for groceries and shop like you're shopping in a giant refrigerator. Get in. Get out. Prices are very fair and items are usually fresh. Though rumor has it that on occasion they will re-wrap their meats with new labels to make them appear fresher than they are... (By rumor, I mean my mother once watched them...). So maybe come here for the fresh veggies, fruits, and canned/packaged foods then. read more

Small Chinese Supermarket on Beacon Hill...Pretty basic except for the Frozen Seafood Section which is hands down the best in the city. Shrimp, Squid, Whole Amber Jacks or White Snappers you name it they got it. Also a good selection of Frozen Dumplings. Terrible customer service. Found a piece of stringy black hair on unopened meat. Attempted to return after purchasing or requesting to swap, spoke with manager and was told meat cannot be returned because of store policy. Spoke w/ manager and let them know receipt says "Unopened meat returnable within 24 hours after purchase." Manager looked confused and said that is store policy. Again, I pointed out policy on THEIR receipt they gave me after purchase saying unopened meat is returnable. Manager said refund cannot be done. BEWARE read more

Jammed packed parking lot and I almost parked across the street in the median. The lot is like a demolition derby. Inside, there are lots of different produce and food items, but the place is still pretty run down and a bit smelly. I think it's always been like that, but maybe a little bit more so now. Some of the things are cheaper than other places, but the line to pay is ridic. The checkers are only in a couple of spots and are pretty slow. The line often weaves around the front of the store and is a pretty good deterrent for me buying anything. read more

I love this store! I usually shop at Ba Mien on MLK, not anymore after going here!! Parking lot is a decent size, little tricky to get to due to the location. I recommend coming during a weekday. The variety of everything in the store is so awesome! There is no stench coming from the meat/seafood department. It is very clean and the isles have plenty of room and are not cramped. The produce selection is amazing they have such a great variety, everything looks so fresh and delicious and they have proper labels (which I really appreciate). Stuff some cotton up your nostrils and shut up. Now you're ready to go on an adventure of the eyes (if not smell) and taste bud temptations. There's meat, poultry, gobs of seafood (fresh & frozen) and garden-fresh Asian vegetables galore, of which 2/3 you will not be able to recognize. Trust me. But so what? You're not going there to give your snooty critique on what an Asian grocery market should look or smell like? Just come prepared and plan to spend some time there, because there is a lot to take in and many cubby holes to peek into. And please, don't EVEN try to figure out the shelving and isles organization. Silly person, that only shows your uninitiated. The regulars KNOW how to do it. These kind of stores are fascinating to me, as an English-only speaker, I can often not figure out what the products are, but that doesn't stop me from buying them and making my husband try them first. The staff is nice here, the store is clean-ish, the selection - for what looks like a mini-mart from the street- is quite extensive. There is a parking lot on Beacon I was relieved to know and found what I wanted -at a reasonable price, much cheaper than Safeway/etc, but a bit more than Viet Wah. read more

What else do you expect? It's a typical Chinese grocery store. It's dirty and busy on the afternoon weekends full of busy (and sometimes loud) Chinese people. You walk inside and you could tell cleanliness and looks of the place isn't the top priority. My family and I have been coming here for the past 3-4 years weekly on Sunday after church because Tacoma doesn't offer these kind of goods that you can get up in Seattle. So, we buy our Chinese groceries at Seattle Supermarket. The biggest benefit of shopping here are the low prices. Compare the prices of apples and other fresh produce with other large-chain grocery stores like Safeway or QFC and you'll find them vastly cheaper here, sometimes saving you 30%-50% of the original price. That's probably why a lot of thrifty asians like to shop here. The other benefit of shopping at Seattle Supermarket instead at Chinatown is they have their own private parking lot: you don't have to scramble for parking in Chinatown. The downside: like I mentioned earlier, it's not very clean, so don't expect it to be like Uwajimaya in Seattle international district or like QFC where everything is displayed neatly and the floor is always swept clean. Another downside: The fish is fine there, but don't buy the meat. It's not the best quality, I recommend going to Safeway or Costco for USDA choice products. I love this place. Smelly aisles, crowded check out lines, barely any parking, okay customer service. This place is seriously unbeatable especially in price. I love how I can leave this grocery store with 6 large grocery bags and pay less than $100 each time. I come here especially for the shrimp and seafood as well as veggies. So much asian variety for my asian taste buds. I love their well stocked aisles of seasonings, sauces, fermented bean pastes, duck eggs, turtle, fresh fish, meats, dried goods and so on. Whenever I am in the area I always try to come this this place up. Its an awesome grocery to buy your food from especially if you are tight on budget. When I make fresh noodles at home this is my go to store for all the supplies, like fresh cilantro, cabbage, ox tails, quail eggs, and so on. You can find a lot of things in here especially for asian dishes. But if you can get over parking in the median and walking across the street and the beat up shopping carts and smell you will drive home with a trunk full of groceries and your pocket will be happy! read more

I love this super market. I have been going here since I was in middle school. Although it is conveniently located on the corner of Colombian Way and Beacon, it is rather busy. Very hard to get parking when it's on Saturday's or peak hours. Nonetheless, they have very dependable groceries. They always fresh meats, veggies, and seafood. Very reliable. Their check outs kind of suck because the lines loop crazily and around and inside isles. But they are fast, and very nice! read more

I grew up near this place; in fact my parents still live nearby so this is a grocery store that I still frequent quite often. I use to go here when it was Les-T as an American grocery store and not an Asian grocery store like it is currently. They always have a good selection of Asian staples, decent meats and good produce. If you're looking for that 50 lb bag of rice or the special brand of soy or oyster sauce, this is the place to go. I always tend to make a stop here when I'm visiting my parents. read more

My parents used to scold me when I come here since it's so much more expensive than Hau Hau. It was set in their minds that I paid with my soul in order to buy anything from here. I must say... they were sort of right... i still have my soul though :) After soo many years, their minds are finally changed. This place actually have competitive prices and many times, a lot more selection than the reputable cheap Hau Hau. Another Asian supermarket I've been going to since they first opened up. I will say, this place isn't as busy as it used to be. Especially with having to compete with Fou Lee just across the street. But I will say that I still go here to get meats. Especially pork butt, which I had to buy to make some Kahlua Pork. This is my favorite type of meat to also cook pork adobo and sinigang. You can't find pork butt at Fou Lee, only shoulder. Another thing here is that they have seafood. Thinking to support a small, local market I purchased myself a couple packets of beef short ribs. Simple easy to BBQ meat. Took them home, threw them onto the grill, slathered some sauce on them...all was good until we attempted to bite into them...we couldn't. They were tough, gnarly pieces of meat . If I wanted to contract a foreign virus or disease, then yeah, I'd shop here all the damn time. But I don't because I value my immunity. Truth of the matter is, this is your typical Asian market. It has food. No one said it'd all be good. The prepackaged stuff is okay if that's your thing. Produce is hit or miss. You don't really know what you'll get there in terms of quality. Meats and fish are...frightening. This being the Northwest, especially in Seattle, the flavor palette is a little different. So you will find some things in this department that are out of the ordinary. (Turtles...really?!?! I know it's a delicacy in some cultures...but really?!) Their meat cutting room, visually speaking, is less than sanitary. Back in the day, I've spotted some employees handling meat and packaging it without gloves and some other crazy crap. The fish tanks are...dirty doesn't really begin to describe it. To see fish swimming around in their own waste and to see people subsequently purchase those same live fish is unsettling. Not the most sanitary place in the world. I've come to expect that from Asian markets. Don't know why they wouldn't want to change that but it seems to be a commonality amongst all the stores. If you drive anything larger than a midsize sedan, you may be SOL. It seems like the parking lot wasn't designed with larger vehicles in mind. Average Chinese supermarket. Don't expect too much. They deliver exactly what you're expecting cheap prices and a great location. I'm just glad their parking lot is big enough for all the dumb drivers to be dumb in their own area away from my car. Right off the 36 bus line too. Probably the best thing is that they get banh mi's delivered earlier in the day and resell them for basically nothing. They're located at the front of the store near the very first register you walk past. Also, they get deliveries from Delite Bakery. I am culturally competent having lived in SE Seattle for 30 years so understand the nature and ambiance of an Asian meat and produce market. I have eaten meat from a Kenyan butcher (half a cow hanging in the heat covered with flies) so not as squeamish as some. This market is what it is and is not the top of Asian inspired markets in Seattle. So if I am so smart why did I spend time parking and navigating the crowed parking lot and aisles to buy a box of birthday candles? . After my weekly trip to MacPherson's for produce, I made a stop at Seattle Supermarket to pick up some ground pork for the Chinese Sticky Rice I was trying to make. Found the ground pork, and also picked up a super cheap pork butt for pulled pork sandwiches. I've also been on the hunt for Chinese bacon as an addition to my rice and lo and behold, this place had it! Also grabbed some chicken wings since they were already cut up, and were cheaper than the local Safeway. Pretty large fish department, but I wouldn't know what to do with some of that stuff. The place is a little stinky and unclean, and might not be up to other people's standards. It would help if there was at least one staffer who could understand the butchered Chinglish that I was trying to convey regarding some other root kind of vegetable that I was looking for. It was so cheap that I bought both products and won't feel bad if I pitch one of them. If you live in West Seattle and don't want to go down to Chinatown or over to White Center, this is the place. read more

西雅圖超級市場 is the name of the store in Chinese. Good location in Beacon Hill. Has Chinese and some Vietnamese goods. Vegetables and meat are average quality. Floors are dirty and the store is somewhat smelly. The location is cold inside the store so it is best to wear a coat and dress warm. Parking is scarce and narrow. Cantonese and Vietnamese speaking grocery store. Feels like I am in overseas while shopping there. If the store is remodeled, i think this store would generate more good reviews. read more

It's convenient and they have most of the essentials, as well as a decent selection of sea creatures and land mammals. The fruits and veggies are very seasonal and availability is price sensitive (supplier price). However, overall their prices are a bit more than the places in/near Chinatown. I would avoid the ungraded beef unless you're making a stew or braising. Park in the median area ans run in if the lot is packed. read more

2.5 stars. I like the fact that this place is close to home. They have a little parking lot that I can almost always find parking in. I come here often for quick grabs for my Asian ingredients. They have a good selection of spices and snacks. Most of their veggies are in good condition. The onions have been a bit disappointing lately though. When walking into the market the stench of seafood and meat hits. I have gone to plenty of Asian grocery stores so it doesn't necessarily disgust me but it does smell a little more here than other places. The meat is decently priced. I typically only buy chicken breast/thighs and ox tail here and go to American markets for better cuts of pork or beef. Dress warm during winter! Sometimes it feels like it's warmer outside than in. Overheard the cashier tell the customer that their freezer doors tend to have air escape. Also the refrigeration and meats aisles take up at least 1/3 of the store. read more

I have been shopping at this store for almost ten years now. While the place smells like a fish market, I find the meats very fresh...never any preservative....My daughter also shops for the majority of her meats here...the selection is quite limited, but for what they have to offer, I think the quality is great!!!...The ground beef, is ground fresh twice daily.....for much less than the 90% lean at the grocery store....the flavor is always good, because of no preservatives....I do buy specialty items there as well, such as my cooking oils....and some vegetables..... read more

Busy Chinese and Vietnamese supermarket that has a variety meats, produce and vegetables department. Good prices of fruits and vegetables at times. Some parts of the supermarket are dirty with a bunch of dust and stuff. Cashiers are nice. Store gets cold when the doors are open during the day. Parking lot is packed during rush hour, but sometime you can get a descent space in the morning and evening hours before they open and close. read more

If you can get past the smell in the parking lot coming from the store's dumpsters, you are treated to the slightly less rancid smell inside of the under refrigerated, expired meat and fish. Bless the stomachs of the people that get their food here, they must be rock solid, I couldn't even drink the water I bought because the plastic smelled like 3 week old meat.
