    Chinese deli

Every time I went to Maruta, I saw people bought the Chinese deli & they got a lot of food. However when I went there recently & I bought it, they only gave me so little compared to what I've seen people were getting. So disappointed.

If you're a Seattleite, you know about Maruta Shoten in Georgetown. They have the best California Rolls in Seattle and if you go during their Happy Hour at 5pm, it's 50% off. If I come during the lunch time, I also love to get a Chinese Deli Combo at their Hot Foods Bar. Make sure you pick up some Chicken Wings and Croquettes. And if you go on other side, you can do all your grocery shopping and find all your Asian ingredients. They have an extensive ramen aisle as well as sauces. The staff are so nice here and I love talking to everyone at the Hot Foods area. This is one of my favorite grocery stores and I always stop in when I'm in Georgetown.

Checked this spot out while I was in the city. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a cool spot!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Has lots of fresh food and hot food you can order. I just came back from Japan and this place def had some things that I saw in Japan which was nice. I tried their salmon bento box, and the cream puffs. It was yummy! I would def come back and try other things!!

Asian quickie mart in Georgetown! Ive been frequenting Maruta Shoten for years. Its my go to stop for a quick take out lunch fix since I have an office in the area. A nice variety of ready made sushi and sashimi to choose from. They also have a take out counter for hot foods panda garden style. I will usually grab sashimi and some pre-made grilled fish for lunch. The market has some Asian staples but not is not a full on grocery store. More of a grab and go situation!

Whenever I'm in Georgetown, I make it a point to stop by Maruta Shoten. I enjoy their hot bar and chicken karaage by the pound. The sushi and miso cod are good options too! The garlic wings are next on my list.

Another Georgetown hidden gem! This Asian grocery store has a deli counter and serves bento boxes, fried food, sushi, and even Chinese deli items. They have really good prices on food and definitely more bang for the buck. For lunch, I picked up a tray of the mixed sashimi, 1/2 lb of chicken kaarage, and spicy tuna and salmon poke. The karaage was crunchy and still piping hot. The sashimi plate was also fresh and decent sized slices. The poke bowl was a good portion and had edamame, seaweed salad, onions, and tobiko. In addition to deli items, this is a full grocery with decent selection of sauces, noodles, teas, and other goods. This store reminds me of Shima's Supermarket in Waimanalo. Service was friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have outdoor high tables for dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is available.

Side quest of the day: stopping by Maruta Shoten. I mainly came for their deli items, which included everything from sushi and poke to a variety of hot and cold dishes. I was craving poke and got the spicy tuna, it was only $10! It's not as saucy as what you'd find at typical poke spots, but the fish quality was really good. I also tried the sushi rolls, and they tasted freshly made as in the rice was still soft. The karaage had great flavor, though since it was sitting under the heat lamp, it lost some of its crispiness, I'd recommend tossing it in the air fryer at home. Service was great and quick! Everything seemed reasonably priced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The grocery store itself was cool and gave off that authentic Japan feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely a fun little stop if you're in the area.

Bentos and sushi - IG @bougiefoodieboi

This is a Japanese grocery store that is most famous for their bento boxes and sushi. They have happy hour after 5pm for 50% bento and sushi which is a crazy good deal, since the bento boxes cost no more than $10 to begin with and large enough for a meal!!! Prices shown below are regular price, so imagine 50% off - Salmon bento ($9.25) - salmon is dry but flavorful. Rice is good, and they have tamago which is nice. - Chicken karaage ($8.99) - well seasoned, not the best but satisfies my cravings adequately. The egg is hard boiled. Mac salad is okay. The potato croquette was so good. Pickles and sweet potato were okay. - California roll ($5.45) - 6 large pieces. The sushi rice is too vinegary but the imitation crab is pretty good. Dipping it with the soy sauce and ginger enhances the food. - Washington roll ($7.45) - 6 large pieces. Salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber. The rice here is better and the salmon is quite fresh. I love this roll. - Egg Fu-Young with rice ($5.25) - egg, imitation crab, flour. Relatively simple and inexpensive to make but still hits the spot. They do limit the bentos to 5 a person which is nice since the 50% off makes these items' prices too good to be true. Imagine $3-5 for a meal made beautifully with lots of variety! With this rule, there were still plenty of bentos available even at 5:15pm (revisiting the area after a 20 min line to checkout) All of the above for less than $20 after tax!! 4 filling meals. All you need to do is microwave 60-90 seconds (as they recommend if you microwave with the container directly) and you can enjoy the bento, since they're served cold. Downsides are parking can fill up quickly as people visit ahead of time in anticipation of happy hour pricing but there's another lot next to it (separate entrance from the street) that had ample parking. And also 5pm is a small window since they close at 6pm and for most including me, I had to brave rush hour traffic which is especially disgusting on Thursdays. Food is 3/5 but value is 100/10 so it's really hard to not give a 5 stars. Prices felt like I am back in a 7/11 or FamilyMart or Lawson in Japan except that I didn't need to book a flight and fly many hours to get there!

Great Japanese grocery store that carries lots of Japanese goods, groceries, and prepared food. I came here specifically for the prepared food section as I heard it was big and fairly affordable. I was shocked at how much variety they had! They have rice, bowls, sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, etc. I was there around 11 AM on a Saturday and there were lots of options. I settled on a bento box that came with a few pieces of sushi, chicken karaage, mac salad, a croquette, rice, and a few other things - all for $8.99! This was a perfect bento box to eat for lunch - I was very satisfied with the portion. I did some shopping as well and thought the grocery prices were fair. I will definitely be back again!

What an absolute gem this place is. Top tier quality sushi at a great price is not something you experience often. Masquerading as an unassuming grocery store this place has a wide selection of rolls, Sashimi and Bento. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was in and out quickly due to my 2 year old but next time I will be taking a full lap to get the total scope of everything offered at this swiss army Japanese market.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Stopped by here on our drive back from Seattle and wanted to check this place out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The market was small but had plenty to offer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's plenty of parking behind the building. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon entering the store, we noticed the store is divided into two sections with one going towards hot/cold foods while the other side is your typical grocery essentials.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We immediately head straight to the hot and cold food section. We came around lunch time and there were plenty of bentos selections for easy grab and go. There was also a small ordering counter for hot foods. The workers were friendly and assisted us right away. We decided to try their fresh made karaage and katsudon. For the cold foods section, we were having a hard time choosing what to get. So we decided to get a variety of bentos and a California roll to try. Overall, the prices were very reasonable and the quality were fresh. We definitely bought too much on our first trip but it was a great splurge! I do like this concept similar to Hawaii. I'm so glad this place has so many Japanese food options especially if I want something quick. I will definitely come back again whenever I'm around the area.

    Nigiri options

I remember when I first discovered Maruta Shoten. It was pre pandemic. I would always drive passed and was always curious to know what this place was. I decided to walk in one day and to my surprise it was one of those gems I only told a select few people about. It was great then and is still great even now. What is it? It's a local Japanese market that carries a variety of Japanese goods and groceries. Some you may find at other local groceries and some you may find at Asian specific markets. As well as food for take out. What I mainly go here for? I come for the ready made/packaged food and take out as well as their hot bar. More specificly if you're into sushi like sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. If you're into bentos and dons( rice bowls with accoutrements) The quality of the food is satisfyingly good in relation to the time it takes to get your food, pay and leave to be on your merry way. My go to items to get here are the packages nigiri to go as well as the packaged aburi salmon sushi to go. I do recommend coming around noon or slightly earlier. Try to make it before the rush to increase your chances of a better selection. It's risky but they do have a happy hour near close in where they discount the remaining items. You just might be disappointed at your options.

I used to shop at Seattle Supermarket out of pure convenience, but their customer service and…read morerespect for patrons are severely lacking. I've had two highly disappointing incidents recently that made me decide to never return. First was a safety issue. I reached for fresh mushrooms on what looked like a newly installed metal shelf. The edge was incredibly sharp and sliced my finger, causing it to bleed. I approached a young female supervisor/manager at the front (possibly named Ema) not to complain, but to warn them so other customers wouldn't get hurt. Her only response was an indifferent 'Oh.' No apology, no offer of a band-aid or basic first aid. Basic human decency was completely missing. Second was a billing issue. Last week, I bought a bunch of bananas and was double-charged. I didn't notice the receipt until I got home, and since it was only $5.33, I didn't make a special trip back immediately. When I returned a week later and politely brought it up, a cashier called over that same supervisor (Ema). She bluntly refused to help, saying, 'You waited a week, we can't do anything.' I pointed out the mathematical improbability of two separate bunches of bananas weighing the exact same amount down to the cent ($5.33) to prove it was a double-scan error. Her dismissive reply was 'sometimes that happens.' I let it go because I didn't want to argue over a few dollars ('not a big deal' financially), but her defensive attitude made me feel like she suspected I was trying to scam the store over $5. It's not about the money; it's about the principle, common sense, and how you treat your customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Revisiting it always feels special. The market looks small from the outside, but don't be fooled--it's surprisingly spacious inside with plenty to browse. The parking lot has limited spots so be prepared to circle or wait briefly. We stopped in just to browse and do some spontaneous shopping, and of course left with more than planned. I was thrilled to find a DIY taho kit (includes sago and arnibal) and grabbed two right away. A tub of Magnolia ube ice cream and banana turons were calling my husband's name, so those came back to the hotel with us too. If we hadn't already eaten, we would've grabbed lunch there--the food smelled so inviting. The cashier was especially lovely--friendly, chatty, and engaging with everyone in line. That kind of warm customer service is refreshing and definitely deserves recognition. We left fully content, happy to revisit a familiar place and score a few fun impulse finds. Fou Lee Market continues to be a comforting, nostalgic stop that never disappoints. Update: The banana turon was really good. Super crunchy exterior with sugar that hardened into a crisp shell instead of turning gooey. Inside was a whole banana, not mushy or overcooked or dry, which gave it great texture. I wasn't a fan of the dinuguan due to my flavor preference. We did enjoy the bbq sticks. And my man loved the freshly fried chicken skins here. But on our last visit, our food had "friends" or additional protein included. And so unfortunately, we threw away everything we purchased that day. The tough part is the little critters were on our bbq sticks which were pulled out from the display area under the heat lamps. And that was very concerning for me. So sad to say due to this, we won't be going back. I hate to even leave this review but I'll always be honest about all experiences. Good or bad. The store's far larger than I'd imagined and carries far more stuff. The produce dept. got me right away when I found GREEN lemongrass (almost impossible to find in my county), black garlic, large fresh ginger--and garlic scapes (they call it spring garlic). I was especially hoping to find garlic scapes since I just discovered them and have already found a great stir-fry recipe for them. A also bought some soy sauces along with an XO sauce that are hard to find in regular supermarkets. Yes, I already have stir-fry plans for all of them. There's far more food stuff I could've bought but the question that decided me against it was "Who else in the house will eat it other than me?" The meats pre-sliced for Korean/Japanese dishes tempted me but were pricey. Besides I own a meat slicer. The one thing I didn't find which was my sole disappoint was Shaoxing wine, a Chinese rice win. They carried the cooking version but not the drinking one. Contrast that with shelves filled with Japanese sakes. I prefer Shaoxing for stir-fry dishes and already have some at home so the disappoint wasn't too great. We rarely get to Seattle so it'll be a while until we re-visit the store. The good news is that a new Uwajimaya will open in Tacoma next year. We plan to shop there a lot more often. Definitely a store worth visiting even if you don't cook Asian dishes. they carry all kinds of cooking stuff--including woks, rice makers, and lots of gadgets. Our son's friend even bought travel chopsticks. I told him he'll be required to whip those out at our next Chinese stir-fry dinner. He better like black garlic and garlic scapes.

I asked for my eggs scrambled which is what I got, and it also was a little bland while also having the gravy more than make up for the lack of taste.
