The flavors are bold, funky, and packed with umami definitely on the "stinky in the best way" side, which is exactly how I like it. Some days it's a hit or miss if i'm going to be honest, like for the papaya salad it's like they don't put enough padaek but 9 times out of 10 they do it good. The spot itself is tucked inside a small grocery store, which gives it a really homey, lowkey vibe. It's not fancy at all, but that's part of the charm you're here for the food, and it delivers every time. Came here to pick up some tom khao poon and Lao sausage. The customer service was great! The person taking orders on the restaurant side was also the cashier for the grocery store. The Lao sausage was really flavorful and huge. It came with sticky rice and jeow sam. The tom khao poon was a huge bowl serving! It came with lots of liquids and thin shredded papaya. I was hoping it came with eggplant, but it didn't. I also bought really expensive pork rinds to eat with it. I think the pork rinds was $6.99. I'll definitely be back to try their pak sien. I recommend grabbing a jar of the chili crisp if you're a spice fiend - it's probably one of the spiciest chili crisps I've had. The grocery store always has some cool snacks and staple ingredients. I've tried a few dishes (off the top of my head, the pad lao and another rice dish). The flavor profile is good but the dish may be slightly too mellow for me. It could also just be my palate and first exposure to Laotian cuisine as well. The Thai green iced tea is pretty good. Service is so friendly, and they're happy to explain dishes to you if you're not familiar with Laotian cuisine, like me. Updating my review because I love the jerky and have come back multiple times just for the jerky. The pork/beef jerky is very consistent in terms of texture and flavor. Their tomato salsa that accompanies the jerky is spicy and slightly painful, but so addicting! The sticky rice comes packed in a plastic wrap. I like to eat it by peeling away the wrap and taking a bite out of the rice like it's a burrito. It's a really easy and tasty meal to take on the go. If I ever get tired of the jerky, I'd love to try more of their menu items. If you can't tell from my review, I highly recommend trying their jerky! read more

First time stopping in the other day we were looking for some sauces for grilled meat. We were greeted warmly as we entered. As usual we poked around and found a lot of things we hadn't tried before as a snack or for cooking. Also our dog Paloma loves a little pork floss with her food so we keep that in stock always. They had everything from shelf stable snacks and fresh produce to a selection of cold drinks. We love a small market experience-- in a weird way the more focused selections of ingredients and products makes it easier for me to decide on what to try since I'm less familiar with everything. Looking at other reviews we clearly missed out on the restaurant side of the operation so I'll let those reviews speak to the food but I'll probably follow this review up later as we're adding this market to our usual rotation. read more

Love this little grocery store/restaurant - I come here to order party trays, just recently I ordered a large banana and taro sticky rice dessert. My husband also really enjoys their Laos sausages so I normally pick the frozen one up and make them at home! Lao style papaya salad has fermented mud fish paste that makes it pungent, a lil salty but flavorful, balanced out with some sweetness and tangy and I like how they add Thai eggplant, tomato, and green beans, I like to add crab in it -I'm addicted to it because they make it like how it's supposed to taste - 3 star has mild spice to me. read more

One of the best Lao grocery stores I've been to. They are a restaurant and grocery store combined into one. I've been here with my parents before but I decided to take my boyfriend here since we both were craving Lao food and I didn't want to make it at home. We got Nam Khao, Papaya Salad, and Khao Niew (Sticky Rice) to eat with it. The papaya salad was so rich with padaek and the right amount of spiciness. The nam khao was pretty crispy but could've been seasoned a bit more with spices. Both items were in good portions. We ordered in the front and dined in, then paid at the register. At the grocery store portion, I got Sai Oua(Lao Sausage) and Sakoo Yat Sai to take home to eat. Their Sai Oua was humongous and I could taste every ingredient. The Sakoo Yat Sai was delicious as usual, I like the filling. If you are looking for authentic Lao food Vientiane Grocery is the way to go! read more

I really, really wanted to love Vientiane as it's clearly a locally owned spot, but I tried the Lao Sausage and was unfortunately unimpressed. Pricing was a little high for the amount of food you got and all the entrees will drop you at least 16-18 bucks, with some options higher than that. I personally thought the lemongrass flavor completely overpowered the sausage and didn't end up finishing my choice. Maybe their other options are stellar, but unfortunately the most popular item let me down. Logistically, there's a huge lot out front and Vientiane is part Laotian convenience store and part small restaurant with 6-8 tables. In the market, it's mostly a variety of unique SE Asian spices and seasonings and a very small selection of vegetables and frozen proteins. They also sell some snacks and clothes as well. read more

Great place! I got the Nam Khao, which is amazing, pretty sure you're supposed to make little burritos out of this using the lettuce leaves as wrappers. Nummy bro! Also got the fresh rolls (pork), which are totally different than the Vietnamese ones I've had. The wraps are thicker and more chewy, which might sound weird but it's excellent. And the dipping sauce is a sweet fish sauce, which also might sound funny but it totally works. I actually like these better than the usual Vietnamese BBQ pork ones you find around here. Also they came with a little dime baggie full of minced peanuts, so you're like carefully doling out your score onto these delish rolls. One of my favorite places in the south end!!! I don't know how bad I'd miss this place being so close to me till I moved away, but the drive is always worth it! Its a tiny Laos grocery store but they also have a restaurant tucked in. I'm so glad they moved to a bigger shop (and it's just across the street) which makes parking a lot easier. They have a variety of food they offer ranging from pad Thai, fried fish, to papaya salad and soup. I ALWAYS come here for their papaya salad, it's so much better than getting it in the restaurants because they actually have flavor and they pack a lot for your money. 4.5 star place! I have a soft spot for these grocery/eatery establishments! You get dinner and can do some shopping all at once! This place seems to be a pretty legit from what i gather. Food is pretty amazing! Stuff tried Nam khao: (lao fried sticky rice). I am addicted to this. Comes with lettuce and cilantro to make wraps out of. Bits of fermented sausage are so yummy! Lao spicy sausage with sticky rice: not very spicy, has a nice sour flavor as it is fermented. So good with sticky rice! Grilled chicken with sticky rice: chicken is marinated in some spices (turmeric? ) that give it a very nice flavor. The ubiquitous sticky rice is also great with Beef jerky with sticky rice: sweet and savory flavor. This is another favorite laotian dish that i always get! I cut it up with scissors for easier sharing. Papaya salad with fermented crab: funky in a good way, probably the spiciest thing tried! Chicken soup with noodles and blood cake: so good! Reminds me of the soup i grew up with. Great flavor that can only come from bone in chicken. This is great for cold days or if you are under the weather! Extra props for being crazy affordable. All of this food plus some extra sticky rice was just over $60. Insanely affordable and so much food three hungry adults didnt finish it. read more
