Vientiane Grocery is truly a hidden gem for Lao cuisine in Seattle. I've been grabbing food from here since I was a kid, and it's honestly the closest thing that reminds me of "home." Every dish I've had is fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced, which keeps me coming back again and again. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, making the experience even better, though seating is limited. Definitely a spot I'll continue visiting for years to come!

The Lao sausage and Khao Piak continues to be my go to here. I got it to go this time and the packaging was great for takeout. The khao piak is so comforting and the Lao sausage is consistently good. FYI, they are closed from Oct 6 - Nov 11

Great local spot for Asian groceries and food made to order at the mini restaurant. I recommend grabbing a jar of the chili crisp if you're a spice fiend - it's probably one of the spiciest chili crisps I've had. The grocery store always has some cool snacks and staple ingredients. I've tried a few dishes (off the top of my head, the pad lao and another rice dish). The flavor profile is good but the dish may be slightly too mellow for me. It could also just be my palate and first exposure to Laotian cuisine as well. The Thai green iced tea is pretty good. Service is so friendly, and they're happy to explain dishes to you if you're not familiar with Laotian cuisine, like me. They also have some rotating ready-made desserts at the cashier, my favorite being khao nom kok, mini rice flour and coconut cream cakes.

Khao piek - get Chinese donut on side!'n

MUST TRY. So authentic. I got the khao piek and it was delicious. Add Chinese donut on side it soo good together. Also tried the Lao sausage with sticky rice and the ribs. All so good. Customer service was great!

Bigger menu than expected! Service was fast, will update when I get home. Happened to find some gao with taro for dessert, yum! Looking forward to frequenting this little shop a lot more often for takeout and groceries.

The food is always great. They prepare it quickly and they are sweet. Recommend the short ribs and lao sausage. (Spicy is very spicy)

I tried the papaya salad, larb, egg rolls, Nan-Wan, grilled pork, and sticky rice. While it's technically a grocery store, it definitely feels like the restaurant side is the main attraction. The spot has that cozy, hole-in-the-wall vibe, and the food gives off a real home-cooked feel, which I really enjoyed. That said, I've had better papaya salad and larb at other places in the city, which is the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Still, everything was solid overall, and it's definitely a place I'd come back to.

Pad Thai has decent portion for a good price. Noodles cooked perfectly, firm yet chewy. Lao style papaya salad has fermented mud fish paste that makes it pungent, a lil salty but flavorful, balanced out with some sweetness and tangy and I like how they add Thai eggplant, tomato, and green beans, I like to add crab in it -I'm addicted to it because they make it like how it's supposed to taste - 3 star has mild spice to me.

Tasty hole in the wall place. Saw they do lots of party platters as well. Food is tasty but the crispy rice is beyond tasty! Hits all the flavor and texture. Susage is great as well. They sell frozen one in the back. Beef jerky is a little lacking tho. Service is quick and friendly.

    Nam Khao and Papaya Salad

One of the best Lao grocery stores I've been to. They are a restaurant and grocery store combined into one. I've been here with my parents before but I decided to take my boyfriend here since we both were craving Lao food and I didn't want to make it at home. We got Nam Khao, Papaya Salad, and Khao Niew (Sticky Rice) to eat with it. The papaya salad was so rich with padaek and the right amount of spiciness. The nam khao was pretty crispy but could've been seasoned a bit more with spices. Both items were in good portions. We ordered in the front and dined in, then paid at the register. At the grocery store portion, I got Sai Oua(Lao Sausage) and Sakoo Yat Sai to take home to eat. Their Sai Oua was humongous and I could taste every ingredient. The Sakoo Yat Sai was delicious as usual, I like the filling. If you are looking for authentic Lao food Vientiane Grocery is the way to go!

The hype is well-deserved. Ordered two noodle soups, spicy Lao sausage, and nam khao from the grocery store restaurant to bring home. Everyone raved!

He didn't have to do that and it was such a kind and generous offer. What a genuine and caring establishment. Also that matzo ball soup was better than my Jewish grandmother's! Bonus: this spot is kosher! Potato Latkes (5/5): These latkes are thick boys and fried up so they're piping hot when they hit the table. Because of their size, you really get the contrast of the hard crunch on the outside with super fluffy potato inside. So good we immediately turned around and ordered more. Chocolate Babka (2/5): This was truly the only miss I've had here. Unfortunately, the babka just really dries out after it's been sliced, which is a shame because it's just gorgeous with generous swirls of chocolate inside. Reuben (5/5): I really thought their pastrami couldn't be beat, but the brisket is dare I say better? Just as tender and feels a bit less fatty, so it's a little more crushable. Tip: go for the seeded rye over the marbled rye; something about the marbled rye just falls apart a bit more with the juices of the meat, though it's still delicious! Black & White Cookies (4/5): I expected this to be cloyingly sweet, but this was actually scrumptious with some fresh lemon flavor in the cookie itself. Absolutely massive as well.

I'd heard they were good, but holy smokes, I didn't realize they would be *that* good. Here are my recommendations: - Get the Tatstrami. Its combination of flavors is so freaking good. - Order online and then sweep in and pick it up. Since the place does most of its business during lunchtime, there's always a line and this is a way to skip that. If you want to venture beyond a pastrami sandwich, I highly recommend the chicken cheesesteak. While I normally opt for beef when it comes to cheesesteaks, Tat's actually isn't amazing but their chicken one is. So get that instead. In short, this is tied with Dingfelders for the best sandwich in Seattle. Pay it a visit and bring your appetite.
