Our family of six came for a tour today and LOVED IT. When we arrived we went to check in, and we were dismayed to discover that our reservation - that I thought I made over a month ago- didn't go through. But they were SO kind and let us go anyway. The tour and ride was incredibly informative and entertaining. The guides are the real deal. They are engaging and friendly and know everything- because they've actually done the race several times. This is the family you've read about and watched movies and documentaries. Fantastic.

Had to rearrange our travel plans due to some cruise ship rescheduling and so glad we checked this place out during our extended time in Seward! The dogs are adorable, excited and well cared for. The ride is beautiful and scenic, and who could be mad at cuddling puppies? Definitely check them out!

Except for a snafu in the booking process (the company we booked with, Alaska Pursuit told us one day and Seavey's another), we loved everything about our tour. Informative, entertaining, and fun. We learned about the history of the Iditarod, how the dogs are trained, etc. Best part was cuddling the puppies! We also got to experience a two mile sled trip. Would definitely recommend if you are in Seward!

My daughter's favorite part of our entire trip to Alaska. She already wants to go back.

We booked the tour expecting to love on some puppies and go for a ride, but the experience was so much more than that for us. The tour guide, Kathy, was amazing-she was informative and funny. She readily answered questions and provided additional information. Our musher, Hunter, was also extremely knowledgeable about all things dog sled racing related. It was easy to see throughout the process that these dogs are well loved and taken care of. There was a mutual respect between the dogs and all of the people who work there. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone in the area, especially if you love dogs. Our daughter, 5, has decided this was the highlight of our trip thus far.

This was the highlight of my Alaska cruise trip! It was a blast and my favorite part of my trip. My dad and I both loved it. I would definitely recommend doing an Ididaride Dog Sled Tour for anyone who has time in Seward, especially if you're a dog lover. Seavey's runs dog sled tours 4x daily throughout the summer at their champion kennels just outside of seward. The Seavey family has won multiple Ididarod races, and they use these tours as a means of weight training for their dogs during the off season. The have over 200 dogs, and their dogs do these runs from 9 months old - retirement. I was a bit weary initially about racing/riding dogs, but you can just tell that these dogs LIVE for this. They absolutely love it. They literally jump at the bit with excitement when they realize they're being suited up for a ride. You can also tell that the staff adore the dogs and the dogs love them back. It's really a great atmosphere for a dog lover. You check-in for the tour at a tiny hut just off the parking lot and they have chairs set-up for you to wait at. Then one of the mushers comes and walks everyone back to the dog kennels and explains a bit more about the operation. After some explanation, you are broken into groups of about 8 people for each sled and the dogs are suited up for the ride. There's about 35-40 minute, 2 mile, loop that they take you on. The dogs stop for a cool down 4 or 5 times during the ride while your guide gives you some more information about everything. After that, you get to pet all of the dogs on your team, before they introduce you to their sled dog puppies. When we went, there were some 2 month old puppies and some 1 month old puppies and we got to play/pet/hold both sets. You also get to meet a Siberian Husky, famous from the movie Snow Buddies. Finally, one of the guides shows you their real Ididarod sled, with gear, and suits-up one of the dogs as they would be dressed during the race. I had seen one other sled dog ride at a tourist stop on a Skagway excursion, $50 for 15 minute ride and petting some puppies. I can say that Seavey's operation is soooo much better and 100% worth the $75 cost. It's incredibly humane, the dogs are well loved and cared for and overall it's just a great time. 100% would recommend it to anyone.

If you want to know about dog sledding, learn from the best. I came away with a wealth of fascinating Iditarod knowledge. Our guide was informative & funny, he had comical answers for some pretty lame questions being asked. We were given a short intro, met the dogs, went on a dog ride, met puppies (the BEST part), and then concluded with reviewing the Iditarod basics, equipment winners. The tour lasted approximately 1.5hrs, required some walking and was family friendly. The dog ride was a bit different than expected- 13-14 dogs pulling a massive metal cart loaded with visitors, but nevertheless, it allowed you to get an idea of the dog's strength and their discipline. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, but was shocked when I realized we had paid $79 per person! Like everything in Alaska, it was overpriced but I would do it again :)

Fun, informative, and totally touristy... But you ARE a tourist, right? You learn a lot about the race and it's history, and about the dogs, how they live and train, the equipment they use, and of course, you get towed behind a real Iditarod dog sled team! I didn't realize that our cabin (Box Canyon Cabins) was so close to Seavey's, the night before I heard this strange united howling at about 1:00am, echoing all through the valley. Came to find out that it was just 100 sled dogs ready to run!

Iditarod tour. Look at how Robin is so cooperative. This is the gear the dogs wear on the race.

Its well worth the money!!!! What made out trip amazing was our tour guide Joe Allen. He's very knowledgable about all things Alaska. We had a great time visiting the Iditarod center, having lunch at resurrection roadhouse, hiking to a glacier, going to a salmon creek, and ending the day with a ride through the town. We had an amazing time. Thanks Joe!

What an incredible experience!!!! We came here after our planned tour got diverted because of inclement weather. To be honest, I thought it was going to be cheesy but it was just the opposite. This family is royalty in the sled dog world. They have won Iditarod after Iditarod. However, they are incredibly down to earth. Dan Seavey himself was our tour guide. Having done the race himself, he had an incredible depth of knowledge about its complexities and difficulties. Being a musher is way more intense than you would think. He is open and answers all questions that you may have. The dogs are incredible athletes and to top it all off, we got to snuggle warm and cuddly 3 week old puppies. Wouldn't miss it if I were you!

    Pick me, pick me!

We did the longest tour they had - the eight hour Northwestern - it was great every minute. We got the perk pass which I would recommend if you care about where you sit - we were the third couple on the boat and got a great seat facing forward. You will have to share with other families as all the seating is group seating but everyone is outside almost the whole time so easy enough to share. Perk pass also includes unlimited soft drinks - since there are three heads on board you will feel free to hydrate. The wildlife and glacier part of the tour is amazing. We saw otters, Stellars porpoise, a Blue whale blowing a rainbow spout!, humpback whales, eagles, puffins, seals, sea lions, and a pod of 12 orcas. Not to mention some incredible islands, glaciers, and mountains. The captain and other staff were experienced and great narrators. I did have a prescription sea sickness patch and it was a bit rocky for about half an hour, but it didn't impact me thanks to the patch - only two or three people seemed really sick. Food was better than I would have thought - cinnamon rolls and yogurt for breakfast. A quinoa chicken southwestern burrito, and a cookie at the end. Also tried the glacierita - when else will you have a chance?? If you're considering this tour - just book now!

"Where Mountains, Ice, and Ocean Meet"…read more Exploring this National Park was a nice addition to my trip to Alaska. I came here to do volunteer work. In the evenings, we mostly fished in the Kenai River. After finishing up our work, my group planned two fun days at the end of the week. One day we chartered a boat in Homer to Halibut fish and the other we visited Seward and got to see the Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. Kenai Fjords National Park is massive. It is the fifth most-visited park in Alaska and is the closest national park to Anchorage. The park was established in 1980 and encompasses over 600,000 acres outside of the town of Seward. Snow and ice cover 50 percent of the park with the Harding Icefield stretching over 700 square miles. The park's headquarters and visitor center are located in Seward. The nice thing about Kenai Fjords National Park is that it provides both leisurely and adventurous activities for visitors. Activities include kayaking, boat tours, camping, fishing, biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, dog sledding and mountaineering. Various companies offer tours that are guided by National Park Rangers. In addition to seeing the beautiful scenery up close, you can also see both land and marine wildlife. Seward is also a destination for cruise ships and provides passengers from the ships with tours of the park. Kenai Fjords National Park lies on the southeastern side of the Kenai Peninsula and can be reached from Seward. The most significant fjords include Aialik Bay, Harris Bay, McCarty Fjord and Nuka Bay. Most of the interior of the park is covered by the Harding Icefield. A cool thing for me was that I was doing work at an airport when I was here in Alaska. Because my work was volunteer, one of the pilots offered to take some of us up in a plane to see Alaska from above as an appreciation for the work that we were doing. We flew over the Harding Icefield and got to see how massive it was. It was such an awesome experience. Another way to see the icefield up close is to hike on the Harding Icefield Trail. Kenai Fjords National Park is made up of three main areas - the Exit Glacier, Harding Icefield and the coastline. The Exit Glacier is the easiest section of the park to reach. I stopped by the visitor center in Seward first before seeing the glacier. It is a nice place to visit and to learn about the park. There are park rangers on hand to answer questions and a gift shop. We then headed over to the Exit Glacier. It is the only destination in Kenai Fjords National Park that is accessible by land. They have a small nature center that you can visit before heading out on the trail to the glacier. The Exit Glacier hike is the best way to see this glacier up close. Sadly, the glacier has shrunk considerably due to climate change. They have signs showing where the glacier once stood by year. Park scientists continue to monitor and record the glacier's accelerating recession. At some point, you won't be able to see the glacier anymore from the overlook trail. I really enjoyed my time visiting this park. Getting a chance to fly over the Harding Icefield was an amazing experience for me. Then checking out the Exit Glacier later in the week really made me appreciate how beautiful this park is. I hope someday I can return here and hike on Harding Icefield Trail to get up and close to it.

The tour guides are perhaps the biggest factor that is in control by the company. The wildlife viewing and glacier kayaking experience is also dependent on how lucky nature views you. This of course is not this fault of the company, but may impact experience. With that long statement out of the way, let's talk about what happened during my excursion. To start, they go over the typical safety protocols to mitigate chances of issues that would occur. Then you embark on a roughly two hour ride to the kayaking destination. From there, you kayak about 4 miles to the glacier. It's just beautiful to enjoy the Alaskan waterfalls and viewpoints before arriving at the glacier. But once there, you're hit with the majestic beauty of the glacier. Due to safety reasons, we paddle until about 1 mile from the glacier, but it's big enough to be seen from a good ways away. If you're lucky you can see some ice calving. Then you enjoy some lunch from a spot near the glacier before embarking home. Along the way there and way back.
