The glacier was absolutely beautiful, and seeing both humpback whales and orcas on the same trip was something we'll never forget. Leif shared great stories along the way, and both he and Emily were incredibly knowledgeable about the area, wildlife, and local history. They were also just genuinely friendly and made the entire trip fun and relaxed. This ended up being one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. Must do in Seward! Trina took us out for a fantastic 3.5 hour trip. Weather wasn't the greatest, but she made it happen. We saw Bald Eagles, Mountain Goat, Puffins, Sea Otters, and a juvenile Humpback Whale. We made our way to the Spires and learned a lot of Seward history and had great conversation. She knows her way around Resurrection Bay and made sure we were comfortable in the safe. I can't imagine what the trip would have been on a clear day. This was an amazing experience! Captain Abby was a very knowledgeable captain, answering almost every question we asked. She knew exactly where to go to show us the animals. We saw 3 schools of whales (humpback and orcas), puffins, sea lions, seals, otters and a giant pod of moon jellyfish. Not to mention we had lunch, which they provided, at the base of a glacier! We don't even know where to start describing how amazing this experience was! My boyfriend and I went on a 7.5 hr 6-person charter through the Kenai Fjords with captain Abby and despite the fact that the weather was not ideal /rainy and hazy/, the tour was no less than mind blowing. We enjoyed incredible scenery of wild islands, dozens of waterfalls, majestic fjords, wild goats, saw sea otters, puffins, orcas, humpback whales, sea lions among other things:) We approached the Holgate Glacier, watched huge blue ice chunks crash into the ocean, as we were having lunch. I mean - it's indescribable. But we wanted to give special thanks to captain Abby, as she might not be able to take credit for the area's natural beauty, however she went above and beyond in making sure we all had the best experience possible. She really went chasing those whales with us the entire time. And I mean - we really chased those guys good :) She was very much in touch with every passenger's interests and preferences; she was sooo fast when she could be and taking it easy exactly at the right times; in addition so friendly and so full of valuable info and advice! Would give 10 stars if I could! And our overall advice would be - trust us, guys - it's so worth it doing a charter with a small group over trying to save a couple hundred bucks and snuggling with 50 or more other people like sardines. Awesome day on the water in Resurrection Bay and Aialik Bay with Captain Ryan on a Northern Latitude Adventures trip. We saw sea lions, harbor seals, jellies, puffins (my new favorites), salmon, waterfalls, icebergs ..... and glaciers!!! We lucked out with a break in the weather heading out. 6 foot seas on return but the captain handled the boat well in the swells. This area is stunning. The sound of calving glaciers is like thunder. Aialik Glacier comes down from the Harding Glacier and is 1 mile across- dwarfs the helicopter and plane that went by. The icebergs were delicate and exquisite. The color of the water was brilliant. I can't give our guide, Ryan, praise enough. Dropping knowledge bombs all day long. He also went the extra mile to try to spot goats and bears (sadly did not see those on this trip). What a day!!!! PS- The cabin area of the boat was clean and comfortable. The sandwiches were fresh that morning from a local cafe. Delicious. Highly recommend!! read more

Excellent day exploring the fjords! This is a great way to have an intimate experience seeking out wildlife and enjoying the local scenery! I knew I wanted a day on the water in Seward, but I wasn't excited about a giant boat with a bunch of other tourists. Our captain/guide, Clay, was knowledgeable, friendly, and definitely knew his way around the waters! The lunch they provide was from a local deli and hit the spot. They also have coffee, hot tea, and snacks. All of which we enjoyed because it was rainy and cold. The pictures really don't even do the views any justice! Do not hesitate to book a tour with these folks! We went on the 6 hour Glacier and Wildlife tour. We saw everything! Orca, puffin, humpback breeching, bears, bald eagles and porpoise. The glacier even showed off and calved for us while we ate some turkey sandwiches. Snacks, water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, a sandwich, chips and a selection of sodas. Jamie was the perfect guide. As she made her way toward the glacier she would quickly slow and even go back if she saw wildlife. She shared history and nature knowledge. Northern Latitude Adventures exceeded my expectations. We took THREE whale watching trips while in Seward, two with NLA and the first with another local guy. Day 1 with NLA was all day to a glacier with Captain Leif. Day 2 was specifically for whale watching with Captain Nick. Here's a breakdown of the categories to consider when booking a trip like this, along with all the things Northern Latitude got right: The Boat: Roomy, heated cabin, plenty of space for viewing, bathroom, and all the safety bells and whistles one could hope for. It was clean and very obviously well cared for. I felt safe, comfy, and warm the whole trip. The Crew: Captain Leif and Captain Nick are both unobtrusively informative and exceptionally funny. With a quiet group who doesn't want to chat? You'll be happy to know Nick and Leif let you settle in (this was us on our first morning pre-coffee). Enjoy to chat and ask about Seward/Wildlife/Glaciers/Geology/any other random topics? Great! We did all that too. It was really one size fits all comfortably as far as company goes. Couldn't have asked for better Captains. The Perks: Fresh, hot coffee...with creamer. Not the powder kind, but delicious half and half OR Coffee Mate (vanilla) flavored variety. Need I say more? Okay, fine: there are also snacks and other drinks (granola bars, rice crispy treats, cookies, soda, water, tea, cocoa, etc) and lunch is served on the all day trip. Each passenger got a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a chocolate chip cookie from The Sea Bean (local place in town). So tasty! They asked ahead of time if we had any dietary restrictions, which they accommodate for. There are also binoculars for people to borrow in the event you don't have your own pair. The Animals: We saw porpoises (Harbor and Dall's), multiple Humpbacks (including pec fin slaps, a breach, and feeding activities), a Finn Whale, Stellar Sea Lion, Sea Otters (one was eating a King Crab, which was crazy to see), Harbor Seals, a variety of birds (including Tufted and Horned Puffins), a black bear feeding, mountain goats, and finally: Orcas. We saw the northern resident A pod.* The Price: Comparable to all small tours we found in the area. Worth. Every. Cent. The Size: Totally matters. 6 or less people on these tours and this leaves ample room. Not only was I able to get some pretty great pictures and videos, but I didn't feel I had to take turns watching at the front. *Realistic expectations are very important on these trips. Orcas (and Finn Whales) aren't very common to see in the wild due to their natural behaviors/abilities. While the best time of year to spot the Orcas is mid May to mid June, they're travelers. They can go out to open sea and be gone for long stretches. The reason I wanted to leave such a detailed review on the rest of the experience is because even if we hadn't seen my beloved Orcas, I'd still have been a very happy customer. Can't say enough about Northern Latitude Adventures, and especially Captain Kyle. Northern Latitude is very competent and low-key: signing up at near the last minute for our trip was a piece of cake. We could only get the last 2 spots on the 6-hour tour, but Capt. Kyle packed tons of action into that smaller amount of time (beautiful weather helped a lot here). The whales, otters, and bird life were fairly cooperative, and being a small group on a small (30-foot) boat, we had a very up-close and intimate experience. Our glacier viewing was also astounding. Captain Kyle was hugely confidence-inspiring as we sped smoothly around the fjords, and shared lots of information about the wildlife and ecosystems in the Far North. He's also got a great sense of humor and a few colorful stories to tell. Enough superlatives? Yep, we'd do it again in a heartbeat. read more

We saw puffins, bald eagles, dolphins, orcas, sea otters, sea lions, and humpback whales. The boat was amazing clean, a ton of complimentary snacks including tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. Captain Leif took us to all the spots where the coolest animals were hanging out and told us a bunch about the history and ecology of the area. I did the all day (9am-4:30pm) tour and here's who we saw: a transient pod of orca whales eating a porpoise , humpback whales, finn whales, sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and puffins. We made it all the way out to Holgate Glacier and saw some of it calving into the sea. The kayaking was fun, I really felt that you made it easy, as I was nervous at first, only having kayaked in lagoons and lakes but never out in the open sea, but your calm demeanor made us feel like we were in our local lake. The fort was a cool find, and exploring it made me feel like a kid again. The whale watching was fun too - the smack of jellyfish was caught on video and if you have an email I can show it to you but it was VERY cool! There were hundreds of thousands of jellyfish in the waters, and because of being a lower boat than those cruise boats we were able to capture it on the waterproof go pro using the go pro stick!
