There isn't a rating low enough. Horrible, unhelpful, mean people everywhere. I walked in 20 minutes after they opened, and the "clerk" told me they were all booked up for the day. There was two people in the lobby. How is this possible? I asked if I could wait and they could fit me in somewhere, she said no. Recently, I had to make an appointment to have my driver's license renewed, and my vehicle titled changed. In the past, I can remember obtaining a number, then sitting for two hours or more before they called my number. I can't tell you how many times under the old system, customers waited so long for their turn, they actually fell asleep in the lobby area. Thankfully, the new appointment system works very fast, improved waiting times and has you in an out the door in no time at all. DMV opens at 9am, the earlier you get there the better. Scheduled appointments is the way to go. Walk in visits can be anywhere from a 2 to 3 hour wait. The first person got there at 7:30am (an hour and a half early). I arrived at 8:30am (half hour early) and there were 20 people ahead of me. The employees seem fairly organized and work at a steady pace. I applied for the Real ID, it cost $9 and I had to have my photo retaken. The building is clean with several televisions if you want a distraction other than your phone. The parking lot is easy to access with plenty of handicap spots. The DMV needs to figure out how to improve its services, with ALL of the technology available there is no excuse for antiquated service. read more

Easily the best Secretary of State experience I have ever had. Everyone at this location is friendly and the process was so easy! They were running behind as they were short staffed, but I didn't wait more than 10 extra minutes where at other locations I have waited 1-2 hours. I'm very impressed. read more

Got in line on line with the text system. System said it would be about one hour. I left work and arrived 15 minutes early. I was finally called to the window 90 minutes after the estimated time. This place is full of people do not care about the customers. This is a business who knows there is no competition which is why it sucks. First off I come to renew my tags at the kiosk but I can't because change of address, then I come back to the office a week later and wait 40 minutes to renew my tags and I forgot the renewal slip in the car. I grab the renewal and wait in the same line again for 30 minutes and then they say I need my proof of insurance I go to the car and grab that. Wait in line again for another 30 minutes and then we find out my vin is off by 1 letter and they're about to close so I have to come back another day. The next day I get a ticket for registration expiring, and explain my story to the cop and show him my return line pink slip from SOS. He says take it to court to take care of it. I go back to SOS the same day show them my return slips and then I ask for the slip back and they wouldn't give it back because of fear I would use it again. I wanted to keep it to show in court that I attempted to get the registration but couldn't, because who wants to pay 100 bucks for registration and then 140 for a ticket? They Made me wait in line again for 30 minutes. In order to keep the pink slip. Just get someone who will work and fight for something stronger then keeping a pink slip. read more

I visited the office on Lilley Rd in Canton MI today. I needed to obtain a new disabled parking sign for my car and to purchase new tabs for my two vehicles. Remembering from my last visit 6 months ago I called the office before going and used the "mi-time" system. This allows you to check into the office by using your cell phone number and then they text you how long your wait will be. This is great! I checked in found out I had a 2 hour and 20 minute wait. So I had lunch, completed some chores at home and watched recorded tv before going to the SOS office. I left when I got a 32 minute wIt text and then after arriving the line moved very quickly as many people before me never showed to honor their place in line. My business took about 5 minutes and I was back home in no time. The clerk taking care of me was in training and did a nice job. She was friendly knowledgable and efficient. read more

I was at the Canton office yesterday and when I got there was told there were 163 people in front of me. When observing the employees I found them all to be extremely patient and helpful. There seemed to be a big language barrier with several of the customers and the workers were doing their best to help them along and get them on the right track when testing. I was there for a few hours but with that many people in front of me, I expected that. I did not get out until well after 8pm but overall was not a bad experience. read more

Average wait in the QLess time says 4 hours when you sign in but that's a lie, it's closer to 6 hours of wait. Got here at 9am with 12 people in front of me. It took them 5 hours to get to me. Did not care for the service at the Canton office. After being there an hour, was told to get out of a chair and stand in a line for another half hour, I walk with a cane. Told the clerk I needed to renew the handicap placard along with renewing my drivers license, she forgot the placard and unfortunately I did too. The DMV is always a nightmare, and you expect long wait times, but THIS PLACE, is SO BUSY AND SLOW. Three hour wait and counting. I have no idea what takes so long, but the utter lack of direction is definitely making this worse. Most DMVs have staff floating around to answer questions- not here. I needed to renew my husband's tags and I appreciated being able to use that little express kiosk instead of waiting in line for 6 hours.

Worst place. First time the employees were complaining about a certain person managing the place and not doing their jobs while they chatted. Second time, the employee came in late (car accident and there were gawkers) and after waiting for almost 2 hours in their document line told that I need to come back w a agent form. Not bad. I was there over an hour to renew my tabs which is what I expected. Out of 14 employee stations there were 5 stations open. The employee who helped me was friendly and I got my tabs quickly once I was up there. They are using a texting system with your phone to determine who was up next. I prefer the old system of simply pulling the paper tab and going in basic chronological order. read more

Useless. Not a term I like to throw around, but utterly useless. SOS after being asked a simple question: "We shouldn't have done that". Another question asked and the SOS replies with: "Must have been a glitch in our system". No apologies on their part are required. Additionally, maybe if everyone there wasn't so damn rude, it wouldn't be as miserable to have your affairs managed. My-Time (aka get in line, on-line) not working. Tried to make an appt. a month in advance, but the soonest available appt. was at least 6 weeks down the road. Wait time at this location is always long, no matter the time of day or day of week. 8/11/2019 Kiosk in vestibule was out of ink & produced a blank registration, blank tab & NO receipt, but managed to charge me $155. Now I'm forced to go into the branch & waste time I don't have. Average wait time is at least 90 minutes. SOS needs a major overhaul to improve the customer experience with reduced wait times. read more
