The drinks here were solid. But the service started out terrible, so not sure I would return. I would more likely go to Tonic (reviewed separately) for cocktails. When I arrived, I originally wanted to visit the restaurant, which was closed for the week due to a family emergency. So I presented to the open seating bar. Was ignored a long time. Got up to go to the bar and someone else stole my table. Took a long time to be acknowledged by the bar tender and finally made an order. Took quite a while to get it. Things got better when a bar seat opened up and I moved to the bar. But keep in mind, a different bar tender pretty much took over and kept my drinks flowing. That first bar tender could not hang, demonstrating poor time management skills and appeared to be moving slowly. The second bar tender, I think his name is Hector, really turned things around for me. I visited Secreto (another hotel based outfit, in the Hotel St. Francis) because they are supposed to be a "cocktail experience," boasting "garden to glass" cocktails. Dark wood and southwestern palate for decor. I had: Smoked sage margarita: flagship drink, smoked washed premium margarita (super herbal) Ghost ranch reverie: Tequila with peach, apricot shrub, lemon, seltzer, smoked rosemary (light, not too sweet, an "homage to the passionate artists of the southwest) Madonna of the Mesa: tequila blanco, pomegranate, mouth herbs, lemon, rose water (soft and balanced) Secret garden: basil infused gin gimlet with lime and chomilre infused honey. "Botanical crispiness meets honeyed serenity." I liked the basil, but the honey wasn't my thing. But a good cocktail. Again, drinks were good. On a Thursday afternoon, it was initially crowded and the initial service was terrible. But Hector saved the day. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed spending an hour here prior to dinner. 'The cocktails were inventive (lots of smoke and infusions) and the surroundings were pleasant. Secreto Lounge is located in the same hotel as the Gruet Wine Bar. After I stopped by Gruet, I decided to check Secreto out. I really liked the atmosphere and thought it felt very cozy. The bartender was friendly. I ordered the "Missed Calls" cocktail, which is similar to a Manhattan cocktail. This drink was super smooth and I could tell that they used high quality ingredients in the cocktail. If I hadn't been pressed for time, I would have tried a second cocktail for sure. read more

I walked in not expecting much(see above inside hotel in the touristy part of town), but the bartender, she made me thirsty for many of the libations. I tried the smoked sage margarita to start. The concoction came together in a wonderful way. The tart of lime with the aromas of sage worked great. Second was the Arbusto. It looks basic, but the combination of the celery bitters and the vinegar tones creates a pickle back flavor that I have never had in a tequila drink before. Original and quite good. I did not care for the chimi as it was doused w/ mayo or something, not original South American sauce which I love. We concluded the steak sauce tasted like A-1 stirred into catsup. It was GOOD! This bar is Located on the first floor of the St. Francis Hotel. It is a very small lounge that gets packed during happy hour. Their happy hour goes until 6 o'clock and features two dollars off drinks and select appetizers are on special as well. When we visited it was during happy Hour and the actual lounge it's self was packed that we had to sit in overflow seating in the main lobby area there were three servers and we didn't feel like we had to wait a long time for our drinks at all they were definitely on top of it. I got the smoked Margarita that they are famous for and everyone raves about, but I didn't see anything really special about this or mind blowing. It was just average and I would probably would rather have had a gin and tonic like my mom got. It comes with a lot of salt on the rim so be prepared or perhaps ask for light salt? Possibly the absolute worst service I've ever encountered. Staff was rude and unresponsive when we sat at the bar. Asked for a cocktail menu - was ignored. After not being served and asking who we order from - was ignored.
