The bar only accepts cash, so make sure it bring it in small bills if possible! Cool local bar in downtown Santa Fe with live music. Setup was a little weird with low chairs around the perimeter of part of the bar and bar stools at the bar. $5 cover at the door. I didn't know that this place was cash only, so be aware. There is a good selection of hard liquor and a small selection of beer. I loved this place! Band was playing "Lay Down Sally" when I walked in and I knew it would be a comfortable place. An older crowd when I got there giving way to a younger one a little later. Photos on the wall are of the owner's family, especially his dad from WWII. They look like Life Magazine photos. Patrons were SO friendly. One of them even asked this old man to dance. It's the real deal man. You want a real old western bar? Come here. It's no nonsense - I've seen other reviews saying the barkeep was rude or not very nice, but to me it's who he is- it's an old rugged western bar. The bar is interesting and has some history to it - they've filmed western movies at this bar. It's actually the oldest bar in Santa Fe. They have a sweet vintage cash register and beautiful old photographs on the wall. The history here is palpable. It's cash only so hit up an ATM before you go. As I was leaving I found out there's a downstairs that opens at 9pm. It's pretty dead before 9pm- we were the only patrons at the bar around 745pm. Definitely come after 9 for the scene. The Downstairs- pool tables, bar, food music, and rad bartender who makes sweet ass elixirs to your request. You won't get drinks like this anywhere else. There's live music upstairs after 9pm. Overall- place is cool, has that real gritty western/divey/local feel. Don't expect to be worshipped when you go in- especially in the upstairs bar. This is a very unique place. It is VERY important to bring cash & leave your entitled attitude outside. The owner is a good friend. No one there puts up with any tourist BS. It's a fantastic place if you are respectful. This establishment is frequented by people that live and work in the area. My husband and I stopped in for a drink on a snowy December night while in Santa Fe. The bar wasn't supposed to be open per their hours posted but it was when we showed up. There was one other person there when we came inside and then a few minutes later another couple showed up. There was no music playing. There was one TV but it was muted. It was a little awkward since it was silent for a while. Overall this was a "nice" dive bar but not sure I would come again if in the area unless there were more people to interact with while there. read more

LGBTQ WARNING: If you identify as trans, non-binary, or are gender non-conforming, do NOT expect to use the bathrooms after enjoying your over-priced beverages. The grumpy Greek store-keep has been known to go into the lady's restroom at the behest of bigoted customers to kick loyal patrons out! Ok, now to the positives. If you are a fan of sticky counters, live bacterial strains, and general filth, this is the place for you. Like most of Santa Fe, the majority of the drinks are watered down and overpriced, but you get to enjoy them from a dungy perch only a block away from the plaza, so there's that. I only briefly saw the bathroom before being kicked out for being trans, but what I saw led to me to believe that the bathroom was most likely cleaned at least once within the last 18 months, as there were only a handful of stains on the toilet seat and floor (I highly recommend bathing when you get home - your immune system will thank you). In short, definitely visit this place if you are a sexist homophobic zealot who enjoys a ten dollar drink over a good racist joke. However, if you are a decent human being, I strongly suggest spurning this despicable establishment. You've been warned. read more

We loved this place. No nonsense. No beers on tap, cash only, great bands, Nick was awesome. Beers are in the beer frig, more alcohol than you can imagine. Prices are very reasonable (best prices we found ard the downtown area). Really small, there are no table, just seats at the bar and some chairs along the wall. It seemed inviting on the outside but this place is all about politics on the inside. We were just casually a walking back to our hotel from a wedding and it looked like a fun place to stop for a last drink. There's was live music playing in the background and my wife went to bar to order two bud lights... and the older looking bar tender said "we don't serve your kind" and then pointed to the wall with a sign that says "no f'n bud". No idea what point they are try to make as we are just normal people who don't care about all that crap. Maybe makes you want to go more or less, but for us it's an embarrassment that there is such lack of civil discourse. read more

The downstairs female bartender enabled an incredibly hostile environment, used the speaker system to verbally abuse our group, and ruined the night for well paying customers. These guys did their best to have a nice bar atmosphere, they have a tough job with all the ridiculous regulations. I could tell the bartender downstairs in particular had enough of telling drunks the same stuff over and over. But unfortunately her annoyance spilled over into engaging loudly with my surly freind, and they had a huge back and forth drama which ended up with him stomping out. I readily admit he's a pain in the butt, but the bartender was shouting some pretty needless personal stuff at him in the end. Not exactly calming the situation down. I was a bartender for many years and I found it pretty over the top. Your job is to deal with people when they're a bit banged up and not exacerbate the situation. Me and my friend got to the bar and immediately went to the bathroom to use it.. because you know how it is when you drink. Anyways. We waited in line for like 3 minutes. We went in and i was in the middle of using the bathroom and the blonde bartender started banging on the door like the police and was harassing us for no reason. I was in the middle of pulling up my underwear and she had both doors open to the bar. When my friend tried to close the door so i could finish pulling up my pants and buttoning them.. the bartender proceeded to physically assault her. She then called the bouncers and had us removed from the establishment. There is no jumper to contact management. I am highly pissed because we had done nothing wrong. Police will be notified. Santa Fe doesn't have too much of a night life, but this dive parties well into the night. They open in the afternoon, so if you need a break from shopping, or if you're trying to wait out a summer storm, there'll be a spot for you here. This bar is stuck between nothing but tourist traps and souvenir shops but manages to keep its local feel. Opened by the current owner's dad (known for his appearance on Life Magazine's cover in 1944) way back in 1969, it's still going strong. We walked in on a Thursday night with a really cool live band playing, grabbed a beer and a seat by the stage and had so much fun! It's old school cool.
