Mac and cheese, Ruben, edge salads

Went with a group for lunch on a friday. Large space with lots of seating options inside and out. Food was good. I had the lasagna roll. Their homemade garlic rolls were not great IMHO. They make their pasta in house which is a bonus. Service was good. They did bring all the other orders out several minutes before mine which isnt ideal. A gust of wind blew one of the outdoor umbrellas down around our table which as startling. The manager did stop by out table later and check that we were ok and gave us a 20% discount on the ticket. Overall good dinning experince.

Christmas Pork Stew - Only found in the specials of the day.

I am absolutely oozing with gratitude for the incredible experience I had at Boxcar Bar & Grill! If you are looking for the ultimate sports destination in Denver, look no further. The energy here is unmatched--the "sports vibe" is curated perfectly with plenty of screens and a crowd that is passionate but welcoming. It's the kind of place where every seat feels like the best seat in the house, making it the perfect spot to cheer our favorite colllege football team. But let's talk about the real MVP: the Christmas Pork Stew. It was, quite simply, over the top! The balance of the red and green chile was a masterpiece of flavor. The red chile brought that deep, earthy richness, while the green added a bright, spicy kick that kept me coming back for more. The pork was tender, and the flavors were so authentic to the Southwest. It's a dish that warms your soul and makes your taste buds dance. Between the high-octane atmosphere and that world-class stew, Boxcar has officially become my new favorite Santa Fe haunt. Thank you for the amazing hospitality!

Went at 11 pm in the evening and it was interesting as the place was popping with activity in the club part of the bar, yet they still had the diner part open. Managed to get a light supper of Tacos. Service was expectedly slow as their attention was turned towards the club being managed, but still warm despite the time of day.

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

The service was very good. Our waitress was very attentive. The vibe of the place is very cool as well. Overall the food was pretty good. We got the buffalo chicken sandwich with Parmesan truffle fries. This dish was great. We also got the fish and chips. They were good too but the breading is extremely thick. For an appetizer the Bao Buns are good but they are more like tacos. The pork belly inside was amazing.

We held our Toy Drive here this year. It was a huge success and Boxcar people handled it well. Service was great and with a houseful of customers, it wasn't easy. They were right there to take orders and before we knew it, our drinks and food was served. They were even nice enough to let us know when we still had a few minutes left for happy hour. The large room we were in has a big bar and lots of tables to handle our large crowd.

Jalapeño Poppers

The Santa Fe Foodies met again at Boxcar, this time we must have had a group of several dozen for the annual Toy Drive. The place was packed! I think everyone I spoke to there loved the food. The service (thanks to Shyan and crew) was outstanding. Went for Happy Hour, where apps are 20% off. So my wife and I concentrated on those offerings. Had the Chicken Tenders because another Foodie recommended them. They were fine, but I'm not much of a chicken tender guy. Moist, tender, but how much can you do with fried tenders? Anyway, good but not my cup of tea. Now what blew me away was the Brussels Sprouts. A few years ago, you couldn't pay me to eat them, but I tried them from a good chef, and that changed my mind about at least trying them. Now I love them. And the rendition at Box Car is off the charts: braised (?), crispy, and perfectly al dente, cooked with bacon and cotija, and finished with a balsamic glaze. I may have to order this dish every time I go. If you're lukewarm to Brussels sprouts, do yourself a favor and try them here; you may end up a fan, as I am now. Lastly, we had the Jalapeño Poppers. The menu states they are the 'best poppers this side of the Mississippi'. I've spent little time on the opposite side of Mississippi, but I'll tell you these were the best I've had west of that state. Just outstanding! Yes, hot, but not brutal for a 30-year resident of NM. But you'll feel them. The cheese stuffing was terrific, and the bacon was excellent. I didn't expect them to be coated in a sumptuous batter and fried perfectly. YUM! Yes, it is loud here, but otherwise, this is a great place to eat, the food is outstanding and far better than I'd expect at a 'sports bar', and the service was stellar.

Delicious pretzel with crab dip

This place is so fun. Seemingly the only sports bar in town outside of chains like Buffalo Wild Wings. We watched 2 of the Nuggets playoff games here last week. The servers and bartenders are attentive and friendly, We especially loved the icy cold glasses with the beer. I highly recommend the pretzel with crab dip!

Beer flights

Road-tripped to Santa Fe in February midweek and explored the town & cute shops. It was difficult to find anything open around 2pm on a weekday, but we stumbled across this sports bar. Wanting to get a little tipsy before we walked more, we ordered a few flights and a giant pretzel! The Dark & Dangerous flight was super unique and so was the Fruity & Light flight! The Ex Novo - Kill the Sun was intense and high proof! It did the trick! The pretzel was REAL and thick and bready! The only way to do pretzels in my opinion! Classic slightly elevated bar food with large portions. Service was friendly!

Ask the Community - Boxcar Bar and Grill

Tuesday (Nov 15) at 7:30 Duke plays Kansas on ESPN. Will this be on at least one of your screens?

So being from Kansas and knowing they have a good football team once in every 20 years, I'm assuming you're a Duke fan, and no, I don't have the answers.

Does Boxcar have TV screens for sporting events?

Yes...they are placed throughout the bar. Very nice!

I started with what I thought was going to be a plain Caesar salad, but when it arrived, it was served like a sushi or lettuce wrap. It was very creative and tasty! It made it much more fun to eat than the average salad. It was rich and topped with anchovies, like a true Caesar salad. I then had the peppercorn Elk tenderloin. I asked it be served as the chef recommended, which is medium rare. I am sometimes wary of medium rare, but this tenderloin was DIVINE! It was so moist and bursting with flavor. I loved it. The cocktails were creative and just as enjoyable as the meal. Other options for dinner apps include: cornbread, ahi crudo, mussels, and bison carpaccio. Mains: scallops, pan roasted Branzino, toasted masa gnocchi, grilled Maine lobster tails, duck leg confit, and a pecan coffee rubbed prime flat iron. I'm sure all of them would be amazing. Reservations recommended. Please note that the rooftop bar does not take reservations and is not on the same system as the restaurant. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

In fact we enjoyed the different wings that we ordered. Were they the best wings....no....were they the worst...no. We tried traditional curry wings, mango and then a very spicy wing dish. We ended up sitting down at the bar while we waited for the food and just ordered one round and had to flag down a manager to pay our tab because the bartender was completely overran. Of course they screwed up the food order as well. Big disappointment from beginning to end. Should've known better.

The goodness began with Naomi, who helped me fix an error in my reservation and get a table at a good time tonight. The goodness continued with our server Mitzi, who should be teaching graduate classes in hospitality in every big city. She was friendly without being overbearing, informative without being pedantic, subtle and gracious. Now, the food! My wife chose the vegetarian tasting menu and I had some of each dish: so very flavorful (a green salad with pears, a life-changing mushroom bisque [and I don't like mushrooms!], a chickpea croquette with pickled artichoke hearts and ratatouille, and a substitution of the lemon crepe for three yummy scoops of sorbet and gelato. I chose the scallops, perfectly cooked and moist, over couscous, and a dish of tasty sauteed baby spinach. A wonderful experience, and not overpriced, and everyone treated us sweetly. The musical soundtrack was swinging, and at a compassionate volume. Our first trip to Santa Fe, and we found a gem. Hooray! And thank you, Mitzi!

The interior is classy and very comfortable. We were seated at a nice comfy corner booth. The soft music in the background was soothing and just noticeable enough without being a distraction. We were served complimentary flutes of local sparking wine and a fresh baked bread basket and butter to start. We then ordered cocktails and three starters. First was a split plate of the endive smoked duck salad with a warm bacon vinegarette. Wow...this was nice and refreshing. This was followed by the crab dumplings with fresh corn and peas and lobster sauce. Delicious! The final small plate was seared foie gras on top of banana bread toast. This was very good. I miss foie gras. Unfortunately, it's banned in California. They had a 2023 Sea Smoke "Ten"Pi ot Noir on the wine list. This is one of the best Pinot Noirs produced in California and not easy to find. This was a no doubter and we ordered a bottle to pair with our entrees. My wife ordered their signature elk tenderloin for redemption because the restaurant the night before failed at executing this. I ordered the tomahawk pork chop. This was cooked to perfection with a nice thin crust on the outside and a perfect very light pink juicy center. We ordered a side of brocolini that was pan roasted with shallots and butter. Everything was very good and Michelin grade in our opinion. Lastly we ended the evening and split the tiramasu type of desert. My wife had the expresso martini and I had an 18 year old Glen Morangie scotch neat. The service was excellent and worth the splurge. This is a must when visiting Santa Fe.

The restaurant was dimly lit, with large whiskey barrels tastefully scattered throughout the space. The ambiance felt dressy casual with a touch of farmhouse charm, complemented by a curated country music playlist serenading us throughout the evening. Since we had mentioned when making our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, both the hostess and our waiter greeted us with a warm "Happy Anniversary" and surprised us with two complimentary glasses of champagne. It was a very thoughtful touch and set the evening off to a great start. For drinks, I ordered the Buffalo Trace whiskey flight, while my wife chose a shrub, which is a sweet fruity cocktail with a hint of vinegar (like apple cider vinegar or kombucha). We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. To start, we ordered the corn chowder with bone marrow, which was such a unique and incredibly delicious experience for both of us. You scrape the bone marrow directly into the soup, adding richness to both the flavor and texture, which were already excellent. For our entree, we shared the ribeye steak with duck fat fingerling potatoes, and it was more than enough food for the two of us. The steak was cooked to perfection and, surprisingly, had very little fat. The duck fat potatoes were soft, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the meal. For dessert, we ordered the Kentucky butter cake and...oh my...the salted bourbon caramel was absolutely amazing!
