Secure Data took my money and failed to deliver the promised files. They did not recovery they agreed upon file. I paid to have a large photo file recovered. They did not recover any of my lost data, just data that was already available on the files. When I disputed the transaction they said I signed a form agreeing to non-refundable charges. So as an update, they did reach out but then ghosted me. So they have done nothing to solve my issue. If you really want your data recovered, use OnTrack. After receiving my device back from these yahoos, I sent it to Ontrack and they recovered every single byte on the drive. Since these guys ghosted me and will not respond whatsoever, I'm posting. I even took the review down on Yelp as I wanted to give the company a chance. But again, they have ghosted me and will not reply with even a "we received your email". Again, this company is not one you would use for your company data recovery. They might be ok for the personal users pictures or something simple, but they are NOT THE COMPANY THEY MAKE THEMSELVES OUT TO BE. YMMV. Here is what I emailed them just to be transparent. So, your company has chosen to ignore me. I emailed you previously with what I wanted to happen. I did take down my yelp review as I told you. Yet you have ignored me. I will be reposting my yelp review as your company has chosen to simply hope I go away. Never heard another word from you. You talked about wanting to make sure I was satisfied, yada yada yada. Yet you did nothing to rectify the situation. So the yelp review goes back up. I gave you over two weeks to respond. Yet you didn't after assuring me you had my best interest in hand. Shame on your company. No refund, and no response. It simply shows my company that your company isn't willing to do what they actually state. Again, DO NOT USE this company for data recovery. They have multiple places around the US but they are simply intake facilities. The local companies cannot help you. They will send it off everytime to their facility in Ohio. And those people don't even have a clean room. If it's a complicated job they will simply tell you the drive is dead and there is nothing they can do. Again, I sent the device to OnTrack and they completely recovered our clients data. No questions asked, Ontrack simply made it happen. These guys at Secure Data Recovery are a complete sham. If you have a thumb drive that needs to be recovered, perhaps they can do it, but so can my company. That is a software recovery. Anything special, they simply suck. They will promise they can do it, but they won't. They didn't even open our surface Pro to try to recover the data. They are simply a software recovery company, and you can do the same exact thing they do by purchasing some cheap software to do recovery. What a sham. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I did lots of research before choosing a data recovery service for a dropped external hard drive and thought I'd picked well. Initial customer service was quick and friendly. I provided plenty of details about the drive, a very popular brand and not too old, and was quoted a fee ranging from $450 to $1800. Huge range so I asked lots of questions, the response being along the lines of "there could be various amounts of damage that require different types of work and the range covers those scenarios." Fair. They stated that no payment was required unless data could be recovered, and only after they provide a list of files they can recover. They mentioned the $25 return shipping, should I decide not to use their services after the initial inspection. Fair. They also stated total turn-around time of up to 2 weeks. They provided an overnight FedEx label, and instructions on packing the damaged drive and a new replacement drive I'd purchased on my own. Wrapped with tons of bubble wrap as they requested, secured it in the box and off it went. Their response after their initial inspection was within the time originally stated, however, they said the drive had excessive damage" that required new parts in order to proceed - though they were confident in a full recovery after these pieces were replaced - the price was $300ish more than the HIGHEST of the original range I was given, and they asked for a $200 deposit before beginning the recovery process. They also said, that it would now take up to 4 weeks to complete (double the initial time-frame promised). I pressed for answers as to how a supposedly experienced data recovery company quotes such a wide price range to begin with but doesn't take any kind of "additional" damage or replacement parts into account, when I was very upfront about how the damage occurred and how the drive was behaving since it was dropped. Also asked why the deposit was suddenly required - when I'd signed documents that clearly stated nothing was due until they showed a list of files that could be recovered. The rep said he'd "try and talk to the manager." I didn't hear back within a day so after all these red flags, I requested to have my drives returned. I paid the $25 return shipping invoice promptly and was told it would be shipped back within 24 hours. It was, though a tracking number was not provided until after I had to ask because I'd been blocked out of their nifty customer service tracking portal after paying the return shipping. Then I received the tracking number. USPS Priority Mail. 2-3 day shipping. Insured up to $50. Three things: 1.) I ship frequently for my business, so I know this costs $15 at the very most. More likely $12-$13. Sometimes $8. 2.) I also know, from extensive experience, that USPS is nearly impossible to get a hold of and process a claim for damaged or missing packages. 3.) Anyone who works with hard drives should know that a brand new 4T replacement drive like the one I sent costs much more than $50. Waited patiently for my drives to arrive. No actual shipping problems. Box was in nice shape, delivered when promised, etc. HOWEVER. Both drives were wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap and not cushioned otherwise in the box. Meaning they had a good 2" in the box to wiggle around from top to bottom. They didn't even wrap the return shipment in the manner they requested drives to be sent TO them. Everything appeared to be ok though. So I breathed a sign of relief for avoiding what was looking to be a sketchy deal. Took the drives to a local place who was aware of the exact things Secure Data Recovery said was wrong with the drive. Their data recovery professional spent 3 minutes doing a pre-check on my drive and noted that the original factory seals of the inside drive components had not even been opened. .... and thought there was no way they could have come up with the list of specific "excessive damages" without having opened the internal case... and that there isn't a way to put it back like that after opening it. I will reserve a sliver of possibility that this person is incorrect, or that Secure Data Recovery could possibly be that good at reassembling drives. After the other issues though - I'm completely skeptical and can't recommend them at all. read more

The customer service is outstanding. You are assigned an individual rep who works with you every time, and they are patient, prompt, and easy to talk to for us "non-techies". I cannot recommend this company enough. I wasn't on a strict time frame--just trying to get stuff off a personal hard drive--so they were able to work with me on the pricing and shipping dates. Of course it will be more expensive if you are on a tighter time frame or have more data, but I was so relieved to get back a lot of sentimental photos and videos of my family and kid. I recently had a computer fail. I thought now big deal, because I have a backup. Unfortunately, while transferring the files to the new computer the backup overheated and failed. I called around to several different data recovery services. Pricing was all over the map, but I choose to go ahead with Secure Data Recovery, because I liked that they looked at the drive before determining pricing. I also liked their policy of not having to pay until you review the data that they recover, then pay if you want that data returned to you. This is what made me decide to go with them. I want to start off by saying "all data recovery services are expensive"! With that established you need to find one that will get your data and not make mistakes in the process, by losing your family pictures, or whatever else is on your drive. With this in mind, I searched, read reviews and talked to others who had used similar services and ended up with SDRS! The process was fairly simple, and the assignment of a rep (Jeremy) to my case was great. I was able to call ask questions, and get accurate and specific responses to my questions. SDRS approach to the billing, and viewing of my account information was very professional and easy to use. I had around ten thousand pictures that were recovered, and although it was expensive 1837.00 it was worth it. 80% of my pictures were backed up, but the 20% that were not were well worth the price I paid. Places like Best Buy and other computer centers end up sending them off to one of the bigger recovery centers, and tack on a fee. They will tell you a very low minimum to suck you and then hit you in the end with the normal fees and costs. It took me about two weeks for them to finish the process which was fine. I read a few other reviews for SDRS, and I think sometimes people expect everything instantly and it's just not realistic with certain things like data recovery. Also I read complaints about the cost, and to me that is not a valid reason for a bad review. If you do your research you would understand that this process is expensive. I work in the IT field and have recovered hundreds of drives, but sometimes you have to call in the pros and that will cost you. If your goal is to recover you data, then SDRS is a good choice. We chose this company because of their professionalism on the telephone when we called for information. They appeared to have "systems" in place compared to 2 other companies we called. We were assigned our own representative which made the experience easier for communication and reduced frustration and anxiety. This representative was very responsive. We knew daily how things were going with our data recovery process. We either spoke on the phone, got updates from their online portal or by e-mail. We chose the expedited service. Per their commitment, having received our drive on Friday, they worked on the drive over the weekend and had electronic information available on Monday for our perusal, shipped it overnight on Monday with an arrival of Tuesday afternoon. We were out of business for 3 business days with all files recovered successfully. The whole process was expensive but the peace of mind and end result helped offset that concern.
