Yesterday, I went, with the back of my SUV filled with assorted fluids and headed for EDCO. When I arrived at 10:00am, the line was already blocks long, extending around the corner of Spring Street , almost to Atlantic Avenue! Yikes! There are lots of street attendants directing folks. The one I spoke with assured me that the line moves quickly. He was right! This is a very efficiently run process, only available two Saturdays each month (check their website). When you pull into the disposal area, several men open your back hatch and quickly remove all of the items that you need to safely dispose of. And then, you are on your way...with the wonderful feeling of accomplishment that cleaning out AND properly disposing potentially dangerous items brings! Hint: Find out what time they are opening (usually 8 or 9am) and get there early.

The guys operating this recycle shack are extremely rude. The one guy who took our recycling and weighed it was on the phone the entire time on a personal call. He was not paying attention to anything going on and then he started grabbing another customer's recycling and adding it to my order. We (the other customer and I) had to tell him about the mix up and he seemed irritated, yet it was his mistake. He just handed over some cash. No receipt, no documentation at all of what was turned in. Who knows if the amount of cash was correct. Meanwhile another guy working here was walking back and forth through the entire area moving bags of bottles and cans around while smoking a cigarette! Absolutely gross.

What drew me to Wilmington Recyclers was the fact that they offer 7cents per pound for metal while other places give only 1 cent per pound. Also, compared to other places, they have the most extensive list of items that they will take: ewaste, appliances (large and small), and even car batteries For the metals, they have an in ground scale that weighs the car along with your haul, afterwards, you drop off the metals in a large metal bin, then reweigh you car. There are many different lines for different items, the process can be very overwhelming for a newbie. Robert helped guide us, and walked us through each area. I saw many families turning in their recyclables: a good lesson in reducing waste. FYI: Most staff speak little English, so look for Robert/Roberto if you don't speak Spanish.

We took 8 bags to Sunset Recycling today, and those 8 bags filled 6 of their recycling baskets. The cashier handed me a $1, a $5, and 4 bills I thought were $20s. $86 was about what I was expecting. When I got home, I realized they were actually only $10 bills. We went back to the center and asked to see our receipt. It said we had 27 pounds worth of aluminum. I questioned if that seemed right for 6 baskets full. The guy claimed it was. That would be less than 5 pounds per basket. I watched him weigh the next customers baskets, and each was 8-10 pounds. So, what do we think happened? Because the parking next to the center was full, we parked behind the Costco instead. We filled 6 of their recycling baskets with cans, plus a basket with a little bit of plastic and one with an insignificant amount of glass - that's 8 baskets total. We dragged over 4 of the baskets, then went back and grabbed the other 4. We think they took in a few of the first set of baskets we dragged over without weighing them first, then weighed the second set of baskets while we stood there. There is no way for us to prove that is what happened, but it seems like the logical conclusion. How can I be so sure 27 pounds is way too light? We had another 8 bags of cans to recycle. Immediately after, we took them to a competitor down the street. Those 8 bags of cans weighed in at just under 50 pounds for $85. So, yeah, we are 100% sure they ripped us off.

After the hurricane here in Texas, I had a dire need for electricity and internet. It was at this time that I realized that my hotspot was pretty much useless. My download speed averages around 4 Mbps; Upload is around 1Mbps. Human IT is offering hotspots from Mobile Citizen (who offers T-Mobile hotspots). So when I called Human IT about the problem, they have to refer me over to Mobile Citizen who then refers me over to T-Mobile. T-Mobile tells me they can't help me because I am not authorized business user with Mobile Citizen. So I call Mobile Citizen and then they tell me to call Human IT. Meanwhile each month I am paying $14.99 for the worst customer support of the ages. I was told that if I wanted a refund I had to talk to the manager. Of course the manager was in a meeting and "may" call me back. Of course he never did! So I have this hotspot that costed me $148 (with six months of service). My advice is don't buy your hotspot from Mobile Citizen. You will get what you pay for which is a paperweight.
