Constantly have issues with mice or rats. And the storage unit kept getting broken into not a secure space as the name says.

I initially thought having a pull-up unit at SecureSpace Storage on Lonus would be convenient, but I quickly realized it was a mistake. My items were constantly covered in dirt and debris, making it impossible to grab anything quickly without deep cleaning it first. At one point, I noticed rodent control packets had been placed inside my unit, which raised concerns--especially since I used my own lock from a previous unit. It seemed like someone had accessed my space and thrown them in. By the time I moved out, there were clear signs of a rodent infestation--feces on the ground and items that had been chewed through, forcing me to throw some things away. On top of that, the unit doors are old and unreliable. Mine got stuck multiple times, and on one occasion, I spent over an hour on the phone trying to get someone to help--on a Sunday, no less. The biggest reason I left, though, was the rental rate hikes. I started at $151/month, and within a year, it jumped to $269. They raise rates multiple times a year, anywhere from $30-$45 per increase, which is unsustainable for long-term storage. A rep eventually told me that you can call to request a rate freeze when you get a price increase notice. I did this, and he claimed it was submitted--but sure enough, my rent still increased. That was the final straw. If you value your belongings and want to avoid rodents, unsanitary conditions, questionable security, aging units, and skyrocketing rent, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

When I first moved into this storage site in 2021 I had no issues with Rodents. But in 2026 - I hadn't visited my storage in almost a year and found 60 % of my personal belongings damaged by Rats who ate through my bags and boxes and feces and droppings everywhere. If I did not move into a larger unit I would have not been aware of the infestation. When I confronted the manger he mentioned they had a problem a while back but customers were never informed of the issues nor no preventative measures taken to control the problem with no traps. Because this happened on a weekend - I had to wait till Monday to discuss with mgmt - Joe told me I had to remove the damaged items from the old unit or he was going to move my items back into the infested unit. Avoid this place if you care about your items! We moved here 2 years ago and the 1st year seemed ok. This 2nd year we went and had mounds of dust and the worst ever... tons of rodent feces and urine all over our boxes, stuff. We have to toss a lot. We found a much cleaner independent storage facility that does pest control. Apparently this one does not. Your items will NOT be secure here!!!! We had to spend an entire day today, as well as $$$ in uhaul fees, to move the non damaged items (only those sealed in bin, and even then we had to wipe every bin/box before putting in uhaul). RATS: DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF HERE!!!!! Been storing stuff here for a few years and not once but TWICE my items have been destroyed by RATS. The manager told me over a year ago he was going to make it right....financially and get rid of the rodents, he never did anything except tell me the rats were gone. Went today to clear out the storage (have not been there in about a year) and it was completely overrun by RATS and they have the audacity to get mad because we left items outside of the unit , which mind you NOTHING is salvageable. Why should I have to deal with disease ridden items????? The told me they were going to charge me a min $100.00 clean up fee & take me to collections if I dispute my charges. GOOD LUCK getting that from me or another dime ! I am disputing all my charges for the past several months on this rat infested hell hole. Who want's to pay for a RAT MOTEL!!!!!! My family has rented various units here for 15+ years. There were issues but nothing like what I've been experiencing the last 5 months. First there was a break-in and my unit was left unsecured for a significant amount of time. I live out of state so I can't just go there whenever there's an issue. Then my card on file expired and it's been a NIGHTMARE. Every month I have to spend hours trying to get them to accept my payments, and I get different and completely unhelpful responses from every staff member I speak to. Late fees rack up and they refuse to admit there's an issue with their system. But what can I do? Until I can get to San Jose, they have me over a barrel. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone rent a space here unless you don't care about having your things covered in rat feces, urine and mold. This place has a very bad pest issue that management doesn't seem to care to fix. When I tell you all of my things were ruined by rats and roaches. everything had a foul smell and had to be thrown out. It also must of had a leak or all the urine caused mold to grow on everything. She took her time and walked me down to my unit, swept it, and even changed my lightbulb! It was all so kind of her, she walked back and forth to give me the most amazing service. We needed a storage unit to free up some space in our home so I started looking around. SecureSpace was affordable and convenient for our needs. We were able to get a drive up unit for a decent price with a special they had going, Courtney was friendly and helpful. We moved our stuff in the next day with no issues. The only reason for a 4 star is their software is horrible! The computer system was having some issues and we had to come back later to finish it unfortunately. Otherwise seems like a decent place to store your extra belongings. We'll see how things go over the first few months. read more

We've used this SecureSpace Self Storage facility two times in the past when we were renting before moving into our house. They have always been great. The units are clean and safe, and easy to get to. Fast forward ten years, and we needed to find a small storage space to hold some of my mom's belongings after selling her house, and I went down to see if this was still a good place to use. I was very impressed by Joseph and his knowledge, helpfulness, and friendliness. I'd say that SecureSpace has only improved in the last ten years. I'd highly recommend it for anyone who needs a self storage unit. read more

The Secure Space Self Storage on Lonus St. in San Jose is a really nice facility. The staff is friendly, helpful and efficient.The office is pleasant and roomy and they have packing supplies available if you need boxes, tape etc. I really like the easy gate entrance with no sharp corners or struggles to get in and out of. The space between the buildings is wide- making it very comfortable to drive through and get around the facility. It feels well kept up and maintained. I especially appreciate the clean and pleasant bathroom they have available! Overall, compared to other storage spaces I have used, the Lonus SecureSpace Storage is definitely the best. They have a good staff, a well-maintained property and convenient access. I definitely recommend them as my favorite storage place!! read more

Came here in August and signed for 2 separate units with the previous owners who were great. Within just a few months the new regime hiked our prices by 40%! They also tried to sneak in another $144 for insurance even after I told them we already have insurance and I provided them with proof! Find somewhere else. These people can't be trusted. read more

I have never reviewed negativley on Yelp, but I feel the need to warn others. I rented here for over 2 years. My expensive heirloom furniture that was stored here was completley ruined by the rat infestation they have. The insurance policy provided by them only reimbursed me $500 when my furniture destroyed cost more than 5K. It cost more to dump the detroyed furniture than I was paid by insurance, and I have no replacments. Mind you, I have rented here for 2 + years so have paid nearly 10K in rent alone. DO NOT rent here if you do not want your belongings detroyed by rodent infestation. Yes, the staff is friendly and helpful, but that does not make up for the huge loss of almost my entire unit. Rates change daily here, but prices are still very fair for the amount of space that you receive.
