Always a sweet visit! My daughter and I were immediately greeted and offered a sample, which, of course we accepted. Dark chocolate is my favorite and so I tried dark chocolate buttercream. We visited during lolly pallooza. Cafe latte Lolly for me. We stepped over to the counter and purchased one dark chocolate California brittle from my husband, and we're offered an additional sample of another favorite, dark chocolate scotchmallow. Very friendly staff members, not too crowded on the Fourth of July, and we rounded out to visit with a bag of dark chocolate hearts. This location always has great service. This was my first time going to this specific See's candy shop. Very small but it was fully stocked! They had all the guidelines and arrows for a safe experience and had a sign for capacity (8 unless you work there). I went to get the sugar free dark chocolate. I wanted to order online but they're always sold out. They had a good amount as well as other goodies, too! I waited in line and waited on the little circle that was on the floor for social distance. The cashier was very nice and friendly! It was quick with no contact other than giving the chocolate back to me. What's not to love about a store that gives you a full size sample as soon as you walk in and never pressures you to buy anything? See's knows their candy sells itself so they give you a sample and know you will buy more! Now that the Lloyd Center and downtown Portland locations have closed, if you want to visit a See's Candies store in person, you need to drive to the suburbs. The Tannesbourne store is small but all varieties are well represented. Dark, milk, nuts, caramels, marshmallow, creams, sugar free, toffee - by the piece or bar or box - it's all here! Laid out like an old fashioned candy store with black and white tiled floors, boxes of various candy assortments stocked high on the shelves along the walls, carousels containing small parcels of their best sellers, and a case where you can buy individual pieces by the pound or create your own box, it's a chocolate lovers paradise.   I'm a huge fan of dark chocolate and they have delicious dark chocolate toffee but my all time favorite is the dark chocolate covered marshmallows. The marshmallows are home made and soooo good! During the holidays they sell boxes of individual chocolate covered hearts or Easter eggs and I always pick up a few boxes. The seasonal boxes go fast so go now (January) if you want the Valentine's hearts. My only "con" is the price. At $22.95 a pound it is expensive but the norm these days for gourmet chocolate. Makes me feel old because I remember when it was $12.99 a pound. OMG, did I just say that? I've become my grandfather! Small parking lot out front; visit on off hours and it's easier to find a spot. read more

He asked the very kind woman helping him if she could brush the chocolate sprinkles off of the pieces of Bordeaux chocolate before putting them in the box. She did it without complaint! The staff are always very kind and helpful throughout my visits although the clean layout of the store makes it pretty easy to decide on something. The chocolates are delicious of course. I wish there was a slightly larger collection of sugar free chocolates but I'm more than happy with the current one. read more

Now a 1lb gift certificate is not good for 1lb of chocolates. What a scam! I have a huge stack of 1lb gift certificates that I have bought over the years through fund raisers and now they are changing the terms of the certificate. 1lb gift certificates are for 1lb of pre-packaged boxes, not custom boxes. For custom boxes, you have to pay an extra $1. To top that off, the service sucks. I tell the lady that I want a 1lb box of chocolate and I show her my gift certificate. I start choosing what I want, then I keep asking her where are we at with the weight. I asked her 3 times. She refuses to weigh it and tells me how many pieces I have left. Wow....she must be really good because she can eyeball 1lb of chocolates. After she says that should do it, we weigh it and it's 1.6lbs. She explains to me that my certificate won't cover it and I will have to pay more because it's more than 1lb. I told her that I only want 1lb and that is what I said at the beginning and that is why I kept asking for her to weigh it. She lays out a big sigh that I did something wrong, so she tells me that I have to remove it. She removes 4 cups, then she says, is that good enough? At that point, it was 1.4lbs. I told her "no", I only want 1lb and I won't spend a dime more. We finally get to exactly 1.0lbs. I say "great". Here is my certificate. Then, she tells me that it will be $1. I ask her "why?" She says this certificate is only good for prepackaged boxes, not custom chocolates. I told her that I have been using these certificates for the past 30 years and I have never heard of such rule. She says it changed a month ago. There is no sign and I don't think this is legal. You cannot change the terms of a gift certificate that specifically says 1lb. This whole thing should have taken no more than 5 mins and it turned into a 15 minute fiasco. Train your employees! Tell customers before they start choosing their chocolate, that there will be a $1 charge. read more

Delicious chocolates by the pound and much more. Lots of variety, including seasonal items. Strip mall location with awkward parking lot design, can get crowded due to the Sprint and Panda Express. I went on a Monday around dinner time and there was only one person working there. I bought two 1 pound boxes, a little under $50 total, and it was a painstakingly slow process. This is because they put each chocolate or two in individual liners in the box, plus they occasionally wrap individual chocolates if the flavor would somehow affect the other chocolates (e.g. mint). I like how they have a chocolate menu printed with pictures and detailed descriptions. They have a lot more in store than what is listed online. I used to buy the pre-boxed boxes, but was usually disappointed with the lack of variety...making a custom box is SO much better! read more

How is it that See's closed its downtown Portland store? They make very good candies, mostly chocolate in a wide variety of flavors. They always have things for whatever holiday is in season, especially Christmas and Easter. The staff is always friendly, always give you a sample (it works some of my favorite chocolates I discovered by sample). They have pre boxed chocolates and they are happy to make a custom box for you, or sell you loose chocolates, They also make very good Brittle and "suckers". read more

We really love the chocolate here. The customer service is also excellent. We had placed an online order. A few days after picking up the order we realized there had been a mistake, we had ordered part of the box to have dark patties and instead had dark peppermints (which look very similar). Called up and they apologized and provided us a whole new box with the correct chocolates we had ordered plus the other chocolates in the box. Went above and beyond in my opinion. read more

Who doesn't like See's? Great quality chocolate treats, a free sample with every visit and very friendly staff. Seriously, what's not to like? Everything I have ever had here was very good and not as pricey as some other local chocolate shops. Plus the free sample kinda wins me over. For stocking stuffers, this is the chocolate that must be in my kids stockings. I can't imagine too many things worse than waking up Christmas morning to a stocking filled with Palmer's fake "chocolate"...please don't do that to your kids. lol. It's just wrong. Spend a little bit more and get them treats they will really love. See's even has sugar free chocolates if you need that. While the chocolates here are not as extraordinary as some you will find at smaller mom and pop style chocolate stores, for a chain it really does impress with the level of quality the consistently dish out. Making See's a good 'ole stand by for last minute gifts, stockings, Easter baskets and yummy treats throughout the year. BTW, the staff here are always superb! read more

This used to be a very friendly location. I was treated as an important customer every time I entered this store. The girls working there always remembered me. Suddenly they both stopped working there and the new employees couldn't care less about customer service. My suggestion is find another See's location or try Godiva. read more
