We had such a fabulous time at Clockwork celebrating my best friend's birthday in early April! We were in on April 11th and every member of the staff was kind and helpful. We did the classic tasting without any add-ons except for mimosas while we were there. The highlights? We were raving about the vanilla scones (so simple, so good!), the meat pie, and the tea sandwiches. Every tea we selected was delicious and the pomegranate mimosas were a highlight for all of us. I encourage leaning into the theme, get dressed up, wear a fascinator, and fall into wonderland! What a fantastic gem this is! Reservations are highly recommended and we had made one several months in advanced. We were in on a Saturday afternoon and nearly every table was occupied while we were there, yet it felt like we were the only table. The setting is very cool. There's so many hidden gems as you look around the space. Even down to their dinnerware and teapots. Each one unique and fun, enough to generate table conversations. Our server, Joey, was fantastic! He took the time to go over his favorite teas and answer any questions we had about ones we were interested in. I'm not a huge tea fan and I really enjoyed the one I got (birthday black tea-decaf). The food was so yummy! Our party were all so excited to try everything. The vanilla scone was the standout for me, but I did truly enjoy everything. What an amazing experience! We happened to go during a Harry Potter theme, and everything was so impressively decorated. Everything seemed to have been altered to fit the theme and it was just so cool! The tea was delicious, I really wish they'd had the one I tried, but they were out. The savory and sweet treats were cute, adorably set up, and quite tasty. I'm not partial to finger sandwiches, so these were not for me, but the little hot savory items were very flaky and tasty! I particularly liked the macarons and the lemon curd. The staff were so friendly and kept up with the theming. There was also a magician and his tricks were quite good! Can I do 6 stars? First time we went here. WOW! This place has all 3 categories covered. 1. Top notch service by Tabitha who I think has a Masters degree in "tea". She knows all about ALL of them and there are a bunch of teas here in multiple categories. She really treated us like her family. 2. Top notch food. Oh my God everything on all 3 tiers of the serving tray was so tasty. The Tomato Bisque soup to start things off was definitely the best I've ever had. The teas (we had 2) we're wonderful. A whole pot for each of us. The pomegranate Mimosa was great. I'm pretty sure we'll never go back to OJ for that drink. 3. ATMOSPHERE ! ! ! The mix of Victorian and Steam Punk is so well done you can't help staring at the walls and ceiling and we couldn't stop taking pics (until the food came of course). The obvious time taken to collect and arrange the pieces throughout the venue filling all the nooks and crannies resulted in such a wonderful place to be. The 2 hours flew by. I don't know if we'll ever be back to the Portland area again but if we are Clockwork Rose Tearoom Emporium is #1 on our REPEAT list. The tea service is delicious and homemade. The selection is wonderful. The staff are excellent and the service is exquisite. The level of detail and decoration is second to none. I has really high hopes going to this little tea shop for high tea because of the good reviews. The decor was very cute and unique but the experience as a whole wasn't that great. Before things even came out, my cousin noticed a lipstick stain and a black speck inside of her cup. She told the lady that brought our food out and she said "oh that's just a tea leave" as if that's ok?????? We would have been way more comfortable if she just apologized and said let me get you a new cup or something but she didn't. To start off, we were missing the milk jug from our tea set and neither of the people who came to our table paid enough attention to even notice. I think the milk jug is a huge part to a high tea set. We ended up having to ask for it after they delivered our tea. They had a great tea selection but I'm not sure if it's because it was steeped for long enough, but the tea was flavorless. Now onto the food. Everything looked like it was bought elsewhere and just put on the plate. Nothing tasted or felt authentic. To me, part of the a good tea experience is how delicious and fresh all the cakes, scones and treats usually taste. I didn't get this experience from this tea shop at all. This is the most amazing high tea experience I have had to date. Everything is so well thought out. The table setting is exqusite, every tea pot is unique, beautiful and different. You start with a salad, and then you get the traditional High Tea, but what I really liked is you get 3 cold sandwiches and 3 hot bites. My fav was this mini veggie pot pie. However, there was nothing that wasn't less than expectional. The decor feel like something out of a scene from the movie Hugo. The room you dine is called "Hogwarts," but given all the clocks I thought it felt more like "Hugo." Even the bathrooms are photo worthy. One has sort of 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea vibe, which includes an old fashion scuba man, and a octopus on the floor that was made from pennies. Make sure to take your phone with you to the bathroom, as it is photo worthy. The staff was equally great, they volunterred to take pictures, and would even move things around the table to ensure you were getting the best shot. First time yesterday (exploring high tea in the region is one of our hobbies) and they have a great start...a few more tweaks and it would be perfect! 1. Music: too loud where we were seated...the mix also had some strange songs with high pitched vocals. How about classical, ambient, light holiday music or something else unobtrusive. 2. Menu: we did the $70 Dickens Christmas tea which was very heavy. A light salad instead of the potato soup would've been appreciated as a fresher accompaniment among all of the pastries and other carbs. Overall, there was nothing fresh on the menu, no fresh fruit.... We missed the crisp of the cucumber sandwiches. The carbs that were there were delicious though, all the different pies. The plum pudding was missing. The tea was weak, need to leave the bags in there longer. The scones were a bit gluey. Beautiful presentation! 3. Lighting: it was dark above one end of our table. We were in the back near the bathrooms. The light was covered with a decorative element so I don't think there was much to be done about the darkness. I cannot recommend this place enough. You need to visit if you haven't already. My boyfriend and I did the afternoon tea for two which was $50/person. I think this is pretty standard pricing from my experience going to afternoon teas. They do require a reservation in advance for the afternoon tea. The theming of the place is wonderful, they had some Harry Potter decorations and other bits that made it feel very magical/steampunk-like. We were led through the cafe to the dining area where they had the tables all set up. The teapots and plates they had were very cute. Once we were seated at our table, our server lets us know how everything would flow. First, we had to pick out our tea. Each person gets their own pot of tea and the pots each hold a lot of tea (I think they said like 8 teacups worth). Their tea menu is very extensive with black, oolong, green, white and herbal selections. We weren't sure what to pick but luckily our server was very knowledgeable and walked us through the menu with a brief description of each tea and made some recommendations based on flavors we enjoyed. My boyfriend got Harold's Chai (House Blend) which is an original recipe that the owner came up with. I got the Paris Tea which is a black tea with hints of caramel, fruits and vanilla. They also have sugar and creamer on the table, so I made myself a creamy caramel tea. Both the teas were high quality and very flavorful, but the Paris tea was one of the best ones that I've ever had. I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing the loose-leaf version after to take home. Next came the soups - I would say these are pretty average soups. Enjoyable but not the best. Then our server brought the 3-tier platter of goodies and walked up through everything that was on it. The bottom tier had the more savory bites like finger sandwiches, quiche, hot dog roll, meat pastry). The middle tier had the scones with a lemon jam, raspberry jam and clotted cream. The top tier had the macaroons, little cakes with cotton candy meringue, a donut and fruit tart. The presentation was beautiful! My favorites were the finger sandwiches, scone with clotted cream and the macaroons. Overall - I had a wonderful experience. Knowledgeable staff, great presentation of the food, delicious teas and lovely atmosphere. First walked in, after waiting for our food at a nearby restaurant and was mesmerized by the cute and adorable decoration by the window. (Steam punk themed at the time) and once entered, it was like my very own Alice in Wonderland meets Steampunk. Spoke with a staff member and they explained that we need to make a reservation online to enjoy the experience. After doing so and returning, we had so much fun with the tea selection (yes, each person gets their own teapot). A shared tray of tasty delectables all assorted and displayed beautifully, but best of all- very very accommodating. Dietary restriction? (Lactose intolerant, or Vegan)? Add it on to your cart when scheduling for the reservation and they will customize your items and substitute ingredients. Overall, very enjoyable experience. We've returned for their Harry Potter themed event and that was also a blast! Wow were to begin. It's a good problem when you have so many good things to say that it's hard to find a starting point. I'll start by saying not only do I HIGHLY recommend the Clockrose Tea Emporium but I also actively try and take people here. It doesn't matter if they are visiting or local because I'm always looking for a reason to come here! I think it's important to discuss expectations. If you know what you're in for there is a much higher chance you'll enjoy this experience. 1.) Make a reservation on their website! Normally they are by reservation only so plan accordingly. 2.) Bring cash for a tip. When you make the reservation, that's when you pay and it doesn't give the option to tip. The staff is wonderful and I'm sure you'll feel inclined to take care of them, so unless you're planning on buying something on the way out bring some cash. 3.) You are paying as much for the experience as you are the food and tea. It's not like they put on a show or anything but the whole tea experience is a really fun time. Everything from the unique playlist to the decor that all works in tandem with each other to create a fun and truly original experience. I always leave completely stuffed too so food quantity is on the level. 4.) If you're not a tea drinker don't worry! I wouldn't normally call myself a tea drinker, especially on a regular basis. Having tea here has really broadened my views on what tea can be. With a bit of help from the staff I've actually found some different teas that I REALLY enjoy. I was not expecting that to happen when I first came here. They occasionally have special events which are a blast too. Definitely would suggest getting in on that if you are able to. The experience has always been great and the staff is exceptional. They really add to the experience. A special thanks to them. It's a unique experience that I think is worth trying. Super cute place. It's a family owned tea shop. I have been to other afternoon tea places (one in Portland Downtown and another in Las Vegas). This was by far my husband and I's new favorite. I love that they make teas specifically for the shop and have tea that you could only get in specific locations. Their food options were so good. I am currently on a dairy free diet and they were able to accommodate it. Love how even the food changes as well.
