One of their locations in downtown Portland had a fire recently, and so they're currently utilizing their truck and parking it just around the corner in a shared foot truck lot in the meantime. Fifty Licks is often compared to Salt and Straw because of their unique and interesting flavors. Their most popular flavors are their MANGO STICKY RICE and OREGON STRAWBERRY (and yes- Oregon strawberries are unique and much sweeter than your average Driscoll strawberries found in the supermarket). They give samples and so I sampled the HONEY CORNBREAD and the MATCHA MOCHI which were both great (the latter which had great sticky mochi texture but could use stronger matcha flavor), but I fell in love with their MANGO STICKY RICE. MANGO STICKY RICE is a classic Thai dessert made from as you guessed, mango and sticky rice mixed with sweet coconut. Fifty Lick's rendition of this dessert is spot on and is full of coconut, pieces of rice (which I don't know how they keep them from hardening!), and a mango compote swirl. It was creamy (not to mention vegan and gluten free) and may have been one of the best ice cream scoops I've had in a long time. A single scoop is $6.90, which I believe is pretty similar to Salt and Straw. The woman working the truck was super friendly and happy. The truck shares communal outdoor bench seating with the other food trucks around it, but I had no problem getting a seat. As an ice cream fanatic, Fifty Licks definitely lives up to the hype and worth the stop. We checked on our order twice because our children were hungry and there seemed to be no progress. We were told there were computer system issues, which we understood, so we continued to wait. Eventually, after more than half an hour with nothing received, we requested a refund. While the restaurant refunded the food charges, they did not refund the tip. That was unacceptable. Not only was our time wasted, but we were essentially charged for service we never received. What made the situation worse was the lack of customer service. The manager's response felt dismissive, and there was no genuine apology or effort to make things right. A brief "sorry about that" at the end came across as an afterthought rather than sincere concern. It's now nearly a week later, and I still have not received a refund for the tip. Person in charge said they cannot refund my tip from the store but it must be corporate. Wrote a little note on my receipt, put it in the drawer and said they will submit a request. I left feeling completely ripped off and unvalued as a customer. The impression I got was that because this location is in Bridgeport and likely has plenty of business, losing a customer simply didn't matter. Mistakes happen, especially during busy periods. What matters is how they're handled. Unfortunately, this experience was handled poorly.

There was only one employee working in the front, and many delivery drivers and customers were waiting. When we arrived, he asked for the customer names, so we thought he was checking the orders. But instead of calling out the orders that were already prepared and sitting there, he kept everyone waiting. After a long time, one customer looked at the prepared orders herself and realized her order had been ready the whole time. Then I checked as well and saw that both of my delivery orders had also been sitting there ready. I showed him the names, and he handed them to me immediately. This means I waited there for at least 20 minutes for no reason. There were at least 6 other drivers waiting too, and after me they also had to ask him directly before they could finally get their orders. So this was not just affecting me. It was delaying delivery drivers, customers inside the store, and customers waiting at home for their food. This was very unprofessional and caused unnecessary delays for everyone.
