Came in asking to talk to Manager On Duty, since he was standing right next to the employee who was ringing people up. The girl at the register proceeded to insist she'd just handle my questions instead, dismissing the fact I was asking to talk to the MOD, not her. I explained that my grandma has been coming to See's for years to buy her friends and family Christmas chocolates ($200+ in purchases). Unfortunately, this year she had cataract surgery in both eyes and with her age (now 87 years old) I as her grand daughter have intervened, as she is simply old to be driving up to the Rosecrans location every single year. I wanted to politely explain this, but sadly she was super quick to shut down any dialogue and I was shocked that the manager did not address me in any capacity at all, not even a hello. I was super nice and the main reason I was asking for the manager is simply because I didn't want to be rude by holding up the line. It was honestly such a bizarre experience and felt combative, even though it really did not need to be combative. I talked super slow and calmly, to not be met with the same level of kindness seemed unwarranted. It sounds like we will have to do our own driving arrangements to take my up to the Rosecrans location, which is fine after interacting with the staff here. I also asked if they do any student discounts, or even mall employee discounts (as I am eligible for both), but like I said, they didn't seem like they were wanting to talk, it seemed like they just wanted to prevent me from contesting their line. And the manager watched the entire interaction in silence. As somebody who works in this mall, right near by, I will definitely be actively doing what I can to deter people from coming into this location as it lacked total professionalism from the manager and felt combative for no reason. I want to make it super clear that I do not mind the fact that they are unable to accommodate. I just want to make it clear there are better ways to run a business and this personally not how I would run mine. It is also worth noting that on the way out the manager did address me to offer me a free sample as if that would negate the treatment from the girl upfront . Maybe he was trying to do damage control, who knows, but I politely declined as I felt uncomfortable. read more

I had been a regular customer to this store, no more. On Christmas Eve they ran out of boxed candy in the morning, how is that even possible on their busiest day of the year, management has to get fired. Fashion valley See's still had candy near closing time. Since the Chula Vista See's store didn't have the boxed candy they agreed to put together several pound boxes for me each for the price of a regular pound box. After waiting 40 minutes they charged me more than what we agreed to. I said no thanks and went to Fashion valley and bought several pounds. Won't be going back to East Chula Vista See's any time soon. read more

I normally go to the Chula Vista location, but since I was in the area, I decided to stop by to save time. That was a mistake. On two occasions as I was browsing, one of the helpers, who appeared to be the manager (blonde hair, glasses) asked those who were browsing if they were ready to check out. One person was ready, so they went to the counter to pay. As soon as that person finished, I walked over to be checked out. The helper then proceeded to walk away, leaving me standing there. I thought, "Ok, maybe she needs to do something important." Nope! She walked back to the showroom and wandered around without so much as acknowledging me. She clearly saw me, so there's no mistaking I was in line to checkout. Then another helper came out from the back and asked anyone on the showroom area if they needed help. I was 6 feet away, clearly standing at the checkout counter, yet I was ignored. She didn't look at me or make eye contact, which any self-respecting customer service agent would do. And it's not like I was being rude -- from the moment I stepped in the store until I left, I was quiet and polite. Finally, someone behind the counter asked if I needed help. Yes, I said, I do need help, and that I was ignored for almost 10 minutes. The helper proceeded to tell me in a less-than-polite fashion that the line formed "over there," where people were standing to get custom boxes. I told her that I didn't need a custom box, and that I was ready to check out -- something other helpers had been doing already. After hearing what I said, the floor helper who was oblivious to my presence finally steps forward to ask if I needed help. She was kind enough, but I wasn't pleased with what had just transacted. All of this is a direct reflection on management, which in my estimation is very poor. Do better, Sees Candies. The manager of this store needs to be re-trained and possibly reprimanded for their poor customer service practices. read more

I had a gift certificate to See's candy that I received as a gift. (this is a great gift to give because you can pick out all of your favorites). While I was browsing, an employee offered me a sample. Yum! I hand-picked a pound of all of my favorites! My server was very friendly. And I received another free sample. I noticed that they have these cute little lollipop holders that say "happy birthday". You can get any flavor lollipop that you like! It was only $1.90! It's like a card, you can just write on the back of it. But it's cheaper than a bday card and so much cuter. I really should stock up on some of these! My husband thinks that only grandmas shop at See's, but let me tell ya, I'm no grandma and I shop here. It's the perfect place to go when I have no idea what to get people that I don't really know. They have a box of those lollipops that are really good, but are mini size. I think they're like $4 bucks for one box so you really can't go wrong. They have reopened and according to the employees not just for the holiday season. This store is considerably larger than the one on Broadway and the parking is vastly superior. Some of the prior employees have returned and provide the same superior customer experience they did before some corporate bean counter decided they should be closed. During the intervening period we ceased shopping at See's and used the numerous other chocolatiers in the greater San Diego area rather than repeat the dismal experiences we have had at the store on Broadway. But I had to write one about this one because the sales people were super friendly, gave a lot of samples and suggested different types of candies based on people's personalities. They also pointed out that I can make my own personalized box of candies and not have to get the generic ones off the shelf, and explained some stuff that in other places would not have bothered to do. read more

If we could give TEN stars, we would! The Otay Ranch See's Candies has been a Friday Date Night destination for my wife and me for close to two years now. Alex, Josabette, Cynthia and the entire crew there are so genuinely warm and friendly that they've really made it feel like a home away from home for us. We truly consider them friends. They're never pushy (with candy this good, they don't need to be), and so pleasant to talk with. It's gotten to the point now that they know exactly what we want to buy--now THAT'S attentive customer service! And it's not just a place we go to on date night. It's become an oasis for us after a rough day. Some of our favorites are Scotchmallow Bars, California Brittle, almond buds, caramel w/almonds, Scotchkisses, and milk cherries. But really, it's hard to go wrong with anything in the store. There's just an overtly distinct difference in the taste and quality of See's over other brands, like there's literally LOVE in the recipe! And for our family, it's this combination of having a superb product and exemplary people selling it that keeps us coming back every time! Thanks guys! I love how they always give free samples upon coming in! How sweet is that literally and figuratively. I used to think Sees was expensive. But today the hubby and I picked out 9 or 10 pieces (we ate half the bag so fast we lost count) for $5.60. My sisters and i just bought a box of macarons for $2.50/piece so this justified ~$.62 a piece for candy. I don't use the word OMG but in this case, it applies! They have such good quality chocolates. Love the dark chocolate almond and walnut, almond truffle, and one of the peanut butter pieces the girl recommended. I promised my two boys (5 and 7 years old) a trip to See's. The lady welcomed us as we entered the store. The store is very neat and clean. The hostess asked us if we would like a sample. I allowed my boys a sample but i took none. After ordering a few pieces for our box of 10, my 7 year old asked if he could try another piece. I asked the hostess if this was possible, she immediately became annoyed, rolled her eyes, and rudely said, they only get one. I would have been very comfortable with a polite reply, the histrionics were not necessary. I replied with a kind apology and told her thank you. She immediately, went and cut a piece in half to give my boys one piece each. I politely declined her offer. She Explained, because I took no sample, they could split what would have been my sample. Again i kindly declined her offer. Because my children are young and were unaware of the rational of my actions, they asked for the piecesshe had offered. I allowed it. I filled my box, bought a few extra pieces, paid and as i was preparing to leave, she offered me even more free samples. Again, i politely declined. If i had not promised my boys the trip to See's i would have left and purchased nothing. The hostess has no interpersonal tact at all. The stars are for the chocolate not the service. read more
