This See's Candies is located in the Madonna Plaza Shopping Center. There is ample parking available. The store is clean and orderly, and one usually receives a welcoming sample or two when visiting. This location is usually rather busy, and we noticed the staff interacts on a less friendly basis compared to other See's locations. One can either choose a pre-packaged variety box of chocolates, or one can custom assemble their own to their preference. I have had a love affair with See's candies ever since I discovered them in the airports when I was flying back and forth to the East coast. It was so convenient (and delicious) to grab a prewrapped box for anyone on my gift- giving list for holidays and family gatherings! Plus, I knew that they would be sure to enjoy them! Their seasonal wrappings and products have always lured me in, but it is the quality of the chocolates that keeps me hooked. I have had the chance to eat many high end chocolates, like Godiva or Ghirardelli, but for some reason, See's always tastes the best to me! A nice big OPEN sign welcomed me at the SLO store at Madonna Plaza, and a very friendly lady in a See's outfit walked right up and offered me a chocolate. She then proceeded to describe the new Easter offerings in detail, pointing out any changes from past years. Again, the wraps are charming and timeless, like the chocolates themselves and I had fun choosing a beautiful egg shaped tin with bunnies on it for a friend. When I had to wait a moment at the counter, another clerk gestured me to the front of the store where she rang up my purchase immediately! I have loved see's candies for so many years I cannot count. I have tried many other high-end candies some in Europe but honestly I like see's better. I love it when they have the specials of the month you get to try something different. I always have molasses chips in my house and I love dark chocolate better than milk chocolate. Dear Pat Egan, President and CEO of See's Candy, I can understand having only one clerk in the San Luis Obispo store since See's is barely getting started in business and no doubt desperately hoping to make a profit. Is it unreasonable to expect to be waited on within 7 minutes on a Thursday at around 11:00 A.M.? It would have helped if the one employee would look up at other customers in line and say, "Welcome, I will be with you shortly." It is frustrating to be totally ignored while watching the one employee laboriously dealing with a customer ordering 4 of these, 2 of those, a sample of this, a half a pound of that, 6 of this lollipop and 8 of that one. Many people have given up and left. That was me today. read more

I purchased gift cards at Costco for... I purchased gift cards at Costco for your chocolates. $125 worth of gift cards. I wanted to give them as a gift / buy chocolates for my CPA this year. Your prices online look very similar to local - in store local prices (which all my local stores are closed) due to COVID However when going through the checkout your site says " yous cannot purchase because your cards have been purchased at a discount" YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE A SIGN AT COSTCO THAT SAYS "AT SEES, WE'RE GOING TO RAISE OUR PRICES IF YOU TRY TO USE THESE CARDS" What the heck is the point.??Deeply disappointed as I wanted to use these cards and spend $120 on chocolate. (Glad I didn't hand these out as gifts!) What an ugly surprise for friends and family. Total bate and switch marketing. Reluctantly I feel I have to let Costco know as this is not honest marketing. I stopped in Pismo Beach to go to California Fresh. While I was there, I saw the See's Candies store and since I hadn't been to a See's store in 2+ years, I went in. I just ordered a few of my favorite candies. My experience was awesome. I felt appreciated for being a customer. The lady waiting on me offered a sample, was very friendly, and didn't rush me to make my choices. It was the best customer service I have had in a very long time. See's is my favorite holiday stop! In my opinion not only is this the best chocolate you can buy but the staff is always friendly and patient. My favorite worker is Christy in the SLO store. She is always so patient, gives great recommendations and even helps me come up with the best gift giving ideas for all the people on my list. This year we did some super cute gift assortment in the shopping tote. Cant wait to give my gifts and I know everyone will just love using the tote all year long. I come into this store about every two weeks. My husband and I buy a pound of bridge mix to put in the beautiful glass jar we keep it in. Plus I get a pound box that I specifically pick out each piece that goes in it. The staff knows us well now. Everyone who works there is kind, polite, and helpful. The service at this location is abysmal. I called ahead and, due to Covid, asked if they would do a phone order with curbside pick up (as other see's and most food stores and other places of business are doing). The woman on the phone scoffed and said no, they don't do that, and then asked sarcastically "are you handicapped or something!?" Seriously?! I just inquired if they would be willing to do curbside pickup due to the deadly pandemic as a courtesy, and I got a sarcastic snort asking if I was handicapped and unable to walk in to get the order? I had to sleep on this one and am still thinking about it so had to take the time to write about it. Yesterday around 4ish my husband and I thought we'd get a little Christmas shopping done. It was our anniversay, I'd unexpectedly gotten off work early and so we were having a nice day. We headed into Sees and saw that the line was kind of long. Right away we realized why. There were only two women in the store and one was training the other. As a young man came rushing in and immediately started assisting us. He announced that he would take the next person in line who was just purchasing pre-packaged candy. I am not sure what the story was, if he was a little late, or if the woman training was just frustrated because it seemed as if everyone wanted to custom pick every single candy they wanted in every pound of candy they were buying. (I GET how annoying that might be, because it was to us customers standing in line.) BUT she barked at the young man, telling him that was NOT the way to do it and proceeded to tell him HOW to DO IT! It was uncomfortable for all of us standing in line. The young man was very gracious and obeyed her orders and didn't appear to even notice the mistreatment, which just made it even worse. As I was leaving, I commended the young man for doing such a good job and he just beamed and told me to have a good evening. I really think that those in the customer service business need to realize that everyone is watching even when you don't realize it. And though I understand that there may have been other issues we didn't know about, I am sure that if anyone who was in that store yesterday and read this would agree, it is not necesarry to be unkind. Even if you are not rude to the customer, it is uncomfortable to watch someone else be unkind to another. Good customer service is the over all experience. Sees has always been such a cheerful place. The young man stayed cheerful the whole time, even when he was being scolded in front of the entire store. I am thinking that the wrong one was doing the training in this instance. read more

Superior quality when it comes to chocolates. I do, however, wish they would have more employees working the counter. I have visited this location 3 times now, and all 3 times the line was to the door with only 1 employee working the counter. I see so many customers walk out of the store due to not wanting to wait in line. (Average wait time for me has been 20+ minutes). I would love to be able to run in, get my chocolates, and get out. That would be ideal. Also, think that they would be making extra money by not having all those customers leave discouraged. read more

Can't go wrong with See's. This place is a good size and though the lines can grow long and slow the staff are normally helpful. They can sometimes be a bit pushy if you just want to look before making any decisions, but whatever. The chocolate is good and the selection here is great. read more

Service just OK. Candy tasted stale. All the dark chocolates were missing from the display, she said they were "cleaning." Shouldn't this be done after the shop closes? I need to see the candies to make my choices! I've enjoyed See's for over 50 years and this is not the fresh quality product and mouth-watering presentation I've come to expect. Sad. Update one week later: everything now OK, candy fresh and creamy just like it should be...DELICIOUS as only See's can be! All displays perfect once more...guess I caught them on an off day before? This is the best See's I've been to, and the other stores I've been to have been just fine. This store, however, has the best customer service. My partner and I went in with a gift certificate for a pound of chocolates, and by the time we'd left, the lady had given us SIX CHOCOLATES TO SAMPLE! That's practically a small box right there. We didn't spend a penny, got our perfect mix of chocolates for our box and enjoyed a dark chocolate raspberry truffle (very good, and I don't like dark chocolate or raspberry in chocolate, usually), a milk chocolate vanilla almond walnut truffle (also nice) and a white chocolate apple pie truffle (shockingly good, with real chunks of apple and a real apple pie taste). (She started us with one each, but just by talking about the different flavors, she kept offering to let us try them-- and we didn't want to be rude and refuse... ) ;-) So, if you need See's, go here! You won't go wrong with the super nice ladies who keep giving you chocolate. read more

I have been eating See's candy since I was a little girl. My mom would buy it every Christmas and it was a very special treat. Her dad (my grampa) lived in North Carolina and every year at Christmas his only request was a box of See's candy. So, See's and Christmas go hand in hand for me. It's a tradition and brings back many memories of my mom and Christmases as a kid. This See's candy store is very clean, organized and every single person working there is beyond nice and helpful. it does get crowded and busy during the holidays, but to me, it's worth the wait. I was rushing and showed up 3/4/18, they had just closed about 2 or 3 minutes before, they saw me check the door and were sweet enough to come and unlock it and invite me in. WOW!!!!! I quickly grabbed a box for my nephew and got out of there, I was on my way to his Birthday party and that was one gift that is tradition. My husband just spent 35 minutes at this location. On a Saturday, of all days, they had some trainees working the front counter. One couple took longer than 30 minutes to select their custom boxes and have them wrapped. My husband purchased 8 prepackaged items, Not a bad sale $$ wise. As my husband was finally leaving, (after 30 mins in line), someone finally came out from the back area to take all the prepackaged orders at the front register. Why were they not out front the whole time? If there was a delivery, or other business necessity in the rear of the store, why would it be scheduled for 10:00 am on a Saturday before Christmas???? I cannot recommend visiting this location at this time of year. This is not the first time this has happened. Customer service at peak times is sorely lacking. Well I'm sorry to say that recently I had a very unhappy finding at sees , which I've been eating for 50 years. Hadn't been in a store for a couple years but recently went in twice in two weeks. The two experiences couldn't have been more different for the same location. !!! Really bizarre. If I were to rate for the first experience it would be 5 stars. Both for the store visit right before Halloween and the quality if the purchase. Both were very satisfying. Then I took my twenty year old daughter in to reminisce (my mother recently passed on and it was grandmas favorite place) and to pick her own box piece by piece. The contrast in friendliness and customer service remarkable. Which is why I'm writing this. The stars would be 1 if based on that trip. Anyway. When we got home the candy was all wrong!! And the counter help said she was hard of hearing!! But she never indicated she didn't understand or hear us after the first statement about her hearing loss. But why would this happen ??? No sample. Uptight second person who didn't want to answer questions about prepacked selections. I like this place but what is happening. ?? Anyway it really depends on the day and the staff. read more
