This is such a wonderful place. I bought my mother-in-law, a gift certificate for two candlemaking classes for her birthday. She decided to invite me to go along to make a candle with her. The two women who were working the shop when we came in, were super lovely. They were friendly, very knowledgeable about the products they have in the store. The store itself is very aesthetically pleasing. Everything is clean, well organized and displayed beautifully. You sit at the candle bar and Vera our teacher, dropped some knowledge on you about candles and the candle making process. We learned some very interesting things that I did not know before. After she is done teaching you, then it is time to make your candle. You get taken step-by-step through the process and it's very fun to create your own custom fragrance blend for your candle. While you're listening and learning, or when you're finished making your candle, there was a sweet charcuterie box to munch on. They also offered beverages as well. The ladies that were in the shot that day treated us like we have been friends for years. We chatted together, laughed together and shared pictures of our adorable dogs with each other. This is such a wonderful experience, and definitely a great way to educate yourself on clean products like candles that are better for you to burn in your house than what you could traditionally by the store. They also offer other things that you can come in on your own and create without having to sign up for a class. They offer things such as laundry detergent, shampoo, dog soap, room, freshener, and so much more. They are variety of bottles at the filling station to choose from depending on what it is that you were wanting. Woven, is a company that sells their products there. I got a beautiful, macramé wristlet keychain that I absolutely love. The woman who owns that small business was also in the shop and chatted with us. She was a true joy to talk to. I absolutely adored her. This is such a sweet shop in the village of Arroyo, grande and definitely worth a trip, whether it's to attend a candle making class, shot the premade candles and other goodies or create some thing else on your own time. What a fun experience! Came with a group and was thrilled to have the owner share her story, their mission and an education in what I'll call crap(toxic) candles. I guess if I had ever really thought about the ingredients of a candle it only makes sense. What a surprise to learn which made the experience even better. The location is perfect and quaint with an amazing selection of one of a kind gifts. Of course the place smells amazing with all the candles and essential oils. I had such a great time and loved the ability to create your own signature candle. I've now been back again to create a one of a kind gift for my girlfriends for the holidays. The online reservation system is super easy to book for a party or individual like I did last time. Gina was so nice and helpful in helping me determine if they had the scents I needed before I booked. Looking forward to scheduling my next party with my girlfriends for a girl's night out. They even have charcuterie you can add to sip with BYO beverage. Not prepared? Don't worry there is a great selection next door. Recommend planning to go and grab some lunch or dinner, do some shopping then swing back to grab your candle after it cures (1-2 hours depending on the size). I met Karla (the business owner) at a Maker's Market pop up in Arroyo Grande (AG) maybe two years ago. We got to talking and in a quick 5-7 minute conversation, she educated me on a lot of things with candles and how terrible store bought ones can be for you. Ever since that convo, "regular" candles are not welcome in my home as I know they pollute the air in my house and are full of toxins and chemicals that are terrible to breathe in. After that, I found the "Pismo Beach" scent and I am OBSESSED. I need my whole house to smell like this.. lol! Bought one on the spot for my office and visited the Pismo location a few months later. Amazing in every way! You can tell that these products are made with care. I am highly sensitive to scents and cannot handle most candles due to headaches. Their nontoxic properties make it possible for me to enjoy the soft glow and aromas that I have missed. My daughter attended the summer camp and LOVED it. We were spending a few days in Pismo And had walked to the outlets from out Hotel which was longer then what we suspected. So on our Uber ride back we drove by Mayan Candle Bar. We passed a white cute house with an Sandwich board sign in front that said Candle Bar. Once we got to our hotel we researched it and learned we could Pour our own candles as a walk in customer. Fun have always wanted to do this. So we got Into our car and immediately drove back. Upon entering we were greeted by Gina our candle bar host. She was absolutely enchanting. So friendly and full of joy. She explained how the process worked and we bellied up to the bar and began our experience. You select your scents up to three, your vessel, wick, label and at the end there are surprises you can add. The store is very well organized, clean, nice variety of local artisans items For sale. Once completed your candles have to set up for an hour so we opted to come Back the next day. Next day came and our candles were ready for pick up. Scents were spot on and they were beautiful. This is an amazing experience, reasonably priced and not time Consuming. They do book parties so a call in advance would be recommended. We got lucky with a walk in on a weekday. I just had to come here again for one of Karla's classes, but this time decided to bring some friends as my holiday gift to them. Karla (the owner) offers classes that are accompanied by charcuterie trays, but she also has a vegan option and a sweets option (in addition to the traditional, non-vegan, savory charcuterie tray). We also were able to bring some adult beverages (mimosas) to have with our food, and I loved hearing the Christmas music that played during this fun holiday gathering. We had so many scents to choose from, between the year around options, some still remaining from her Fall options and of course the Winter/holiday options. My friends also enjoyed choosing from some of her pre-made candles for sale, which included a nice selection of holiday & year around scents. Karla has a loyalty program also, where after coming to pour so many candles, you can do one for free (just be sure to save and clean out the candle vessel to return with, for filling). So, in addition to her full classes, you can also book to just pop in and quickly pour a candle, for less cost than the session that comes with charcuterie and all the extra instruction about the candle toxins, history of candles, etc. Some of the best qualities of this business is that it supports other businesses (the owner has partnered with a local shop to use new concrete vessels for her candles), they use only non-toxic ingredients, including all soy wax and no phthalates or parabens, and some of their profits will be used to fund the building of a school in Karla's home country of Guatemala. I purchased a candle from the Mayan Collective at the big ditch market in Arroyo Grande. Then started following her on instagram. I actually won a giveaway they were doing on Instagram and went in for a candle pouring and it was lovely! It's rather quick but cool to pick out your own scents, glitter decoration etc and it's my fave candle to burn. A MUST visit new shop in Pismo! The exterior alone adds a greatly needed charm to Price Street! The white shabby chic cottage exterior is accented with baskets of florals caught my eye and there I discovered an oasis of hand crafted candles and decor elevating the shopping experience at that end of town. I stumbled across this ship and immediately fell in live with the scents and selection of candles. Kudos to whomever put Gina in charge (the bubbly and enthusiastic woman managing the business when I popped in). Candle making classes available. I was introduced to Mayan Collective by a local boutique who carries the candles and I am so glad I was. I am on my third candle in as many months. The candles have all smelled fresh and not over the top but with a nice scent throw. I also love the wood wick that gives the calming crackling sound, the stylish concrete jars and mostly, the fact that I am not putting harmful chemicals into my home with my candles anymore.
