First and foremost, I want to emphasize that my issue is not with Dr. Segovia--he has been wonderful. Second, I take full responsibility for my mistake. I mixed up the time of my appointment (I was scheduled for 2:00 but had it in my calendar for 2:30), and I'm not denying that this was my error. What truly shocked me, however, was the unnecessarily accusatory tone I encountered when I called to apologize and reschedule. I understand that mistakes can be frustrating, but being spoken to as if I were a repeat offender was both unfair and unwarranted. The receptionist immediately told me that I had "established a pattern of being a no-show." To clarify, I have only ever missed one other appointment--when I first started seeing Dr. Segovia, I had to cancel the same day due to testing positive for COVID. That was the only other instance. To be labeled as someone with a "pattern" of no-shows was both incorrect and frankly insulting, especially given that I've been a long-time patient of Dr. Segovia and Sonya for years. I could understand if I were a new patient, but I have an established history at this office. Dr. Segovia has always treated me with kindness and even greets me with a hug when I come in. To suddenly be spoken to as if I were unreliable or irresponsible was completely uncalled for. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I will be finding another dentist. This is a particularly difficult decision for me, as someone with dental trauma and anxiety, but I can't continue receiving care in an environment where I'm treated this way. read more

My husband is a patient here and the review is not of Dr. Segovia, who has always been pleasant, but of his office staff. There have been numerous appointments that have run late or had to be cancelled last second. Dolly(?) - in particular - is a spectacularly unprofessional, curt, and altogether nasty piece of work who can't answer a question without an ugly edge. She is boldly accusatory and loves to make the patients feel small. A queen in her own mind. She'd make the perfect bully cop in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I have been going to Dr. S for years. No only is his work and staff always impeccable, but I can't say enough about his bedside manner. Over 4th of July weekend an onlay cracked and I was very nervous about the possibility of a root canal. He texted with me and calmed me down and worked me in the next business day and took care of the tooth. I don't do well with pain and I'm sure like many I have anxiety about dental work. Dr. S always take the time to sit and talk with you and never makes you silly for being worried or scared. Additionally he is always using the latest technology and methods that is always less painful and longer lasting. He is really the perfect dentist. Best dentist ever! Professional, nice and takes care of you like family from the moment you call to book and appointment.

First of all, staffs there were super friendly, but because of that, it made me believe everything they said. I visited this dental last year, because I thought that I needed some simple mild fillings. I gave them my dental insurance details before my first visit, and they told me that they were out of network and i would need to pay the whole bill first and my insurance would send a check to me to cover the % cost. - Ok, I was fine with it. On that day, when i visited them in the office, I told them what i needed and they took x-ray first, but after their x-ray, they told me that I had two tooth which needed "onlays/inlays" procedures and said to me that if they did not get fixed soon, they would get worse... I believed what they said, and asked how much would cost... So they gave me a price total around $1200 including x-ray and one teeth per onlay/inlay procedure... They told me that my insurance would cover the x-ray and maybe up to 80% of the "onlay/inlay" procedure per teeth. So I said OK. However, I did not want to do both tooth onlay/inlay that day because it would double the cost, and I wanted to make sure one teeth worked first since this was the first time I visited them... So I decided one of the two tooth to do the onlay/inlay procedure and i said to them let's do one first only. They said OK. To complete the onlay/inlay procedure, i had to visit them for the second time to put the mold on the teeth. Before i went back for the second visit, i called my insurance first time since my first visit, and it turned out that the dental insurance agent told me that my dental insurance policy did not cover any "major" procedure cost... Wow, first thing i said to myself was if my insurance did not cover such a major procedure, why this dental office did not tell me in the first place when they gave me the bill, and at least i would re-think if i wanted or not to do the "onlay/inlay" procedure, but it was too late already since I already paid the whole bill at my first visit. The reason i came back now to write this review is because currently i found another new dental, and at the new dental place, i asked them about my second teeth which this dental office told me also needed a "onlay/inlay" procedure last year... It ended up that the new dental office told me that I only need a simple filling for this tooth, not a major procedure... and i was worried about the second teeth for the last few months... The last thing that i wanted to mention is that this dental told me that my insurance would send me a check to my address which would cover % cost, they were already wrong to tell me that my insurance would cover % for the onlay/inlay major procedure, and the second thing was I never ever got a check by my insurance for the x-ray from that day, i knew my insurance covered the x-ray check for sure, and it said it was sent based on my insurance record... I think maybe it was sent to this dental office, but they never called me to tell about it? I do not know and i did not even want to bother on this with my insurance company about where was my x-ray cost check because it was such a small amount compared to the big "onlay/inlay" bill... I'M EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT HOW BADLY I GOT TAKEN HERE (AS IN RIPPED OFF) But I hadn't been to a dentist in years. I was having a problem with ONE tooth & found this office online & chose it because I live nearby. They immediately started in on X-rays, one set then continued into another "set" which I didn't realize until they charged me for both "sets" of X-rays, which I had never agreed to do in the first place. Then they did a cleaning & charged me again. I was required to "pay-as-you-go", with each procedure I had to get out my credit card. I was also told I'd need to come back to complete the "cleaning". (When donkeys fly.) I had already paid them about $500.00 & was becoming more & more uncomfortable & concerned that something didn't smell right. To make matters worse, much worse, this dentist said he would "walk me up" to another dentist on the 9th floor & there he dumped & left me with another dentist who said I needed 2 root canals for about $4,000. I was already suspicious that this was some kind of racket & it didn't seem honest & professional & knew for sure something was wrong. Segovia never mentioned to me why he was "walking me up" to the 9th floor to see another dentist, or certainly didn't tell me that this dentist ONLY did root canals. Furthermore, this new dentist took EVEN MORE X-RAYS & I was charged for them again. At this point I knew for sure I was being used & abused by what I consider a corrupt situation & a money gouging racket & I became enraged at them both & at myself for allowing this what I consider blatant theft", to happen right in my face without questioning what they were doing & how all this applied to my ONE sore tooth that I went there for, which by the way, was never looked at or was I asked any questions about it. I demanded my "X-ray payment" back from the 2nd dentist (which he gave me) & felt I would deal with Segovia on another more legally gratifying way. Finally, NOTHING WHATSOEVER was done to ease the pain of my ONE painful tooth that was the ONLY reason I went to this dentist in the first place. NOTHING! MY HONEST ADVICE IS NOT ONLY "BUYER BEWARE", IT'S ALSO "STAY AWAY FROM THIS DENTIST & DON'T GO TO THIS OFFICE FOR ANY REASON." And before you go to a dentist, read & trust the "reviews" you read on YELP. I wish I had done so. I sent Segovia an email telling him how angry & disappointed I was, & how incompetent I thought he was, and how ripped off I felt, but he never answered. No surprise there. It's a scary feeling when you've paid over $5000 to a dentist for veneers, only to be banned from his office when they start falling apart only a year and a half later. It all started when I was referred to Dr. Segovia by a friend around 2004. Initially I would see Dr. Segovia for fillings and routine cleanings. In 2009 I decided to get veneers, naturally I went with Dr. Segovia who at this point had been my regular dentist for 5 years. Dr. Segovia did a wonderful job installing the veneers in my mouth, and I was assured that the veneers would last at least ten years and that I would be able to return to him if there were any issue. Around the middle of 2010, the first veneer broke. I went in to see Dr. Segovia expecting him to stand by his word. He replaced the veneer and I was surprised to receive a bill for $1500, which I paid promptly. Towards the end of 2011 I returned to see Dr. Segovia for other dental work. Since we knew each other personally, I told him of my recent financial hardship, Dr. Segovia told me to bring $1000 in cash and he would take care of me. I did bring the cash, and he did $1200 worth of work for $1000. If you disregard this review and choose to go to Dr. Segovia, be sure to inquire about the cash discount. Before I left the office, Dr. Segovia's staff validated my parking with a series of stamps, but when I attempted to leave, the parking attendant told me that I owed $7. I was in a rush to leave on this particular day, late for an important appointment, I knew that I was not responsible for the validated parking and I refused to pay. The parking lot attendant and I had a standoff, and he took down my license number before letting me go. Three months later I received a letter from Segovia asking me who my new dentist was, and where to send my records; thus informing me of our severed relationship. This letter arrived just before my 2nd veneer broke, leaving me scrambling to find a new dentist to fix my busted mouth. I eventually got it done in Mexico, where I was kindly received and professionally treated by the dental staff. Just days ago, my third original veneer from Dr. Segovia broke. This guy is nice and schmoozy and probably gets the job done, if....you have that upscale I-live-in-Beverly-Hills and survive-off-black-market-thuggish-income-of-my-Persian husband-type insurance. Otherwise, if you've got ordinary insurance, stay away from this ugly overweight hustler gloaming over the Sunset Strip. In treating me he had scammed me to my face in utter shamelessness. After I had been x-rayed and cleaned, I was sitting in the patient's chair with dental assistant at my side whispering soothing sweet-nothings, and then received his confirmation that I would require a large-than-average filling, that the situation was dire, I could and should not wait for a second opinion, and would have to quietly succumb to his beguilement. I though all right, maybe the filling is in dire need, but what would be the cost? I explicitly asked him to have the front desk to run an estimate before I agreed to the procedure. Dr. Segovia relayed a figure of $400, claiming it would be entirely covered by the insurance. It turns out that on the cost of the procedure and its effectiveness, I was flat out lied to in a sweet-smiled way by Dr. Segovia directly. Two and half years later, I am still paying monthly installments on a figure well over $2000 of which the insurance covered a minor percentage. Best of all, the filling needed to revised by another dentist, to whom I switched to immediately after being deceived by this fat turd. So the place scams and its services are unreliable. I was seeing Dr. Segovia and was happy with his work. But then he recommended a root canal that I believe was totally unnecessary as I was in no pain. I should have gotten a second opinion... Anyway he had Dr. Dain Paxton, who now permanently practices in his office do it. Dr. Paxton seemed very nervous as he was doing it like he didn't really know what he was doing and was very sweaty. I could tell something was very wrong. As it turned out, he completely botched it causing a lot of pain that wasn't there before, and I had to get two subsequent root canals (from other dentists) and eventually I had to go to an oral surgeon and a pain specialist. The pain didn't go away for several years and I still feel it sometimes. Stay AWAY from Dr. Dain Paxton at all cost! He is very lucky I didn't sue him for malpractice. I did like Dr. Segovia though until he recommended that Dr. Dain Paxton do the root canal. I absolutely love Dr. Segovia - definitely the best dental care by far. Prior to finding his practice I went to a couple of awful dentists in LA and one dentist almost had me believe my teeth were going to fall out. Luckily I found Dr. Segovia who performed wonders for me. My root canal was painless... did I say painless. I actually fell asleep during the procedure and hopped out of the office without any discomfort other than my slightly numb mouth from the Novocain. Dr. Segovia and his staff are very kind, accommodating and their work is absolutely excellent. Only one very minor complaint and that is parking. Dr. Segovia does not validate parking and street parking can be a bit tricky but it is manageable. Just bring quarters to fill the meter. I recently moved to San Francisco and am sad that I have to find a new dentist. I can't describe how great I feel now. For over a year i had issues with aome dental work done by a different dental office that only charged not only my insurance but me as well. I was in so much pain over a weekend and the following Monday I came in, got some anestesia for the night and next day I came in and got a root canal done and two hours later a crown. For over a year I felt discomfort on my left side that I couldn't even chew correctly. Today I feel great and am able to eat normal without any issues or discomfort. Though this was not the least expensive office, I am greatful for the work done. Dr. Segovia is absolutely amazing! One of the nicest dentists I've ever met and so accommodating. I think the first time I ever saw him was when I chipped some bonding on my front tooth and needed it fixed, and he scheduled me immediately. After that he instantly became my Dentist! Best. Dentist. Ever. I've been a patient of Cesar's for years, but he just elevated himself to Dentist-God status today. I broke a front tooth last week, which was a veneer, and the tooth and veneer just broke right off. First of all, he managed to save the day initially by getting me in right away and making sure I had a temporary in place. Then, he figured out how to build up what was left, and use the existing veneer to make the process easy, painless and efficient. End result? I've got my same tooth back on, stronger than ever. Usually when doctor's offices are late in servicing me I turn into an internalised incredible hulk. I start stashing away smart passive aggressive things i can say to the doctor nurse or whoever will be on the receiving end of my wrath. But it's really REALLY hard to get mad at anyone in Cesar's office. He was the first dentist visit I went to in SEVEN years (thanks health care system!) so I was trying to stay on the good side of whoever was going to be flossing my teeth. Even tho I knew, lord knows i knew, that my teeth were in bad condition they made me feel like i had perfect teeth. They broke my cleaning out to two visits as soon as the hygienist could tell my gums were getting tender. And Cesar delivered the news of my two cavaties with the most gentle hand. My husband, who hadn't been to a dentist for 5 years since his dentist, his own father, passed away 5 years ago, was so skeptical. My husband kept saying, "he has big shoes to fill." When you can honestly say you've loved your dentist your whole life and really mean it, you have some unreasonable expectations when it comes to dentists. By all accounts, my husband's father was, "the best dentist anyone has ever had" or "the only not-rich dentist you'll ever meet cos all he cared about was taking care of people's mouths and not lining his pockets with money". He was a beloved man and dentist in Cincinnati, OH and this big flashy West Hollywood dentist who called his office more like a spa that a dental practice was really scaring my husband off. However, Cesar gave us small town treatment with a flashy hollywood but genuine smile. My bf sees a dentist at Dr. Segovia's office (can't remember his name but he seems to be Southeast Asian). My bf's teeth are in poor condition and he is a ginger (they are more sensitive to tooth pain, check it out on google) so he has avoided seeing the dentist for a while. While their office is definitely expensive (arguably what dentist isn't), the entire staff take great care with their work. My bf got a root canal done and experienced 0 pain during the procedure. I can't tell you how important this is as the fear of dental pain has kept my bf from going in the past. While he experienced some dental pain after the procedure, he was given a prescription to help mitigate the pain. Now he has to remind me to make an appt for him when I used to be the one pushing him to see the dentist! Much less fear and apprehension. If I ever need serious work done and can afford it, I will be coming here. The reception is friendly and check in on you to make sure you're entertained and provide free water bottles. Worst experience I've ever had at any dentist. Read this before going here. I had a mild toothache. My friend referred me to Dr Segovia. This is an account of what happened, fact by fact, step by step: I go into the room and sit down, two seconds later the nurse comes to get me for an x-ray. So I'm like "What x-ray? The dentist hasn't looked in my mouth yet." So she goes to get Segovia, and he comes barreling in asking me what the problem is. So I tell him, "They were pushing me into an X-ray, and you didn't even look at my mouth yet at all. Maybe at least take a look at my tooth first for one second, before hastily throwing me into radiation?" He rips off my paper bib, escorts me out of his office, and slams the door. And that was that. Stay away from this office!! Dr. Segovia replaced a couple of crowns over my implants with horrible looking results then refused to remedy the problem. Instead he suggested "I just get use to them". A few weeks later one of the implants actually became loose and the tooth fell off! He refunded my money and refused to fix the problem. Worst experience ever with Dr. Segovia and his staff!! He clearly had no experience with the cosmetic dentistry I required, But took the job to make the money anyway. Beware!!! I started seeing Dr. Segovia about three years ago when I badly cracked two back molars. Over the next 2 and half years Dr. Segovia fixed multiple bad fillings and crowns which were done by my previous hack of a dentist. He even helped set up and complete two implants one of which was my right front tooth. I can't express how absolutely perfect an implant on your frost tooth needs to be. It surprises people when I tell them it's a fake tooth that's how perfect it came out. I've sent a dozen close friends, my twin sister and my husband to Dr. Segovia. All true. He is very patient, and makes sure you don't feel any pain. However one of his dental hygenists is a little rougher than another. It won't stop me from going back. He runs an incredible practice out of a very small office. He is a USC Dental grad and his staff is fantastic. He is not a HMO plan dentist, and he shouldn't be. He runs the office the way dentists used to - by knowing your name and asking what he and his staff can do to help you. Amazingly, this is done without sending you to Window A to fill out a set of forms in triplicate so you can speak to the dentist for 30 seconds and then have an assistant try to do the remainder of the work. read more

Dr. Segovia is an excellent dentist; I agree with the other reviews. You're tended to by a chorus line of hygienists, plied with vanity-label bottled water: the works. But...and it's a big one...all this splendor comes at quite a cost. The party ends at the desk of the bungling, bad-tempered administrators, where you find out what it must be like buying bail bonds in Tijuana. Invoiced charges vary wildly, amounts due go up by $100s and sometimes $1000s with each monthly statement, and calls to straighten things out are byzantine exercises in frustration. Sadly, I've referred several colleagues after my first visit, all of whom are still fighting for clarity and resolution from these people months after their own visits. The dentist part is great. The billing part is an inept clown show. read more

They give you burberry blankets if youre cold, cold or "room temperature" waters and theyre so sweet and all about making you comfortable. Dr. Segovia is the best dentist ever, and all around just a really caring person. Before I found Dr. Segovia, I hadn't been to the dentist in 4 years, so I was very scared and anxious about what he would find, and how badly I would get lectured about how over due I was. His staff couldn't have been nicer, they never made me feel bad about being over due, they said it was great that I was there and getting back on track. Dr. Segovia exceeded my expectations, he was kind, gentle, smart and it was obvious how much he really cares for his patients. He asked me over and over if I was doing ok, if I needed anything, water (cold or room temp), chap stick, a blanket, etc. I also had a broken tooth which needed an inlay to be made at a lab, problem was I was going out of the country 3 days later. Not a problem, Dr. Segovia called the lab right there and made sure my inlay could be ready in time for my trip. It was such a nice personal touch, I was really impressed. I felt like I was the only patient he had. I was 100% pleased with all the dental work he did for me. I now look forward to my cleanings and if you are lucky, you will leave with a big piece of expensive chocolate! GREAT Dentist and very nice guy!! Was referred to Dr. Segovia by my Endodontists (Brothers) Drs. Rami & Hiri Etessami who have performed several root canals for me over the last 15 years. (By the way, if you need a root canal, Dr. Rami is the best. He did two teeth at one appointment for me, which other Endo's would only do one at a time, requiring two separate appointments. No pain either! He is rather pricey but if you get another couple of estimates/quotes and let them know, they should come down more on price, making it well worth their skills and expertise. They also happen to be in the same building as Dr. Segovia.) Back to Dr. Segovia! I have been to many types of Dentists over the years due to various insurance plans, living in different areas etc., which doesn't make me an expert but I think I am a pretty good judge by now? So after being referred to Dr. Segovia by Dr. Etessami, who said he highly recommend him for his skills, expertise, trust level as well as being reasonable and not exorbitant on prices, it sounded like exactly what I was looking for. I believe these two dentists also know each other through their time training other new dentists at USC school of dentistry as they are considered the best in their fields. Dr. Segovia is very friendly, easy going and a pleasure to be around. He doesn't push or sell things to you that you don't need to increase the charges and work plan as other dentists often do. He sometimes surprises you with discounts for paying in full that same day, paying cash, not charging for some x-Rays and even gives you gifts like custom professional teeth whitening kits. It seems he wants you to look and feel good as well as being a positive reflection of his skills and dental practice. He saved a molar of mine by building it up and making a crown for it. This molar was recommended by another dentist to need a root extraction and implant which would be very costly and invasive. He has done several other crowns for me and will be doing some cosmetic repairs as well. He could have just said "lets do veneers" like many other dentists say but he knew it wasn't necessary and that he can make them look great with his skills and at much less cost and with a much less invasive technique. Dr. Segovia continues to deliver. Fantastic staff. Great doctor. Other doctors are great too. I really don't know what is going on with these other reviewers.
