Last time I checked her in there was two months ago in November 2018. When I got her checked in, her room wasn't ready. The TV wasn't plugged in and set up. She had nothing to do but stare at the wall, since she is blind. Her bathroom was clean and the room was neat and tidy. All her medications were set up prior to arrival, but when it came time to take them, they said she wasn't approved yet and we had to wait for an hour to get them all processed. She was comfotable but bored, with nothing to do. She can't read or write, or watch TV, so one of the staff provided her with a radio on the second day she was there. Her own complaints was that it was sometimes cold and drafty in the hallways there, but her room seemed to be warm enough. One thing she didn't like was the food. She said it was terrible cafeteria food and only ate half of each meal. So about six of one, and half a dozen of the other.

The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated, with spacious, functional bathrooms. He's stayed in 5 different hospitals/medical facilities recently, and Eden Hill is the nicest, has the best staff and the food was actually good! The PT and OT personnel are outstanding! There was a weather event while he was there, and the administration ensured that they would be fully staffed regardless of icy roads. I felt confident that he was well taken care of when I could not be there. They made a difficult time better because I knew he was getting good care.

The food was healthy and delicious, and there are more staff per person than other places (particularly California where I live). Further, all staff were friendly and helpful with the exception of two ladies, one older who seemed on the uncaring side, and one very young who told a resident to pick up his feet impatiently while wheeling him to the lunchroom. But they were the only two and they weren't inappropriate or harmful, just not as warm as the rest of the staff, who were amazing! Friendly, helpful, hardworking, affectionate and loving to my Dad and the other residents. Talking with the residents, they generally like it there. While rooms are segregated according to need (i.e. memory care) residents mix with one another in the common areas, dining hall and outside. Many were smiling, friendly. The phone is not answered at all times, and administrative staff particularly seem overworked, but the care my father received was superb, and he was content there, and treated like a person. I would recommend Hays over other nursing facilities in San Marcos because of the obvious contentment and peacefulness in the residents. I believe they feel loved and enjoyed by the staff there.

Meals are balanced and presented in an attractive manner. Owners are on site often and participate in daily/weekly care of residents. They are also reachable and available to families. I have friends with parents here who are very happy , I guess you can't please some folks but with zero state problems having hard time seeing her review being serious. My wife works very hard here and she loves these folks living here. I think she's been here at this facility around 8 years now probably.
